I've recently been re-testing some monitors with the latest firmware. Here's what I've found from the Asus PG32UCDM with the latest MCM103 firmware release: ✅Fixed: Brightness on AMD GPUs now reaches 1000 nits without EDID hacks and EOTF tracking is good at a 2%/10% window size ❌Not fixed: Poor EOTF tracking at high window sizes like 25% and 50% which leads to lower than expected brightness in high APL scenes (in the brightest mode) I've run a few real world tests and for reference brightness in high APL content (eg the sky in sunny scenes) can be about 25% higher on the WOLED-based LG 32GS95UE than the QD-OLED PG32UCDM. The LG monitor also has poor tracking at high window sizes like 25%, but not as bad as most QD-OLEDs. This is something all OLED brands need to work on.
Thanks for the update. Aside updating firmware and using the windows HDR set-up/calibration. Is there anything else a new user should do before useage ? ( win11/nvidia )
Thanks Tim for posting an update regarding this issue. Could you please forward this to ASUS directly as well, as it would carry a lot more weight compared to us 'regular' owners sending in reports and complaints, which me and several others have been doing for a month and half now.

Thank you for not shying away from the burn-in issues, and commenting on it several times. Critical for potential customers, but also important to keep in the discourse and to incentivize manufacturers to do better on this issue. Also thanks for specifying it's a passively cooled monitor (very important for some of us), and for spending time on the coating and issues with a glossy one. Good review!
Yeah at lot of people skip this. Sure I game on my monitor but I also do desktop work, job applications, read manga, have multiple virtual machines open., study for certificates, ohh and I play a lot of games like RTS with fixed UI just like a desktop.
@@ChinchillaDaveNo I don't think it would. I Play Wow sometimes 8 hours a day on my 42" LG oled and after one year of absolute abuse, I have ZERO burn in. Of course, it may still come, sure. But most people don't even have real world use and are telling you they know. OLED's have come a long way. I'm not saying there will never be burn in, just that it's come a LONG WAY. My last oled I had for 2 years and absolutely abused it and I also has zero burn in.
Scalpers buy them out to create a shortage and resell at a huge markup. Happens with all new highly desired tech. It's a shame but that's what happens with monitors, graphics cards, gaming consoles etc., etc., if there's a high expected demand for a new launch product the scalpers setup bots to scan for stock online and buy every out.
In UK the Asus is available for pre-order at £1350 while the Alienware is available at £989. In Europe the Alienware is ~€1150 and the Asus is expected at €1500(haven't seen it available anywhere yet)
yeah, I don't really feel much point in waiting for the other brands here in the UK since the Alienwares are so much cheaper than all of them. BFI or any other extras just aren't worth the difference
Great video. Absolutely love that I'm considering upgrading from the LG C2 42" and that it was used in the comparisons so I can see just how much of an upgrade it would truly be.

