If you’re new to our channel, just a little introduction. We are Julie and Martin and in 2021 we sold our house and gave up our jobs, to live full time on a narrowboat. We bought our 2004 narrowboat Rhapsody in Blue in the September and have been living full time onboard ever since. We hadn’t intended on vlogging, but recorded videos for ourselves and family and it has escalated into the weekly vlogs you see today, so lovely to have you all onboard! ❤️
Please join us as we continuously cruise the inland waterways of the UK, sharing our cruises and adventures with you all, thank you! ❤️
We’ve made a few playlists for you too, one with all our favourite cruises, one of our River Nene adventures, and the other is all our vlogs from the beginning, so you can binge watch to see where we’ve been so far! There’s also a walk through of our narrowboat home too, come inside and see how we live. ❤️

I absolutely love Nicky!
Aww that’s lovely to know, I’ve passed your comment on to Nikki, as we’ve just met up again with her for the winter, so look out for her in future vlogs! Thank you! xx
Relax time 😊, get away from the worldly noise and watch one of your videos 😊
Aww that’s lovely to hear from you Bob, so glad you’re enjoying our videos! Thank you! xx
BEST PART WAS MARTIAN AND THE FROG!!❤🎉❤🎉
😂😂🤣 yes that frog was a bit lively wasn’t it! 🤣 xx
Hi guys, I really enjoyed this wonderful video. I love the cooking section, even though it makes me hungry every time.😂😂 It's so amazing how you can just stop, and set up camp at a mooring when ever you find a nice place. It looks like there's one thing about owning a narrow boat that's the same as owning a house. there's always something that needs doing. Martin does an exceptional job with the maintenance on Rhapsody, it really is a credit to you both just how beautiful the boat is presented. Oh well I'm back off to reality now, at least until your next video where I can dream. Stay safe guys.👍🏻👍🏻❤❤
Hi Geoff, yes you’re right, there’s always something that needs doing on a boat, it’s a never ending list of jobs lol 😂 Thank you for your lovely comment! xx
What a wonderful vlog, I thoroughly enjoyed it. 👏 Julie your pasta salad and homemade bread looked very tasty, thanks for sharing the recipes. Martin your love for Rhapsody In Blue really shows with all the care you give her. Take care 🤗❤️
Aww thank you for the lovely compliments Donna, both recipes are really easy! Martin does do a good job doesn’t he, thanks! xx
You both certainly sell narrowboat life. I love your content! x
Aww glad you’re enjoying it Howard, thank you! xx
What a wonderful vlog. Top job with the seats and the bread wow! Beautiful mooring, absolutely living your best life ❤️
Hi Claire, we really loved that mooring! Thank you so much for your lovely compliments too! xx
Very interesting video 🎉. A good variety of content instead of just cruising along. Thank you for sharing your life. You obviously enjoy cooking and the bread looked lovely, bet it smelled nice whilst cooking!! Lovely couple of relaxing days doing little jobs. Stay safe. 🙋🙏👍🛥️
Hi Jennifer, glad you enjoyed joyed it, the bread was lovely, I couldn’t believe how well it turned out! Thank you! xx
That area was so peaceful and green! Martin with the frog was quite the laugh and I enjoyed seeing him do maintenance on the narrow boat. That tunnel was sure wet, and I bet that frog would've felt at home in there!
Hi Joyce, that frog was very lively wasn’t it! And that mooring was just perfect, exactly what we like! Thanks Joyce! xx
My husband and I love thunderstorms as well! We had lots of thunderstorms this summer which was really nice! Thanks for another lovely vlog, you guys. I’m getting hungry now after all your delicious food 😂
Hi Nancy! We were really disappointed that we didn’t get the thunderstorm, it just rolled around us and then went away, never mind, at least we stayed dry lol! 😂 Thanks Nancy! xx
Will do 🤞🤞🤞
👍xx
The view when you came out of the tunnel was wonderful. Lovely mooring area, definitely a place to visit again.
Oh yes, we’ll definitely be back there! Thank you! xx
Good choice on the umbrella! That's a downpour in there. Parting ways is always sad but your paths will cross again somewhere down the canal for sure. The bread looked wonderful. I eat a lot of bread and cheese. If you have that you then you have the basics of a meal. ❤
Hi Dorothy, oh yes, that umbrella was a great choice, it was literally raining in there lol 😝 I couldn’t believe how well the bread turned out, it was yummy! Thank you Dorothy! xx
Hey Guys, great vlog ❤ I bet Finn was looking and waiting for you both the first time Nicky moored up. I’m sure you will meet again soon. Have a blessed week 🙏
Forgot to say that bread was the best home baked loaf I have seen for a long time!
Aww Finn is lovely, but it won’t be long before we see them again xx
Aww thank you, I couldn’t believe it myself, the bread was better than I could have imagined! Thanks Vicky! xx
How absolutely beautiful and peaceful; it makes you realise the meaning of the expression 'Heaven on Earth'! Very drippy tunnel - but that just adds to the adventure 😊. Thank you Julie and Martin for allowing me to join you remotely on your travels; I cannot understand why your subscribers don't total thousands more!
Oh thank you Jill, it’s lovely to have you onboard! Lovely words, thank you so much! xx
I can really see why you loved that amazing mooring, just my cuppa tea too. Love your videos, a really good mix of music, fun and facts. All the best to you both NB Time to Pootle xx
It really was a beautiful mooring! Speak soon Kerry! xx
Another lovely video Julie & Martin. What a lovely spot you moored up in. It looked so peaceful.
Your pasta salad and homemade bread looked delicious. Kenny said he’ll have the heel next time. 😂
PS I’d be the same as you with the frog! 😝I can cope with spiders and snakes but I’m squeamish when it comes to frogs and toads.
Take care you two. xx
Hi Phyllis & Ken, hope you’re both well 🥰 I couldn’t believe how well that bread turned out, it was delicious! Kenny is welcome to the noggin, would be lovely to see you both, but even though we are on our way north, you’ll still be so far away 😏 That frog was lovely wasn’t he, but oh no, can’t deal with spiders!! Speak soon! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB Haha! Noggin! I love it. 😝💞
😂😂
The stool Martin is doing the boards on reminds me of a stool my dad got when I was small ,I used to sit on. I think it was a little smaller but loved it . Thankyou.
Aww lovely memories! xx
Thank you both so much for the info, got a couple of viewings on Friday, fingers crossed 🤞🤞😊
Oh wow, good luck!! 🤞😃 Keep us posted! xx
Wow that tunnel likes to rain 😂what a super torch Julie, would you mind sending me the details, that is a must purchase I think it is fantastic the way you could see all the bricks of the tunnel. Aww see you Nikki ❤❤. And bread maker, no end to your talents well done ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jacqui, this torch is amazing, it’s actually 250,000 luminaries, it’s bonkers bright! Here’s the link amzn.to/3XzLRgU Hope you get to try the bread! Speak soon xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB thank you lovely xxx

