@@dgs5809 Haha. Timed right when a new tool album drops.
NEXT TOOL SONG plz
I want to hear a JAMBI reaction.
Probably the most important line that went unnoticed:
"Don't just call me a pessimist, try and read between the lines."
I was just thinking that, literally lol. And then the part right after... "I cant imagine why you wouldn't welcome any change my friend."
They didnt really give the lyrics much thought or review. Tool isnt about groovy beats like they want, tool lyrics are always front and center in their songs.
I think they did great for a first listen. Mentioning that mom flushing it away references mother Earth, looking up L. Ron Hubbard (and his quivering upper lip), ect. ..
why pessimist...? he hope LA will flush away... i call that an optimist...^^
I thought they kind of glossed over one of my favorite lines which is "followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits "
Just remember, we've been listening this to years, decades even. It's difficult to wrap your head around it all on first listen.
Toolfans: "just react to Tool"
You: "ok which Song?"
Toolfans: "yes!"
Toolfans: "listen to Tool
People: "ok what song?"
Toolfans: "P R I S O N S E X"
Because that bass guitar gives me shivers up and down my spine. Tool knows how to use their musical tools and most of all the bass. It's all about that bass.
@@maureenwagg5305 No treble
I'd like a discussion about Disgustipated.
That's my thoughts as well. Name a "bad" Tool song
This song is actually a nod to Bill Hicks who did a comedy bit about LA falling into the ocean and his new favorite place to chill would be Arizona Bay. This entire album is dedicated to Bill as he had died a year or so before.
Jesus Christ aka became Alex Jones 🥴
Learn to swim...
hicks , the legend himself
No it’s not lol it’s about the end of the world. the idea for the song came from Danny having an out of body experience while having a colonoscopy. He flew about the Egyptian plateau and was confronted by a 20 ft pharaoh who told him how the world was gonna end. And right as he was telling him when it was gonna happen he woke up. You can find him explaining it all
@@MK-ze8xu Interesting... I'll def be looking into that.
My late husband was a drummer and he loved covering Tool, it was a work out for him and he loved it. The band called him their human metronome. He'd be soaked with sweat when they did Tool covers but he loved them. Him and the bassist were always so into it. I miss him so much but memories of watching him behind the drums, lost in either a cover or original was always so incredible for me. Hearing this song brings back bittersweet memories for me as a widow. He loved watching ya'll's reactions/reviews and I happened across the link this morning and decided to watch this. I'm glad I did. I remember watching with him. He'd have enjoyed your reaction to Rush and Tool.
You have to be an outstanding percussionist to cover Tool! RIP!
@@justrichard2491 The band used to call him 'the human metronome' or 'the heartbeat of the band'. We were in a recording studio one day and they had Scott (my husband) lay down the drum tracks first. He played through all 12 songs and then had an idea for one of them. The producer says "You want to re-record it?" Scott says "Nah, man just punch in." He said "Dude...you sure?" Ten minutes later the additions were made. The producer turned to me with this awed look on his face. "I been a musician all my life, been recording people for 20 years...NEVER have I ever had a DRUMMER who could do a perfect punch in like that." The rest of the band were like "He's awesome." - The rest of the day and the next Scott spent napping on the couch in the studio while everyone else recorded their parts. It was just a bit hilarious to me that he'd laid down all 12 drum tracks in less than 2 hours.
Thank you for sharing that. Sorry for your loss. Anyone that appreciates tool is family to me. Hope you're doing ok and I hope he rests in peace. God bless 🙏
@@mikealexander2005 Thank you for your condolences. It's been 14 months since I lost him so it is still quite painful and I still cry at least once a day. I'm getting by with help from friends and family, his friends have been so incredibly awesome. Guys he was friends with since childhood, many that were groomsmen in our wedding and his former band have been so helpful. Checking in on me and our son and helping with home maintenance that I can't do on my own. The last two Christmases were *hard*.
Sounds like your husband was one of a kind, thanks for sharing :) You write beautifully.
This whole album is a masterpiece IMO

My thoughts exactry
I think of that everytime I hear this song lol.
That whole album is just a master piece. Sit back some time, smoke a fat one, and chill out, but always have the lyrics handy.
I actually feel like reading the lyrics hinders your immersion. Treat his voice as an instrument, just 1 of 4, and their songs take on new light.
I remember as a teen listening to the entire Aenima album and it was just an amazing experience - do it high and have your mind blown
From beginning to end it’s an amazing album.
I just clicked over to your 2018 reaction to Tool's "The Pot", and you guys have really stepped up the sound quality of the playback. Way to go, guys!
I wish ya’ll would react to Tool’s “H.” It’s a great song lyrically and instrumentally
The Great Tuco same. Aenema far from the best on this album.
Good shout. Especially since they noticed the more calmer tone of this song. I think H is the same.
Great suggestion!
a very underrated song by them imo, and I honestly think its one of their best!
I don't mind. I don't mind. I DONT MIIIIIIIIIND!
Aenema is based on a bit from Bill Hicks (comedian) who was very good friends with the members of Tool, called Arizona Bay. The whole album was dedicated to him, cause he died before it's release.
phuse99 hicks would also do a soft open and introduce the band
Chris Rowe Third eye has a clip from Hicks' routine about drugs and personal freedoms. Really powerful quote from a jokester.