All while being able to display an A2 paper size at real size! With the text issue finally being addressed... they are now, at least, considerable. The price to burn-in risk ratio being the only remaining issue holding one back as i like to get a decent return on my investment due to the price of these things (currently still using a Dell U3014 and its been a painful wait for a better suitable monitor that hits my requirements to make it worth the spend!). it's going to be a painful wait for the WOLED releases to see how they stack up... i've waited so long, this time difference i'll have to wait will be the most painful. lol
I purchased the LG 48” OLED monitor last year but found it was too large for desk gaming and the auto dim feature drove me nuts. Here I am a year later now thinking this might be the solution. Apparently they’re making these one by one (sarcasm) at the factory so I’m gonna have to wait patiently. Thanks for the review! EDIT: Got one backordered for May 24th so here's hoping it arrives with no issues!
>Here I am a year later now thinking this might be the solution. Yeah, I wasted a lot of money with bigger monitors. I think 32" is the sweet spot for most PC monitors. You might also look into the LG 32 4k@240Hz OLED monitor.
The HUB checklist is SO DAMN GOOD. Like I just check the red crosses if there is any downside that might affect my needs, if not, seeing how much Tim liked it, it's a guranteed buy but then again, I'd go with the Dell because of Dolby Vision.
@@Tomiply you are aware you can hook anything into this, right? DV is amazing for an Xbox Series X and for a dedicated media player. Most big movies today are DV so as an all in one solution, this is great. But yeah, purely for a Windows perspective the value is negligible.
I have a 42" LG C2 OLED that I have had for a year now. I do not treat it any differently than any other monitor. I leave things up on the screen and walk away, I play games like World of Warcraft with INCREDIBLY static elements for sometimes up to 8-10 hours a day and do a lot of static youtube watching. I have zero burn in. Zero.
The question that haunts me is whether I should buy the LG C3 42" for around a 1k in Europe of grab the PG32UCDM for 1.5k - do you have any personal issues with the 42"? Are shooters etc. still playable?
Tim with all these 4k 240hz monitors coming out I would like to see a video about downscaling as most of the GPUs currently out here can't run 4k at 240z. I would like to know the pros and cons of downscaling to 1080p and 1440p on a 4k monitor for gaming. Something I noticed with my M27QX at 1440p is if you have a monitor that runs at 240 you typically chase that top speed with your settings (at least I did). I have a hard time seeing the difference once I am over 175ish.
Just use nearest neighbor, aka integer scaling, or DLSS. Most games will require for you to use DLSS anyways, since AI upscaling is now the only good catch-all anti-aliasing solution.
Oh ya, anything you use for upscaling at a lower resolution that isn't nearest neighbor will look soft and muddy. 1080p, for instance, is still a fairly sizable resolution. So it may not look all that bad. I know that to be the case because that's the resolution I used on my 4k laptop for some time.
Doing the Lord's work here. I intend to buy this year in April( When they are becoming available in the UK), and this is the sweet spot I am interested in. Thanks for your efforts in this product sector!
Are you aware if the new panel coating is only applied to the larger panels, if the new TVs by Samsung Electronics use an even newer panel generation or if there is any other reason why it is absent on these monitors? (e.g inkjet incompatible with the new coating and the new TVs are using shadow mask panels)
@@hugevibez im not sure what you are asking. they are both 3rd gen, all the CES coverage i saw, the TV's have the same coating AFAIK. i have the AW 32" model and also a S95B, coatings look the same to me.
if you listen to what he says carefully, he never calls this 2nd gen QD-OLED. Not to mention that it specifically shows this as 3rd gen at the beginning. If you’re gonna correct people, at least learn to listen properly to what they’re saying first lol
@justsaying993 the irony. However the only defense you could have. Is him referring to the pixel layout changing on 2nd gen. However he continues to speak as if this is just 2nd gen with ink jet process for 140ppi. Which it is not just that. That would be incorrect, hence my comment. Thank you for the excellent review! The only question for me left unanswered is how bad the flicker/gamma shift effect is with VRR and games with highly variable framerates. You very quickly mentioned no dirty screen effect with dark greys. That's good. That effect ruins my LG. The inability to turn off deep sleep is a really big deal for multiple monitor users and probably deserves more of a call out.
I definitely agree that I enjoy the more clean look over the old over stimulated gamer look they used to do on their monitors. It just needs high quality gamer functions and minimalistic design and that's all gamers want.
Still so happy I scored a 42 C2 for $700 back in 2022. Can’t justify upgrading to these insane displays until I can afford a pc that pushes these specs even close to natively
Endgame is literally the dumbest word to use for any kind of tech. There is no endgame. A year from whenever you buy an "endgame" device, it will be outclassed by a better piece of tech. That will never end. People love using that term even though it's absolutely meaningless.
Yeah, my miniLED Samsung Neo G8 was the endgame and before that there were LG 4K 144Hz monitors. Now I want this “endgame” monitor. Jokes aside, this one looks very promising though. I would even take a good 4K 60hz panel with decent price. This is more than I asked for!
@@mattspeer01endgame doesn't mean it won't ever be outclassed, it means that it covers every single want and need that you have so even if a better product comes out there is no reason to upgrade. @@houssamalucad753 cool, so what you’re saying is that you will still be using this monitor 30 years from now because it meets all your current needs and those needs/desires will never change even when far better tech exists. Makes sense 😂
It’s been over a month now owning the PG33UCDM and my favorite thing about it are the two sRGB modes it features. One targets a flat 2.2 gamma and the other sRGB gamma. This makes a huge difference depending on the game and both modes maintain excellent color accuracy. Aside from wonderful HDR performance, in my opinion this is the best SDR gaming monitor ever made despite the lower brightness in game.

