How to Bass Fish with Weightless Tubes - Deadly Spring Trick‼️
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- Weightless soft plastics are highly efficient lures in super shallow water. They stay up near the surface and closely mimic bass forage seeking shallow, warmer water in spring. At this time, bass are looking to bulk up but are not yet expending a great deal of energy. Targeting these lethargic bass with a buoyant soft plastic tube fits the bill.

As a kid, Wired2fish's McKeon Roberts would wade the shallows of local lakes armed with only a bag of brightly colored tubes and a package of EWG hooks. Years late, he still falls back on this time-tested technique when the conditions are right.
Akin to a weightless fluke, weightless tubes give off the same lazy, slow, yet erratic motion of dying baitfish. The shallows gain a high percentage of a lake's fish population in spring, making for an exciting time to sight fish. Some lakes have mucky bottoms or a slight stain which can appear very dark. A bright or white-colored tube stands out brightly against the dark, allowing you to detect bites visually. Watching your bait go from bright to GONE is your cue to set the hook!
Roberts' setup may be light but is easily fished on a supple 30-pound braided line. He'll add a few feet of abrasion-resistant fluorocarbon to add a level of invisibility and abrasion resistance to the setup. As with any Texas-rigged bait, a tube is very snag-resistant and can be fished in thick shallow cover, including wood and lily pad root-balls, without getting hung up.

This guy is awesome! I don’t always watch every video that Wired2fish puts out but when I see this guy in particular, I make sure to watch it sooner or later. I like the way that he explains things. It’s easy to comprehend and he doesn’t come off as a guy with a big ego.
We appreciate that, Bates Yang! Dude loves to fish and teach. Thanks for watching-
I second that, this dude is easy to listen to. No crazy music just pure fishing. I didn't skip over any of it, good content, great communicator
By far one of my favorite wired2fish videos
Kickin off the morning with 11 minutes of bass fishing :)
Solid start! Thanks for tuning in!
Same here bud, trying to learn some tricks while dump Trucking.
Tubes are so underrated I plan on throwing them on a Texas rig a lot more
Tubes.. they’re just great to have in your bag. Versatile and simple.
They are. I'm going to try stroking some for smallies this year.
Love that method. Started out working those in a canoe as a kid using bigger plastics in the early 80s. I don't think there were tubes then??? Keep up the fun vids.
I started fishing tubes about a year ago. I'm definitely adding that tube rig to my arsenal. Great video.
Thanks, Matt! Great versatile bait for the arsenal.
I fish tubes year round usually weightless. People laugh when they first see my rigs until they start seeing the fish. The best part is I can change how I fish it and tell you what's going to hit it.
110% True Fisherman in this video. I love this video!
Thanks Luis- Glad to hear you enjoyed!
I love this guy on wired 2 fish. His panfish content is dope.
Thanks, Ben! More panfish stuff to come from McKeon (Keys) soon. Thanks again for tuning in-
Glad u get right to the point
This is how I have always fished for big bass near the shores it's a fun way to fish and almost never fails !
Its an old stand by for me too! -McKeon
I've been waiting for this one for a long time. Big ol bucket 🪣.🎣🎣
Thanks for waiting and watching!
Great video, great technique! I'll have to try this. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
No prob! Thanks for watching. Go out and give it a whirl-
Nice job bro good idea I love tube fishing and that white tube looks like a baitfish I like it have a nice day out there. Tube's are a awesome bait.god bless you and your family thanks for the video. Ps that tube looks beautiful in the water on the fall. What a day your having out there.
Been using tubes ever since I was a kid, best bass lure
No doubt!
Old fishing secrets never dies lol 😆
Fish catchers forever!
Good stuff McKeon! 👊🏼🇺🇸💯
Thanks for the tips my friend!
I fished the tube like this 15 years ago. Imma set this up for Wednesday on one of my rods!
One of my favorite lures to throw around
It's a must for the box!
I live in NY and never heard a Northern referred to as a jack in my 30 some odd years on the water. We actually call big yellow perch 'jacks' sometimes... I generally just call northerns 'those slimy things that are huge disappointments when bass fishing'🤣
Learned something new! Thank you
Yeah! Give it a try in shallow water! Thanks for watching-
Always be learning
Gosh those northern strain bass are huge! Wish we had something like that in IL... 😰
They make up for there length in roundness sometimes 😅
Do you notice that with the hollow body of most tubes , that your bait gets ripped up easily when Texas Rigging, since there's not much plastic to keep the hook in place?
The biggest problem is usually the head of the tube. Won’t stay on the hook real well after a few fish but I’ve beat up a tube until the bitter end.
Awesome action! Great
Tired of weights. Time to up my game. Good info. I appreciate it
My 83 acre reservoir in Alabama has Large Mouth and Spots that love the stupid toob! Has to be weighted, because it’s a deep hole. I’ll have to search for some white ones. Great video!
