Start by pulling the hose out to the furthest point in your yard, from the hose reel/water source; and start spraying side to side while backing up towards the water source and pulling the hose out of the way before you spray an area of lawn. There will be no chemical residue on your hose. Love your channel!
Glad you added that results clip at the end, I wondered what potassium application would do. Looked greener and robust compared to the shot you took after mowing. The low brown got over taken by new low green growth. Cool
Look forward each weekend for a new video. But I admit I miss your old lawn. I go back, back, back, back to see them again. See, I even miss the music!!!
going to have to try that in spring after crab grass prevent. Just made last lawn cut last week for winter. milo. definitely has given huge boost of growth to my grass since sept. next year i will give a full year to the lawn. may continue with daughter's project and maybe transplant to a larger planter.
Huge fan of the channel in Canada, Alberta winters are nasty seeing sunshine and green grass is refreshing. Some very good educational information in these videos, I like the science and the planning that goes into it all so it's not just "throw 'er down" who are we kidding we all like that part but nice to know what goes into it all. I don't think it can be all stripes all the time and dominating your neighbours all the time because then people would complain that all you do is lay double fat stripes every week, it's cliche but a good balance is key! Thank you for all the information keep up the great work looking forward to 2017. I wish we could just get more videos sometimes once a week isn't enough LCN! Thanks to you and this channel I started a Lawn Care company as a side business for now see where it goes, but this channel has been a huge resource for me. Merry a Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Hi The Lawn Care Nut, liked your video as well - which is what i usualy not do that regularly because i'am the viewing only person more or less. But never the less i like all your videos very much and especialy the older ones inspired me for my own personal lawn care. But as some already pointed out, your video style changed chince you moved to Florida. As i'am also not from the states, most of the product reviews are not so much of an interest for me as i can't buy them over here in europe. But what i think is very interesting also lately are the videos about turf analysis, etc. the basic tech stuff which is equal all over the world. Also i liked your spring/fall care videos a lot. Even if you have done them before, i'am sure you can make a redo with our latest thoughts or bring some more aspects into it. And of course, the mow/beer, etc. Video parts are also very funny! So go on, and stay awsome...
Thanks for the video on the hose end sprayer. Been subscribed for a about a year and a half. I do enjoy some of the new content, but I miss that beautiful tall fescue lawn in Indiana and the cool season grass content.
was thinking of doing a Potassium application this weekend but I'm worried that the snow blower will harm the lawn when I remove the 6 inches of snow on it. LOL I wouldn't worry about down turn in views my friend you will be ok come spring. I do like these info videos you are doing and taking notes to use when the grass comes next year. enjoy the Holidays and green grass wishes to you in the coming New Year
I think my garden is deficient in (K) due to small fruits and low production, it was previously lawn. I'm in the process of spreading fertilizer and lime on the grass, there is no topsoil and I'm sure no one has put down any fertilizer because it looks like prairie grass LOL. Over the winter, I was adding an organic version of Kelp & Sulphate-of-Potash to my garden area with some fish fertilizer to help build the soil.
I still find your vids interesting even though I have cool season lawn so now I follow both jake and you. I bet you don't miss the snow and freezing your but off. Merry Christmas 😀😀
LCN...love the channel and the tips. I just got my analysis back from Savvy Soil. Working some potash application and this video is spot on. Then I'm on to throwing down some lime. BTW...I know it's an older video but the music is straight out of Canada and the Trailer Park Boys! Thanks and keep the videos coming!
Have you looked into putting an additive system on your sprinkler? It uses the same Venturi concept to put the supplements through your sprinkler. Perfect on well zoned sprinklers.
I guess I'm in the minority here. both in opinion and I think I'm also one of a few female fans. The hubs helps me do all the grunt work, but I find this stuff interesting enough to do all the research and calculating lol. I'm in Florida and learned a lot from your IN videos, but was really excited when you moved to Florida, simply because I can't grow Fescue, and down here, Bermuda is just a weed (haha). Any new environment is going to require time to adjust and get up to speed. You are going to hear complaints from those that were enjoying the status quo, and that is to be expected. I know eventually the domination will take over the channel once again. In the meantime, I think you are creating really valuable content. I think you've gotten quite technical and informative, and I'm really enjoying learning from you. I've always asked many of the questions you are answering in your videos: especially the equipment ones like the above video's treatment with a hose end sprayer, or, for example, how to walk when putting something down in a backpack/pump sprayer. These questions were answered by you and relieved a lot of frustration and reduced intimidation when starting out. I just started using your program a few months ago and my lawn has improved by leaps and bounds. If you ever need more content and a closer project lawn (wink), I'm in SW Orange County near Disney.
