Right! The same was used in the Empire Strikes Back when Vader tells him to search his feelings about him being his father, Luke takes a much longer pause, to actually search his feelings as he comes to the realization. It’s so much more powerful!

I'm glad I found this on you tube. I purchased all three radio dramas but somehow this one was erased from my library. I guess it must be a rights thing. Thankfully I also bought the physical CD set of all three but who listens to CD's any more? I hope against hope that one day they will dramatize the prequels as well.
Hats off to Ed Asner, who absolutely nails Jabba and appears to be relishing in it. Also, the actress voicing mon mothma may sound familiar. That’s Natalia Nogiluch AKA admiral necheyev from TNG
Thank you for all those audiodramas. It is so, so good. I was amazed. These audios expanded the history in a way that i think, sometimes, make it better than the movies. Ty and take care!
It’s both bizarre and moving, that Lando is the only character to offer condolences after Anakin’s death. Lando has mentioned in EU material that his father and him aren’t close, implying he’s still alive. It shows the despite Vader jeopardizing Lando, his city, and his friends, Lando understands that people with horrible dads likely have at least one good memory that they hold on to, and idealize them as. Lando, being the eldest of the four leads, also understanding he himself made some awful choices and hurt many people, and regardless of how much he’s changed, there will be people who refuse to look past his old life, so he somewhat empathizes with Anakin Skywalker.
Christ, take me now as I've discovered the best channel on UA-cam. I've been absolutely floored by the quality of every video 👌. Thank you for sharing and bringing happiness to so many folks, especially for those on long commutes, Ravi Peiris M.D.
I wish they would have included Luke building his own light saber in the movie. This was a very important part connected to his final face off with his father.
There is a deleted scene of it from the film, Im not sure why it wasn't included, especially considering vader makes note of how Luke built his own lightsaber. Then again, I can understand them wanting to have Luke's new green saber be a surprise reveal.
Of course, that and this radio drama kinda contradict what happened in the Shadows of the Empire novel with that scene in mind. Edit: ...On second thought, I think it doesn't contradict it, if you think of it as a flashback.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I believe if Leeland Chee was pressed he'd say these radio dramas sit within their own canon, seperated from the EU. ANH for instance has some contradictory things with the EU in regard to all the early leia scenes, but it was made before the EU got started proper. This one actually has the opportunity to tie in EU content, and it does with its breif cameo of mara jade. It would have been made at the same time as Shadows, so there could have simply been a small disconnect between this and Shadows, but like you said it coild be seen as a flashback, especially since he mentions his books thag were also mentioned in Shadows and later expanded upon in The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
@@grannytoes7221 Not separate, just a lower tiet than the film, and if you treat it as a flashback it meshes fine with SotE. Heck, this even mentions Lando damaging the Falconnat coruscant. In SotE.
Perry King audition to be Han in New Hope, so it's neat he plays the radio version of him. LoL at Ed Begley Jr being Bobba, and Brock Peters being Vader cracks me up since he's from Star Trek 4 and 6.
@@RA-VEN8 Wonder why he didn't do this one, too (ditto Williams as Lando). : / I mean, Daniels, Peters, Sachs, Behrens, Lithgow, and Hecht all reprised their roles...
Thank you for putting these together. (Original and extended universe) Star Wars has been my happy place since I was a little kid and I get so much joy out of listening to the radio plays. I think Brian Daley improved the characters in some places with the little additions (the extended interaction between Luke and Anakin at the end, Leia and Han showing they care about C3PO after the rescue). Great work all around
Wow, the new guy they got for Luke isn't half bad! I legit thought it was Hamill at the beginning until I double checked the cast on a hunch he might not have participated in this one. On an hunch, mind you, not because of the voice. He completely fooled me! (Now I hear the difference because I now know it's not him, and I won't lie I'm disappointed :(. But like I said, he's not half bad! I can get used to him pretty quick :) )
The actor playing Palpatine might different from Ian McDiarmid, but man is he just having a blast 😂 Total psychotic and over the top, I can totally see him being the Senate
Personally, I thought the Emperor scenes in the radio version were misdirected in that respect. Palpatine would never have called Vader (or Luke) 'slave' to their faces. Servant, yes but never slave. He always showed a modicum of respect to Vader, even while manipulating him. I'm not sure whether the term 'slave' was used in this version (made in 1996) to better tie-in with the prequels, which were in pre-production.
@@Ashworth6 At this point of the battle Palpatine wanted the strongest servant to win. That's why he said it to get one angry and use the dark side to its biggest potential.
I love the scene where they escape from Tatooine. The Empire does not look Stupid. They know that Luke is going to rescue Han from Jaba so they have Star Destroyers in Orbit waiting for his escape. R2 play a important role. He hack Jaba Computer and put the Death Warrants in Jaba Computer. And When every one from Jaba Palace tries to Take, Luke , Leia and Han are able to sneak out.
