ended up buying the minilo after seeing this video (i'd been searching for a quieter keyboard for work for a bit) and just got it today. i have absolutely zero regrets, thank you!!
I have the keychron k4 v2, and I needed a silent keyboard for my videos. I did a lot of research into what components in a keyboard made the noise and I was surprised. Aside from clicky tactile switches, I was surprised to see that even linear switches made a LOT of noise. So I focused my attention on finding silent switches, there were a couple of contenders. Durock/alpaca, kalih box switches and one other I don't recall but durock dolphins ended up winning. I got 110 of them for $75 on Amazon and lubed them. They come pre lubed but are scratchy and lubing helped reduce this. My only complaint about them is, literally the only thing that makes them silent is a small silicone O ring thay is on the rails of the internal switch. So I thought, well I could just order those for my gateron reds, right? WRONG. I searched for hours and couldn't find anything about this small silicone gasket thingy for the rails and found nothing. I then attempted to swap them to my gateron reds and noticed that the durock dolphin switch rails had a small lip and my gateron reds didn't. So I installed them and moved on with my life. Only to fimd out I didn't like the 65 gram springs as my gateron reds were 40 gram. So I ordered 110 35 gram springs and I'm much happier but that's personal taste. I also foam modded my keychron k4 v2 case and it is basically silent. Oh and I added some foam to my space bar as it's hollow cavity echoed a lot! But now I'm super excited and pleased with my keychron k4 v2, I have to basically put my ear up to the keyboard to even hear the noise even when typing vigorously. My mic no longer picks it up and I've ordered kalih mute switches for my mouse and I'm praying they fit 😅. I'm using an evga x15 and I really like it but it's so loud compared to my keyboard now 😂
as much as I hate to recommend anything mass market, if your looking for a dead quiet mouse, the logitech mx master s is about as quiet as you can find.

I have been having the office keyboard which is a basic boring keyboard and I have been using it for quite a while and I think its time for an upgrade. I'm definitely going to order this keyboard.
I remember when buying a keyboard was easy. The cheapest keyboard that made the most noise, had the most buttons and the brightest LEDs. The good old days 😢.
Haha definitely looks like you could use some pry tools - or at least anything other than super sharp metal tweezers. 😂 But thanks as always for going the extra length to see inside!
Well obviously the bottom comes off before the top rim because they would have had to been able to screw that on before putting it all together . . . . . .
I've tried both of them this week at my local keyboard store, and it was so amazing, makes me want to buy them asap. Wish my wallet didn't have problems with that
Luckly they sell the switches on their own by groups of 35 at a good price so no need to buy the keyboard if you want just the switches. They also sell other keyboards with the same switches.
I bought the Logi Craft keyboard just because its quiet and still has good feel to it. I wish there were more quiet keyboards to choose from, this video is perfect for me. :)
I bought this keyboard and really like it. I change the keycaps to shine through for the RGB. Had one issue where I didn't know how to change the lighting type. The manual explained how to speed it up, make it darker or lighter and how to change the color. But I just wanted static white and couldn't get it. I did find out how to do it eventually but it was not in their manual from the website. How to change the lighting effect type was only shown on their RGB demonstration UA-cam video. Anyways the way to do it is holding fn and then pressing f5 or f6 ...then to change the color which is explained in the manual, is holding fn and pressing - or = to turn the lighting off or on is holding fn and pressing X ...everything else is actually in the manual
These switches look completely identical to Kailh Deep Sea Pro silent switches - same stem shape, same dampening, same RGB light diffusion plastic bits. The only difference just looks like the color of the chassis and stem
...you might have saved me. I got a lovely RisoPhy keyboard, my first mechanical and my family have complained its too loud so doing the review for a quiet one might seriously have saved my ass
I'm in need of a "silent" keyboard, as quiet as possible. How does this compare to an unmodified Epomaker RT100? Possible to for you to do a video on the top 3 or 5 library silent keyboards?