LCN, I recently got a soil savy test done (first one I've ever done which has left me some questions) regarding the Bermudas monthly dose of fertilizer. Like you, I am a firm believer in Milogranite. 1. Do you recommend milo for a monthly application of Nitrogen/ or should I supplement something else like a start fertilizer too? 2. Do you prefer granular or liquid pot ash supplementation? Lookin' forward to your reply!
Since the product you’re using is basically Phosphoric Acid as the active ingredient, which is also fantastic product for removing rust (iron oxide) from house paint from the well water (I’m in the Tampa area). Will this product lower the Iron level in the soil?
Surprisingly visible results. Who would have thought. Once again, the content was great and you have the ability to keep us entertained along the way. You'd make a great professor. Will you be applying the potash to the rest of your yard?
Great video Allyn, thanks for taking the time to show us the time and effort it takes to have a kick ass lawn. If you're ever interested I live in Parrish, FL which is 20 minutes south of St. Pete and have St. Augustine with some weed issues. I would love to have you film some videos here if you like. Throw er down on my lawn! Yeah Baby, Yeah!!! Long time subscriber and big fan of your channel.
You should do a video about how to plan application of several different products with different rates. Use a fresh bottle of sponsored wine for each calculation. Make sure to drink all the leftover wine during testing. Then review the products and the wine. You will probably have to hire someone to do the spraying to make sure you don't suffer from contamination. Think of it as a form of job creation.
I'd love to see a video about putting wood ash on the lawn ! Is it good/bad? What vitamins? Wranglerstar did one but didn't really dive into the lawn . Thanks !
Had my first hose end sprayer experience with moss out. Mine said I had to add water to the tank to provide the correct application rate. I have no clue what I'm doing with a hose end sprayer lol 😂
Hey Al, do what I do - walk backwards with a second lawn care nut pulling the hose out of harms way. This way the hose stays nice and fresh so when you take it back to Home Depot for refund they don't get any K on themselves! 🤣. My hoses are way older than my cat. 😿
as someone whom watched from the beginning during life and lawns days, about 5 episodes back I noticed a presentation shift. I could write it out and send it in Facebook if you like.
Those are great results! I wish my Bermuda wasn't dormant yet, but the perennial rye is going nice and I get to use the rotary for a change. Overall a worthwhile exchange. Do many people overseed their Bermuda in Florida or does it not go dormant long enough to be a concern?
some people do rye here - mostly in the public parks and on sports fields. If you watch my snapchat from today you can see the rye in the waterfront parks downtown ... it's pretty cool. I had thought about doing it but decided not to add anymore "stuff" to my already struggling st augustine lawn.
Can I use a hose end sprayer to apply a pre-emergent? I only have a 2 gallon pump sprayer, and 13,000 sq ft to cover. I would need to refill it 7 times to cover my lawn. And I don't want to spend $100 on a backpack sprayer for something i would only use twice a year!
Hey bro just smashed that like button for ya. Learning a crap ton about how to have a good lawn because of you, appreciate that. Also what are your thoughts on Centipede Grass? It's what I was left with and trying to keep a good lawn/curb appeal on a budget.
allyn: now that i think about it, the "lever position" on the hose-end applicator is irrelevant since you were able to measure the hose water output using your 2 gallon bucket measurement test. correct?
I am interested in reviews of different organic fertilizers, I know you like Miloganite, and other feed your lawn type products like Jonathan Green Love Your Lawn Love Your Soil. I'm also interested in your thoughts on loamy sand soils (which I have in NJ) and the best ways to build soil ecology to get the best lawn. I'm even interested in other soil types and how to amend them for the best lawn, and I know in the later spring/early summer I'll be looking for advice on preventatives for lawn disease so I'd like your thoughts on products like Actinovate Organic Fungicide or AG Southern Garden Friendly Fungicide which use colonies of beneficial microbes to fight against harmful ones instead of synthetics. Thanks.