Having listened to Empire radio drama I wonder why Hamill didn't voice act in this one also. Thank you for posting all of these. I have listened them back to back and will probably listen to them multiple times. It is like watching the movies in my head.
There's a fair amount of speculation about why Mark Hamill didn't return for ROTJ. Some think it was due to the contract disputes that delayed ROTJ for so long, like what Premium Vibes mentioned. This aired in '96 after all, over a decade since Empire's radio drama. Others think that he just had too many conflicts and chose to resign from this project. Right around this time he was in both Wing Commander and Batman the Animated Series, both highly popular works. But unless Hamill himself says something, which he probably won't since this is 2 decades old now, we may never know.
Sadly, I think these were made long after the New Hope and Empire Strike's Back radio dramas, so Mark Hamill and Billy D Williams were either not willing or not able to reprise their roles.
@@Tiresias55 It's interesting that one of the most iconic posters for the Radio Drama was C3PO in front of a mic, cuz Anthony Daniels was the only actor from the original films who was also in all three of the radio dramas.
Great upload! I always look at the radio edits as filling in the blanks we miss with the movies, to me they are canonical, if you haven't already done so, please go and check out episode 4 and 5, ANH has been fleshed out so much, all the deleted scenes for the movie all make it to the radio drama!
In the Empire broadcast, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams actually participated in reading their parts. Why did only Anthony remain for the Jedi broadcast? Was pretty disappointed by that, it was jarring to hear different actors from one episode to the next. Still good, and listened to the whole thing though.
This was the only radio drama I hadn't heard. I enjoyed it. I will always love the middle trilogy out of all the movies. I really wish Lucas hadn't sold the franchise to Disney, but that is just me. I might mention that I've been a fan of Disney since I was a little girl, but Star Wars? I wish Lucas had never let them buy it.
Absolutely one of my favourite things to listen to! If I had a complaint, if any, would be Lando's voice It just sounds a little weird, but it also has it's own charm!
I can understand why you say that. In the early days I very much felt the same way. Frank Oz's performance was as important as Mark Hamill's in making Yoda such a convincing character. John Lithgo's performance is jarring by comparison. Time has softened this for me. I have learned to separate the two and in doing so, have developed an appreciation (all be it to a lesser degree) for what this performance brings to this adaptation of the saga.
I am sorry to say l am 43 and never watched the movies but l plan to watch them soon l just never thought l would like them but if they are anything like these recordings l see why people love them
Excellent stuff. It's a shame Mark Hamill didn't do this one. But Perry King does a great job as Han Solo in all 3 of the radio dramas. The Force is strong with Nigel L. Much appreciated.
Just thought of an interesting notion. It was Anakin's refusal to part with personal attachments that caused him to become Darth Vader. Namely refusing to accept padmés fate. It was the same kind of love that saved him, what inevitably resurfaced in him as the type of selfless Love a parent feels for a child.

Am not a fan of Star Wars , but damn is 2:16:38 powerful and full of heart.
My Son !!!!
And ends with
" Darth Vader's master , but not Anikin Skywalker "
You're a fan don't lie 🤥😁
Blind Hans telephone acting with Chewbacca to explain to us at home what happed to Boba Fett during the fight on the barge is hilarious.
It's the problem of the audio medium. Characters have to describe what's going on around them.
@@AlexSeverinskiNot really a problem
'Don't tell me the odds.. Just kiss me.......' would have been an iconic last line to the movie......
I remember as a child I had a cassette tape with a read along book for and abridged version of return of the Jedi. They actually lifted some audio from this drama. I think that’s pretty cool, Adult fans can get a more in-depth version of the story and kids can get a simpler version. It’s like comparing a children’s book to a long chapter book with no illustrations.
THIS IS SO GOOD!
Binged these in a day, awesome
I'm glad I found this on you tube. I purchased all three radio dramas but somehow this one was erased from my library. I guess it must be a rights thing. Thankfully I also bought the physical CD set of all three but who listens to CD's any more? I hope against hope that one day they will dramatize the prequels as well.
SImply amazing work Nige l! A million thanks for this! I go to sleep to ur masterpiece sir! Thanks again!
The exchange between Vader and The Emperor is amazing
And yet again thanks for uploading these
Thank you for taking the time to blend these dramas, it was beautifully done
Amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of these!
Hats off to Ed Asner, who absolutely nails Jabba and appears to be relishing in it.
Also, the actress voicing mon mothma may sound familiar. That’s Natalia Nogiluch AKA admiral necheyev from TNG
Nechayev was excellently written and played. You really got to hate her
Wait, he voiced the Hutt in this radio drama?!
Gotta love these radio dramas for having some collaboration with Star Trek actors.
Thank you for all those audiodramas. It is so, so good. I was amazed. These audios expanded the history in a way that i think, sometimes, make it better than the movies. Ty and take care!