Hey, m8, I just got a PG32UCDM, and have noticed something I missed (or was missing) in your vid... the coil whine. It looks like it's also the deal with other brands, like MSI... the high-pitch coil whine when the monitor is off is bothering people enough to even try RMA. It's not much per se, Asus staff mentioned 18dB in a thread on rog forums, but the high frequency makes sure it is well-heard. I installed a power switch on the power socket to be able to power it off when not using it. FYI. Please consider looking out for such details in future reviews. Cheers!
it is techincally END Game for DP 1.4 DSC BS. everything going forward should be DP 2.1, including the UDCP most likely. as MSI HP and Gigabyte already have DP 2.1 on their versions of this panel

32" 4k@240 is definitely future proof for at least 5 years i'd say. i guess not even RTX 5090 in 2025 will be able to max out this display, the 6090 in 2027 just maybe. so yeah, more than enough headroom
@@Savitaraxdepends on the game i would say, what resolution and what detail level. I have a 4090 and a 4k@160hz monitor and the only the type of game i described hits maybe 100-120 if lucky. A game like diablo 4, yeah sure, that one gets to 160 with headroom for 200 or more.

Remember that you’ll always be chasing a display setting. What I mean is that as games become more demanding, you’ll need a more powerful gpu to run that same setting. Which is why, what a 4090 can do today won’t be the same in the future as you have to slowly drop setting to have better performance.
Great review Tim! Personally, I'm going to wait till i see the WOLED model and see how the new RWGB or RGWB (whichever it is) layout is. That long with MLA I'm expecting much better brightness/or better burn in protection since MLA means not driving the pixels as hard to achieve ~1000nits. the fact we even have this choice is so good. You're right, this is the start, not the end!
Suggestion, when looking at VRR, could you investigate how wide the sync window is? 60-240? 48-240? Also LFC (will the display handle dips below sync window gracefully) should be included in your essentials list. According to Freesync Premium certificate the unit should have LFC, but it woul be good to know for cheaper units in case we get more semi-baked AAA games like starfield 😅
@Monitors Unboxed have you tried updating the firmware of neo g7 to 1009 , people say it lowers the Response Time Performance , if you haven't can you please try that
Thank you Tim for this review! Been waiting for these to hit both the market and réviewers, really considering a monitor switch this year. Now only to await the price in Sweden, and the comparisions between the different models of this panel.
This gave me all the information I was after. I WFH, have 2x 32" 60hz Dell Business Monitors right now and was considering upgrading one to a Gaming OLED. I think I might wait for the LG Panel Reviews to come out and compare both before I jump in, I know anything will be a huge upgrade, but if I'm gonna spend that much money I want to get it right and have it last.
Same here, if i’m spending 1000-ish dollars/euros i need to be sure. So i’m really torn between these monitors or 42 inch oled tv- the c3 is cheaper than these and i would use it for gaming only, but i’m scared of the size, and i’m use to monitors. But which one to buy😂
I would agree, if it weren't an OLED. This is the maximum resolution anyone needs and the maximum frame rate anyone needs, and it has a stellar image, but its longevity and use for productivity is lacking.
great review as always Tim. But to anyone that may buy this or any other Asus monitors and if you need to file a warranty claim, GOOD LUCK !!! ... I've had to file a warranty claim with them before and boy was that a bad experience. I didn't have the issue of taking days for them to respond and send someone to pick up the monitor from me, and luckily you don't spend a penny in sending the monitor back. But their QC in the warranty department is abysmal at best. Twice I had my monitor return to me the same exact box after it was picked up, 2 days in a row. And I was sent 4 replacements, one worse than the other until the last one. 1 that had same issue as mine, another way that had worse issue than mine. 1 that the menu buttons and the direction toggle to navigate didn't work, I could only open the menu but could not change any settings and it was stuck in another language as well. And then the last one which had very minimal bright spot, but which point I was fed up and sold that monitor and just bought another one instead, as a downgrade as well, because that monitor was my first IPS panel, and after all the experience I just went back to TN, until recently. And I vowed to myself never to buy an Asus monitor again. OLED because of this risk of burn in is not good for me, although colours looks amazing specially blacks. My dad has a laptop with an OLED panel. I had a phone burn in on me as I needed to use for work for several hours of static content, so for now I'll stick with my IPS Mini Led panel
Had two Asus 170hz Asus monitors side by side. One in front of me took a knock the other day and it practically dead. Was thinking I may put this on my center monitor arm and still run my IPS monitor to the side for multitasking and productivity to avoid any worries about burn in. It's an expensive purchase though, but expected given the miniscule downsides. Great video.
Big deal? You won’t be able to hit max settings at 240hz 4k for a while. Once I go from a 4090 to a 7000 series then I’ll just get a new monitor. Not worried.