Just curious, have you done much on larger yard care? Obviously you'd have to find somewhere else to do vids, but I have 1.5 acres and a lot of the walking methods aren't practical or effective. I've done a lot of spot spraying and such as you have outlined and it helps a lot, just curious on your thoughts.
I bought a field king unit this season, and I am super happy with it. The high flow fan tip kicks ass. Pump with one hand and spray with the other, no need to stop unless you need to mix up more product. Would be cool to see LCN do a review on the field king back pack sprayer.
Another great video! Just out of curiosity, why did you pick the liquid potassium vs granular? Also, really glad you moved to Florida... for selfish lawn reasons.
Love your videos man! I recently did the soil test, though I took soil samples from three different spots and then mixed those in a bag and submitted my sample for testing. The results came back showing that I am high in Nitrogen and VERY low in Potassium. Also that I would benefit from Gypsium. Considering that it's been sometime since we've fertilized our lawn and we are high in Nitrogen, I'm curious whether some of the soil included in my sample was from our garden which we've planted in the last three weeks? Any help?/
I always get a kick out of your math and 1000 sq ft areas that you work with when I have over 100,000 sq feet. You get 1-2 bags of something I get 10-12.Still love the info I just have bigger toys to put it down.
Dewey Graves Jr. found potassium sulphate on amazon 5 lb bags it’s better than themuriate whic, has chlorine in it I. Got 40lbs with shipping wa s 70 dollars it’s powdery so I used a drop spreader set on 8 and did it earlier as the wind starts to pick up early on the ocean then watered it in
brickit26 the guy does not ghost my lawn he actually puts down spray. As well as pellet form fertilizer. I watched him many times he doesn't know I watch it but I have. This guy looks like he's running a hundred yard dash across my lawn back and forward
No TrueGreen guy allowed on my lawn. I walk the lines and divide the spaces between the hedges. I hunt the weed and sedges. Throw down the fert and lift up the blades that keep it all level. And when I'm done - I drink the drink that says "I see a weed over there!" 🤦🏼♂️
Hi Allyn I'm not sure if I missed something, but why isn't this Potash included in your famous organic fertilizer program, if the Milorganite doesn't contain enough Potash?
we used some Ringer Lawn Restore in the program also, and that contains potassium. This is just an alternative if you have a soil test and you are lacking ONLY in potassium.
Ahh makes sense THANKS BUD yes I use Ringer every year thanks to you! I didn't realize that Ringer was the 'missing link' in the organic program for the Potash! It was presented in your organic video program to supplement it but not referring to its Potash content to supplement what Milorganite was missing at time.
I think you could use a tank sprayer. I think you would use something like 4 oz per gallon and spray 500 square feet. That math should work out to 8 oz/1000 sqft using 2 gallons.
I think you need to go back to more content and less fluff. Your highest viewed, and my favorites, are when you tackle a problem or complete a project. For example what was the outcome of potash part 1? You could have combined both part 1 and 2 and made a nice 12 minute video. Keep plugging away!
Dear Mr Nut, A way to broaden your ideas and views could be to have your viewers send in a video problem from across the country. You could cut, edit and solve the problem for us, and we get to participate :)
Poppi3579 That's what they say, yes. Maybe you can sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house and of course in the armadillo's hole where he sleeps during the day, if he's hiding out on your property, that is.
Cant ya just fill the jar to the number of gallons (eg 10 or 20 gallons) ya want to spray? The same amount of product will be put on your lawn, you will just have it mixed with 10 or 20 gallons instead of just 2 gallons in the same square footage. Doesnt matter how much water, just how much product over the 1,000 sq ft. also, on that chapin spray bottle, cover the little air hole on the top of the jar lid with your finger while spraying for proper siphoning effect. bottom line, put your 8 oz over 1,000 feet with 10-20 gal filled jar...that gives you lots more time to spray the same amount of product over the same area of lawn. 8 oz is 8 oz.....1,000 sq feet is 1000 sq feet, doesnt matter how many gallons of water you used to put it on eh? more water might even be better so not to burn the lawn or run out of product prematurely and spreading too much on a smaller area.