Shit I betcha there's more tool fans than meshugga, I don't even like them
So the next tool song needs to be THE GRUDGE

Miles ahead anything from Aenima. I don't get the fuss about this album, I love Lateralus & 10.000 Days, but I can't get into Aenima even after 10 full listens. Just geniuely not that great
@@TheAskald Aenima is amazing, genuinely great.
Salival version of Pushit. 😊
@@TheAskald Aenima is the pinnacle of Tool, hands down. It has vitality, rage, prog, metal. Just a different life force from the later albums, which are great in their own rights, but just not on the same level.
Er, wait. Guys, I don't know if you knew this but putting tool vs meshuggah is a win win fight. As far as I know most tool fans are also meshuggah fans.😂
Idk about that. Tool has a big rock radio fanbase. A lot of those guys dont even listen to metal.
There's a lot of overlap, but definitely Tool has a more mainstream audience that doesn't care for Meshuggah, and there are some extreme metal fans that don't care for Tool's sound at all.
I think a lot of us like both, but definitely not all.
There’s definitely overlap because of the psychedelic aesthetic, the long and grinding song structures, and the strange rhythms. But to your normal rock or metal radio listener they don’t sound the same at face value.
Tool took Meshuggah on tour with them a bunch of times when Meshuggah was just getting established - so it's likely the bands themselves are fans of each other.
@@Howard_the_Duck huh?
“Cause I’m praying for rain... I’m praying for tidal waves...” that might be the most beautiful moment in a Tool song that isn’t Wings for Marie...
hvitekristesdod even better live with the whole crowd singing it. Amazing.
What about "So good to see you, I missed you so much" ?
@@muffmuff3631 it is beautiful, especially contrasted to the rest of the song, which is quite chaotic
Wings for Marie/10,000 days s
is just another level. Over the past 13 years that song has gone from a top 10 song to Tool's masterpiece. It's beautiful in a way that none of their others songs are.
And the way he says “give way” gets me every time. It’s almost like turning “way” into two syllables and then cutting off the word perfectly.
This was the first Tool song I had ever heard. It was a on a mix CD in high school. I spent the next few hours trying to find someone who could tell me which band it was. What an amazing find. Life changing!
The first tool song i heard was Sober. My aunt introduced me to a lot of great music.
My first tool song was a reactiom my friend had me do too parabol/parabola and then this song. Im loving too soo much. I can't wait for my friend to show me more!
I saw them opening for rage against the machine at festival in 1993. Fan for 28 years now
Tool are big friends with Meshuggah. They toured together years ago. They both killed it onstage.
Yeah they did! I saw them in Ohio in like 2003. Great show
Bro, I live in East Toledo. I walked to the show with 12 other friends, down the street from my house. Back then, Tool shows felt personal. Now... I'm sure you get it.
Tool VS Meshuggah is such a weird matchup. I love both, but for completely different reasons.
I think gojira and meshuggah maybe would've been better, but guess tool also has the unusual time signatures
Not that weird of a match-up. I saw Meshuggah open for Tool on the Lateralus tour. Tool and Meshuggah both work in odd time signatures and are considered prog-metal. Yes, completely different approaches to prog.
@@Dagoth_Ur_1 yep, exactly
yeah, i don't really consider tool to be metal.
And this is why I love progressive approaches to metal or rock or whatever music genre you are because you can get wildly different sounds based on the same roots just with more influence and experimental stuff.
Interesting that “mother” and “mom” is interpreted as Mother Nature. I always thought he was at such a point of stress that he was literally calling for his mom. As my grandmother was in the hospital dying she uttered the words “momma come get me”. It’s one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever heard.
I always thought it was a reference to the irresponsible manchild calling out to mommy to make it all better with the listener knowing it’s well beyond her pay-grade.
"I wish for Los Angeles to disappear."
"Wow what excellent bass"
san francisco and silicon valley should be flush away... down to san francisco bay... that would be a great start for armageddon...

