Snagging for Paddlefish at Meldahl Dam on the Ohio River. Follow Kentucky Afield on Twitter / kentuckyafield or search Kentucky Afield on Facebook and become a fan.
What doesn't make sense is that as far as I know right in the other side of the river in Ohio it's illegal to snag anything. It could've changed since I last read it though
Sanagging a dying salmon is different ,a paddlefish is more on the line of snagging a sturgeon, its a dinosaur and should be left alone or use tags so they don't get overfished which is possible in some areas
jmy they are tagged here in Oklahoma you can only keep 2 a year and they have to be checked in with your license number as far as i know everywhere they have to be checked in so this comment is kinda useless
In some areas, snagging for salmon is legal, In some areas its not, its why there are regional laws, just like you cant hunt for deer with high power rifles but in the south you can.
Paddle fish should not be handled by the gills. There is no bone in them, and you can tear the underlying meat and cartilage. They can actually die from being handled that way. I know, I know, how else you gonna handle them? . . . . carefully
BG Design and Soultions it's dead man! can you not see the cut that goes all the way up the gills? regardless tho holding any fish vertically by the gills or jaw is unhealthy and potentially life treatening
WHY! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? I have fished on most major rivers, all great lakes, 3 oceans, sharks, salmon, tuna, you name it but I only snagged intentionally once when it was legal for salmon in 70's. Real fair. Just use dynamite or shock 'em. Again, WTF? Ever hear of "foul hooked?"
Such a beautiful fish!!
Great videos
aka Foster Dam because its near Foster KY.. Good fishing there and haven't been there since my childhood.. thanks for posting this one...
Harold Cale You've probably heard by now but they just built a fishing pier up there. Apparently it's pretty good
some time ago I heard but didn't know when or what year it would be finished... thanks for the info
@@Sticky_Ricky I should go check it out
you sound like a serious cat fisherman whats your biggest catch/snag
i caught a paddle fish when i was 12 at a dam on the ohio in Louisville. Felt like it was going to pull me in.
Did they say why you are limited on how much you can eat of it? Or it's it just number of fish you can catch there?
They are some FINE eatin fish.
22ratshot why did he say you could only eat so much can you get sick if you eat to much
I'm not even sure I've ever heard of them
same here in MN.

No its that way currently.
I dont like snagging its a lazy way to fish
@@fishinghippie958 nothing lazy about snagging.
Don't understand why they'd want to.
I cought a 32lbs spoon bill cat fish about 23years ago
I thought snagging rods could not be any longer than 7.5 ft.
in WV snagging is illegal and so is fishing for protected paddle fish
archeryman5000 that's why there are plenty in Kentucky. This is barbarism, not fishing.

In Arkansas
I need one for a fish tank
In Ohio they are protected as a threatened species and must be released if captured.

556 man low water dam wAs a good spot
What does he mean by "safely" eating paddlefish 6 times a year
1grandmasterj I think its the amount of mercury in the fish
That's what I wanted to know.. I didn't know mercury was a issue in fresh water fish.
He actually means legally
@ruthgarcia197 no he meant its only safe to have 6 servings a year because of pollutants and mercury in the fish
Catch huge live bighead carp fish, please shoot video to show

BG Design and Soultions How is he suppose to eat them if he doesn't kill them? Haha

This isn't very sportsman like. Its like shooting a deer out of your truck window.
Snagging: The most gay way to catch a fish that you don't need to catch.
hertzer2000 wholeheartedly agree sir
But they taste good
Sick and disgusting.
You should be ashamed of using such barbaric methods to catch what is already a vulnerable species.
What an unGodly way to rip a fish up while catching it. You dont need this! You're just blood thirsty. What a jerk.
Must be one of those fly fishing democrats
Von Vomit you probably don’t even know how to fly fish.