Your views might down because most of us can't relate to your Florida lawn. It was better when we could see our type of cool weather grass being managed. I know you are trying hard with your St. Augustine grass, but I lived in Texas and had similar grass, and well...it's boring and ugly. I'm in the Midwest now and there are a lot more choices in grass type. Plus, you lose me on the very technical stuff. Still, I enjoy your channel, but I don't follow as closely as I use to since you moved. With that being said, Thanks for introducing me to Milorganite. It has made all the difference in the world on my yard.
Start by pulling the hose out to the furthest point in your yard, from the hose reel/water source; and start spraying side to side while backing up towards the water source and pulling the hose out of the way before you spray an area of lawn. There will be no chemical residue on your hose.
Love your channel!
good stuff thank you!
Another hardcore lawn dude sticking with ya through the winter. Love the videos no matter how many views. Winner winner chicken dinner.
thanks brother!
the follow up six days later was really cool to see.
Glad you added that results clip at the end, I wondered what potassium application would do. Looked greener and robust compared to the shot you took after mowing. The low brown got over taken by new low green growth. Cool
"robust" is the right word!
The results were evident. Looked awesome. Love the channel.
Look forward each weekend for a new video. But I admit I miss your old lawn. I go back, back, back, back to see them again. See, I even miss the music!!!
"need more ad revenue." I spit my drink out my nose. lol
Final results blew me away!
Wow!! That really greened up!!
Definitely shows the benefits of a soil test. Will have to get mine tested in the spring! Thx for the vid!
yes I am having fun hacking the lawn at the nutrient level like this - like being a mad scientist.
going to have to try that in spring after crab grass prevent. Just made last lawn cut last week for winter. milo. definitely has given huge boost of growth to my grass since sept. next year i will give a full year to the lawn. may continue with daughter's project and maybe transplant to a larger planter.

Envy was in my heart when I saw that blue sky, but we have been in a drought here in TN so I'll take the rain and gray skies for now.

I dig your vids Allyn!! Thanks for helping with my crazy lawn and making it fun!!
Tampa, FL
you're welcome!!
After shot looks great Allyn! Keep up the good work!
Under a cold weather alert with wind chill in the negative two digits up here in Canada yet I'm watching.
Have you looked into putting an additive system on your sprinkler? It uses the same Venturi concept to put the supplements through your sprinkler. Perfect on well zoned sprinklers.
that would be no fun tho! :)
Nice vid Allyn. Putting down some 0-0-50 this September. Just not a liquid though. But I like the way you're thinking!!

The LCN's Gopro case has been declared a Superfund site by the EPA due to repeated exposure to chemicals. ;)
Please make a video, some time in the future, about someone in your area that manages their lawn organically.
Thanks!
I don't know if that person exists here.

Wish the thumbs up hand could be holding a beer. Cheers my friend. keep doing what your doing.
Keep doin' what you're doin', Semper Fi
Smashed "Like" because you drink wine in the winter in your lawn. And give us ADHD videos with good stuff in'em. :)
as someone whom watched from the beginning during life and lawns days, about 5 episodes back I noticed a presentation shift. I could write it out and send it in Facebook if you like.
That's a nice looking lawn
Die Hard Winter Crew Represent!
bam!
feel like with the new music Oscar the grouch is going to jump out of the shed in the video
Those are great results! I wish my Bermuda wasn't dormant yet, but the perennial rye is going nice and I get to use the rotary for a change. Overall a worthwhile exchange. Do many people overseed their Bermuda in Florida or does it not go dormant long enough to be a concern?

The Lawn Care Nut , just throw'er down! Would've loved to see that on this lawn. Maybe next year?!
I'm at Best Buy doing Christmas shopping and just thought you could do some great footage with a drone. Have u ever thought of that?
Does K25 dissolve well in water? Can you apply it with your back-pack sprayer? thanks
Thanks LCN!
merry christmas allen
you too bro
I've done a lot of spot spraying and such as you have outlined and it helps a lot, just curious on your thoughts.
which potassium would you use, sulfate or muriate
I'm getting rid of my hose-end sprayer. Considering a backpack sprayer.
I bought a field king unit this season, and I am super happy with it. The high flow fan tip kicks ass. Pump with one hand and spray with the other, no need to stop unless you need to mix up more product. Would be cool to see LCN do a review on the field king back pack sprayer.
Matt Hartup I'm gonna have to check that out.
