Tool Ænema Reaction Video
Tool Army doesn't mind waiting like stalking butlers 😇
I thought the army would like that :)
I thought it was hilarious when he said that 😂
Guess we do, at least I did :)
I've always pronounced it as enema, but I could be mistaken.
@@Ubotit_Unaymit Æ is a danish/norwegian letter (in Swedish and Finnish it's 'Ä') it's pronounced as the 'a' in "mad".
You're officially part of the Tool cult now
Amen, can i get a Hallelujah?
One of us. One of us.
Where's my Toolaide?
Honestly... I prefer society. AKA Mensa. Jim Jones founded a cult
Adam did not... just awareness.
@@markmaloney3140 Heheheh.. excellent!
As a guitarist and drummer for the past 27 years, this channel and the way you speak so eloquently about the inner workings of music makes me so happy. THIS is what UA-cam was made for. Absolutely flawless work....as always. 🤙🏻
Wow Wolf, thank you for that!
Love the name! LoL!
"Arizona Bay" is a Bill Hicks reference. He hated LA, and hoped an earthquake would drop it into the ocean, "Leaving the calm, cool serenity of Arizona Bay."
Hoi, I actually just scrolled down to see if anyone else mentioned him. Good on ya!
Wow that is the line that got me into tool and I had no idea it was bill hicks. Makes it even better.
@@goldrush49 Yup. One of Hicks' albums is titled "Arizona Bay". There is even some artwork in the album sleeve of the Aenima CD that shows Bill in a labcoat, and it says something like, "Another dead hero." There are many references to him on that album and in the cover art.
Maynard also lives in Arizona. Coincidence?
@@MergeRanging He's waiting.
I'm surprised no ones mentioned eulogy. Criminally underrated
I’ve recommended Eulogy on almost every Tool reaction he has done so far. It’s my favorite!!!
@@JeramiaValentine he actually did mention that he thought he recognised the Fibonacci sequence in Lateralus..it was quite impressive from a first listen
Eulogy is my favorite song ever.
Such a scathing song, absolutely beautiful.
A good system is a major requirement to listen to TOOL on, I built a system last year and went back and rediscovered their whole catalog again
I love seeing a new Tool fan, listening to their music and EXPERIENCING their music...
You're an awesome dude.
Thanks James! Have a mellow weekend :)
@@KeyOfGeebz do you dare try Jane - daytime ? ! oldie but a goldie ;)
That moment, when MJK goes I'm praying for rain, it's one of the best moments in music history.
It's beautiful
So fucking beautiful
Dude once you've heard all of the songs individually, do yourself a favour and listen to the album start to finish. Not as a reaction video, but so you can experience the whole story/opera/roller-coaster/revelation/spiritual/emotional/mindf**k. Take the journey you won't be sorry.
Oh and huge thanks for putting into words just what makes TOOL so brilliant to listen to. 🤯
I'm disappointed in the low number of likes on this comment. What a "self-indulgent pitiful hole" we've dug. This is the way Tool was meant to be listened to. And for all the joy Mr. Geebz has brought us... we all owe it to him to take some time, eat a gummy bear, or 7, pry open his third eye and Reflect on this new beauty he's found, without worrying about pausing tracks, inserting ads, or pleasing the pure listener. Think for yourself, question the comments :)
Some of the albums are written as complete songs and switched around. Lateralus is one.
Definitely
Yeah, it’s like listening the Pink Floyd’s Wall as a separate songs…The whole picture is much bigger.
You guys are taking this a bit too far...
Most of us have heard this song a thousand times, and are, at the very least, really interested on your take. So plz stop the song.
It helps you not get striked, by the way.
That's @#$#$ spot on.
I have no problem with stops as long as you go back enough to appreciate the transition. Which you do! Well done and great channel.
That might be the best comment I've seen in years...
@@FirstnameLastname-qp4hf He can't get striked because his channel isn't monetized but YT's algorithms pick up the song identification anyway. It will pick it up based on even a few seconds of audio. That's why the description has the name of the song. He doesn't manually put that in, it's licensing info picked up when the upload is processed.
"If there's such a thing, enjoying it more after your 10,000th listen" - trust me, there is.
It's bizarre isn't it? Still fresh after 10,000 listens.
@@nosbike1 This was the record that got my into them when it dropped and I've listened to it countless times since. That said I did kind of put it on the back burner these last few years just to come back and revisit it. Hold's up perfectly honestly.
I read this as he said it,creepy.lol
Absolutely, I love when they break into that climactic destruction piece where they're sliding guitars and danny is building the momentum with his co-ordinated gallops into this end of days sound that is so friggin epic.
Isnt that just part of being a tool fan?
Tool reactions+ Tool Army= views
(We are a quiet giant that loves watching itself grow)
When Maynard sang "Some say the end is near" at a show in March 2020, there was such a weird feeling that floated through the venue lol
Auckland by chance? Phenomenal show.
I'd farted, sorry.

