I downloaded these at 6 AM on Saturday mornings off NPR on my single cassette player. Those tapes were treated like gold. I had those tapes for almost 20 years.
I still have mine too! Listened each week and recorded the episodes - including the different into/outro narration and the missing dialogue that somehow was edited out when officially released in the 90s. Glad to know someone else was as nerdy about this as me! Fans unfamiliar with these radio shows are missing out big time.
This is awesome! I first discovered Star Wars as a kid in Nigeria in the 2000s but I never got the books or EU stuff until I got older. Listening to these radio drama versions is so fun🤩 Currently listening while I work at Wendys.
The guy who plays Han Solo (Perry something I think) is absolutely excellent. These three radio programmes are excellent although I think Jedi lacks a little something compared to the first two. Thanks for uploading this. Cheers.
I love the heart-warming stories and memories everyone is posting pertinent to the radio drama series. I’m a millennial, born in 91’ and my dad introduced myself and my siblings to the Star Wars universe when we were young kids. I grew up watching the original trilogy over and over, on VHS tapes. Later on in the early 2000’s dad got us the radio drama on cassette tape for our Sony radio/cassette player in our room. We had A New Hope and Return of the Jedi but never got a hold of Empire radio drama. I’m filling in the last piece of my childhood right now. After listing to these damn near every night, dad would turn on Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell, or at least the re-runs of Art Bell. I forget when George Snory took over 😂. Those were the days man! As a kid, obviously I wasn’t paying much attention geo-politically as I am now, but looking back the 90’s and early 2000s (minus The War in Terror…) just seemed so stable compared to now. Probably just rose-colored glasses on my part, but hey, Original Trilogy, Art Bell, Pokémon… That’s all a kid needed back then. Then smart phones and social media ruined reality permanently 🤮
I was introduced to Star Wars properly in 4th grade. My teacher put a novel of The Empire Strikes Back in front of me, as I finished my work earlier than everyone else. I started reading, and was interested. I found this on cassette tape at a local video store, and rented it. This sounds just like I remember.
This is probably where the "No Luke, I am your father" confusion originated. In the film and story records released in the 80s, it's just "No, I am your father."
@@jeremiah6462 Except the actual line in the film is “No, I am your father.” I always figured the change to “Luke, I am your father” was a slow adaption to convey that it was indeed a reference to _Star Wars_ instead of any other story where the father’s identity was kept secret (ie. The Preacher in _Children of Dune)._

Instead of Luke doing exposition, that was done well. Also, kudos to whoever did Vader. It's like Being Rhames mixed with Tim Curry👏👏

This is great ! I did something like this about 15 years ago with the tape cassette version of the radio drama and a vhs camcorder pointed at various comics and artwork . I appreciate the time it takes to make something like this . I got as far as the start of the battle of hoth but never finished my project . Would love to see you do a redux of these . Small bit of constructive criticism ...some of the images on here are on screen for too long , would love to see more cuts inserted for when each character speaks . There is no shortage of artwork available online to do this . I love how you integrated the Topps trading cards into this . Would also love to see all of Ralph McQuarrie's production paintings used in this . A couple of years back , artist Chris Sprouse did a series of covers across the marvel comics line that depicted various scenes from The Empire Strikes Back that would work very well here too .
Would be cool but the problem is that the audiobook is still being sold on stores like Audible. It would definitely get taken down. All the audiodramas I've uploaded are not sold anywhere officially.
I love how in these radio dramas, Luke's hatred of Vader is amplified. it makes sense, this is the man he thinks killed his father and struck down Obi-Wan. Plus it makes the twist at the end all the more impactful
Yoda sounds like he's MAJORLY baked beyond belief. I mean baked to the point where he starts pitch shifting down, and occasionally does a weird Jamaican accent that he tries to hide.
This is such a great radio drama of The Empire Strikes Back. I love all the live-action Star Wars films but there should be a new animated version of The Empire Strikes Back made in the Clone Wars 2003 Micro Series Animation Style with the dialogue of the radio drama using the soundtrack by John Williams playing in the film.
I am wondering if there's a book or comic that takes place between a New Hope and ESB. I want to know what actually started Vader's obssession with Luke, etc.
I think what started Vader's obsession with Luke began during the Death Star trench run. As Vader was pursuing Luke down the trench in his TIE Advanced x1, he felt the Force coming from Luke's X-Wing and decided he had to determine where it came from. There was also a novel set between SW and ESB called 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye', which further explores the connection between them.
It's Brock Peters, who played the role in the original SW radio drama and also played Tom Robinson in 'To Kill a Mockingbird' opposite Gregory Peck. He was also Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek IV and VI.