Another great video! Just out of curiosity, why did you pick the liquid potassium vs granular?
Also, really glad you moved to Florida... for selfish lawn reasons.
Is red wine good for the lawn? I'd rather drink it! 🍷😋
Not sure how I got on your old video. But I need to know the name of the song playing?
Love your videos man! I recently did the soil test, though I took soil samples from three different spots and then mixed those in a bag and submitted my sample for testing. The results came back showing that I am high in Nitrogen and VERY low in Potassium. Also that I would benefit from Gypsium. Tom Reed you and me both!
sheesh what are you, a farmer? :)
Just big lots,we take your numbers and move the decimal point for some measurements and add a few zero's on the sq ft.
Same lol. I have several acres of just grass alone. No job is a quick one.
Whats your take on BEE SAFE products?
"vigorouser"? How much wine did you 'taste test' before applying it to the lawn? ;)
apparently not enough :)
allyn: what was the lever setting on the hose jar applicator such that you delivered 2oz. of product per minute per gallon of water?
Is there a dry potassium we could put on with the spreader? Love the channel
Dewey Graves Jr. found potassium sulphate on amazon 5 lb bags it’s better than themuriate whic, has chlorine in it I. Got 40lbs with shipping wa s 70 dollars it’s powdery so I used a drop spreader set on 8 and did it earlier as the wind starts to pick up early on the ocean then watered it in
I wish I could've walked that pace at TruGreen haha.
megafast13 yeah it's pretty fun to watch him spray my lawn three quarters of an acre and he does it in less than 5 minutes
Otherwise know as ghosting, trugreen sucks balls!
brickit26 the guy does not ghost my lawn he actually puts down spray. As well as pellet form fertilizer. I watched him many times he doesn't know I watch it but I have. This guy looks like he's running a hundred yard dash across my lawn back and forward

I planted sod last season it doesn't seem to be keeping up with the rest of my grass what may be the problem I live in the Midwest and of clay soil
Hi Allyn I'm not sure if I missed something, but why isn't this Potash included in your famous organic fertilizer program, if the Milorganite doesn't contain enough Potash?

Can you use ashes from a wood burning stove and have the same result? Or would it not be a good thing
yes but there is not way to know if you are getting a consistent application across each area.
comments for LCN!
Can over use of milorganite cause brown patch in Bermuda ?
looking good!
So what do you have for St. Augustine we it wakes up?? Iron and potash
Milorganite!
Will you test the soil before the Milorganite??
you don't have to - Milo is a good all around fert for any lawn, anytime. A soil test will just help you dial in the rest of the nutrients and the pH

thanks Brother!
Oh I see, your grass is going to come up half cut with the wine lol
So could you have used a tank sprayer. I prefer that.
Keep plugging away!
thank you for the feedback brother. I appreciate it, AL
Baptists communion cup portion baaahahaha so true 😇🙏🏻
Try walking backwards , to avoid getting product on your hose :-) best wish my friend.
Does this take you back to your True Green Days?
yes big time!
Dear Mr Nut, A way to broaden your ideas and views could be to have your viewers send in a video problem from across the country. You could cut, edit and solve the problem for us, and we get to participate :)
having issues with armadillos digging in my yard. how can I stop this?
Poppi3579 I've read that cayenne pepper works beautifully.
just sprinkle it on my lawn?
Poppi3579 That's what they say, yes. Maybe you can sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house and of course in the armadillo's hole where he sleeps during the day, if he's hiding out on your property, that is.
I never spray my grass with anything less than a 92 California Bordeaux!
hose management?
cool term right?
smash that like button
thank you!
Just got my soil test back... I virtually have no potassium.
Super early! Woo hoo!
smashed
boom! thanks!
who knows for St Aug lawns he rarely replys back
the back lawn you mean? it's a struggle, let's just say that :)
@6:16 The truth comes out! 10minute videos can have twice as many ads. :)
It has made all the difference in the world on my yard.
u should of used beer not wine
CC CC you know when life is good when you start spraying wine on the lawn. I remember the days when Allyn drank Ales.
4th
You know you could have just used water with food coloring and drank the wine... hehehehe
that would be no fun! Plus, I don't want artificial coloring in my lawn - I try to stay organic :)
Hopefully no one does a load of laundry while you are applying it and messes up all your calculations.
ha ha !