this one has to be your next review. This is the poet and the Pendulum by Nightwish. This is a five scene song. It's a bit long and there's a lot to go over and it's very deep. It's got a lot of very brutal subject matter but your jaw will hit the floor!
@@KeyOfGeebz I hope you are listening to the albums on your own time. It'll change your life..
As a former DJ in my area used to say, "Maynard's love song for the California Coast." Flush it all away.... lol
"one great big festering neon distraction, i've a suggestion to keep you all occupied..."
I feel like it’s more specifically LA culture. But yeah.
I've been to la and I couldn't agree more.
See you all down in arizona bay =)
Tool - THE GRUDGE, for one of the wildest song endings.
Yes! Absolute banger
The end, that's when I scream in my head "Damn you Danny Carey, I hate you!" but then love it so much I would never say it out loud.
One of my all time favorites
YES! +1 for The Grudge.
@@jrgdrumsandwatches Psh, I would love to get on stage, steal Maynard's mic, and scream it in Danny's face as he's playing it...
I think I can speak for every Tool fan, we are envious that you get to hear them for the very first time! Good work.
“Cleansing of the palate... threw you into this abyss place” you literally broke down the lyrics without knowing the lyrics, just by talking about the instrumental aspects of this song. That was awesome 😂
palate, like the roof of the mouth
@@spoitras grammar police alert, did you write a ticket or possibly throw em in grammar jail?! 😆🤣
What his vid where he nails the Fibonacci sequence within seconds. Its pretty amazing.
@@shaun374 I did, that was great too. I was about to go to the comments to see how many people were telling him about it, and then boom, he just mentions it in passing lol.

If you keep reacting to Tool songs your subscriber numbers will keep going up. The Tool army is loyal and numerous. Keep up the great videos. Love it man.
Truth
Tool is definitely the most popular band from Prog metal, by far. A lot of people know them, not all people know about say Symphony X or Dream Theater.
Tool army isn't loyal, the second these people have done every Tool song they collectively disappear and move on to the next reactor. Lol
@@Demoncleanerrr But most people who listen to Tool also listen to tons of other progressive rock / metal bands, so this channel is good to stick around for some good prog