Thanks Johnny B! Good Ol' Stoopid Toob.
Big Jack I was like I know he is a northern boy like myself but can’t say I heard a toothy critter being called a Jack before.
Got it from Canadian buddies!
Down south the chain pickerel or the pike rarlry gets above one or 2 pounds and we in the south call them jack fish.Hi mostly fish flukes float and worms etc. I will give this I'll try though
I know this probably works anywhere in the country, but its nice seeing a fellow northern guy do it.
Anywhere, anytime the bass or shallow it’s good bet.
No matter where you’re from, you gotta love those V’s flying in for a strike!
That was a man-sized Bass right there. Do you think rigging it "stupid style" with just an EWG would be effective? I come from the " fluke" school of things & the only positive experience I've had with tubes is when I rig it "stupid style". Dude is catching sum monsters in a matter of a few minutes.. awesome fishing spot. Thx for the video Wired2Fish, you guys are always dropping pearls of wisdom with no strings attached.
Big thanks man! Yeah no... stupid style is where it’s at. Just a plain 4/0 EWG and go.. weightless to the Max. Same deal. Can’t go wrong.
I got a 4.12 smallie 2 weeks ago in a tourney on 3/16oz rigged stupid
I've been killing them on the Texas tube this April, so far my no.1 this month
Do you ever use a tube on a free rig??
Why does the title say, "Weightless Tubes" and he clearly mentions the Mustad weighted hook he's using?
Love using tubes but now everyone coming back to them 😂
More or less relating to the technique of the tube. Still swimming it just below the surface as you would completely weightless. Weighted EWG is literally just used for casting accuracy in this case. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome vid. New subscribers 🙋🏽♂️
👋🏼 Happy to have you! Thanks for watching!
What area was this filmed. North East?
Minnesota if I had to guess, the land of 10,000 lakes and 10,000 fisherman, no pressure 😜. Glad there's no dumb pike in my state.
Grew up on tubes!!
So did McKeon! Great beginning tactic. Simple and effective.
Wouldn't a belly weighted hook make it not weightless ?
Technically sure. more referring to the action of the bait and depth of water it's fished. Weighted EWG just aids in casting a little.
@@Wired2Fish have you tried it without a belly-weighted hook? Besides castability, does it still have the motion you would like?
I have never used tubes and have never really understood what benefit they had. Until now!
Tubes can get it done in a lot of ways beyond weightless. One pack of tubes is pretty universal. Thanks for Checking out the video!
What was the water temp in that area?
Creepin' mid 50's
@@Wired2Fish thanks!
Title says "weightless" tubes. Wrong. So wrong. This guy is a hammer though and always creates great content!
Much Appreciated man! I have explained in a few other comments that I fish this the same way I would with a plain EWG but I feel the weight on the shank helps with accurate casting. I still work the bait sub surface and the bait is still horizontal rather than nose diving as a light weight of any other sort would do. So yes, literally weighted but with no purpose of fishing at greater depths or changin the action. Just being able to lay it right on a root ball or reed clump with ease. Thanks again. Shoulda clarified in the video-
Why fishing weightless with a baitcaster???
Though you had was talking Amberjack
Can see how that would be confusing 😆
Check his music career too! Great songs about the northern outdoors!
Take this to the lake brother
This is a public lake with a boat access within a city limit.. Wish I could dull the pain for you and tell you it’s private but it ain’t.
Cmon
I’m assuming this is your reaction to realizing it’s a lake and not a pond but wishing it was a pond to justify the fact that at least 1 fish was caught.
Not really " weightless " if you're rigging it with a weighted hook . Just say'n
We cannot argue this but the principle is the same. No front heavy weight dictating the action. Weight is on there more so for castability.
You in a pond bro
Nope wrong again.
Bro you in a pond though
The lake is roughly 100 acres. Smaller lake but no pond.
Cool man but not exactly "weightless"
There is in fact a weight on the hook shank but for me it's more for castablity. The bait is still fished as you would a "weightless" tube. If you add say a small bullet weight to the front of the bait it totally changes the action.
Weightless????????
The weighted EWG is just for casting distance and accuracy. The tube is still worked subsurface as you would with a lighter hook.
So northern pike are called jacks, and weighted tubes are called weightless plastics? Got it.
I know it sounds fishy to call it weightless when it there is a weighted EWG involved but I still fish it the same way I'd fish one totally weightless. The weighted EWG is more so for castability than trying to fish it deeper. Even a light weight at the front of the bait kills that "weightless" action by making it nose heavy. "Weightless" I suppose refers to how it's fished. What else do you call that technique?? and yeah if you're from northern MN and/or have Canadian buddies it's hard to stop calling them Jacks. Thanks for commenting and tuning in Jacob!
