A BIG SHOUT OUT TO ALLYN HANE on this! 👍 I had this issue back in late spring. Soil test came back with deficiencies in K. Had to spend 25 on small bag on Amazon also. Good to see this product come to market! Thanks Allyn! Great info John!👍
The live stream a few days ago I asked about a video for water transport of fertilizer through soil. The reason why is because I'm considering rainbird's xfs drip system and the easy flo. My concern has been if there will be an even coverage of fert when the spacing of each emitter is 18 inches. This would also go for humic and other products.
John I'm definitely a bagger of my clippings......your 0-0-31 would that be an alternate option to my K deficiency that I'm always in....and if so how much and how often do you think I'd need.....or is the yard mastery the better way or hybrid.....just looking to do what's best for the lawn
The brand called Protassium is sold in Canada and down into California for sure. They have many grade of Sulphate of potash, one certified organic, a very high grade soluble type and a variety of granule sizes. By the 50 pound bag, half ton tote, dump truck or rail car full. Mined up here in the province of Saskatchewan.
Yes. It’s good stuff. There’s a company I’ve used for a very long time that has all of the their soluble fines rates for organic agriculture as well. Really great material.
I have sandy soil and am low on potassium (common I understand because it becomes mobile with lower CEC)... why do I read that fall is the best time to throw down potassium when it is also said that it is mobile in the soil? Would snow and rain all winter long not mean that some significant amount of that is being wasted?
What percent sulfur and iron in the yardmastery product? The label doesn’t call out sulfur or iron. I think you started to touch on this when you spoke of the sulfate, but I wanted to know if this needs additional sulfur and iron. I was going to try this and some ironite together.
Hi, with your soil test kit will it also show if there is any virus or decease in the soil. I have a lawn service for years, the last 5 years I have had a 2' soil ONLY patch that has now expanded to about 15'x 10' of NO grass at all. I keep asking my service what is going on to no avail. Can you suggest what I should do? Thanks so much.
Thanks for the content, I’ve said it before but again GCF has made a hugh impact on my lawn. Also for me the midweek cut, keeping with the one third rule is a must.
so, it's February down here in ol GA. I want to put some K out in prep of Summer and poss. fungus..... Yard Mastery won't have 0-0-48 in until closer to Summer. I can't find anything NEAR that. What would you suggest. (when's the Open House for Greene County Fert plant?)
indigenous plants that are coastal can tolerate high amount of salts "chloride" and tolerate salinity. of course we understand fruiting plants require higher pottassium. I learned about sulfate of potash in my career Job working with plants. I am going to say Thank you for your info.
Came back to this video when I received my soil test results from 2 areas. TTTF in Va, K was 82 & 58 PPM, 6.4PH, Nitrate was 6 & 3 PPM respectively. Will get some SOP as SAP. :)
Señor Juan, 2 easy questions for you.... Soil tests over the last 4 years have consistently showed my Texas soil to be extremely deficient in K and above optimal in P. Naturally, S.O.P. can help with K levels. If my P level is very high, should I continue to use fertilizers that have zero P? Or do i want to pepper in a little on occasion? Question 2 regarding collecting (or not) clippings...What's your preference? This past season was the first where I collected all clippings. Hard to tell if my turf liked that or not because I also started reel mowng this past season, so my lawn has a different look to it. Still, it looked very healthy throughout and very green.
Off topic from sunny Minnesota, what is a good method of lowering sodium? In my neighborhood because of steep hills salt is applied heavily. Thx in advance and great videos!
Is it OK to put down potash, then wet it in with an chleated iron water in fertiliser at the same time?it's autumn where I am in Australia and I have Kikuyu. The potash is great for it but planning to put a chleated iron rich seasol liquid fertiliser
I'm so getting one those shirts. Two actually. One for me and one for my six year old who is already saying that when we are out pulling weeds (using Bend-o-knees of course). Love some roots!
It’s great if you can get it. It’s not commonly available around the states. You can get it, but it’s more complicated. Saltpeter (potassium nitrate) was commonly used for crops for ages. I looked at using it for some organic mixes we did a few years back.