If you want a monitor with the exact same specs as this one and are still too worried about desktop burn-in on OLED monitors the Odyssey Neo G8 is on sale right now at $900 USD down from its $1500 MSRP if you are okay with a curved monitor and potential scan lines at 240hz.
As much I would love to say get that its samsung so they are better off not getting it at all thanks to awful QC. Mini LED is a nice middle ground though if found for the right price

@@rdiznfriends why is the HDR awful? I know its not as good as OLED as the dark scenes you get a ton more detail and highlights are much brighter with no blooming but isn't the HDR on it supposed to be decent with it.
@@lilpain1997 in synthetic benchmarks it will give good results but real world performance is much different. The local dimming algorithm prioritizes less blooming and as a result it is not bright at all. The contrast and peak brightness is incredibly unimpressive. And again the viewing angles are god awful
Hey great review and glad it turned out great! One little section you could add is that due to the availability of great uoscalers like dlss or xess the scalability of 4k Displays is now so much better and it can achieve the same or even better picture quality at 1440p/1080 ot lower than native displays of that resolution. This is while maintaining native 4k with DLAA etc. For less demanding titles! This is a big change from the pre deep learning based upscaler era where I would almost exclusivetrecommend 1440p displays as the sweet spot for variety gaming.
Thanks for a thorough review! I've been waiting for your take on this monitor. In Norway there's a $400 premium on the PG32UCDM over the Alienware AW3225QF so I'll wait for the other reviews before deciding to buy or opt out.
currently waiting for a 34inch 240 or 360hz QD OLED with at least some brightness increase ( more like 1500+ nits ) to upgrade from a AW3423DW. Still loving the thing everyday so no need to get anything new yet unless it gives a nice jump across all ranges. Its awesome seeing more QD OLEDs and WOLEDs hit the market along with budget Mini LEDs coming in. Maybe now with so many HDR monitors coming out and slowly getting in the more budget range we will see better/more games with HDR?
Mini-led still has the edge for me, the peace of mind and uncomplicated usage is a very big plus. Maybe next year TVs with macro-led will be common and by 2030 we start having them on PCs.
Why is it DOA? There isn't a single GPU on the market with full bandwidth UHBR-20 DP 2.1 ports outside of a few exotic workstation cards. So even if it had DP 2.1 ports you couldn't utilize them anyway, but if you somehow could there would be no discernible difference in image quality either, zero. Of course this monitor comes out 1 year after my purchase of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8. I only paid $850 for it though and this ASUS monitor is $1,400 if you can find stock or higher if price scalped so I'm not too bummed. Really does feel like the year of the OLED for monitors, got my eye on that PG27AQDP (1440p 480hz). Torn between that one and the mode switching version of this one, but I'm on the fence about moving up to 32 inch, 27 is just right for me.
What an AWESOME product. We're finally at the trinity of high-end builds. 1k for the monitor, 1k for the gpu, 1k for everything else. Bravo Asus, but still let's see what the other manufacturers have in store!
