I don’t think the ultimate TV customer cares how much power a TV uses. It cares whether the picture is great or not . Black levels are very important to the video connoisseur.
Black levels are great on just about any tv you get today, whether oled or not. Brightness is where you get a really good TV.

You would be wrong with that assumption. People in europe have high electricity costs, and when you use a TV or other devices (PCs, consoles etc.) a lot, it energy efficiency because pretty important.

I just bought my first Oled and am blown away by the picture
Yes, I love Vincent's complete analysis (some of which is beyond me, but I'm learning! LOL) but if you see an OLED in the flesh, the picture quality is amazing and takes your breath away. I understand everyone has different standards and needs, especially gamers. But the average person will be more than satisfied with an OLED TV.
That demo with only the backlights enabled on the two mini leds versus the OLED was really interesting to see
But it also highlights a key problem with FALD displays, the backlight LEDs lag the image being displayed. You can see how the image jump cuts (no fade/transition) at 6:44 between each scene (use the OLED as reference), but the LEDs are clearly taking a while to go from fully dim to whatever light level they need to achieve. This creates a very distorted imagine for about 300ms, easy to miss on most content, but it drives me crazy on a bunch of games that I play.

I hope the dimming zones density will increase drastically over the next years. The current density is too low for my taste, you usually can see a lot of blooming in some content.
You are literally watching this on whatever you own. The side by side comparison is literally displayed on your TV or monitor. Bear it in mind when you notice differences...

I've had too many burn-in issues with OLEDs. Got the X95L and it's fantastic.
I can't wait to go back to mini led personally. I'm tired of my screen dimming when watching sports and playing games. And the lack of full field brightness is really distracting when watching high luminance content. I have the a90j and x930e and I still, in may aspects, think the x930e pops more in hdr

Agreed, but it sure would be nice to have a QD-OLED panel that hits at or close to 100” in a price range of no more than $10K. The picture on my A90J 83” Master Series is still breathtaking, and I won’t go smaller in size - only larger.

A95L continues through 2024 as the OLED flagship. Makes sense for Sony to take that gap year and make a comeback in the LCD sector, especially with no real improvements from Samsung Display’s panels this year. Looking forward to seeing how the X95M performs next to the BVM-HX310 in your tests.
That’s right. The A95L will be the top Oled dog for 2024, so Sony can bring a top mini LCDTV for 2024 with improvements than last years X95L, which was the best Mini-LED in the market and was widely praised.

But it also is not really a thing, because content is 60-144 hz or 16-6.9ms.
Which is part of why OLED sucks. The horrible stuttering on OLEDs as a result of high response times defeats the benefits.

@@erickbodom10v312that same instant pixel response time creates a distracting strobing effect when a continuous pattern is displayed, BFI was set to remedy this but the panel takes a massive hit in brightness, reduces your frame-rate by half, disables vrr and other processes, and it obviously increases the response time

I’m on a CX and I’ll be waiting for fully phosphorescent OLED to upgrade. Massive increase in efficiency that should effectively eliminate burn in while increasing brightness. MLA should be a standard feature by that point as well.

CX is a massive step down from just the C2 or C3 with MLA. Waiting for that is like going from a Calculator to a Supercomputer. Good luck with that
@@DNGR369 What are you talking about? The C2 is basically imperceptibly different than the CX other than improved viewing angles, and the C3 is up to 20% brighter in HDR, and like 5% brighter in SDR. Color Gamut identical between all 3 TVs. If I upgraded to a C3, an argument could be made that for the majority of content, I might not even notice a difference.
@@suni08 Oh absolutely mandatory before I’d consider buying an OLED computer monitor. The way I use my computer monitor would be absolutely abusive to my TV.
@@MechAdv Using a G2 as a monitor (before that the B8, and both) without issues here on my gaming rig. But I can imagine in office use cases it wouldn't be desirable.
I also own a HTC Vive vr headset with OLED panels and a HTC Vive Pro2 with LCD panels but whilst the resolution is higher the original Vive outshines the newer Vive Pro2 in dark scenes. If you are playing a driving/racing game in night time conditions with little light elements it will seem as if you are driving in a fog with the Vive Pro2.
Also I bought a Samsung Galaxy S20+ with AMOLED and after that a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 with LCD panel... again a dissapointment.
If it's not OLED nowadays I am not going to buy it anymore. It is just causing me to be annoyed with the poor image quality and a backlight display is more tiring for the eyes than a self-emissive display, so even for eye strain and fatigue I'd prefer OLED.

