Thanks for sharing - its the first vid I've seen where someone walks you through the setup process - its really helpful to know the setup process is that straight forward before committing to purchase to router - thanks again.

      Hi L,
Thanks for your comments it does mean a lot to me and I am glad you found it helpful.
I love it when there is a simple three-step process that goes Step 1 Set it up! Step 2 use the thing! Step 3 See the results!!!
What I want to know is how many steps are in step 1 let alone steps 2 and 3!!!! They might as well say 2 Step process, Step 1 use it, Step 2 buy the new version nest year.
All the best and keep well

@@BrenTeckITSupport It was really useful. I took the plunge and bought the router. I turned my VM hub to modem only and followed your steps in the video and everything is working great apart from two issues.
      1. The router says it can't see the update server to download the firmware and I should do it manually.
      2. My daughter's Samsung s5 phone seems to disconnect a lot. She mainly plays games though.
I probably should separate the 2.4 and the 5 and see it that solves the issue.
It's a great router and you made a great video. I'm glad I watched! Thank you again! Best regards L

      @@LA-mg7rv Hi L,
Glad you got one and set it up well done.
      1. Try the date-time settings,
Go you your router IP 192.168.1.1 probably and login
      Click Administration
      Click System
      Then check under basic settings.
      2. I would keep 2 and 5 g together and have a separate 2g guest network for older devices or ones that only support 2g such as smart home tech, I found that to be best.
      Kind regards and keep well.

@@BrenTeckITSupport Hi there! I logged into the router and selected 'Administration' and then 'System'. The time zone seems to be set to (GMT, Lisbon, London, etc.).
I still cannot get the router to check for updates. When I select the 'Check' button the following message is displayed 'The router cannot connect to ASUS server to check for the firmware update. After reconnecting to the Internet, go back to this page and click Check to check for the latest firmware updates.'
It's really strange because everyone in the house can access the Internet with no issues using the router.
I have a VM router in Modem Mode with a network cable attached from port 1 on the VM modem to the WAN port on the Asus Router.
I wonder if I have the router Operation Mode setup correctly - it is currently showing as 'Wireless router Mode (default)'.
I wonder if it should be setup in 'AP Mode'?
      Kind regards

      @@LA-mg7rv Hi L,
Ok, all your settings sound good to me.
If you have not tried doing a reboot of the ASUS rooter do that and try again. I bet you have but its worth a final try. before contacting ASUS Support.
Mine is working but I have a funny feeling Dad's did this last time I checked after I updated his. I will have a check next time I go over. It could be a misleading message for your update. It might be meeting that its the latest. You could try a manual update by going to there site and downloading it to your computer then updating using that file.

I would say go for the Asus AX88U amzn.to/33cFQdI I love the router and can not fault it. So stable and reliable.
I have not tried the eerp pro so I can not say what they are like.
Using the AX88U will also give you remote ethernet ports if you need to cable anything in.
Let us know what you decide.

I plan on purchasing another RT-AX88U and not using a wired backhaul. Is that an option? Also, if yes, is there a certain recommended distance the second router should be placed from the primary?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Flightsxablaze
Yea you can have the backhaul over WiFi. Their recommended distance is based on signal strength, not the distance as there are too many variables for a measurable distance. You want to place the 2nd router fare enough away from the first that it will increase your overall range but keep in so it gets a good single, a fun game to play fine the sweet spot. You can use your phone to work out where you still get good WiFi single either just buy using your WiFi indicator or use an app like play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
I hope this helps, sorry for the delay but I have been very busy over the last month.

Hi there. Got Virgin Media 500mb and think of getting this to replace the Virgin router to supply better Wi-Fi to the house. May eventually get a second to use as AiMesh Network upstairs (converted bungalow attic room). Good option you think?

      Hi Burak,
Yes the RT-AX88U amzn.to/34VwiUa would be perfect for you. Depending on the size, construction of the rooms and position of the router it may give you full coverage buy its self.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport

      Hi Mysterious,
In theory yes, you can and it should be exactly the same as in the video, nice and simple. Before you do anything make sure you have a backup of all settings from both routers. I would use the AX88U as the main router and the GT-AC5300 as the node. The reason for it is I found the GT-AC5300 so unstable I gave up on it and can not recommend this model. Perhaps as a node, it might work as not handling DHCP which is what kept failing on all the ones I had.
Have you seen my video about the GT-AC5300 ua-cam.com/video/TTzKTsami_g/v-deo.htmlt or just my review at the end 17:08 ua-cam.com/video/TTzKTsami_g/v-deo.htmlt=1028
I would love to know how you are finding both routers.
Please let us know how you get on and hope you subscribed.
      Kind regards
      David