I am considering purchasing the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM monitor and have some specific questions regarding its features when used with a gaming console: 1. This is the monitor I wanted last year, I cant see my self downgrading from 42" now though. Also I doubt I can drive 240hz at native 4K. I definitely do want to get a 240hz OLED or high in the future though.
Been some complaints of eye strain on the new AW QD-OLED monitors, did you notice anything while playing on this one? Great review! Eagerly wating for the rest of them before i decide which on to go for :)
I'm holding out for the W-OLED variant of this display later in the year. Brighter and with a matte coating for anyone with a window in a room. My Acer Predator X27 is so so so bright - I've been spoiled. So I need to make sure that when I switch to OLED it's going to be the brightest money can buy.
WOLED is not brighter and colors are lacking bigtime compared to QD-OLED because the white subpixel is what doing all the brightness, drowning RGB subpixels in the process. Best TV of 2022, 2023 and 2024 all used QD-OLED.
@@Dr.WhetFarts I assure you, WOLED is brighter. It's literally on the charts in this video and even basic research will show you this . I don't care if it's not the best, I need the brightest. Don't be so weirdly defensive.
I've recently been re-testing some monitors with the latest firmware. Here's what I've found from the Asus PG32UCDM with the latest MCM103 firmware release:
✅Fixed: Brightness on AMD GPUs now reaches 1000 nits without EDID hacks and EOTF tracking is good at a 2%/10% window size
❌Not fixed: Poor EOTF tracking at high window sizes like 25% and 50% which leads to lower than expected brightness in high APL scenes (in the brightest mode)
I've run a few real world tests and for reference brightness in high APL content (eg the sky in sunny scenes) can be about 25% higher on the WOLED-based LG 32GS95UE than the QD-OLED PG32UCDM.

Do you think the map from call of duty would burn into screen?

@@ChinchillaDaveNo I don't think it would. I Play Wow sometimes 8 hours a day on my 42" LG oled and after one year of absolute abuse, I have ZERO burn in.
Of course, it may still come, sure. But most people don't even have real world use and are telling you they know. OLED's have come a long way. Burn in and blurry text? Don't use any apps that aren't games? What the fuck.
How are these monitors always sold out before I'm even aware that they were released
Just hang in there and don’t buy from the scalpers. As more monitors from other brands drop, they’ll slowly craw back to their hole in the wall.
SCALPERS buy them and hold them HOSTAGE to the rest of the community . Pretty much demanding people to pay more than what the product is worth

Finally! Been waiting for this. Already bought my monitor, though. Got the Dell AW3225QF on launch date since I only want a curved panel.

How has it treated you?
@@TheRealDloI own the aw3225qf and it’s fantastic, I feel at 32in the 1700r curve is just right, a flat panel at this size is not for me. The curve allows me to sit closer and feel more immersed. It’s basically just monitor exactly with a bit better calibration and a curved panel.

With the text issue finally being addressed... they are now, at least, considerable. it's going to be a painful wait for the WOLED releases to see how they stack up... i've waited so long, this time difference i'll have to wait will be the most painful. lol
What do you kid think "2k" means?
I purchased the LG 48” OLED monitor last year but found it was too large for desk gaming and the auto dim feature drove me nuts.