Im not into this hobby but i think its also the way everything is not meant to be taken apart. If theres more space, they hit each other and make noises, if its tight enough without any spacing=each parts will not hit each other=no noise. I wonder if you losen everything itll start to have sounds
I could not recommend haimu heartbeats and whisper silents enough, basically no mushy feel and silent/semi silent, (no padding for upstroke but you dont hear it at all)😊

Just a quick question if I may. Have you tried opening it? I feel that Hipyo destroyed his KB, but shouldn't have. (I'm looking to get a KB to throw in the bag when I got to the office, this would be great: quiet and light :))
it seems that taking it apart and adding the tape has some how made it not silent as the last audio you can hear the keys compared to the 2nd last audio
A fake typing test at the start of the video (you muted the mic) so it draws in people to see how the keyboard performs. Then, 11 minutes of yapping only to find out at the end that the keyboard is not silent, as you showed at the start. Nice video mate. Very helpful.
Suggestion: How it's made videos. Take apart something like a switch and explain what pieces give it certain properties I have a Content Linear Brown, which I'm assuming is a knock off of a Gateron Linear Brown. I made the mistake of assuming linear meant silent. Now I have a silent in hand. My guess was the noise came from the switch bottoming out and/or the keycap hitting the switch, but the silent one doesn't appear to be of a different construction.
I need 87 keys version of this. Less than that feels too cramped for me. I don't mind removing the numpad from the right, mainly because its 40-years-old layout does not help me in any way, but other than that, I need regular space between keys to feel comfortable.
I am typing this comment with the Minilo 75, and God it's like BUTTER compared to my old K2 with Gateron Browns. Bought this after watching this video, highly recommend, considerably fast shipping to the UK as well! I don't even know how to finish this comment, I just want to keep typing...
Great sounding keyboard, might need one for streaming! As for the ice cream, I’m one of the lactose free gang so I always tend towards lactaid’s salted caramel ice cream. nooooooooooo! I have been shopping for *years* for a keyboard this quiet! it's so close to being perfect, but there's no numpad, home, or end key! (also, no all black color....). This makes me want to cry!
I'm lactose intolerant, but every couple of years I throw caution to the wind and get myself some Pecan Praline Icecream 😋 Also, I think the people in my office would love me to have that silent keyboard. Also, they won't spend the money on it. I think the fact that the keyboard is all plastic and rubber/silicon is integral to it's silence. My RK84 has an aluminum plate and it is most certainly the source of most of my keyboard's noise.
if this was moddable, black, with better pbt keycaps, 5 socket and with south facing switches this would be awesome. there is almost no keyboards on the market that are low profile without using low profile switches without a really high typing angle that you cant adjust.
I like my keyboard noisy, but in a workplace where I'm on zoom calls and my clackity clacking is interrupting everyone, a silent keyboard is what I want.
Sooo.. I bought this keyboard and it is NOT silent. I would describe it as SOFT THOCK. Are you into soft thock? The 80s boating music of keyboards. The reason I wanted a 'silent' keyboard is because I have ADHD, and especially when I'm trying to concentrate, sounds around me become acutely loud.. eating noises, clocks.. keyboard clicks. So to keep me on task and not grinding my teeth, I ponied up for this puppy. Am I disappointed it's not silent? Yeah. However the typing experience is very nice. It's pillowy and gentle, like a new born baby duck. If I was the office manager, I would be putting in a bulk order. It's not quite perfect for me personally, but would dramatically cut down the keyboard chatter in an office environment. Sound wise, it's probably louder than membrane keyboards like dime a dozen portable Logitech boards like the MX keys mini or even K380.. which sounds like a diss, BUT the sound, feel and angle of the Minilo is so much more pleasant. The point I'd like to make here, is that as a writer on the go, this is a stay at home keyboard as it has a lot more heft than those Logi boards. If sound is THE issue for you, you won't benefit from getting this and trying to take it on the road - you may as well get a cheaper option. However when you return home or to the office and want to feel gently held when you get in, this is very nice. @Hipyo, I'm coining 'soft thock' right now, let's colab on a t-shirt. Additional: the RGB is a bit much for me, I'd prefer the white back light, but it doesn't come with the 'Kailh Prestige Silent' switches. I think this board could be marketed to the 'low stimulation' market, but being able to choose 'white' rather than óff' would be nice. Now to crank this soft thock and have a little emotional moment. ~Jez
Yeah I got the exact switches and everything. My hastly put together keyboard with otemu peaches are waaaay more silent. Agree on typing experience though, it's amazing for a pre-built.
