    With the crackle paint coat, the key is to go over it once with a very thick coat. Once you move the can away, don’t go back. One single swipe, instead of multiple layers back and forth on the same area. Slow and steady, thick coat and don’t revisit the same spot. The minute it hits the layer it’s covering, it starts reacting. Unlike multiple strokes to cover the same area when applying each coat for non-crackle paint. It’s against what we’ve learned when painting typically, but it’s what works the best for crackle paint, top coat. 👍

    I've never done much painting, but I wonder if you'd get better results if you masked off the back and sides and just focus on the front. Then do the back and sides in one go. That way you can go really heavy right up to the point it begins to crackle.

    Amazing, I cannot wait to do the same thing on a larger scale (mirror effect from Burlesque Bar & then add the smoke) for my 40th. The crickets in the background aren't so bad, hope you knock out the next Warlock :)

    If you use lacquer paint and enamel paint it'll counter react with each other if you stick them both on at the same time a few minutes apart and it'll pull apart just like crackle finish

    Aye homie got a question, I just did my first crackle paint job last night & it turned out pretty good for a first attempt, but I had the same issue as your one attempt like having a few spots that didn’t crackle or are super small, so can I tape off the good sections & then just sand & respray the bad sections? Or do I have to just sand & respray the whole face again?

  • @bullfrogpondshop3179
    @bullfrogpondshop3179 5 років тому +2

    The final crackle turned out awesome! Currently building a Warlock kit and saw this technique elsewhere and thought it would be perfect.
    So is the trick simply to apply a super heavy coat of crackle?
    Were you concerned about runs with that heavy crackle coat, or is that paint run-resistant?
    If you were to do another crackle paint job, what would your procedure be?

    • @ForsytheVideo

      Absolutely, they are pretty cookie cutter and match the spacing of most other wrap around with the same string spacing(for 25.5 scale guitars).
