The QUIETEST Keyboard Switches I've EVER HEARD! - GamaKay Switches

- Over the years, I’ve tried my fair share of keyboard switches, but I mainly stuck to the widely available ones that come pre-installed on keyboards. Well, today I decided it was time for me to get into something a little more exotic. And that’s what we’re doing, on your boot sequence.
Personally, when I started to delve into the mechanical keyboard game, I naturally chose Blue switches. I dont know why, but it seems like overall, as a beginner clicky blues just SCREAM at you “ I’m finally a gamer with a mechanical keyboard” That’s Until you’re about 3 months into owning that keyboard and you realize that the keyboard is literally just screaming at you. Especially at night.
Anyways, since those beginner days, I’ve been trying all kinds of switches and I’ve landed on these. At home, I use good old cherry MX reds, and at work I use a razer keyboard that has the razor yellow switch. But im trying to get more into custom stuff, so I asked some companies to send me some switches, and voila. My current collection. I got Gateron, Cherry, Kailh, and Gamakays. I do have to respect very specific conditions. What we’re looking for here are the stealthiest switches. So let’s listen up.
Now there’s a winner here, and it's these right here. They’re called Phoenix Silent switches and they’re made by gamakay. I also have their bumblebee and crystal switches here, but they’re more of a standard linear switch.

Great video! I could never understand why gamers go to great lengths to build a quiet computer, only to pair it with a mechanical keyboard that sound like a bunch of legos bouncing around in a plastic box. Maybe you could do a video showing how you mod a keyboard to make it even quieter.
Its in the works 😉
@@BootSequence I’ll buy that shit.need some silence in my gaming life
Finally somone said it. Totally agree
@@BootSequence do they fit in outemu sockets?
Because satisfying clicky noises is better than a whurring loud fan?? Also you aint gonna type an essay everytime you use your computer.
I really appreciate this video. You are the first one that I've seen who actually compared switches in this way to give a true understanding of how loud or quiet the switches are. Now I need to find out if the Gamakay has a 75% keyboard with a knob. LOL, more research.
I have a knob…
I just got these because of your video. I don't know how long it will take to arrive I'm looking forward to it!!! Thank you for the video.
After a whole week of research, your video finally showed me the switch a was looking for. Thanks good sir
No problem 👍
I caught your video months late (new to your channel), but one of the reasons why I don't have a mechanical keyboard (even gaming). My daily driver is a SteelSeries Apex 150. I was researching to see if anything has changed in the world of switches, and man! I was glad to find this video! Clicky mechanical keyboards drive me insane (a bit of a sensory trigger)! I was thinking of getting a 60% keyboard and a custom key set, and the Gamakay Phoenix might be the clear winner for me!! Subscribed! 😀
Bro, that's exactly what I was looking for! The most silent switches. Thank you!
how do they perform comparing to the mx silent red ones? better / worse - and by how much?
I would love a direct comparison between these and the cherry MX silent reds. I have those on my keyboard at work but if these are even quieter that would be awesome.
@@1IPF which is the quietest and tactile? i do a lot of fast typing at work, looking for the tactile switches, and not disturbing for my work mates
@@Igor777K try durock shrimps
How sensitive are the phoenix switches to the touch compared to other switches like when you rest your fingers on your keyboard?
It's great that there's an option for them already built!
Thank you, your video saved me from buying a new keyboard, valuable info i cannot get anywhere else big thumbs up
I just lubed my keyboard's cherry red silents... and wow theyre so much quieter now. I wonder what these switches would sound like lubed? Would they be the first sound absorbing switches? 😂
I was looking for video like it for a while, thanks a lot!
Really interesting, but personally I would have liked a little more variety in silent switches like alpacas silent and otemu silent switches. There are so many more though.
The stem shape you described as bracket stems are used in box switches, I believe.
Anyway looking forward to more keyboard content from you!
Can I find a full-size wired keyboard frame (or keyboard) for the Phoenix switches ? Maybe a good one if possible, with volume knob or bar and with macro keys ... ?
Which keyboard use for these switches? Any tips in terms of what I need to get this working? I've got recently phoenix switches
I have some Silent Alpaca switches which I like and would also recommend you to try out.
They are a bit pricey though and I did not have a chance to compare them to other silent switches
U forgot the BIGGEST thing that kb tubers do at the end of every switch review, typing test. Would have loved to hear how it sounds typing
The switches with the box stems are literally called box stems or sometimes called dust-proof. I personally don't care about the wobble unless I can really feel it when typing. If you're planning on making more switch reviews, try focusing on what the typing experience is like and make a short sound test.
On the switches, they look like they're using outemu molds, and combined with the price point, I'm a little worried with how will these switches hold up in the long run. The stock outemu red, blue, and brown switches are known to stop working over time after just a couple of weeks.
