With the amount of times I've listened to these, I've gotten so used to Ann Sachs and Perry Kings voices and renditions of these characters, that to me, they are just as much Han and Leia as Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are, in their own right.

And I'm just at the part where they are fleeing Hoth. The actor who played Han Solo had really grown into the part by this time, and he and Leia were really developing chemistry. And that's to say nothing of the amazing job Nigel did on editing these to give us multiple hours of listening enjoyment!

With all the advanced AI technology and 3D CG tech we have now, it's not exactly out of the realms of possibility. They could rejig filmed scenes, like deleted scenes and visualise the radio drama scenes.
I have even read that audio AI has advanced to the point that they could mimic the voices of any actor to suit the dialogue of the expanded script. So it would sound as though Harrison Ford actually did record the dialogue.

@@bluedragon4I believe Perry was one of the people who originally auditioned for Han for the movie. Getting to play the role via Radio Drama is still a big deal and it's a paying gig. Plus, Star Wars was huge at that time and so there was plenty of incentive to do it.

I kinda think he does a better job than Ford tbh. He adds a lot of charm to the character and his voice manages to balance a kind of weaselly quality, with those moments of genuine bravery and selflessness. Not to mention, the dude was an adonis to look at, he honestly might have made a better Han on screen too.

Wow, thank you for this. As a Gen-2 (90's) fan, the movies, novels, and a comic or two were the only things I knew existed. Never would I have thought that there was a whole radio drama. But even then, it wasn't like you could just track this entire thing down on cassettes or CD's. So it's a real treat to listen to this now, in its entirety, ad-free. Anyway, it's an amazing to experience the events of the movie through completely different scopes. The writing, the music, the acting; pure immersure. It's awesome to see that they got as many reprising actor to lend their voices as possible, especially Mark Hamill, given his affinity for voice acting. I must say though... Vader was comical. He was big shoes to fill, but the writing and the voice made him seem like a parody. But beyond that, I really felt like I was right there when I closed my eyes.
Again, thank you. This should be known to the wider fan-base.

Good work, mate. I was 9 when the first film hit theaters. Back then it took a couple of months after its U.S. release for a movie to reach us. But the novelization, Starlog magazine articles and other promotional stuff were already at my disposal, allowing me to "watch" Star Wars as I imagined it in my head with mounting anticipation. I finally got to watch the real deal and it blew my hair back. So much so I stayed through the credit scroll, immersing in the music and starry backdrop until the houselights went up. A bunch of other kids had done the same. We quickly bonded and sneaked into into the theater for repeat viewings so often that the owner dubbed us the "Star Wars" gang, a title we happily adopted for ourselves. Had the local stations aired this radio series my ear would have been glued to the speaker, no question. Ah, the magic years. 😄