I bought this keyboard and I wish you had gone into some detail about how trying to use the board for any sort of media controls is obnoxious and counter-intuitive! I like the board, but to turn up or down the volume, I have to just REMEMBER the key combos, and then reach both hands over to the right side of the board to hold the FN key and hit an unmarked F11 and F12 key to adjust volume, with seemingly no way to make the buttons do that without the FN key.
I've been looking to buy a mechanical keyboard but I always hate how loud some of them are. And I don't have the money to splurge on some insanely thocky and silent keyboard. So this seems perfect for me. So quiet. Just what I want.
@@VicInCommentSection at the normal position, the only sound i've heard is the sound you touch the key. This silent switch have no sound when i pull it out
Throw some outemu silent switches on that board and show off the battle of nosoundingness :D Love your vids and the chill style. Actually, your last silent keyb video caused me to buy a mecha that instantly got torn apart and moded towards absolute silence. I bought some rebranded silent outemu switches from gamakay to put on my Mountain Everest max keyb, verry expensive gaming keyb lots of metal, cherry switches, dampening and it still felt cheap out of the box. I foam-modded it because the rubber between the plate and PCB was just...meh, tape-moded it also filled the bottom with as much foam as possible. + I glued in the absolute max possible amount of square nuts using double-sided tape, easily doubling the weight of the keyb to about 2.5 kg, clipped + lubed + band-aided all cherry stabilizers ....and re-lube all the outemu's, including the spring because spring ping af ... what a pain to do ... full-size keyboard 105 keys... easy 5 hours ... and a ton of weird looks from my gf .....but totally worth it. Added pbts caps its a different key now, silent as the varmilo keyb, and if someone tries to break in, I could also use it as a weapon. :D
This thing sounds incredible stock wow. It would be expensive but I wonder if anyone has had the thought of buying one of these just to take the switches and put them in another board. I was convinced by this video and bought this keeb (kinda impulsively, not thinking about how I use a numpad all the time…) and actually did take the switches and put them into my RK 96. There’s definitely a difference in the keyboard builds! The varmilo with the kailh prestige silent switches was maybe even quieter than my office membrane keyboard! The RK96 is much more resonant and makes its stock yellow switches sound heavenly-BUT with the kailh prestige silent switches (varmilo), it’s not nearly as quiet as the varmilo. If you’re like me and the 75% is not for you, varmilo actually has a lot of different sizes and you can buy several of them with the kailh prestige silent switches already in. I can’t speak for those builds, but I am really impressed with the minilo stock!
quiet keyboards deserve more love. at home I have some pretty thocky keyboards for my home office, but I take a full size niz EC keyboard with me to work, which is a godsend.
@@abelincoln7473 Wrong, there are cheaper quiet mouse out there, which are more silent than the logitech (which is also quite heavy) and makes a scratching sound when moving.
@GordonSeal such as? No reason not to share..
Where did you get the 35g spring? What did you end up using? I’m sorry I got lost somewhere about the O Rings. Was it the durock dolphin switches swapped out for 35g spring? I need a light silent tactile and still trying to figure out what are available and suggestions. Thanks 🙏
@@gabbychow4026 you could also look into hall effect, or magnetic switches.
Im starting a new job at a call center and i relly wanna pop off with a quiet keyboard that i moded to also make me type faster. So we'll see how it goes im exited, they said we could bring our own keyboards so idk
I just tried to find find a good quiet keyboard but realized I don’t use any sound on UA-cam
After your tape mod, the keys sounded like a tropical rain falling on giant banana leaves if you were listening from inside the house, under a blanket.
Some serious ASMR and dangerous if you had to write a paper. Fighting sleep with every paragraph typed.
Just got mine! It's great! I don't even feel the need to tape it!!
Does the keyboard smell? Do you notice the smell while you are typing?
@@kjvisual7 no. There is no smell at all!
Appreciation post: Thanks for introducing this amazing keyboard!!
I just bought it recently!
Let me tell u guys, its definitely awesome and worth it.
It would save your relationship with your gf/wife.