I purchased my first OLED in 2020, a 77 LG CX, after hearing horror stories of burn in but also hearing how great the picture looks on those tv's. Well, after a little over 3 years, I am never, ever buying an LCD tv again. I was upgrading LCD tv's almost every year before getting the CX due to one issue or another (blooming, slow response times, HDMI handshake issues), but the CX has been the best TV I have owned and when it's time to replace it, I will only replace it with another OLED. I host movie night at my house and even though the CX is considered fairly old at this point, people still comment on how great the picture looks while we watch movies. I want to try the Sony OLED but the lack of 2.1 HDMI inputs has so far kept me away from them. As far as energy use, I couldn't care less and I believe this is nonsense that Sony is coming up with to sell LCD tv's for for a premium price, only to make a bigger profit.
I felt the same way as you did back in the day with Plasma TVs. Except, I knew not to even buy a LCD TV in the first place. I went from CRT TVs straight to Plasma TVs, then straight to OLED TVs.

I went over to my neighbors house a few months ago and noticed a pink halo all around the entire screen, the screen was burned out all around the edges, but they didn't even notice until I pointed it out to them. I would say they represent the regular consumer who believes that a 300 dollar TCL or Westinghouse LCD is comparable to a 3000 or 4000 dollar OLED panel because they look the same in the store, under bright lights and in VIVID mode, which their new tv is set to, with all the motion settings set to HIGH. I stopped providing any input cause it's their tv and they're enjoying it, so who am I to say they're doing it wrong.

Well, time to pull the trigger on the A95L. Although I may wait a month to take advantage of price drops, if any.
I was about to do the same thing, however the much touted A95L Multiview feature (side by side, split screen) has not been delivered by Sony. If Sony is canning the A95L, it's a fair bet Multiview will never see the light of day.
Not good, I want to be able to play a video game over HDMI on one side while following a UA-cam tutorial on the other. I want to keep an eye on a sports event while watching a movie, etc. Can't do any of that without Multiview. Looks like it's going to be LG. Sad.

After I made the switch to OLED and considering how completely and utterly satisfied me myself, my family, friends, everyone who watches movies on my OLED-TV are, this is the panel technology I will stay at.
That's certainly surprising. I wonder whether it's a decision that makes sense for the general customer (who never touches the settings and watches a variety of content in random lighting conditions) but not for the enthusiast who is willing to spend the time and watts for the best possible experience? I can't wait to see Vincent's review comparing the final TV with the top-tier models and see what the real-world results are like.

I have one of their 2023 mini led tvs, it's really good and I've enjoyed it thoroughly.
I’ll be purchasing a new flagship 85” tv this year and have always loved my Sony tv’s. Should I expect to see this new tech in a 85” display this year?? Probably need to buy around May due to a move.
6:10 That should reduce flicker somewhat (making the peaks less bright, and making them last for longer before going black), but certainly not remove it. Are there any flicker-free mini LED TVs?
When I bought my LG C1, there were literally just a few flicker-free non-OLED TVs of any kind on the market (most of which were Sonys).

@@cardinalroma7495 Almost all of them should be very close to flicker free, only having a tiny dip in brightness at the refresh rate, so usually 120 Hz. The dip is way smaller than the dip in an incandescant light bulb (at 100/120 Hz), so anyone who could tolerate them should be able to tolerate OLEDs!
RTINGS always tests for this in their reviews, so check there. You can even filter on it.
Basically the best TV Sony will sell in 2024 will be the A95L. Simpls

What equipment would you recommend for someone that wants to get something to try and calibrate their own displays.. or is it not worth doing?
My brother bought the s90c qd oled 55 inches and i bought the qn90b mini qled 55 inches. When we compared both side by side we couldn't see any major differences apart from the obvious perfect black levels of the qd oled and that was only when we made the room pitch black with no light pollution at all, and of course the advantage of brightness the qn90b has over every other tv out there, but still both amazing with their advantages and disadvantages, you simply can't have it all in one for the time being. Now when it comes to Sony as a previous user of a sony tv, well it had its issues but it wasn't a flagship and I've seen Sony's flagships last very long with no signs of quality degradation at all.
Honestly I've had a LG OLED and now own a TCL mini led QLED, I am amazed with the quality of the picture on the TCL. I still prefer the LG but the quality is very close and we're talking about TCL here not Sony so I have very high hopes for a Sony mini led tv!