He did a short sound test..towards the first half or first third of the video.
no, they're not called box stems. It's box switches. The reason why they're called box is because the switch assembly is in a dust/water resistant box. They're mistakenly called box because of the stems. As for future reviews, I did a soundtest, but you're right, maybe a keyboard sound test with the entire keyboard filled with the switch im reviewing is probably a good idea.
@@BootSequence Sure, they are classified as box switches because of the stems, but I usually avoid calling newer switches with boxy stems as box switches.
The original box switches from Kailh is what I normally call box switches, like Box browns, or Box whites. I might just be old fashioned
EDIT: Because Kailh specifically has box in the name for their box series of switches, it distinguishes that line from Kailh's other non-boxed switches.
I know points behind why a box stem is designed, I've just encountered a lot of switches with box stem designs who sometimes call the stems as dust-proof
Just a disclaimer, I might have sounded negative or aggressive with my first comment, I'm not very good at explaining my point sometimes
@@nytalix642 No, you misunderstand. BOX switches aren't called so because of the stems at all - it has nothing to do with the stems whatsoever. BOX switches from Kailh are specifically called such because the entire switch leaf & actuation bumper (a rubber piece, not another terminal leaf) _is literally enclosed in a dust & water-proof boxed enclosure_. Take apart a Kailh BOX and see.
The square stems you see are correctly called Dustproof stems, because that's all they are! If you want to get technical, Kailh BOX switches also have Dustproof stems, and again, arent called Box switches because of them. The only difference is that Kailh uses their own specially designed dustproof stems to work with their BOXes & their clickbars.
@@goonfish Ohh, now I understand. I didn't understand it clearly the first time. Thanks
Good morning, I have purchased a Redragon K556 and want to swap the keys for the Phoenix ones. I a reading about scratchy pingy, can you tell me what this means? I type a lot on my keyboards, I just want quiet... please let me know... thank you
Seems great. I can't stand loud keyboards, especially if they're not my own. Also a pain when someone's mic pics it up. I have a good friend who uses reds at his office he usually shared with a few other people and I've told him we'd have a serious problem if he sat next to me with that all day :'D
hahaha using reds in the office ultimate troll 😂
Reds are quiet?
@@shaolinslumz Reds are quiet linears fam, whatchu mean?
Great video! I have a question though, what are optical switches? And are these optical switches? I ask because I have only found hot swappable keyboards for optical switches. I don't know if this is a dumb question or not but I am new to keyboards and don't want to waste my money. Can someone knowledgeable help me?
bought these because of your video..
as a fresh dad i can't use my thockiest build at night anymore so i build a new one with the pheonix switches and boy o boy these are silent af.
im from Germany and delivery was like a week which is very fast for an order from China.
They feel amazing too.. very satisfying!
thank you for the video
1:00 bro caught me lackin 💀
You should try Haimu Heartbeats. They are silent switches that don't use any rubber and have a new design.
Super nice video! And I have Been there" after I started working from home!
But dude - Have you tried Razers Red V.2. Switches?! They are so, so quiete and Pre-travel is 1.00 mm! I can write super fast without making any sounds! :-)
Oh yeah those sound nice. I currently use Kailh pink silent switches. The specs are similar between the two. The Kailh are nice though I'd actually like a bit more travel before registering a press. Looks like the Phoenix could be it. Nice video!
Im going to have to order a tester for every company now 🤣
Finally, an ACTUAL silent mechanical switch! It's not even that expensive, compared to other ones I've seen. What a great find and something I'll definitely look in to upgrade to, as I've always hated how loud any of the mechanic keys are in general. I can't believe you lasted 3 months on blues hehe
never heard of ttc frozen silent v2, those are more quiet than the phoenix one
Nah, nothing beats the phoenix in sound . If they do , they are mushier. I tried the fsv2. They feel like o' rings.
gamakay phoenix is compatible with my ducky one 3 full size keyboard?
Installed Outemu Silent Cream Yellow. It's insanely quiet. I couldn't hear it. Except the spacebar because of the support from sides. Put a band aid on the spacebar side supports and bike bearing oil. Now it all sounded the same.
can someone answer this for me: i have a tezarre tk61 60%. can i use these switches on it?
Hi, can you also review the Gamakay LK67 keyboard?
If you are looking for budget silent switches take a look at Outemu Silent Grey (tactile), Outemu Silent Lemon (tactile), or Outemu Silent Peach (linear).
If you have a bit more budget the Gazzew Boba U4s is regarded as the best silent tactile switch.
Durock also has some fantastic silent switches, like the Durock Dolphin.
Recently Akko has put out some very reasonably priced and great switches, they have a number that are silent (tactile and linear)
i vouch for boba u4. not only for the silence, but also for tactility. round bump is nice. and u4 is practically all bump. no pre/post travel, hence no wobble. nice.