Thanks for your efforts in this product sector!
this is *3rd Gen QD-OLED not 2nd. the 3rd Gen's have the ink jet process allowing the 140 PPI. there was no motherglass for this size for 2nd Gen

@justsaying993 the irony. However the only defense you could have. Is him referring to the pixel layout changing on 2nd gen. To the people saying, "this is the endgame monitor," I point to Tim's closing thoughts. 😆
We're not there yet, but things are very good.
Endgame is literally the dumbest word to use for any kind of tech. There is no endgame. A year from whenever you buy an "endgame" device, it will be outclassed by a better piece of tech. That will never end. People love using that term even though it's absolutely meaningless.
And also these so called ''endgame monitors'' won't exist for another 5 to 10 years minimum hahah

My OLED tv from LG has now started to show logo burn-in after just over three years, so I would still worry even with a 3 year warranty.

Suggestion, when looking at VRR, could you investigate how wide the sync window is? 60-240? 48-240? great review as always Tim.

Hey great review and glad it turned out great! Thanks for a thorough review! I've been waiting for your take on this monitor. In Norway there's a $400 premium on the PG32UCDM over the Alienware AW3225QF so I'll wait for the other reviews before deciding to buy or opt out.
Don't forget to LIKE the video
Actually glad of the reminder, too easy to forget to do it
currently waiting for a 34inch 240 or 360hz QD OLED with at least some brightness increase ( more like 1500+ nits ) to upgrade from a AW3423DW.
I stopped watching at $1300,
Mini-led still has the edge for me, the peace of mind and uncomplicated usage is a very big plus. Maybe next year TVs with macro-led will be common and by 2030 we start having them on PCs.
DP 1.4....DOA.
Definitely not DOA, considering there is no dp 2.1 monitors out right now, HP and Gigabyte dropping the ball by releasing so late.
I guess then every monitor on the market must also be "DOA" too then?
@@Sean-fj9pnthe comparables have dp2.1. new GPUs coming Jan 25. Amd 7900 series has dp2.1
changing monitors is a faff. I want to buy one that lasts 5 years+. Not including dp2.1 makes this a tough purchase. I could build a new rig in say 3 years and dp2.1 might be important then.
Of course this monitor comes out 1 year after my purchase of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8. I only paid $850 for it though and this ASUS monitor is $1,400 if you can find stock or higher if price scalped so I'm not too bummed. OLED always scares me with the burn in chances especially when I use a monitor 12+ hours a day, Just waiting on the day when burn in is impossible on OLED.
Really does feel like the year of the OLED for monitors, got my eye on that PG27AQDP (1440p 480hz). Torn between that one and the mode switching version of this one, but I'm on the fence about moving up to 32 inch, 27 is just right for me.
You still need a desk that has room for a 32 inch too
What an AWESOME product. We're finally at the trinity of high-end builds. 1k for the monitor, 1k for the gpu, 1k for everything else. Bravo Asus, but still let's see what the other manufacturers have in store!
Cant wait to experience dying light 1 sunsets in 4k 240hz !!!
Dang this looks mighty nice.
I am considering purchasing the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM monitor and have some specific questions regarding its features when used with a gaming console:
1. Does the feature that allows changing the monitor's aspect ratio to simulate a 27" display function when connected to a console?
2. Are there any limitations or compromises on features such as FreeSync or G-Sync when the aspect ratio is adjusted to 27"? I will use to play apex legends on console 27” and work at 32”.
Your detailed response will help me greatly in making an informed purchase decision.
Thank you!
Tysm, next Alienware review please ☺️
Damn, if I didn't have a C2 already I would buy this asap. Really excited to see the price go down and HDR performance go up for this form factor
I freaking love this. Can't wait for these panels to hit the market. I am definitely going for one of these 32" QD-OLEDs.
Cyberpunk is one of the few games providing HDR metadata. I think it was even in the 500 Nit range. Could be the trigger.
