This is an awesome review! I’m currently using an M1 Nighthawk 4GX modern, wanting you bridge it to this router, do you have any recommendations or perhaps should get the MR200 model up to make the best use of the RT-AX88U? Love the quality Aussie product reviews keep them coming
Thanks for the video. Just what I needed.
Love asus routers! had my rt ac68u for 4 years. and support is still strong!
Soo, I was just randomly browsing youtube and I found this on the recommendation. I just played it and listened in background not until I heared about the merlin software for asus routers. I was intrigued and when I tried it, oh wow, what an upgrade, there are new features added on my router options, etc, amazing. My purchase of the AX86U seems very much worth it then, love it. you got one sub cuz of that, haha. thx.
A Full run down and features possible with the ASUS RT-AX88U bios interface would be great, AND apparently it would be the only one on the internet......cheers!
How is connection consistency on this router? I read a couple reviews saying that it has quite frequent interruptions/drops.
Yeah man, make a video going through everything on this thing!!!
You know what they say, if it doesn't look like a spider, you're not going to get best performance.
Hehe or an upside down crab
@Kristian Aldo nobody gives a shit
you all prolly dont give a damn but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Ben Raphael instablaster =)
This device uses USB 3.1 for a home NAS... What devices do you recomend. Can you do a video on doing a NAS with this router??? Please... Other, potential setups/uses would be of interested to me as well... I already put this on my buy list.
Should I get RT-AX86U or RT-AX88U? (Which is better?) Thanks!
Finally, didn't even expect to find a gt-ax11000 vs rt-ax88u in this video. These the routers I can't decide between.
Have they ever fixed the issues with wifi 6 routers dropping signal randomly? When I bought a Netgear AX8 8 stream a year ago, it was a large mistake and nothing but troubles.
Did you change any settings on the modem you added it to ive just brought this and Internet drops now and then any tips?
Thanks for the video mate. Nwy, contemplating about getting this or the ax6100 for our needs. My gaming laptop is at the basement. The laptop is the only device who can support wifi 6. What do you think is a better choice?
Go for this
i live in the UK in quite a rural area adn my current wifi avg around 9 - 13 mb/s and i rly wanna stream do you think this would boost my speeds even where i am?
Have you had any issues with it ? On the fence about buying
G'day mate, good job
I currently have the Asus RT-ac88u and I am wondering if this new Ax88u could handle up to 1gigmbs ?
Roughly how far in metres is it from you router to you back fence?
WiFi 6 it is! When I have the hardware to support it that is. I will say that having a WiFi 4 device causes issues with my WiFi5 network. When it's connected I get all kinds of weird quirks and drops. Oh well soon enough everything will be on WiFi 5/6 in my house hold. Thank you Tally Ho.
Welcome. I love it
Can you do a Wifi 6 vs. ethernet for gaming? Ping/Latency, etc? Cheers
Hi I have an ASUS RT-AX88U located at less than a meter (3 feet) from my sitting position. My PC (tower) is wired directly to the ASUS , and the wifi is only used a few hours daily by my wife. My question is how to stop the WIFI of the router to be in "OFF MODE" for most of the day ? I have tried to stop "Radio" in the '"Professional" (under wireless section). This shows the wifi light on the router showing in "RED" color, but at the same time my wired connection is not connected anymore. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Hi.. am currently using ac66u and noticed that AI protection is auto disabled when using dual wan-load balance feature.. how is it on AX88? Is it possible to run both load balance and AI protection?
Hi.. Is this router any good for IP Camera's? I bought a Netgear but couldn't connect my IP camera's to and Netgear told me their £300.00 router wasn't compatible. So i am in the market for a router i can connect my Wifi IP camera's too.
Are you still using this router or is there another model since?
Agree Asus are awesome! My last two routers have been Asus and you configure it, turn it on and then it's rock solid for years! Other brands you need to reboot every week or month, rubbish.
Agree ;)
have they fixed the auto connect for dual band, I have various 2.4G items that hate it so much I had to turn the feature off for them to connect reliably
Asus ATX56u also good WiFi 6 router too, Asus is well-known for its routers.