I have the bobas U4T tactile and they have an awesome feel, but for silent ones I prefer the Durock Dolphins. They are really really quiet.
Recently built a keychron k2 with boba u4 (68g springs) and akko double shot pbt caps. Keyboard feels amazing and its really quiet. It's perfect for the office and the tactility is amazing when typing on them.
I'm using capacitive Topre like switches and I love them.
When i try to put in the discount code it does not work, i do not know what i did wrong lol😅
Wow! those phoenix switches sound so good I want them so bad :D
can you send a link of that red dragon keyboard? i think its 75% keys.
Does anyone know, if these switches will work with Glorious GMMK? Their website says that their barebones are compatible with Glorious, Gateron, Kailh, and Cherry switches. Thanks.
They should be. I have them in my GMMK pro and they work great. You could always contact glorious' customer support to see if you have a different gmmk model or something as well.
Can I use these switches on a Razer Huntsman Tournament?
Hi, does GamaKay switches fit RK100? TIA
Anybody tried lubing these Phoenix switches? Does the lubing make any difference?
I like the clak of the model M from back in the day I'm close to 40 now but it's like MUSIC to me!
While you're swimming around in the mechanical keyboard community pool, have you come across any keyboards or keys that feature a half-width CAPS LOCK key? That's something IBM had in many of their early models to help avoid toggling CL on and off when typing, but none\very few of the current manufacturers make them like that these days. I wonder if it was maybe a patented idea that requires licensing to be used, and that's why it's not common. I'd love to get a replacement key for my K70 cos the gap between the CAPS LOCK and A is tiny :-/
That's called a stepped caps lock key. You can't just replace a normal caps lock keycap with a stepped one because the switch for the sepped keycap is not in the middle of the keycap and more to the left in the high part of tthe keycap.
@@MrIamsosmrt Thanks for this info. I hadn't heard that term before, so it's no wonder my searches for "half-width" keycaps didn't come up with anything!!
Well I guess I learned something new too!
i'm really looking for a super quiet optical switch, anyone have recommendations?
Thanks for the video. One of the only ones I can see regarding the phoenix switches. I would have liked a comparison against other silent switches along with their price points with and without mods. I can appreciate this is an effort though.
For example, comparing something like alpaca V2 with lube and films and without would be interesting as these are around twice the price of the phoenixes. People keep recommending I need to lube/film alpacas due to stem wobble.
Then a comparison with outemu peaches as they are similar price point as well as the new heartbeat linears. Unfortunately their shipping to the UK is too expensive from canonkeys so their value drops heavily but as you're US it would be interesting.
I have purchased the phoenixes as they are the first switch I'll be using for a solderable PCB so less money wasted if I mess it up and the shipping was only £4.
Cheers
I wish I had the budget to buy a lot more switches I tell ya!
Finding ISO keycaps to this type of switch is so hard
Biggest ISSUE pulling the switches out the side pockets to pull on are none existing get ready to break constantly
Problem they are quiet and i love my Phoenix switches but for me the spring have zero tension makes it feel cheap to me
Do they support Redragon K617 fizz?
can you try to find some mouse that are quiet?
Awesome! Now I am curious to know if I could put those switches on a keyboard like ASUS ROG Claymore II or most of the STRIX series. o-o
did the phoenix match with a led keyboard?
As long as its top lit, yes. Some keyboards have upside down switches.
Have you tried the Gamakay Pegasus? I believe they came out at the same time as the Phoenix and are the tactile silent equivalent.
Pegasus were my second video on the gamakay switches. them and the griffins!
@@BootSequence I found that video shortly after I commented! It looks like you preferred the Pegasus between the three, so I think I'm going to try them, despite how tempting it is to have a phoenix-themed keyboard part. ❤🔥
@@shePhoenyx I should tell gamakay to sell a tester pack. That would be a banger
I've had blue switches for well over three months and I still love my keyboard, but then again, I'm a typist.
are the switches universal? would they work on an r6k1 or only gamakay keyboards?
They work with any Hotswappable keyboards. Just make sure the board supports 3 pins. ( Most do )
@@BootSequence ok, thank you 😁
can i install that in NuPhy75?

Why not JWK Durock Dolphin silent?
I'm a newbie so a newbie question. Are keycap compatibility a concern with these switches?
nah
if they got the cross shape they work
@@placeholder3863 exactly answer I was looking for. cheers! :)
Yeah man I need a full fat keyboard myself.
You should try other switches.. material quality is not so great and I found they get harder to take out after removing a few times.
Two mins in and I am on an ASMR high
try an 1800 keyboard layout
If you want silent you should try Boba U4's, Boba Gum's, or Zeal Silent switches
Will definitely be on my wishlist!