@@BrenTeckITSupport the AX88U seems to work fine whereas the AC5300 is being a headache to work with 😩 both can connect through WAN PPPOE/VLAN IPTV, as that's the settings I have to use for my ISP connection. I have trouble searching for the Aimesh node (AC5300). Both have the latest firmware. I've factory reset the AC5300 multiple times, changed the operating mode to Aimesh Node, and still nothing shows up 🤔 everytime I change it over to Aimesh Node, the WAN settings are changed to Auto IP too. Unless that's normal. I need help on a better understanding of this set up and how it works, I've watched other videos on this matter too, still doesn't work for me 🙏 I live in New Zealand and I use Fibre broadband using a ONT/CPE box that is installed on the wall which connects to my router using a LAN cable to the back of the ASUS WAN. So at the moment I can't use any LAN connection for VLAN/PPPOE. I've done some research and it seems ASUS routers do not support VLAN tagging for LAN, only WAN.

      @@Your_Delusiona1 Hi Mysterious,
I am sorry to hear you are having problems with the AC5300 but not surprised that it is giving you a headache, I gave up on it and sent mine back! If it is new I suggest you do the same but if it is 2nd hand or out of warranty, try and put Merlin asuswrt on it www.asuswrt-merlin.net/, everyone has recommended it. It is very simple just download it and use update firmware and use the saved file. I will be doing a video on this. I am using it on one AX88U and it seems to be great so I will be putting it on others when I make the video.
When you set up a node yes the WAN will be set to Auto IP as it needs to get the IP of the primary Router and if it changes so will the WAN IP as far as the node goes.
      So my advice is:
      1. Return the AC5300 and replace it with a 2nd AX88U if possible.
      2. Change the firmware of the AC5300 to Merlin asuswrt www.asuswrt-merlin.net/
      3. Use the AX88U as a gateway router ie a normal setup and add a Ubiquity AP AC Pro to it, you can get one from Amazon amzn.to/2Zi2z5D you will need to install the controller software on a computer for setup and management but not to run it.
I have moved all my network over to Unifi now and finding it even better than the AX88U but it is a more complicated setup so not for beginners. Again I am be doing a series on Unifi setup at the moment.
Let us know how you get on.
      All the best

      Hi Samlol
If you are talking about the RT-AC66U B1* then yes with the firmware update. *For your router's full model name, please check the sticker at the back of your router.
For lists of compatible routers, you can look at www.asus.com/Microsite/AiMesh/ea/ and www.asus.com/Networking-IoT-Servers/Whole-Home-Mesh-WiFi-System/All-series/filter
Please double-check versions numbers as I know this makes a big difference with AiMesh.

Ps just updated the firmware on my 88ax. Hope it corrects the awful issue I've had since it was new: every time the router loses power or restarts, all my port forwarding info disappears. Gone. Poof. I only know when I go to check my cams remotely and they aren't there. Nuisance.

      @@Samlol23_drrich Hi Samlol
I normally do a restart after making changes to make for they are saved and active. When setting static IP address you must do a restart to activate the change. So nothing should be lost when there is a power cut or reboot. Hope the firmware update fixes this for you. Always make a backup of your settings before and after making any changes that way you can always restore them.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

@@BrenTeckITSupport thanks. I appreciate that. The new firmware does have a "save " button under the port forwarding area that was missing in the last firmware so I'm hoping it works. Hi I just bought an ax88u, not got it yet. I am interested in the aimesh but not sure if I really need it. If I do it will be for the kitchen or garden on sunny days. Think something like the ax56u is enough for that stuff? others on the web seem to get two powerful routers but I just want like a cheap node or something. any suggestions? Appreciate the reviews!

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Elliot,
It's a good question but a complicated answer, as it all depends on your unique situation of building construction, layout and purpose.
As you have already ordered the AX88U this is an excellent start for any home or small business.
Set up the AX88U and see how it goes, it might be enough to cover everything!
If you have dead spots then yes using something like the AX56U amzn.to/347GA3x might help using AI Mesh. I have not tried the AX56U so can not say how well it will work. The specs look ok, not great but if it's just for one or two devices over Wi-Fi in a dead spot it should be fine. You might like to consider the AX58U amzn.to/32Sini1 a bit more but faster, again I have not tried it.
Personally, I would go for a second the AX88U amzn.to/2G26pJT as I know it is a great bit of kit but budget and what it's going to be used for is a serious consideration due to the high cost.
If you are happy to run some ethernet cable then a reliable budget option is run a cable and use and old rooter with all advance fetchers turned off so it acts like a switch and Wi-Fi access point.
I hope this helps, thanks for watching and for your comments, let us know how it goes.
      Kind regards and keep well
