If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

I love you guys, both of you. Despite brain fog, chemo brain, peripheral neuropathy, depression, and debt up to my neck - by listening and reading your advice, I am starting to regain hope. Thank you
I understand that your pains and troubles are very hard, unique, and hard for the average person to comprehend, however, keep doing your best. For brain fog, make sure to drink less caffeine and to hydrate properly. I spent 10 years making this mistake. I can't stress enough to take Magnesium (L-Threonate and or glyciniate), Potassium, and enough sodium if you already eat clean and less processed foods. Actually too much fluid will make you pee out all of your water-soluble vitamins - which all contribute to brain fog, depression, anxiety, pains, and more. You'd be surprised to find out just how many people are not properly balanced with their electrolytes, and just how amazing the results can be once leveled out. Some issues will be fixed over night, but for the full-effect results, this needs to be consistently treated.
Once those are settled, check vitamin D levels, then A, K, and E. (avoid any Soybean, canola, seed oil-ridden supplements, there's some in olive oil.)
I know my response is random, but if I can help in the slightest to make some of those physical/mental issues any better, then I believe it will help in other areas.
I recommend buying a good individual bulk of potassium citrate/gluconate, Mag L threonate(Magtein)& Glycinate, and a good calcium (don't over take). Trader Joes has a semi-decent calcium, mag, and zinc bottle which is better than nothing. I would generally avoid Magnesium oxide as it is not bioavailable. Make sure the brand is a good brand to accurately measure. Magtein is rather pure, Solaray makes a great glycinate
I am willing to bet that this will help a good sum. If you were like me and drink more than 4 cups to a pot of coffee a day for energy, stop that right now; get hydrated, increase electrolytes, and you'll have FAR more energy to last than what you'll get from caffeine; it's also very important to note that simply adding electrolytes isn't enough, you may have to reduce fluids in the event you are over-hydrating. Yerba mate is a good alternative to coffee if you need some caffeine.

This video is super helpful! I was curious if you were in charge of a government agency that is funded by taxpayer dollars how would you change that organization to run more efficiently when wages are low for employee’s budgets are set for you and you aren’t a for profit business?

This is what Warren Buffett does at a higher level. Every entrepreneur eventually transcends working in a business they buy and with all their capital, the next most rational business step is to simply buy large privately owned operating businesses for billions of dollars like BNSF or SEES CANDY etc.
Beyond that, when they run out of large private businesses to buy that can move their earnings needle materially (position Berkshire is now in) they must begin to buy pieces of the largest business in the world, Eg APPLE.
This is the pinnacle of business mastery. Buying entire public companies in full.

Watching this I understand a lot more about optimizing a business. The only caveat is I don’t have anything to sell 😅
That's actually a fantastic point though. The "perfect business" is actually a business which has a vastly superior product. That's what virtually everyone (including Alex) lacks.
This is a useful instructional video about optimising so-so products in hugely competitive marketplaces. ALL of the effort goes into marketing because the product itself isn't that great.
The alternative method is to put all your effort into making sure the product is superior. Be in love with the problem that the product solves for and focus on that endlessly. That then stands you apart from the competition, not Facebook ads that stop achieving results the moment you stop paying Facebook. Or salespeople who join the competitor just as easily as (Alex) hired them from a competitor.
@@sammyb1651 good point however even if your product is superior you still have to market it and sell it though the focus isn't on as much marketing if your product is superior.
@@conlawmeateater8792 For sure. Marketing is always an important discipline and will deliver rewards. The future will be more specialist though. We have 20th century legacy household brands that essentially don't stand for anything and are all mid range crap. Thats a relic from when you just had to go on TV and buy commercials for your soap powder. Those things have to be marketed to within an inch of their lives because they're unremarkable. Thats essentially what Alex is talking about when he's referencing Facebook ads and salespeople cold calling.
Gradually better quality products are being developed by people who care. The craft beer market is an example of that, because mid-range crap had driven standards through the floor. The taste/quality of a superior product literally spoke for itself.
These things are nascent at the moment but the growth will be organic/word of mouth rather than Facebook ads cold-calling etc. Cold calling is the hallmark of a "me too" product/service which is no better than it's competitor. It's a commodity and no more. Marketing then becomes the exponentially huge price you pay to stand out in a thankless race to the bottom.