THE GRUDGE! Maynard's scream tho
This guy ua-cam.com/video/qOmob_3KnR8/v-deo.html
Angry, long ass scream lol brutal
I don't know if there is any truth to it but I've always heard that Danny Carey practiced tribal drum techniques/patterns and studied these very uniquely human (drumming) sounds we've been making for hundreds of thousands of years. It taps into a primal and visceral connection we all share. Deliberate or not, I think that's artistically brilliant!
He studied different cults , geometry etc too he's a genius
It's very true and Master Atoka? (Spelling) spent a lot of time with Danny and I believe is credited on this album...eulogy maybe? Been a long time since I read up on it
Just react to all of Tool, we won't be entirely satisfied until then, lol
Some time I would like to see you guys do a two-fer from one band, like early catalog vs. late catalog stuff. For example: I would like to see you react to the difference between a Tool song like Prison Sex followed by a something like Vicarious.
Prison Sex was a single off Tool's first full-length record and Vicarious was the first single off of their most recent record. They are quite different from each other. I like em both. I'd love to see your reaction to the difference between them.
Could be fun. More ideas for the new format, too.
Love the new look and sound, btw.
I definitely like this idea.
No
Oh man absolutely
There's so many bands that this could work really well with. The likes of Metallica, Sabbath, Megadeth, Mastodon, Machine Head, In Flames, Pantera and Ghost would be interesting in their own right, for very different reasons in some cases.
Yes yes yes
Damn you guys react to VICARIOUS
I mean that's just to name ONE.
Yes react to Vicarious please!!!
Vicarious should've won. These polls man 🙄
I crank this one up in the car and sing very loud along with it. I get strange looks if i am at a red light. I am a 55 year old woman jamming to TOOL!!!!
Vicarious is one of the weakest songs on 10,000 Days. It's paint by numbers as far as Tool songs go. I'm glad they're ignoring it.
Honestly hadn't been on the channel since you guys upgraded your set. This song brought me back.
Same here. I miss the "two dorks in their garage" vibe, but I'm going to check out the rest.
I love when you guys play Tool!! My absolute favorite band! Going to see them again in two weeks!!!! 🖤🖤🖤🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
Hell yeah! Saw them twice
I saw them last November. So glad I was able to do it before covid hit.
Classic!! Not only the instrumentation of Tool but the lyricism of Maynard is what pushes them above. The inclusion of instrumentation, the tribal factor as you describe, is what sets them apart as it provides atmosphere.
Scott Schoenkopf I try to get into Mastodon which had incredible musical ability similar to Tool but the vocal quality is awful compared to what Maynard does.
@@krt88nc I totally agree. I just can't get into Mastodon like others do.
Aenema gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it and I’ve heard it thousands of times!!!!!
Schism or vicarious. You wont be disappointed.
As a child of the 80's and a teen of the 90's rock/grunge/alternative a.k.a best 20 years of music ever, I am so glad that you appreciate this genre. I think that boundaries were drawn a long time ago but I am so glad ya'll are recognizing the artistry of my favorite era of music! I really regret that when we were coming together in this day was erased. We were never closer than we were in 2000. The clubs in 2000 were mixed and everybody was cool and into it. I don't know why it changed. Thank ya'll for bringing it back.

How have that not done sober. That's like lesson 1 for new tool fans
Really digging the new (to me) format of the videos. For me, it's perfect and what I want. My biggest gripe with previous videos were the poor audio quality of the track you're listening to, as well as there would be times you would pause at the worst spot because you didn't know what was coming next (for instance, the War Pigs intro reaction video), so going back to play the previous 5 seconds or so to "rebuild" the climax of where you left off is key. By far the best reaction channel, as you guys are constantly providing valuable insight and feedback for people who may haven't taken the time to pull up the lyrics and think about them from another perspective. Really appreciate the work you guys are constantly putting in to make the videos better each time.
I watch these guys more consistently than anything online lol. Best reaction videos, always open minded and humorous.
I didn’t see it the comments but the premise from this song is from a comedian named Bill Hicks. Maynard is a huge fan of his and actually most of this album is stuff inspired by Hicks.

I love seeing metal reactions! Its a very polarized style/genre of music, where most people either hate it, or love it. David Thorson Eulogy is my second favorite Tool song behind Pushit. It's gonna be difficult for those guys to put out another album that will dethrone Aenima as my favorite record. Lateralus overtook Undertow as #2, but I did not like it at all at first.

Best way I can explain Tool's usage of bass is that they are like string-drums, and it matches the passion and intensity on the actual drums.
RC15O5 The only other band I can compare to Tool’s rhythm section etc is late-70s/early-80s Killing Joke.
J. Robert Hopfer zeppelin was consistent. Maybe not as heavy but always as good
Max Kilcoyne Oh, I completely agree. I wasn’t comparing skill, but styles. KJ has a notorious predilection for tribal-style drumming, driving-yet often oddly liquid-bass lines, and the use of the guitar as a primarily atmospheric instrument, even when played as a rhythm instrument. That was the connexion I was attempting to draw.