I wonder how much download speed I'll get with this router in my loft over wifi with 1Gb internet. Is this better than the RT-AX86U?
you use the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 to explain the AX88U transfer speed. very interesting.
Your Intro tune is really like Tokyo Hot , hahahahahah
Noice
will i see the differences if my devices are not compatible with wifi 6 yet? Note: currently im using wifi 5
Thank you for that Tally Ho Tech - looking at getting an ASUS Router, but my main priority is Controlling Access through Parental Controls, Block Out Undesirable Content and Apps, and Set Times for Access to certain Devices or Users to help prioritise Real Life.
How does the RT-AX88U fare there?
And with Wi-Fi 7 and 8 on the Horizon, how much Future Proofing can one get from this Router?
(I am not even sure that the UNITED KINGDOM will be ready for Wi-Fi 6, let alone 7 or 8...?
Should I even be concerned with Future Proofing in the UK? - It seems we are going to get stuck at Wi-Fi 5 due to the looming Global Depression)...
are you using a wifi6 pcie card? which one...?
Yep - about to order me one of these and assuming you are on FTTP as I am judging by the speedtest?
I get that speed with FTTN...
A big problem: no WPA 3 WiFi 6 USB 3.0 adapters. I own a RT-AX88U.
6:54, what kind of laptop/ wifi adapter it got there ?! the Wi-Fi 6 supposedly got 4.8 Gbps Bandwidth, while am fully aware u will never get really near to those speeds, u are supposed to get 40-50% THroughput, 1Gbps only is really slow ! I got a 7 year old 1.3 Gbps AC Router, and i easily get 700 Mbps throughput or 70 MB/sec, i think once AX routers are matture we should see at least 2-2.5Gbps throughput,,,,
This is the same router like the rt ac 88u. Asus just used the same plastic housing as the 2014 model
Bought this one too! I'm having 1 Gig fiber installed, and I want to get the most out of it even with the 2.4 GHz band. The cheaper ones would only get me 575Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, this router will give me 1148Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band!!
How did it perform? Thanks
@@CartelFund Also curious to know
Can you explain how to get a SONOS speaker working on this router? Having major issues trying to get it recognised. thanks
Been 2 months so you’ve probably fixed it, I bought a Sonos boost to solve the issues with WiFi
I bought the AX11000, and I'm not impressed. For $450, I expected much more performance than the r7800 I used to own. The router is located close to the middle of the house, and on the second floor, around 20-25 ft away in a straight line from the router, I do get 1-2 bars to my laptop. Tested wireless speeds on an intel AX201, and the max I can pull is high 400 mbps. This is with full bars on the laptop, on the 160 Mhz channel, AX only setting. Wired speeds are barely reaching 800 mbps, on a Gigabit connection. With gameboost enabled, I still seem to lag, and my ping seems to be the same as with the R7800. I just bought the X6000 and will be testing it, and hopefully, it meets expectations. As for the AX11000, I will be sending it back.
Any update on the AX6000?
as someone who just bought ax88u to extend my network range i can say you dont need it at all. No range improvement over my existing ac88u even tho asus claims 80% increase, my s10 battery haven;t improved because of wifi6 . The speeds have improved a bit in the same distance range that's all. Everyone serious about their speed will hard wire their desktop anyway where i really need my 1Gbps speeds, on my phone , tablet or my smartthings iot makes no difference if you have 300-400Mbps or 600-700Mps you get no benefit.
So yeah if you have a very old router and want to upgrade then it makes sense to get a wifi6 router but if you have an AC router then it makes no sense the extra money for that slightly speed improvement.
What else i can say about these?i have a medium size house, 2 floors, 120~ square meters each and the ac88u wasn't covering the entire house being in the middle of the second floor, my phone was struggling to keep connection at the 1st floor far away corners hence why i bought the ax88u for aimesh and trying to see how the electrician can hard wire both for better speeds.