I'm ready for Thanksgiving now
I bought them even tho a „keyboard expert“ from a discord server said they are bad (he never tested them tho). Today they arrived and I tested them out directly. I have never been so satisfied with Switches. Tested out kailh speed silver, gateron red, blacks etc and most common switches. Nothing comes close to the Phoenix ones. These switches are even more silent out of box than other switches with a ton of lube due to them being build so stable. Thinking of making a video on them too since there are barely any videos on UA-cam for these switches. Great video my friend ❤💪
Hi, could you update me on your experience with the switches? I found 2 youtube comments saying these fall apart in around a month and even less, is that true with your experience?
Edit: spelling
@@WonderingWanderer14 yeah of course! I am still using them and I am 100% satisfied. No issues at all, mega silent. I would really recommend them
@@ssbmgosu4990 thank you!
I got mine yesterday and lubed it the same day. Even when I'm raging in chat it doesn't sound like I'm raging 🤣
Do they sell a full sized keyboard with these switches?
No. They only sell the switches with a 65percent. You need 3 packs which sucks.
I have the gammakay phoenixes.. and they are quite possibly the loudest silent switch I have ever tried. If you want absolute quiet, check out the outemu honey peaches. They're a little mushier than the phoenixes.. but SOOO much more quiet. If you want quiet with a better bottom out feel, then you should try the Wuque Studios WS silent linears.. which are quieter than the phoenix's.. and feel better bottoming out.
That's surprising to me, most love the phoenixes ! I'll definitely try the honey peaches out!
@@BootSequence I current run WS silent linears right now... Cheaper than the epomaker seasalts. Otherwise Indistinguishable. Highly recommend them.
well, you see you've heard them, and well that just means that they are not in fact the most silent switches
Thanks so much
Thanks for your video.
Hello everyone, maybe someone could help me out. I have a Corsair Platinum XT cherry blue keyboard and ohh my im so over it cause its so loud. But i have no idea what brand switches would work on my keyboard trying to find something quiet to game at home and not wake anyone up. Cherry red seems nice but so confused of what would work and what wont plus i know ill need to do a lot of desolder and resoldering haha
I thought that keyboard had soldered switches? Nonetheless, if you're willing to desolder, these a great for a silent keyboard
@@BootSequence yeah im thinking to desolder it, cause dont wanna waste an expensive keyboard. Will any switches fit that though? Thank you
all 3 pins will! and those are 5 pins, so make sure yours has the little post holes that make it a 5 pin. Or you'll have to waste time cutting off the 2 plastic posts.
Cool... to be honest I kept away from Mechanical Keyboards precisely due to noise and my late hours ....
Maybe one day...
You should take a look at the Razer 60% keyboard, super unique switch design and the silent switch one feels amazing and is super quiet too.
Can I use any keycaps for the phoenix switch?
Cherry stem , so mostly yes
is it really compatible with kumara k552 ?
It seems the kurama 552 is outemu bound. There might be a mod available, but officially, it seems it's not compatible
wait so you didnt have to file down the pins to fit these switches into the red dragon?
They were put in a Glorious GMMK.
Razer has very stable key compared to others as well
great video!
Thanks!
You should try bobagums, they are known as the best stock silent switch on the market
Will try them :)
Subbing for the greens, beans, potatoes...
Great reveiw!! I got phoenix and crystal, and I was really amazed stem stability and kind of noble typing feel with Crystal. Basically I am silent linear switch guy, started from cherry silent red, and went through many (kailh deep sea, box silent pink, Sakurio, Roselio, and so on). Crystal is far from silent. It's very loud and I can hear spling noise. But I can't get away from typing feel of crystal now...
bro do your cherry mx keycaps fit on the gamakay phoenix switches ?
@@YD1002YD I’m using mix of PBT / ABS keycaps for cherry MX (OEM profile) and all of them fit with gamakay crystal / phonenix switches. Some keys are loose fit, but it's happened by Kailh switch previously. Thin plastic sheet between key cap and key switch well fixes it.
@@Ryohta77 ok nice, thank you
what do you find being the quitest between phoenix and sakurio, roselio and alpaca if you tried them before? I struggle choosing
@@AlmostTom I don't have Alpaca.
Sound(No lube, w/ PBT ESC keycap, no hard hit): Sakurio is clearly quietest. Roserio is second. Deep sea and Phoenix are in 3rd group. Phoenix contains light, plastic-chattering like noise with key cap. It's comparison in silent category. Crystal is far louder than all of them :)
Stem stability: Phoenix is best, Deep sea is 2nd (very close to Phoenix), Roselio wobbles very much and Sakurio wobbles even more. Crystal is ridiculously stable.
Will they work with a roccat?
if it has swappable switches it should. They're 3 pin!
