This radio drama adds a lot more life to the story. It really fleshes out their personalities more. It's crazy to see a movie 1000s of times during your life and think you know the characters as best as you can, and then this comes along. Thank you for posting.
I agree. There’s much more time to do this in this format between a movie and a book. Having seen the movie the images are planted, and the sound effects are really supportive. But the movie flashes so fast. Here, there’s time to sit back and enjoy the story and characters and ponder everything.
For me the visuals are totally unnecessary. I still remember listening to the radio programs in the 1980s and being whisked away to another galaxy via my imagination. Loved the extra plot elements and sounds. This video is essentially just a movie; I might as well watch the 1977 film instead.
I enjoy watching UA-camrs talk about Star Wars and I've tried getting into the franchise but never got around to it. This video showed up in my feed and I'm glad I listened to it. I remember i got this as a box set at the preimire of Episode 3 when i was 13. I couldnt help but listen to it over and over again. LOVED IT THEN LOVE IT NOW.
It's hard to believe the power of this simple story. Star Wars has given me hope since I first heard the swell of that score in the theater. I was a huge fan of C3PO!
NICE WORK!!! I listened to the very first broadcasts in 1979 as a child, hadn't even seen the movie yet - so this is forever canon to me. Really appreciate all the work you've done with the visuals - fantastic! Thanks for sharing this with us!
YES!!! Great job! In my head canon I use the character that was supposed to be Jabba as Heater because of this audio drama. Lucas should have edited the Special Edition of ANH to do the same so the reveal off Jabba would still have been in RotJ. Fantastic!!! That Leia torture scene is still cringe, lol....
02:52 "...the great LUKE SKYWALKER, HERO of the UNIVERSE!" For my generation, he was. He absolutely was. I have very hazy memories of this playing on the radio, but for years, I wasn't sure if it was real. This is amazing to listen to!
I remember this on BBC radio! I remember the intro to each episode was announced ' Star Wars, an adaptation for radio in thirteen parts, based on characters and situations created by George Lucas'. They would then introduce the title of the episode and the only one I recall is 'Jedi that was; Jedi to be'. It takes me back 🤗
Thank you MrPoke! You've done an absolutely fantastic job! I'm amazed at the effort you put into selecting and assembling each individual image (even i'm not a fan of the childish ones). It must have been a real pain in the neck, taking up countless hours of your time! I greatly appreciate the refreshing and exhilarating experience of rediscovering Star Wars, as if it were the "first time - again"!
I can't believe this was already made. but now notified for the second, but this was awesome to watch and loved James Earl Jones's voice in this audio story. so.. it was Artoo who messed with the red Droid.I believe it was influenced by Anakin in the past even if the droid's memories were wiped.
Fantastic Work you did, illustrating the radioplay with the comics! Here in germany, they produced audioplays of Timothy Zahns Thrawn-Trilogy. They used sound fx and John Williams music, and, as the icing on the cake, all surviving voices of the cast from the german dub from the original trilogy (who certainly sounded some decades older :-), especially Wolfgang Pampel, Harrison Fords standard dubbing voice), the german voice of Hugh Jackman for Thrawn, Michael Caines standard voice for C'Baoth and the german voice of Colonel Tigh from New BSG for Captain Pellaeon. I think, there is a comic version out for "Heir to the empire" and the further two novels. Would be interesting to combine these like you did with the radioplays.
Just found the original script printed in Star Wars Galaxy magazine 2 from winter 95. A bit different but it’s great to follow along and read the interview with the author.
This is the only way a reboot can ever be accepted by SW fans! Imagine if the radio dramas were all remade with the same craftsmanship that Denis Villeneuve made Dune… MTFBWY

Thank you so much, I find it boring sometimes when the Star Wars radio drama has no picture. May the Force be with you by me as my favourite character from Star Wars, Luke Skywalker.