Quietness: 9.5/10 (i dont think you can ever find any mechanical keyboard this silent)
Typing feel: 8.5/10 (the switch is responsive and it feels real good. I play moba game alot. I used to hv razer blackwidows, corsair, hyperx keyboard. This is definitely one of the best as well)
I was looking for this type of comment in the comment section just wanted to say thank you for giving us your feedback on the keyboard. I have been having the office keyboard which is a basic boring keyboard and I have been using it for quite a while and I think its time for an upgrade. I'm definitely going to order this keyboard.
Mr. Hipyo, get me this in ISO Nordic and I'll force all three of my kids to subscribe to your channel!
I want a full size
The only difference just looks like the color of the chassis and stem
nice one actually! we need more of the quietest bluebell review! does it feel scratchy? how is the stabilizer?
I have the same keyboard but with a different color scheme and switches but the stabs should be the same and they’re pretty good stock
Very cool. I want to see this gasket mount in other keyboards (+ easier to open)
...you might have saved me. I got a lovely RisoPhy keyboard, my first mechanical and my family have complained its too loud so doing the review for a quiet one might seriously have saved my ass
too much talking say too little, not even enough sound test
there's literally a sound test at the end
3:41 the board comes with double-shot *ABS keycaps.
You should test these switches on other keyboards
I'm in need of a "silent" keyboard, as quiet as possible. How does this compare to an unmodified Epomaker RT100? Possible to for you to do a video on the top 3 or 5 library silent keyboards?
There's a small ice cream shop near where I live, love their 'Ice Latte-Da', basically coffee mixed with chocolate chips and fudge.
Really tragic that they dont sell a 108 key version of this.
built my first keyboard today. its got some issues, but i dont have the time right now to fix them. sounds pretty good for stock switches
I ended up getting a RK68 as part of my work it budget and modding it with silent alpaca switches, I love my tactile clackity-clack but the silent switches are good for not aggravating the unenlightened thocc-deniers 😂
not gonna be so quiet after i lose 4 games in a row
Thank you Josie, you’re the best!! No really tho thank you for this video!! I’m looking for a new keyboard for college and I love this!
Im not into this hobby but i think its also the way everything is not meant to be taken apart. If theres more space, they hit each other and make noises, if its tight enough without any spacing=each parts will not hit each other=no noise. I wonder if you losen everything itll start to have sounds
I could not recommend haimu heartbeats and whisper silents enough, basically no mushy feel and silent/semi silent, (no padding for upstroke but you dont hear it at all)😊
I liked the look of the eucalyptus one. Maybe it's because it reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream, which is my favorite.
Hey! Have you heard about the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a compact device that offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. It can help keep your desk spotless and swiftly clean your keyboard too. It's definitely something worth considering for your desktop setup! Let me know if you need more info. 🖥🔧
I just got this badboy and its ridiculous how silent and great this sounds its AMAZING. Thanks for putting me on Hipyo!! Only took a week-ish to get here from Shenzhen too. I agree the box does smell like perfume which is not bad I guess 😂😂
Just a quick question if I may. Have you tried opening it? I feel that Hipyo destroyed his KB, but shouldn't have. (I'm looking to get a KB to throw in the bag when I got to the office, this would be great: quiet and light :))
@@florisbot nope I havent opened it but this would be the perfect throw in the bag keeb.
it seems that taking it apart and adding the tape has some how made it not silent as the last audio you can hear the keys compared to the 2nd last audio
A fake typing test at the start of the video (you muted the mic) so it draws in people to see how the keyboard performs. Then, 11 minutes of yapping only to find out at the end that the keyboard is not silent, as you showed at the start. Nice video mate. Very helpful.
Hahahahaha get scammed
Suggestion: How it's made videos. Take apart something like a switch and explain what pieces give it certain properties
I have a Content Linear Brown, which I'm assuming is a knock off of a Gateron Linear Brown.
Thank you so much! Enjoy the keyboard.
This keyboard is absolute heaven, worth every penny
even when it's silent, it sounds so nice. 😍😍
Great sounding keyboard, might need one for streaming! As for the ice cream, I’m one of the lactose free gang so I always tend towards lactaid’s salted caramel ice cream. Never had any distress after eating a bowl of it, which has been great since I loved ice cream growing up, in spite of the crippling stomach pain lol
Good choice!