This was brilliant. Thank you for your efforts with this.
It’s both bizarre and moving, that Lando is the only character to offer condolences after Anakin’s death.
Lando has mentioned in EU material that his father and him aren’t close, implying he’s still alive.
It shows the despite Vader jeopardizing Lando, his city, and his friends,
Lando understands that people with horrible dads likely have at least one good memory that they hold on to, and idealize them as.
Lando, being the eldest of the four leads, also understanding he himself made some awful choices and hurt many people, and regardless of how much he’s changed, there will be people who refuse to look past his old life, so he somewhat empathizes with Anakin Skywalker.
Great work here Nigel -have loved listening to these extended cuts!
10/10 I can't believe I found this gem. Thanks for the upload I'll make sure to listen to Empire Strike Back and New Hope.
I try to listen to them once a year or so and love the way you did this. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
Thanks for all your efforts in putting these together...much appreciated.
Christ, take me now as I've discovered the best channel on UA-cam. I've been absolutely floored by the quality of every video 👌. Thank you for sharing and bringing happiness to so many folks, especially for those on long commutes,
Ravi Peiris M.D.
And Deep Space 9. Also I liked how the 1st 2 programs had Mark Hamill.
@@RA-VEN8 Wonder why he didn't do this one, too (ditto Williams as Lando). : / I mean, Daniels, Peters, Sachs, Behrens, Lithgow, and Hecht all reprised their roles...
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoy It sounds more fun in your headphones knowing Luke is Mark Hamill.
51:30 Wow, I never thought of it that way.
Really appreciate all your work to brings these to fullest fidelity :)
17:31 Fun fact, Arica is actually an alias used by Mara Jade aka Luke Skywalker’s future wife
The actor playing Palpatine might different from Ian McDiarmid, but man is he just having a blast 😂 Total psychotic and over the top, I can totally see him being the Senate
"He is my slave, not your father"
Sheev pressed the slave button. He shouldn't have did that.
A fellow tfs fun i see
Personally, I thought the Emperor scenes in the radio version were misdirected in that respect.
This was long before TPM so Analkin wasnt established as having been a slave child
I read this as soon as i heard it
Thank you for posting these my friend
Thanks for the upload. It’s harder and harder to find. May God bless you with much favor.
Simo Portti this was released in 1997 I believe. Nearly 15 years after the last radio drama.
I almost couldn't tell.
Bless you for this--rather, may the Force be with you, Nigel.
Love these, hearing the audio and using imagination play out in your mind
"Your mother is a set of match luggage!"
-Han Solo, 26:45
A Spaceballs reference lol
I thought similar.
Thank you.
Very happy to hear Anthony Daniel's!
Absolutely one of my favourite things to listen to!
If I had a complaint, if any, would be Lando's voice
It just sounds a little weird, but it also has it's own charm!
Mine would be John Lithgow as Yoda otherwise these were near perfect.
"I'm gonna rip your helmet off with your head in it"... isn't that what happened to Boba's dad too!
What i thought too. Funny little coincidence i guess, lol
I'm so happy to have found these!
I love this
Though the guy who did Yoda here made me wince a bit but Yoda is my favorite character
I am sorry to say l am 43 and never watched the movies but l plan to watch them soon l just never thought l would like them but if they are anything like these recordings l see why people love them
This has a lot of extra sences not all of these are in the movie.
I heard the first 2 radio dramas before seeing the movies. Ruined the movies for me... watch RETURN of the JEDI before hearing this and it helped...
Excellent stuff.
It's a shame Mark Hamill didn't do this one. But Perry King does a great job as Han Solo in all 3 of the radio dramas.
The Force is strong with Nigel L.
Much appreciated.
All three of these Star Wars radio dramas were excellent, sorry they ended ⭐️💫🪐🚀
I hear Count Dooku's voice when Vader speaks but other than that this was great! Thanks
13 years passed between the airing of the ESB and ROJ radio dramas?
Just thought of an interesting notion. It was Anakin's refusal to part with personal attachments that caused him to become Darth Vader. Namely refusing to accept padmés fate. It was the same kind of love that saved him, what inevitably resurfaced in him as the type of selfless Love a parent feels for a child.
As it was that in which made him the chosen one whom brought balance to the force.
I laugh at every title C3PO calls Jabba! 😂
I love these radio dramas since I'm in the car a lot these are perfect. If I was bummed about anything is the fact Mark Hamill wasn't in this one
did vader just yell "MMMYYYY SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!"
Koony yes
Yes he did
He sure did.
Koony All have sinned and so all are worthy of death and deserve hell, for God’s standard is perfection and none of us could meet it by doing good deeds.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
But God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die in our place as a substitutionary atonement for our sins. He is the only way to Heaven that God has provided. If you believe in Him, then you will be saved.
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Koony epic gives me the chills
Listening to these radioshow makes me want to watch the old movies again