I don't watch TV enough to justify buying a OLED, so went the same route, and while OLED's certainly look better - it's not like it used to be, the gap has narrowed a decent amount, so if you're not someone always watching TV, OLED is a hard sell with it's price point, and how good some of the higher end LED's have gotten recently.

Interesting thanks for the information. I enjoy the breakdown of the technology in your videos. I am less interested in power consumption for a tv. Instead I like high-quality 4K images with fast processing and low latency. I use my tv mainly for gaming and streaming like netflix and hulu etc. So features that improve those functions are appreciated. I enjoy the true black of the OLED. Waiting for the QOLED tvs to come out.
Power use on TVs seems pointless, the draws are minuscule compared to refrigerator or dryer…
True, and half the year they are helping to heat your home anyway.
Depends on the fridge. Mine draws 34W avg, according to Energy Star. Dryer is infrequent enough to not be enormous. Most places, A/C is major though.

The vast majority of people keep their TVs for a long period of time. I remember the days of Trinitron where the tv would last decades and corss generations. Mini LED would ensure longevity, and would make more practical sense for most consumers. With OLED you get outstanding image quality that degrades over time. Mini LED gives more consistent image quality over time, given a bit of tradeoff with image quality, which will be more acceptable to most consumers.
I'm using an LCD TV from the 2000s. I like the small screen and it has very good front-facing speakers.
Nothing is ensuring longevity these days because the software will eventually go out of support and become a hazard for hacking in your private network, it will miss out on support for new HDR modes, and the new HDCP encryption required to display content in a way that's harder to pilot means eventually any TV purchased today simply won't work for most content eventually. Isn't the future grand?

Not only does the embedded software gets dated within a couple years.. but processing power of the TV gets split between picture quality and having to render the interface of the internal apps..
That's why several features are disabled until you use an external source.

Mini LED is a backlight type.
LCD is a panel type.
Mini LED is nothing more than a band-aid for LCD's weak contrast ratio.
The contrast ratio is tied to the number of local dimming zones.
OLED has 1:1 pixel level dimming which means over 8 million "dimming zones" for 4K resolution and over 33 million "dimming zones" for 8K resolution.
No Mini LED LCD TV will ever reach OLED's contrast ratio. EVER.
The closest consumer LCD TV that came the closest to OLED is the now-discontinued Hisense U9DG Dual Cell LCD TV which has a secondary 1080p grayscale panel behind the 4K main panel aka over 2 million local dimming zones.

I have two mini led products and I can tell you the only problem has been flight simulator 2020 at night. That's it!
I have the qn90b, and let me tell you that if you setup the tv properly you can barely notice the blooming. If you raise everything at max then yes it won't only have blooming but it will scorch your eyeballs as well. Oleds are great but they are still weak compared to mini qleds. I had the C1 for about a year and i sold it to get the qn90b, because i couldn't see a damn thing during the day. So my brother bought the s90c qd oled for 1.500 euros, and i bought the qn90b on discount for 870 euros, but the s90c no matter if it's a qd oled it still suffers from that brightness weakness, which is a shame if you consider its price, a step up from regular oleds yes but still behind mini qleds. The qn90b is still far superior in this department let me tell you like any other flagship mini qled in the price range of the qn90b.