I'm hopefully starting work in HR next week and we have those cheap Dell keyboards, which are horrendous. With my first paycheck, this would be one of the first things I get to change my office space. I'll be sharing the room with someone and I think this would be a fantastic addition. Unfortunately, the Retro theme is out of stock but I'm hoping it'll be in stock soon. I can't wait to get this keyboard!!
Super quiet! Nice 👌
I bought these switches bc of this video. And its amazing silent!
I just need the quietest keyboard so I can play games without my husband getting a headache or being kept awake
Got any suggestions for a silently matching mouse?
My fav kind of ice cream is strawberry because after a hot summer day and you go to an ice cream parlor and their frozen strawberries in it that melt in your mouth. Peak ice cream
i think thocky is the best, and that everest keyboard for windows xp in the basement is the worst
I think i need a video on how to build the world cheapest and quietest 65% hot-swappable keyboard known to mankind
"the shell is mostly plastic which could be a problem later" foreshadowing is at critical levels lol.
Now we need a total silent tactile keyboard with 50g+ springs
Give me a Keychron and I will say: “good job taking it apart hippo”
I would really like a review/test of the WS Silent switches!
nooooooooooo! I have been shopping for *years* for a keyboard this quiet! it's so close to being perfect, but there's no numpad, home, or end key! (also, no all black color....). This makes me want to cry!
I'm lactose intolerant, but every couple of years I throw caution to the wind and get myself some Pecan Praline Icecream 😋
Also, I think the people in my office would love me to have that silent keyboard. Also, they won't spend the money on it. I think the fact that the keyboard is all plastic and rubber/silicon is integral to it's silence. My RK84 has an aluminum plate and it is most certainly the source of most of my keyboard's noise.
my favorite kind of ice cream is taking all of them and mixing them into an unholy gray amalgamation
Keyboard: completely and utterly silent. Doesn't even register on the mic.
Hipyo: "I bet I can make this quieter!"
if this was moddable, black, with better pbt keycaps, 5 socket and with south facing switches this would be awesome.
there is almost no keyboards on the market that are low profile without using low profile switches without a really high typing angle that you cant adjust.
Finally a keyboard that won’t burst my eardrums
I bought this keyboard and I wish you had gone into some detail about how trying to use the board for any sort of media controls is obnoxious and counter-intuitive! I like the board, but to turn up or down the volume, I have to just REMEMBER the key combos, and then reach both hands over to the right side of the board to hold the FN key and hit an unmarked F11 and F12 key to adjust volume, with seemingly no way to make the buttons do that without the FN key.
That’s probably why they sent two.
Wow i love this one!!! I'm def in the group that wants a quiet keyboard for work meetings
I've been looking to buy a mechanical keyboard but I always hate how loud some of them are. And I don't have the money to splurge on some insanely thocky and silent keyboard. So this seems perfect for me. So quiet. Just what I want.
My favourite kind of Ice Cream is either strawberry or cookies and cream. Funny enough, there are keyboard switches called "Cookies and Cream"
I remember when i got my varmilo keyboard it smelled amazing in the box, they must use something special to prepare it
9:55 this kind of moments are the reason why I love hipyotech
Got this after it release 2 weeks, very suprised for the first time press it. I love this so much
How close does your ear have to be to this keyboard for you to hear sound?
@@VicInCommentSection at the normal position, the only sound i've heard is the sound you touch the key. This silent switch have no sound when i pull it out
This is exactly what I want from my keyboard: to hear nothing at all!
Fr?
Throw some outemu silent switches on that board and show off the battle of nosoundingness :D
Love your vids and the chill style.
I foam-modded it because the rubber between the plate and PCB was just...meh,
tape-moded it also filled the bottom with as much foam as possible. :D
I am all about the silent keyboards, prefer the look of these kinda keyboards (I'm fresh to all this).
This thing sounds incredible stock wow. It would be expensive but I wonder if anyone has had the thought of buying one of these just to take the switches and put them in another board. Also I wonder how much work it would be to transfer the board into a nicer case
Apparently varmilo does sell the switches individually but they’re sold out currently
Tape mod and kilmat mod, of course, but gaffers tape instead. It’s all I had left, but it sounds better to my ear.
Also, butter pecan and lactose intolerant 💀
Looking into to it and yes - looking for silent.
