Hi Julie & Martin A great bit of security kit for the boat, really like the fact that it can be powered by solar We would like to wish you both a fantastic new year and look forward to your adventures in 2024 Take care the both of you Jane & Martin.
We have a umber of cameras in our house and I added one outside too. I can't use the motion alarm on the outdoor one as it gets set off by cats, squirrels, civet cats, monkeys, birds, passing car lights at night (but no the cars due to distance) and if there is a breeze (rare here), swaying plants/bushes. Even one of the cameras indoors gets triggered if a police car with blue lights flashing drives past at night. (Ambulance with red lights doesn't trigger it). Just things to consider if you start getting multiple alarms through the night.
Hi, with this camera you can set it to ignore animals and cats and only detect people, so thankfully we can avoid the false alarms 👍 we’ve just had one storm with 50mph winds and higher gusts and have another storm coming in this afternoon and thankfully bushes and trees won’t trigger it either. Not sure where you’re watching from, but you mention monkeys etc and no breeze (sounds idyllic) so assuming you’re not in the UK lol. Have a fantastic New Year! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIBI think yours is higher tech than our cameras. Watching your vlog the 2 of us automatically thought of Johnny No. 5 too. Actually, I retro fitted one of our cars with s camera system that gives 360 degree coverage all round the car that can be recorded and/or shown on the stereo screen in the car. If I am a SIM card it can be transmitted to a server/handphone too - including alerts. It is more for use while driving, so lacks most of the features of your camera, but the 4 cameras it uses are so small and unobtrusive. If you didn't know they were there you wouldn't spot them at all. It would be nice to develop a similar system for narrow boats. Nobody would know to have a bag or can of spray paint handy. Is your camera low enough to be safe from bridges and tunnels or will you have to remember to lay it down at times? Also, can it become part of your camera set up for material for your vlogs? You might catch certain wildlife on screen (not on alarm, you've already addressed that) that your forward facing camera may miss. Put 2 of these camera up and you would have a full 360 degree coverage - then sell it to Google to add to their maps street view! You ask where we are. For now the answer is Malaysia. Still planning for eventual retirement back to UK - and with a desire for that to be on a narrow boat. Budget and immigration rules for my wife are the key factors for now. Our son works in UK, so we want to be near him by some point. For this reason we particularly like seeing the vlogs that cover the good, the bad and the ugly parts of boat life as well as any covering the costs and savings compared to life ashore. Happy new year and we are both looking forward to seeing your 2024 vlogs. We did send Christmas and New Year greetings along with saying we are Tim and Jalika in Malaysia, but since changing my notebook some months ago my UA-cam account name became an unintelligible string of rubbish instead of my name and I don't seem to be able to change it, so no surprises that you did not recognise it. Happy New Year to both of you.
@@user-xw6wj2qh5n hi Tim & Jalika! You’re right, we didn’t realise it was you! We may try the camera when cruising to see what we get 👍 Hopefully too, we’ll get to meet up on the cut one day! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIBHappy New Year! We should be in UK at least a couple of times before we get to the stage of committing to a boat or otherwise. If we happen to be in the right part of the country we'd love to buy the two of you a meal and get your views on a number of canal life issues over a chat.
Hi Tom, do you mean the magnetic pole mount for the aerial, if so, it’s something like this one, we got ours from a chandlers, but these on Amazon are the same thing, hope this helps! amzn.to/4alEpdf Thanks Tom xx

Hi Julie & Martin, Can you provide details of the items you used for the mount please, I’m struggling to find similar items. Love the videos. Tom🙂