15:06 "feel the changes coming" My man is now speaking in tool lyrics.
An underrated comment!!
I love pretending to know what he means when he says "in the pocket"
'In the pocket" is a musician term 'in the groove' type thing where they are right locked in where they need to be time wise.
@@wjohanw thank you, kindly
This guy does a great job of explaining what “pocket” is to people aren’t familiar with the concept. It is a little complex and confusing, but this guy does a great job of explaining it.
ua-cam.com/video/o6Jm3TVVcxg/v-deo.html
Don’t worry, you’re feeling it.
Tool is a Tool to be used to get through life. You don't just listen to them, you experience them. Which is why they are my all time favorite 😁
definitely in my top 5 too.
Might I also recommend to everybody a MuDvAyNe
Well put n very accurate.
Oh absolutely 💯% agree with you!!!! Love the juxtaposition of their name TOOL with the absolute experience of hearing their music, etc; and the realization that they are a tool. It's striking...well, maybe not everyone gets this...but...yeah I know what your talking about
"I'm prayin for rain. I'm praying for tidal waves..." Cleansing moment.
Also, The "pad note" is Maynard holding that last note.
I came here looking for this comment. 👍
there's an old school way of making that pad note without overdubbing , by multitracking yourself live simultaneously. ... splitting the feed and putting effects on one line and no effects or different effects on the other.
jimi hendrix did it without effects but anyone else I know of needs processors to get the job done.
when I was engineering, I used to love to use unorthodox effects stacked in odd ways to make new sounds.
"Maynard bringing the people elbow.up the middle" reaction gold.
One of the most amazing things Tool has done is the alternative version of Pushit. To re imagine your own song in a completely new light that takes it from good to amazing has always stuck with me as a testament to their combined talents.
so unbelievably accurate.
Aloha! Loving the decomposition. Don’t Apologize for pausing! If people wanted to listen to the song they can go buy the album, or find it on UA-cam elsewhere, this is a breakdown video; they should understand that.
Super MAHALO for your comment Alex :)
Exactly my thoughts. It's his channel, he should have free reign to do this however he pleases
Pretty much, well said mate.
Reaction videos are terrible when the person never pauses to give their thoughts. Unless they go really, really in depth at the very end, the occasional interruptions are necessary to make it good!
The song that got me head over heels in love with Tool!
Here here!
This is always the first song I show anyone who never heard of Tool.
Even got my wife hooked from her hearing this song.
Yup, same. The edited version of this and Eulogy were in heavy rotation on my local rock radio station when I was a kid. When a friend finally played me the un-edited version I was hooked forever.
Mine was 46 and 2. Im a drummer and that solo blew my brain out the back of my skull
Pleeease give a breakdown of Jambi, there's quite a bit going on in that song that I think you'd love
When TOOL plays this live in LA do they cheer and go yup! That's us! He's talking about us!
You're my new favourite reactor on UA-cam, I'm learning so much about music, listening to it in new ways and falling even more in love with it. Thank you so much for what you do :)
I appreciate that Lorna! Have a chill weekend!
Came here to say something similar. I love Tool differently than other music, and seeing these breakdowns might help me understand why. Maybe I'm picking up on some of these things without realizing it. Aloha nui loa and mahalo from someone who lived in the Diamond Head area for a few years!
This song is so appropriate now.
Good gawd it is.
I remember a mate telling me these guys were ahead of their time... Boy how little he knew lol
Also right in two
Yes...yes...doesn't make sense though..Maynard is a huge liberal
So am I, but it does make sense.
This was my first Tool song, I heard it on the radio and was so dumbstruck I literally went straight to the record store and bought the album. You got the chicken skin in the same place I did, that "prayin for rain" bridge section has such a melancholy Irish ballad vibe it's just despairingly beautiful in the middle of a prog metal song about death and destruction.
You're gonna love the lyrics of this one too lol.
Lovin your reactions man, about to check out your Porcupine Tree vid. I was gonna suggest them but you already got to it lol
I appreciate that you don't do lyric reactions, but if any Tool song should be a lyric reaction, it's this one. I love watching reactions to this song to see people's faces. Some are smart enough to get certain things ('Arizona Bay' for instance) and some aren't, but damn, but everybody gets the gist. This is one of the most brutal lyrical skewerings ever put to tape. Haha
+100
Just logged on... perfect timing... aaaalriiiight...
I watch his videos so much I figured it was just showing me what I watched recently. To my surprise it was new! You nailed it though, Merry Christmas 😝
@@mathhomework4209 back atya brother.. and best wishes for this new year..
I love how you can immediately be "into" a Tool song. I'm a huge Tool fan, but it always takes me several listening sessions to really appreciate any new song.
Yeahhh man so I woke up at 4am and spent most of the last 2 hours becoming a TOOL fan with you
Welcome and enjoy Tool. It may take some getting used to and the Lyrics at times can get fully R rated, so not all their songs will appeal to all.
The rhythm is “pass the got damn butter”
I see, someone watched Chancellor's video
I always think of what Adam, Justin, and Danny are doing like a 3 Man Weave drill in basketball. One of them is always down the middle (in the rhythm) while the other two are weaving in and out of the same rhythm. Every song they weave back and forth flawlessly each getting to shine.
You gotta do the grudge off Lateralus. Talk about a song that comes from a “purple place” . The band is on a whole other level in that track. Keep up the great reaction, and welcome to the tool army🤘
Completely agree!!!