Typically spoken by someone who doesn't know anything. Like that other guy said, in person you don't see any blooming for most part with the top LCD TV's. Only if you're watching in a perfectly dark room you might notice slight blooming. What you see on a youtube video is not representative to what you see in-person at all. Sadly most OLED fanboys don't seem to be aware of this fact.
And the fact is that the best of OLED and the best of LED (which I also count mini-LED under) have pretty minor differences. LED can get brighter, OLED has a slight advantage in very dark rooms and some specific types of scenes like a night sky with stars. Outside of those specific scenes you won't even notice a difference for even the dark scenes unless you're in a perfectly dark room (and even then it's a minor difference).
It's a shame UA-camrs don't properly cover this and just OLED wank all the way for most part.
@@thenonexistinghero that's utter copium. oled has massively better response times, lower input latency, way better dark image detail, better black levels, no blooming (YES YOU CAN SEE IT if you take off the bias-tinted glasses), better almost everything other than full screen brightness. youtubers say what they say because it's what they see and they don't have an agenda to cover, like you do.
I'm calling it now...Sony will release a QD-OLED A95M once Samsung implements phosphorescent OLED. This feels like a stop gap move to let the Panel prices go down. Also since Sony has position the brand as Premium brand, they will see sales drop in the year(s) in between the transition to phosphorescent OLED. Most AV companies/Installers will still continue to push OLED as the only premium choice for their clients.

@@frostgodxplasma WAS it. Plasma was the best picture until they quit making it in 2014. Plasma had deep blacks and natural skin tones that LED couldn't match. My Pioneer Elite 60 inch still works beautifully, though it has been moved to my bedroom in favor of my Sony A95L 77 inch which now graces my living room.
Plasmas were heavy. Heavy means less profits for TV manufacturers due to increased shipping costs. Heavy means installers need help, so installation costs more for the average consumer that can't do it themselves because they are paying two installers instead of one. And plasma was just better than its competition in terms of video quality in its day, and more complicated to manufacture, so it cost more to start with. There are lots of reasons why one technology dies while another continues. Most consumers are looking for low prices. Not nearly as many are looking for quality.

My Sony 85 ZG9 (from 2020, released in 2019) with 4000 !!! Nits is still absolutely stunning, especially for HDR movies.
Only major disadvantage it consumes 1kW! 😅

I love this guys reviews on display technology! 🙏 Now he just needs to tell me what the cheapest 45-50 inch screen is with 4k, 120fps, Freesync, HDR10, low input latency & good brightness is that would work great as computer screens so I can replace my 2nd gen 6 series Samsungs that are over 7 years old and delaminating from backlight panels and flickering like crazy.

The last, and I mean dead last thing I care about is the power consumption of my tv.

So, I will at some point 👉 want to replace my Pioneer Kuro 60 plasma 2008. Still as perfect from 1st day of use. I watch these comparison videos and am totally confused as to what to go for. I want a good picture, black that is black, oled or led or whatever, or samsung or LG.......what is the route for my purchase?
I am sure many movies will just pop with this technology, but I love the inky blacks of my OLED. I based my TV on the type of movies I watched. My list is like sci-fi, space, and horror so John Wick, Aliens, IT, Star Wars, Star Trek, Dark Knight Trilogy, etc...all look great. It is just a matter of compromising on brightness or blackness when deciding on what TV to buy. For some people, the blacks in the non-OLED are perfectly fine, so maybe those are a better option ? Only thing I hate is the OLED will probably get wrecked in trying to move it to another place.
But what about input lag? Are they finally able to achieve single digit input lag when using the best local dimming mode?
According to rtings, the G3 or C3 have the lowest input lag at half the A95L

@@techsamurai11 Too many gamers dont understand this. They're fretting over differences of like 3-5ms on the displays, all while console games are frequently running 70ms+, sometimes even over 100ms of lag just inherent to the game. Sure, some more competitive games will get down to like 40-50ms, but again, the difference of another 3-5ms or so will not be perceptible, much less meaningful for anybody but the most hardcore of hardcore.

@@techsamurai11 When you compare everything side by side, you're not losing anything. Dolby Vision? Very few movies and games even ship with it on a disc or streaming so it doesnt matter. The lower the number, the better.

It's probably because Sony needs to keep the margins and improve sales. They cant't keep the prices low enough if Samsung doesn't sell them the panels at a low enough cost.
Yes cause they fucked up with pricing in Europe and barely anyone is choosing Sony over LG or Samsung. Low energy use nice but I doubt we will see much noticeable image improvement over X95L. G4 will provide even better picture this year and Sony not releasing new oled will loose even more sales.