I must say this is not your typical american wood house, is a new house with tons of concrete and the difference between floors is killing the router, the heating floor system adds another 10 cm of thin concrete too and the aluminium profiles from 1st floor false ceiling isn't helping either
PS wifi6E was just announced
the 8 ports sold me all other features notwithstanding
Why would you want this expensive rouer when your download speed is not even a gig? I mean I have a gig download and I can sew the difference on the AX6000 router. Also tried the NHRx80. Both are pretty much the same. On wifi I get 500 min but no less than 380 on S10+ thanks for the video
Do these high-end 'gaming routers' work with the Australian NBN?
It’s not a modem but you just run the NBN modem straight into the Wifi router. So yes
Great review...my question is if my current ISP plan is only 150 Mbps will wifi 6 still benefit me in terms of speed since wifi 5 can handle 150 Mbps? It's not like my speed will be greater than what my current ISP plan limits me right? Thanks.
Hey I know this is a two year old comment but I wanted to chime in - if your ISP has a max up/down speed hardware like this won’t force it to be faster. However, if you do a lot of home network work like locally hosting Plex or machine backups, absolutely worth it since everything in the home network will be able to utilize it.
Full review please
Is Good for Console Players?
I get around 700-900 mbps download speeds with ax88u
Don't forget that your devices must be compatible with Wifi 6 els you don't use the full speed of this great router
How much EM radiation is this thing pumping out compared to the older WiFi 5 units, I wonder...
It’s fine unless your close to it. The clients are the one you have to watch for
Hi sir, a question. if i use a AX88U and mesh with a AC88U as the second router, would I get wifi 6 benefit?
Not if switches to the AC88
@@TallyHoTech Thank you
i have the ac88u, if i buy this upgrade unit can i use aimesh to tie these 2 wifis together?
I will ask
Is there a usb card or pcie WiFi card for pc?
Yer they have em
Next video title: Put your router in a Faraday cage
Woooof
Turn your house into a microwave lol
Woof
*Cough* Wooooeeeffff *Cough*
I thought wifi6 caused corona virus... or is that just 5G and wifi6 cooks you from the inside?
@@knifeyonline this is just how technology advances. when electricity was announced everyone was against it and no one wanted to use BUT look where we are now :/
Wish Asus would put in a VOIP setup for phones gees is a bloody night mare trying to get the landline convetred over when the ISP has some shabby junk modem router built special for their system and the phone don't work 2 Degrees and Orcon are not nice to try and get working here in New Zealand, NOT paying 8, 9 hunred bucks for somit that don't cover ALL the base's
Don't believe everything you see about wifi 6, the speed transfer depends on you equipment not only wifi, I have a Unifi Dream Machine and the speed and cover is amazing even better that wifi 6
Its Mega BIT per second. Not BYTE.
ok so you get 100 megabytes per sec (800 mbits/sec) download. so technically not really getting even a gigabit down/up in real life scenerio. i'll keep my cat 6a gig ethernet. so even still with this new wifi6 it can't utilize my comcast gig connection....you gotta hit 125 megabytes / sec (1 gigabit/sec) on average to make hard core enthusiasts go this route. not happening.
Also what happened to your hack in Tosh video?
Apple 🍎
Tally Ho Tech did they take it down?
This really is the BEST router. HAs all the gaming chops but none of the gaming looks.
This video is just for advertising and not a professional speed testing.
The speed is very low.itd due to the ISP speed .wifi receiver speed and internal storage speed.
As i test for my own ac wifi router it's over 400Mbps or about.
Ok Bill Baz. Yer, so that’s 50MBps. Thats slow for even AC wifi. I can get 570mbps with AC and 800mbps AX.
test for mobile phone mate 20 pro with asus ac828.
the maxium up to 485 DL and 614 upload.
Oh come-on man! 94.6Mbps aint nothing!!! I can do 250Mbps on my Wifi 5 connection! I think it may have to do with your ISP and/or your slow mechanical harddrive!
WOOF!
This could 15x my wifi speed in speed test
Woof.
🐶
Meow
Wow bro your ISP speed... Is horrible.
That’s true
"I noticed better battery life Even if i have a wifi 5 device" That's just a pathetic lie. That sentence there made you lose all credibility. Ok bye
