Please pass along to Asus that we desperately wish for a fully configurable BFI setting, Both to configure the duty cycle of the bfi setting, from 20% to 80%, and offer bfi support at atleast 240hz, and 120hz, with consideration made for 60hz bfi. 480hz BFI is not the highest priority, however the more feature rich the better.
Edit: I thoroughly encourage those who are not fully informed on the benefits of BFI / Strobing to take some time to look through the blurbusters documentation on the benefits of a one millisecond mprt and how BFI will enable us to get there on our sample and hold displays.

If you don't mind giving up VRR, you can do software BFI and get 120hz problem on a 240hz monitor. For 120hz, if you want 1/2 pulses, you black out every other frame at 240hz. 1/3rd pulses, then run 180hz and black out every third frame. 1/4th, then 240hz and every fourth frame. Sure you can't do less than 50% but it's still a great experience.
60hz, again, give up VRR and you have have a ridiculous amount of options, up to a low of 25% by blanking all but 1 frame.
I think if these sort of work arounds ever become more popular besides hacky shaders in retroarch and reshade, we could see much better software solutions. Particularly finding a middleground between completely blacking out a frame and just reducing the brightness. Fading from 100% to 0% over 2-3 frames would be pretty ideal and closer to a CRT

I just bought a G3, switched to the bright mod, through a program on my PC I set the settings as in the filmmaker mod, as a result I get absolutely the same quality, but with maximum brightness, I’m happy. I did the same for HDR and got an interesting result - as if DTM and HGIG were working simultaneously, as a result, the average brightness is high and the highlights are the same as in HGIG, but sometimes this causes a feeling of unnaturalness, simply because the highlights are too bright against the background of everything the rest.
I would be glad if you would conduct a similar test and accurately measure whether the bright mode is really so accurate, it probably won’t be so in the program, but in real content they look identical, with the exception of the increased brightness in the bright mode.

-BFI option that can work with VRR at the full 480 HZ that still alllows HDR to be used. Adjustable strobing rate would also be nice to decide if you prioritize brightness or motion clarity.

Monitor choices are going to be very difficult this year. I'm considering either the new Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD model), or the 120Hz Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved Thunderbolt Hub Monitor (U3425WE). Both have their merits and concerns.
What would you recommend for 50% spreadsheet/Photoshop work, and 50% city builder/sim gaming? The monitor is often left on for extended periods, so OLED burn-in does concern me. But I also have a Sony OLED TV and absolutely love the colours and pure blacks. I'm not experienced with curved monitors, although the Dell curve seems quite mild. As for refresh rates, will the 240Hz of the Samsung panel be noticeably better than the 120Hz Dell? Thanks in advance.

Hard to know if one should go with the QD-OLED varieties that are out now (or coming out soon) vs the new WOLED layout coming in 2H 2024; which will have less burn in issues? Which will have better text clarity? Thus far, the new layout seen in the QD-OLED varieties dramatically improves on text clarity (though still not perfect), but the plan is to use a different WOLED layout for the ones in 2H 2024. Hard to know what to do.

Thanks for the video, Vincent! When can we expect OLED TVs to support refresh-rates of 240 Hz and beyond (at 4K, 4:4:4)? What is holding them back?
And why TVs still don't have DisplayPort inputs? As a PC gamer, I find it infuriating and I can't think of any reasonable explanation as to why this is the status quo.
And another question - will any of the 2024 QD-OLED/WOLED TV panels support BFI/low persistence mode at 120/144 Hz? I really hope they bring this option back because I personally value motion clarity above peak brightness.
I'm dreaming of the day we get 65+" 1000Hz displays (OLED, microLED, QDEL or similar self-emissive tech) with over 4000 nits peak brightness for crystal clear HDR gaming goodness... and high quality, low latency frame extrapolation techniques (aka "reprojection" or "asynchronous space warp", similar to what's used in VR headsets, but better) by the GPU manufacturers to maintain these 1000fps ;)

I find it so funny that after all these years we finally got a gimped version of a feature we lost after “upgrading” from CRTs with the ability to change display resolution and max refresh rate per resolution natively. CRTs could pretty much do any resolution and refresh within the monitors spec natively. This only has two resolutions with two different max refresh rates depending on resolution but at least a step in right direction. It’s insane to me we still haven’t fully caught back up to the features we left behind with CRTs. LCD’s were a mistake. Only now with Oleds are we finally getting closer to getting back features we had in the fucking 80’s-00’s lmao. Even then we still aren’t quite there, blows my mind. Idiots gave up color, motion resolution, no latency, multi-native resolutions, contrast, high refresh rates, and overall quality for lighter and bigger lcd monitors with less color, less constrast, absurd lag, one refresh rate (usually 60hz), one native resolution, ugly pixels, horrid motion, blurry upscaling, and just altogether horrible image. I never understood people switching over to LCDs and DLPs even then. When I finally got one I was disgusted and returned it so I kept my Trinitron. Wasn’t till Plasma I finally enjoyed a flat panel but have always kept my CRT’s and still used them on case by case basis. I really hate that stupid consumers in masses were obsessed with having the biggest tv possible, brainwashed by marketing, made gaming such a painful experience for so long by downgrading our standards. Like even now cause of idiots still buying mostly dvd’s Walmart’s barely even carry 4k Blu-ray, let alone even normal Blu-ray. My local walmart has 4 movies in 4k for sale….but two aisles of DVDs….yeah 480i looks great 4k backlit LCD’s. Jackasses.
Anyways thanks for listening to my tedtalk of “most consumers are stifling technological growth and product quality with their poor knowledge, poor decisions, and easy manipulation”. Just remember consumers also chose worse quality vhs over the superior betamax just cause initial players weren’t as convenient at recording live tv and stuck with their stupidity even when all Betamax players had that feature.

If you need or want that size just stick with it. The C3 has great HDR but lacks SDR tho. If you move up to a QD-OLED display it's gonna be a big difference in brightness and color saturation.
A couple of years ago I returned my 42" C2 for a 55" S95B for just a little more and don't regret it at all. Yeah it's a bigger size but I run 21:9 while on PC so it's not bad and I could sit closer. For 16:9 I do move further away tho. I have a wireless everything setup so it's not so bad. I believe Samsung will now have a 42" version but I'm not 100% sure if it's QD-OLED tho.
32" is nice too but only if you're planning to play in 16:9 all the time. I like both so having a display as big as 42", 48", 55" will be great. The 55" converts over to a 52" 21:9 display @ 1600p. I believe that's the same height as a 38"-42" display.

    • @nathanaelniklaus2981

For me a 32 inch monitor is perfect, but until now, the Alienware AW3225QF, Asus PG32UDCM, HP Omen transcend 32 or Samsungs variant are the clear winners in terms of performance and looks. The LG C3 is great for movies, but sdr is not very bright and HDR peak brightness is around 600. The QD-OLEDS are glossy as well and 1000 nits peak brightness and higher sdr brightness and achieve more accurate colours.

Proper scaling of lower resolutions that fit integer-scaled in the monitor's native resolution is something that manufacturers will need to get to perfection, as this multi-screen modes (res+refres combinations) is a new paradigm for displays and one we need to start seeing on more 4K (and soon in 8K) monitors. It's truly awesome stuff.
Integer-scaled resolutions should not be blurry if done right. They will inevitably look more blocky than the native resolution, but that comes with the territory.