I just bought a TCL QM8 (Mini Led) to replace my old LG Oled, it lasted a week the motion control was dreadful I tried every permutation of the motion smoothing control I just kept seeing jitter in fast moving scenes. I ended up giving it to my daughter and purchasing a LG C3

I have a request; since i understand you to be a man of impeccable colour accuracy. Could you possibly check out the new Forza games HDR implementation. I really enjoy this game, and on the series consoles for the most part it looks great. But the HDR definitely has something going on with it. I feel this needs your attention sir.
The backlight technology is certainly impressive, but aside blooming which is getting better and better, what it is a bit offputing for me compared to any OLED display is this kind of latency particularly visible at 6:46, the time it takes to go from one brightness to another... (I say that but i do have a fald tv myself and i'm ok with it ^^)
Some brands already have made blooming completely disappear (TCL)
One major downside of this is that now with this News arriving, we can't expect prices for A95L to drop anytime soon then 😕

I hope the price goes down. Up in Canada they want $4999 for the A95L 65 inch and I have seen the same size of LG G3 on sale for$3098. You can't convince me that the Sony at $1900 more is that huge of an improvement in picture. If that price doesn't come down a good margin then I am buying the G3
It won't drop. Sony keeps very tight control of inventory on the Master series which is why the 95K never got discounted much at all.

We have both a Z9K and an A95K. We prefer the viewing the A95K 😊
Never moved to oled due to burn-in worry and love bright screens. I own a Samsung 75"Q90R and use a mini led ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 32" 4K which I'm very impressed with for gaming with pc

I'm hoping that Samsung puts 2 and 2 together and releases a MicroLED-QD. MicroLED tech isn't there to drive smaller displays just by itself, but I have to imaging that you could substantially reduce the cost by making a bigger, lower resolution, blue-monochromatic MicroLED panel and using that to drive some Quantum Dots.

What I'm hearing is that Sony sees higher profit margins on mini led tvs, and so they are putting marketing and engineering resources into driving that market even if it is inferior in overall picture quality to oled.
Hey Vince!!! Question please... So is this kind of like a successor to the original Backlight Master Drive on the Z9D, in which each individual LED was controlled as its own zone, but super-charged? I imagine if each driver controls 6 zones which contain 4 mini-LEDs per zone, we'll be seeing at least a double of total zones on this TV as compared to the mighty Z9D? The 65Z9D had approx 480 zones, and the 75 version had approx north of 820.
We could be looking at a 75 inch Z9M (with this technology) packing in 1,600 zones!!! I'm drooling already 🤩
So long as they dont skimp on the resolution support (as in support 1440p) get the panel to 144hz and give us lots of full bandwidth 2.1 ports, sounds good to me. Of course, some FPR 3D support would really kick this into the must buy section though.
Why would a TV makers waste time as resources on an irrelevant resolution? TVs should *avoid* 1440p as even the really inexpensive TVs can do 4k.

Pretty big move considering the industry marketing has been OLED OLED OLED for years now. Now the flagship is going to be an LED. Interesting to see how they compare.
In game mode, horrible, because backlight control is turned down to a few zones only. No LCD TV with FALD/Mini LED backlight does well in gaming, because you loose tons of IQ -or- get 200-300ms of added input lag. Backlight control is slow.

@@jaimem1788 Nope. Not even close to true. I've owned both. LED looks presentable in a brightly lit room, but that's it. The only LCD I have worth owning is HP's DreamColor monitor. Fantastic picture in terms of color volume (98% Adobe RGB); but it lacks contrast ratio and black level compared to OLED.
The question is which one do they consider as “flagship” I’m assuming this is the successor to X95L. Are they still going to release a successor to A95L with OLED panels but consider the mini LED one as “flagship” or are they going to give up on OLED? Sony A95L just came out.
It makes complete sense for Sony NOT to launch a QD-OLED flagship TV in 2024.
They've had 2 year gaps between flagship TV's multiple times in the past. Nothing new.

But also I think that Sony is trying ditch oled for good, maybe to introduce Microled technology in their TV lineup in the near future this is their goal.

@@paulc5389Believe it or not yes, when Sony started rolling out brighter displays it was the first time 480p content on my old DVDs & my laserdiscs finally looked good to me on modern displays, they now closely match how they used to look on my old boob tube TVs that glowed like a radioactive rod. It makes up for the low resolution and lower color palettes.
Having made the switch to OLED, I can’t see myself ever willingly using an LCD again, unless it’s a mature microLED panel.
How do you deal with the burned images and all the dead pixels?

