- "The federal government is seeing an even sharper decline in the number of small businesses that are new or recent entrants to the federal marketplace.
“That is a bit of a puzzle as to why, with even greater opportunity, there are fewer small businesses that are participating in the industrial base,” Sam Le, the director of Policy, Planning, and Liaison within SBA’s Office of Government Contracting and Business Development, said in an interview last week. “It’s any number of factors that we’ve identified at SBA and with agencies. We don’t think there’s one thing that has caused this to happen.”
Agencies since 2010 have seen about a 40% decrease in the number of small businesses receiving prime contract awards.
Over the same period of time, the number of small companies doing business with the federal government for the first time has decreased by about 60% - and over the past 15 years, new entrants have dropped by approximately 80%."

You are right Derek! And even when you purchase courses, there’s conflicting info provided. There’s a lot of sharks out there only looking for bait. I sensed your sincerity from the start and wanted to go with you but your team said you didn’t offer coaching so I went with the sharks. I became discouraged when they kept pushing me to bid before they taught me how to read a darn solicitation. Kept telling to call folks and reach out to people and to find out what I wanted to offer the government when I didn’t quite understand what I was so called learning. I will continue to study and stay focused though. It’s too many voices in this space and I can tell a lot of times it’s who you “know.” Complete bs! I will succeed in this space somehow. WOW, this is crazy for me to hear. It is true, I unfortunately am not able to do coaching because of my health condition this year it seems. It's so frustrating because I know what could happen in that instance. Not everyone in this space is a shark, but they are out there. And that's what I made this video to encourage everyone to be a bit more thorough and contemplative with what they hear. Although, I totally understand most don't know what they don't know so they put their trust in others to be their steward..it becomes a risk/reward scenario. I'm sorry you've had a poor experience, but trust yourself to be your guide, you can and will still do this if you stick to it.
We've submitted 10 middlemans in 1 month. Lost 7 of them already. It's been very demotivating since every won bid has been lower than any quote we've gotten. Debated getting onto other sites than SAM. Thank you for the words of encouragement,
I promise you don't need to get on other sites. You've only been bidding for 1 month. Don't make the shiny object mistake that others make. The site isn't the problem. There actually is no problem. You don't catch a fish everything you cast into the water. I don't know if you're bidding supplies or services, but I would stick to services. Remember: 10-20 you're in the money. But that equation only works if you improve with each and every bid. It's hard to improve when you're doing 10 at a time..so, maybe there's a handicap on your number because you did 10 in a short period, so say you're at 5 so far on the scale. I would recommend focusing on 3-5 service bids per month right now going forward in the busy season. This is a balance of quality and quantity. Try to really step back and look at what you did in June and do an analysis of what type of bids you should avoid going forward. Also, are there any ways you can be more competitive? The SUBS will lose the bid for you every time. Low hanging fruit is making sure THEY get their numbers down. They hear government contract and think big pockets. They must quote this like a commercial job. There should be site visits, q&a periods, that should be plenty to practice with and learn from to keep you very busy and improving, and maybe even winning.

Hello everyone. I actually was a student of Derek earlier this year. He is telling the truth. A lot of these other companies are scam artists. If you follow his method you will eventually start winning work. My schedule and still working a full-time job is holding me up from bidding. A solicitation that I'm interested in lists two FARS, then says to complete the FAR registrations. I asked the KO what does this mean, like to download and sign the FAR PDF? She won't give straight answer, just said the info for the FAR clauses have been updated. Then won't elaborate. Can you shed light on this requirement of completing FAR registration?

Yes, always PDF so changes can’t be made. Print and sign the SF1449 form. Can also sign cover letter if you’re using one.

Yes, so these people have been burnt before by crummy contractors who use and abuse subs for their numbers. You have to prove you are different. You have to eliminate the doubt in their minds. Start out by identifying the objections, then try to overcome them. They are once bitten twice shy. Some are too far gone and will be miserable to work with. I will leave it to you to discern the ones you can bring back VS the ones who are long gone. Always start with a discovery call with the intent to build a relationship with them. Don’t only ask for a number.