@@NoNo_IStay Later, Alice.
My favorite part about watching these are the moments where I think to myself, “He’s going to love this next little part”, and then he pauses it and specifically talks about the part I knew he was going to love. It makes me happy.
It's awesome to see the birth of a Tool fan experiencing these songs for the first time
I would love a reaction to H or Jimmy off this same album!
H is awesome
Yes! I love H. And Jimmy Ænima album is a goddamn masterpiece
@@lopolik yes. Yes it is
@Siegfried Sieger yeah they go well together.
H for sure!
You need to do "Right in two" and break into Maynard's other band, "A Perfect Circle". You would love "3 Libras" by them...
I actually like Puscifer more, but well, they area all great. The humbling river.
You need to do Intention with Right in Two.
YES!!
Right In Two, definitely my favorite from 10,000 Days. Geebz speaks of dynamics a lot when listening to Tool tracks, and that one has mountains of it. I'm especially in love with the tabla solo by Danny in that one: sonically it's not super ranged, but he creates such a palpable build up of tension that I just feel like a squirrel stuck in the middle of a highway by the end of it haha
Or the right in two cover with bearded harmony
“Waiting like a stalking butler” is also one of my favourite MJK lines 😂
Great vid brother! This whole album is a masterpiece 👌🏼
Disposition, and Reflection, from Lateralus, Reflection at least, they kind of blend into each other though..you'll like it.
Fun reactions!
Pronunciation is "Ah-Nih-Muh" with first syllable accent.
Thanks for doing this one!
Thanks Tony :)
The title Ænima is a combination of the words 'anima' (Latin for 'soul') and 'enema', the medical procedure involving the injection of fluids into the rectum.
@@gunofbrixtonz probably from the Carl Jung anima and animus.
The People's Elbow ... lmao. The Rock would be so proud!
Can you smell what Maynard is cookin?
You know, when I first heard the song, I interpreted as L.A.'s "enema" from the lyrics. Example being: "Flush it all away". It's like a way to start over and try again, flush out the toxicity, let us rebuild.
Love the TOOL dad joke you threw in there, "waiting like a stalking butler." Loving all your reactions to Tool.
The delicateness and nuance of Danny's percussive choices in this song always blow me away. I mean really listen to what he's doing from 8:05 on for about 30 seconds. ALso, this is one of Tool's dirge-iest sounding songs, in parts, I love how they transform and emerge from the more straightfoward metal/rock parts into the more ambient, dirge like sections. Brilliant stuff, probably their angriest song, at least lyrically until Ticks & Leeches.
The delicacy of your words choice is astonishing.
They have a good number of angry songs in Undertow as well, though not as musically complex as Aenima
Instrumentally, Triad feels like the most angry song for me
Clearly you never listened to Opiate. So much angrier! lol
@@TheRealGhutts there best in my opinion
This whole album was dedicated to Bill Hicks, but this song in particular was inspired by some of his bits. Genius paying homage to genius if you ask me!
I was in nashville last year and some parking attendance saw my tool sticker on my window of my car, and it was so cool they started yelling "tooool fuck yeah man", so nice for them to notice. It's like an instant connection.
That "held down note" is just Justin's crazy FAT bass sound and how Danny tunes his drums
Interesting timing, for this song, my friend.
Welcome to the army! I love when people discover Tool and fall in love. I've been a fan since the 90s. They've definitely helped me throughout my spiritual journey 🖤
You're absolutely right about cans, your videos are the first time I've listened to Tool with this quality of headset, and it really does make a difference. Booster rockets is a good analogy. Thank you for doing what you do.
-Taylor
During the "learn to swim" section, the way Maynards voice moves through the mix feels like circling the drain.
What a wonderful tribute to the late great Bill Hicks.
As a bass player I appreciate your reactions. Not the typical "music is good" and "guitar go vrooo" reaction. Very thoughtful reactions in terms of what the musicians are doing and the importance of production
Please react to Tool’s “Ticks and Leeches,” “7empest,” “Invincible,” and “Descending”
As a guy who keeps talking about drums, Ticks & Leeches is a must.
Invincible is always on my playlist when I hit the gym.
I'm a sucker for good footwork on a double bass drum, and Danny absolutely kills it in this song.
Love it. Keep it up. I don’t mind the pauses. I know the songs as I’ve listened to them a thousand times.I’m not musically trained so your breakdown gives me a better understanding on what is going on in a particular song. A better appreciation of the talent. Love the channel. You are doing something no other “reactor” is doing out there.
My mom had this album when I was younger and I absolutely adored it. She wouldn't let me listen to all of the songs (I was 7-8 at the time) and definitely didn't understand what the songs meant, but to this day this is my favorite album by Tool. Thank you for all your wonderful reviews!

As someone who grew up listening to Tool, it's so interesting these days watching people listen and react to them. I don't think I've ever taken them for granted, but seeing it as you see it, through a different lens, is refreshing and reminds me why I went down the rabbit hole in the first place. What an awesomely strange human habit that is. Keep going.
11:28 in, you say “Cymbals are never mic’d on their own...” The entire Songs for the Deaf QOTSA album, Grohl’s cymbal tracks were mic’d individually.

I don't mind the stops at all bro, understand that your experience and expertise in this field adds immense insight to very technical music. And the stops are necessary in order to properly articulate this to us. Keep doing what you're doing man
This song is the gateway drug to an amazing band.

Love the way you break these songs down! Really cool to have a composer break these songs down! The tempo and riffs is what makes tool so cool! Nice to see someone appreciate it also!
I love how the second you hear Tools songs being played in unique meters, you have that "Of course..."look on your face and that little hand gesture (like you did in 2:01 part of this video), lmao I watched another Tool reaction on another person's channel on here (Kan Lavigne), a vocal coach, and one of my favorite things while reacting to Danny Careys "Pneuma" was that he said that Tool made him feel like he'd kinda wasted his life lol he had that "WTF have I been doing!?" take while listening, he liked it that much that'd pretty cool