@@avenged110 i'm getting some dead pixels around the edges of both my lg b9 and my c1. it is certainly less distracting than the dirty screen effect i usually got from LCDs tvs at this age, not to mention less distracting than all of the natural image defects of an LCD tv. a worn out oled is still better than a brand new lcd. no burn in, though. both of them still 100% clear.
When I decided to get a new TV after many years, I expected to get an OLED, but ended up with an X90L because the increase in brightness was way more importatn to me than the blooming. It is rare that I notice the bloom, usually only in the credits, but the brightnes of daylight scens or special effects is very impactful.
Plus no burn in issues to worry about
Yeah most people don’t care about accurate colors, fluid motion and great viewing angles. Just make the display as bright as the sun.
@@ZackSNetwork I was very concerned about fluid motion, which is why I got the Sony. It's been a big concern of mine for a long time, and one fo the reasons I put off buying an expensive TV for so long, the jumpiness was so bad it was nauseating to watch. The Sonys were better than the LGs in this regard, and I didn't detect any difference between the backlit and OLED models. You're right about viewing angles, there is a limited area from which anyone will watch my TV, but I spent time examining this in stores, and again, something that was a big issue in the past is close to unnoticeable on modern TVs. Accurate colors are hard to judge, since there are so many ways shops can manipulate that via different settings, although I thought the Samsungs seemed too colorful.
People like OLEDs because they read they have infinite contrast, a function of the mathematics of dividing by zero, anything can have infinite contrast if it can shut all the way off, even if it's the dimmest TV in the world.
AMAZING! im still happy with my S95B model from 1 year and half ago from samsung... i will see if sony improves even further this new tech after a few iterations, however i believe PHOLED will be the game changer in a few years time no burn in risk and more brigtness from oled.... so who knows.

The problem with dimming zones is that in game or pc mode the image quality drastically lowers, or you will get 200-300 ms added latency. Useless for gaming.
@@Dr.WhetFarts Yeah that is completely nonsense. Modern FALD TV's have anywhere from 20/10ms latency. They don't get 200/300ms latency for using the FALD. IDK what type of FALD screens you've used but the ones I own don't turn off FALD when you switch to PC or Gaming mode. It turns off other processing like motion smoothing etc which is why gaming mode always tends to look worse, because it's turning off all that image processing they normally use for movies and shows. But FALD isn't one of the things that is turned off.

Even for MiniLED Sony's amount of dimming zones is on the low end. I wish they just went all out instead of going with such low amounts.
@@3choblast3r4 Yeah, it is complete nonsense. Straight up lies. Even my 5 year old LED still has about maybe 20 ms or so latency even with HDR turned on. The image quality doesn't lower at all. In fact, it still looks absolutely fantastic.
At 2:02 you can clearly see darkish horizontal and vertical lines "between" the leds, and this is showing through in the picture side (on the left). Is this a flaw in their system, or just some sort of aliasing going on inside the camera? It's especially bad at 2:05
It's a camera it happens.
I suspect what you are referring to is actually camera artifacts when filming the TV. A moiré effect. Didn't see that on other videos showing the exact same demos. It's not the TVs when you see that effect.

I can see what you’re talking about. Like you said in the worst section it is most clearly visible le to me right at and above the roofline of the yellow car. I really have to zoom in to see it but it’s there for sure. It makes me wonder how visible it might be at average viewing distances. For me it would probably make it a non starter as I sit where the display takes up 40° of my field of view which is the closest that THX recommends.

I want Mini LED for my monitors due to static imagery and lights on work, but would defiantly prefer for OLED TV's to stay around, for that lights off cinema experience.
Likely we are being had by Sony here. I think they want to sell more LCDs and make it look like LCD is their big thing now to make that happen. Nex year or the year after they will be totally OLED again.
The X95L is the best tv I have ever owned, coming from a G1 and many other LEDs and OLEDs before that (still have a CX and a QD-OLED monitor). Can’t wait for the new miniled flagship