GM John.. I just got the results from yardmastery's soiltest.. everything so so freakin low but N... would you be able to take a gander... I dont know where to begin.. thanks!
Thank you for this video. My soil test shows both a deficiency in Potassium and Sulfur. I just purchased the 0-0-48 blend from YardMastery, but noticed the label didn't mention sulfur. I submitted a question to their team and their response was, "the label doesn't list sulfur". Is it possible to have Sulfate of Potash and not have sulfur? I'd like to get sulfur down soon, as my test shows my lawn at only 2 ppm of sulfur. I could apply some elemental sulfur, but down want to over do it if their 0-0-48 SOP blend really has sulfur. Any advice?
My hat from Lawncology has seen a season in central Florida on property wondering how one might be able to get a couple more? It's my favorite hat in the heat or on the beach but definitely want a couple more if that's possible?
Not to take away from the product Allyn is selling but I encourage you to exhaust all your local AG stores, landscape supply, SiteOne, feed and seed etc. before sourcing these single nutrient products, 0-0-50, 0-45-0 etc. online.
Are there times when it is safe to apply more than that ~.5 lb/1000 rate? Like to dormant grass just before the snow comes (for those of us up north)? If so, how much can be applied at that time? I have a long road ahead of me at .5lb per month.... Love the content as always :)
Hey John. Got my soil test back today and in happy with results since last March. My phos had only dropped 1 point after notbusong any phos all year. The results suggest I don't need any NPK . MY n is perfect , P is still crazy high, my K is now perfect since apply the sop that u suggested and PH is great. Calcium is high and all else is not bad. IM confused now, should I continue to apply at least N to get my fall KBG prepared for the winter? I'm shocked that my results balanced out so well and now I'm not sure how I should go about applying ferts this upcoming spring? Should I be concerned about the high levels of Phos. I'm at 29 which is 3 times where the test says I should be. Again very happy with following your help but the phos level is crazy......
Question, you stated to put down a half pound of K over 1,000 sqr/ft and that the bag is 24 pounds and will cover 12,000 sqr/ft (8 minute mark), is this for two applications? I may not be understanding the rate, shouldn't the bag cover 24,000 sqr/ft at half a pound? Also, on another video you mentioned soil testing companies that recommended to put down an ungodly amount of K, that was me last year when I started this journey, my soil test stated to put down 4.97 pounds of 0-0-60 per 1,000 sqr/ft, I did and I am very glad that my grass did not burn/dry out. Thank you soooo much for educating me on the difference between SOP and MOP. I still have to figure out how to spoon feed K in the summer similar to Allyn's stress blend. Can I put down a low amount weekly (my K is at 38.59 per the Yard Mastery test results) and I am in Troy, Illinois?
I ran through this video so fast that I made a couple mistakes but yes, 1/2lb in two apps. I don’t generally recommend more than that per app unless it’s spring or fall. I try to cap app rates for maintenance at 1/2lb per nutrient per app
How can i get your help in reading a soil test? I have high pH (7.67), high sulfur and high calcium. Low in literally everything else but sodium. Thanks, SE Texas!
Definitely check locally first. This is a good product for small yards for folks who can’t get it locally. I’d go broke amending 8lbs/1000 of K2O on my 20ksf using this 😂
John, when you said 220-280 ppm, then went to lb/A, I think you went the wrong way. 220-280ppm would be 440-560lb/A, not 110-140. Then when you divide by your 44, you’re looking at 10-13lbs/1000.
Jacob Morissette oh my god a spoke to fast backwards. I’ll correct. Thanks Jacob I was flying through. Of all the ones to miss state. I’ve never done that backwards before 🙄🙄🙄
@@Lawncology my mysoil test came back at 29 and a recommended range of 38-72. It says all units are PPM....what am I missing? Seems like units are a magnitude off?
Greg Huizen if you’re at 29ppm, that means you’re deficient by 9ppm to get to that 38ppm low end of the optimal range. 9ppm is 18lb/A or about .5lb/1000 of K2O.
Ryan Quinn I have to be honest I kind of flew through this and made mistakes. There were things I wanted to say and didn’t and some things I sped over too fast and didn’t clarify
