Great video and great fish! I just subscribed….I started my own UA-cam fishing channel a couple of months ago (I’m in Tulsa) and I really enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work!
A great rod to use for snagging is a flex meat hunter 12 foot they are a more pricey rod work great and a yf10,000 reel is a 30 or so reel super strong reel with 65 to 80 pound braid cost around 160 to 200 hope this helps
I just found a big like 10 or 9 foot pole I’m garage and none of my family is claiming it so it’s mine now I’m gonna put a new bait caster on it with some 80 pound braid I just bought
Well honest question I’ve bought a decent I mean high end rod and reel that’s 7 foot but it’s a beefy rod. But where I’m snagging the spillways around aren’t 40 yards wide. I live near small towns.
How often fo you guys catch them during the summer months? I went during late spring and caught a bunch and want to go back it was a heck of a good time
Old video so I don’t expect to get a response, but in the event I do my question is what are your thoughts on casting reels? Specifically the Abu Garcia 6500’s
I have used casting peen reels in the past. I have never tried a Abu myself. The peen I used worked great. Only downside was the line retrieve rate is much slower than a 8000 spinning reel. Snagging is a lot of long casting and reeling. The faster the retrieve rate, the faster and easier it is to reel up the slack after every pull, and you won't get tired as fast. The Abu will work for sure just may be more tiring. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment.
They don’t bite.. they open their mouths wide like a whale and swim around inhaling plankton. You can’t throw plankton on a hook, so the only way to get them is snagging
how often do you snag other species while fishing like this? also do you ever snag any with soars and damage due to being snagged before?. please dont take this to be offensive just curious.
Yes you will snag other fish not as often as you would think and mostly catfish, carp or gar. Just this season (Jan15- present) our non target fish catch has been about 5 or so and that was carp and gar with one catfish. You will also hit other fish that have been hit before but with barbless hooks the damage is not bad most the time just a small hole.
Is snagging the only way to catch these fish they don’t feed on nothing particular to actually bite bait in a hook and catch them the normal way just asking and wondering is all cause all I’ve ever hear is snagging
@@damfishingaddicts6619 yes I figure that they swim mouth open just filtering particles kind like some shark species do 10/4 thanks for reply back I kinda assumed that just don’t have them around east Texas on Rayburn lol
Just caught one yesterday, BEST. FEELING. EVER. Never seen one before my whole life let alone being the one to catch it

Any changes in gear or exceptions for snagging from up on dam wall ??
How often fo you guys catch them during the summer months? I went during late spring and caught a bunch and want to go back it was a heck of a good time
You can catch them all summer but will be mostly small 15lb and under pups. The larger males and females will go back to the lakes
Hello I live in Arkansas and I haven’t been able to catch spoonbill despite many tries any spots like dams in Arkansas just anything will help

What about the white river in Arkansas

@@damfishingaddicts6619 100% more tiring lol I can confirm, but I just snag for bait for catfish. Thanks!
What is the line and lure rating on the 10 footers you use?
The boy's and I really needed this video! Thank you so much
What do you think of the penn warfare 30lw for snagging?
I hated it. Blew it up after 3 fish. The Penn squall is the way to go. John uses them and they are awesome.
Any thoughts on the daiwa bg reels?
love the bg 8000
At Horn lake is the best
I got a 12 foot rod but not a good reel
Do they not eat? Why is everything I find about snagging how do you get them to bite
They don’t bite.. they open their mouths wide like a whale and swim around inhaling plankton. You can’t throw plankton on a hook, so the only way to get them is snagging
What is the weight of the rods? They seem pretty sturdy
Medium heavy to heavy meathunter rods

@@damfishingaddicts6619 thanks for your response. tight lines
That sounds awesome if Incan catch gar and cats
Are the snagging poles only for Paddle fish?
No no one as of right now makes a snagging pole all of them are catfish or surf rods.
What brand of rods?
we use slimecat and meat hunter the black and camo rod in the video is a prototype rod.

Who makes the 10500
It's a penn spenfisher
In your opinion what size/sex are the best spoonbills to keep to eat?
Honestly I do not eat them. I have heard that the ones under 50 lbs are best.
Is snagging the only way to catch these fish they don’t feed on nothing particular to actually bite bait in a hook and catch them the normal way just asking and wondering is all cause all I’ve ever hear is snagging
They feed on small microscopic plankton. Snagging is the only way.
@@damfishingaddicts6619 yes I figure that they swim mouth open just filtering particles kind like some shark species do 10/4 thanks for reply back I kinda assumed that just don’t have them around east Texas on Rayburn lol
Snagging is not fishing .. legal or not
@@jakecornett5083 teach me about this I don’t fish
The female 's a the best because you can eat there eggs
35 yards🤦🏼♂️💀
Tiger poles suck
Love your videos! nothing funner than snagging in my opinion. Are you guys on Facebook?
It is a blast and yep we do have a fb for the group