Let me preface my comments by saying I've long been a fan of Sony TVs. My first new color TV was a 27" Sony Trinitron CRT. Then a decade later, I replaced that 27" Sony with the 35 inch XBR Sony flagship CRT that came out 6 months after DVD was introduced to the American market. And that particular 35" TV (a 198 lb. beast of a table model) was the exact Sony Trinitron 35" model that TV reviews recommended as the top TV for getting the best possible picture quality out of the then new DVD video format. And in our basement's dark theater room we now use a terrific Master Series Sony OLED that's a 77" version of the 65" A9G OLED which won a Value Electronics Shootout. So certainly, we've had a great run with Sony TVs, but I recall a claim Sony made for LCD TV as 1080p was the state of the art resolution, that makes me skeptical about Sony's claims for its newest local dimming LCD. Because during the 1080p era just mentioned, promotional materials for Sony's 1080p Bravia LCD TVs, claimed that those TVs would keep up with plasma TVs in EVERY area of performance, even saying that usable viewing angles would not be compromised compared to plasma. But anyone who then experienced Pioneer's Kuro Plasmas just laughed at Sony even trying to imply that ANY 1080p Bravia LCD could compare favorably with a 1080p Kuro! And that's why I now question how even a top notch Sony version of local dimming tech could possibly match a quality OLED which is capable of controlling EACH one of its 8.3 million pixels, so each of those millions of pixels is virtually its OWN dimming zone! And that's why so many of the tiniest stars in a star field, such as those in deep space scenes on the BD of the movie "Gravity", are nowhere to be seen, simply not showing up, as such a scene is displayed on even the best available local dimming LCDs. Yet those same tiny stars that are always missing on a local dimming LCD are clearly visible on ANY good OLED, due to that TV's capability of controlling each pixel, giving OLED a level of precision that even LCDs with 50 thousand zones would NOT have!
That's why ALL OLEDs have ZERO blooming, & can do ABSOLUTE BLACK, since every single OLED pixel can be fully shut off!
So it's likely that since LCD panels are FAR less COSTLY to produce than OLED panels are, a need to increase TV profit margins in an industry that's seeing profit margins rapidly shrinking, is THE main factor causing Sony to suddenly give such priority to LCD!
Response time on the new SONy LED seems slower than the X95L and OLED. I think this will be an issue. Similar issue that the QN90A exhibited. While bright with many LEDs, the QN90A had a very bad case of slow backlighting transitions between images.
I won't be leaving OLED any time soon! I have an OLED and a MiniLED screen and the OLED is FAR superior!

That's strategy. To show independence. This goes in the direction of Samsung and LG in the form: "Hey look here, if you don't give us a good price for OLED, we won't buy anything, we'll build mini-LED instead." It's similar to what Samsung is doing with the Exynos: "Hey, look here, give us a cheap Snapdragon chips because we could also switch everything to Exynos..."
What? Lol samsung is making there own qd oled panels haha. The only oled panels they buy from lg are regular oled and they will have an 80 series oled this year. Just no qd oled. Sony doesn't usually make flagship master seriees oled tvs every year. They skipped a year after releasing the a90j also. This is nornal with sony but again there flagship qd oled panels are made by Samsung not lg. Lg only makes wrgb oled panels.
First of all, LOL! Sony doesn't care about its customers so that "strategy" and "independence" is solely for their bottom line and nothing else. No reason to celebrate that as a consumer. This is the company that installed rootkits on their CDs to infect the computers of those they thought were stealing their music. They also just removed a ton of content from people's PS libraries that they paid for and thought it was all cool to just steal from their customers. It took a tsunami of internet backlash for them to reverse the baffling decision. Point being? Sony does not GAF about its customers, only its bottom line. Same could likely be said by most if not all companies and that's fine. But then there's no reason to admire their strategy if it's also their strategy to extract as much money from your wallet as possible.
Regardless, this doesn't change that, at the end of the day, OLED is simply superior from an image quality standpoint. Consumers in search of the best image quality were virtually always steered to Sony OLEDs year after year. That won't be the case for 2024 and whether they were showing "independence" or not, they still left a lot of cash on the table and likely irritated a lot of their fans who were waiting for this year's OLED offering instead of buying last year's. Kinda silly to lose BOTH image quality and irritate your customers all for the sake of "independence". Perhaps they could, idk, charge less for their insanely overpriced offerings and maybe even include 4 2.1 HDMI ports by default?...

After using an OLED (I use the LG C1) as a computer monitor, you will never want to go back to LCD. Whenever I switch over to my old LCD panel the blacks just look mid grey now compared . . . .
