Wooden Flat Bottom boat float trip

- Skipper Tim Farmer believes the fish never saw him coming. Painted in vivid camouflage and floating quietly as driftwood, the KY AFIELD 09 the flat-bottomed boat assembled on the show in October makes its maiden voyage. Angler Chris Godby joins Farmer in Pulaski County for the crafts first stream fishing trip. Diagrams and a replay of the construction video are available on the Kentucky Afield television page at fw.ky.gov

Thanks for watching!
It was interesting to watch this boat being built and the paint job is excellent. Kentucky is great!
Lived in Kentucky when I was a child, near a creek just like this one. We moved back to Puget Sound when I was 7, but this video brings it all back.
My brother and I have talked about visiting for years. 'Bout time we did, I guess.
Thanks for the upload!
That boat looked HUGE when it was being built!
right!
I love the boat. I’ve owned 3 wooden, flat bottom boats in my life, built 2 of them. I like this design, if i ever (and i may) build another one, I’ll use a couple of ur techniques on it. Love that paint job also 👍🏻😊
If that splinter barge was built in Texas it would have a 350 CID. air-boat motor mounted on top, lol !!!
Nice job!
I haven't talked to Tim in several years, looks like he his still having fun!!
Happy for you to be able to retire; miss you Tim ; God bless you and your family.
Hey great project, I built one like this some 35 years ago. It was the only boat I could afford at the time and this project sure has brought back some terrific memories.
Thanks Guys
PS: Interesting piece of music, what's the title?
I have a 12 ft. Jon boat, when fishing shallow streams, we use 2 kayak paddles. Works great, would here too...
Nice boat, Nicer music, Marie Elena just beautiful
Nice boat. Id have to put some higher sides on it just to give me the peace of mind that leanin to far wasnt gonna flip me, but Im thinkin about makin me one. Thanks yall.
Hey Tim, nice to meet another Farmer. Don't know any else outside my family.
Just a Couple States Below in SC, Doin the same thing.
Have a Good One bud

you know, i chose this video because i thought it was about the boat floating. i didn't know it was going to be a sightseeing tour. lovely vistas, but i was more interested in seeing the boat.
Cant wait till April to get back on the kyack and hit the river...Im ready for some smallies!
Great job! What kind of paint did you use?
floating down the creek.... in a bookcase
I like the simplicity of the build (I did watch the build video). But they don’t look comfortable at all sitting and it looks too wobbly to stand. I won’t mention the apparent lack of any directional control. The paint job is awesome though.
Looks perfect to me .
I've told many people that a jonboat is basically a box - if you can build a waterproof box you can build a jonboat. I would have preferred more freeboard (the 8 ft jonboat I built is wider and has 16 inch sides)
Looks like a piece of crap. Go buy an aluminum john boat or get a kayak. Theres no way they rowed that boat back to the launch point. That thing is a plywood barge. I've seen better cardboard boats built by middle schoolers.
At least in Kentucky, you can hunt and fish on the same trip. There are actually states that make you pick one or the other for theday.Believe it or not.
Nice!!!
Turn this thing upside down and it would be a good roof for a small shed.
No.
I priced it to build one exactly like this one with all new materials from local Lexington box stores and $250 is a little optimistic. Granted, I normally price things out on the high side and then go to local lumber yards and negotiate, but still. following post is a materials list with prices.
Perty little rig you got there. What do you reckon it weighs?
I wonder if the bottom rails were painted.
Sure wish they would have showed the painting process.
How long did it take before the moisture cure urethane glue started cracking?
Hey could you by chance give me a list of materials you used. I love the outcome of your project and am looking to make one for my grandpa. It would be great if you could give me the list of supplies so I can create a budget. Thanks!
going to build my a boat. not sure if it will be made of wood or metal but it will be a ton cheaper
did you use anything to water proof it? or is it just the glue that hold it in place?
How much does it weigh? Got to be too heavy for one man to carry.
Great video. I would have layed that front out some and left some room for a trolling motor in the back though. What are the laws on registering a boat that is home built? I didnt see anything on yours.
Kyle Johnson usually if there’s no motor is like a canoe or a kayak
@@joshlower1 if you run a trolling motor it will have to be registered in Kentucky
Did you see the Bigfoot at 1:02 on the hillside behind those trees? Freaky!
got to have them life jackets and camo on in 12 inches of water
If they didn’t, the health and safety bods would have a field day, and some numpty would go and injure themselves and blame these guys for their own stupidity
At six foot wide it would be twice as stable and float higher. Three times better boat for one more measly piece of plywood!
What kind of paint?
Teknenin burun kismi biraz daha yukari kalkmaliydi ve on cok duz oldu.
What river was this?
Can you put a small gas motor on this? How many HP do you think it would handle?
Thanks for the info
ken stop talking to yourself
lol not sure what happened to the post I was replying to but, but when I do talk to myself I don't do it online just when I am home and I can carry on a good conversation with out be interrupted.
LMAO; That's a good one , I'm gonna steal that one and use it on somebody else when the opportunity presents itself, lol !!!
You can use WoodPrix, it has the best handbooks and ready instructions. You can learn much from them and make it yourself.
Just a dumb Canuck here... you guys are hunting squirrel??? What do you hunt squirrel for? food???
Very well done build. But what is the background song?
Did you ever find out the title of the background music. Pretty sure its Chet Atkins but don't know the title!
MusicIsDead69 the song is called "Marie Elana" but I don't think it's Chet Atkins. I may be wrong. It's a well known song that has been recorded by many artists. Jim Reeves had a nice version of it.
SUPER,,SUPER,,SUPER
how much did the flat bottom boat cost
Like to build me a 16 footer like this 20" sides. 4 foot wide. And put a lil 20 horse on it.
Don't rock that boat. At 42" wide, about 8" or 10" deep, and two grown men in it....
Just lay some plywood across a big slab of Styrofoam,...and call it good.
How much weight does this thing take?
They have 3 adult males in that one with several shotguns, fishing gear, camera gear... so I'm guessing quite a bit.
💩👍
A good cheap little rig"
silicon caulk will help seal it
L💅 🦊
God created some beautiful places in the world but the majority of them are now littered with broken glass and other garbage
It's not a boat. More
like lunch box or something.
No epoxy resin? No fiberglass cloth? WhAaaaA?!!
Jon Hohensee it aint for the open sea.. just for fishin on a quiet lake or stream
And...?
Jon Hohensee I agree where's the resin fiberglass this thing is missing so much but the concept is ok I guess someone can just plan something out and build a good skiff definitely way better
George Rodriguez you should see some of the square coroplast one-sheet boats I've fished the Missouri put of...lol
Okay, I'm going to say it, because in spite of the over all rosy nature of the comments, we were ALL thinking it: Your craftsmanship is good, but your design is lackluster. There is no practical bow to that boat, nor is 3° enough taper for the sides. You are paddling a (very well constructed) crate!
I believe in your method of construction, now go make a video where you make a boat, not just a floating object. Specifically: taller sides, with more taper, and a meaningful upsweep to the bow. You know...a boat.
I really did enjoy the build video, and the float trip video, but this craft is below your ample ability.
That's the way most jonboats are built - basically a box. Usually built of aluminum and costing $2000, they're still glorified boxes.