Good varnishing martin
He did good didn’t he! xx
Thankyou that was nice. Take care
Thanks Carol! xx
Lovely you do find some good spots!
We absolutely loved it at that mooring Helly! Thanks! xx
Thanks for showing us this beautiful part of the UK. Safe travels. Cara and Joe
Wow, thank you so much Cara & Joe, this is so kind xx
It certainly is a wet one 😂
Through Shrewley Tunnel, with a thunderous roar,
Rhapsody in Blue faced a deluge galore.
Admiral Julie, with her umbrella so grand,
Stayed dry as a bone, like she’d walked on dry land.
Captain Martin, at the helm, got drenched to the bone,
Looked like a soggy sea dog all alone.
“Help!” he bellowed, “I’m soaked through and through!”
“Arrr!” Julie replied, “It’s just a pirate’s bath for you!”
As they sailed out, Martin squelched with a cheer,
Julie winked and said, “A wet treasure’s near!”
OMG that’s brilliant!! 🤩 Thank you so much! This has made our day! xx ❤️
So many shades of green before & after the tunnel, plus the reflections, just gorgeous.
It really was a lovely cruise! I’m really looking forward to the Autumn colours too, not long now eh! Thanks Deborah! xx
That bread looked so good!!!
I
Hi Ian, lovely to hear from you! I couldn’t believe how well that bread came out, it was yummy! 😋 Thanks Ian xx

Aww such lovely words Derek, thank you so much! xx
Watching this in France and ooooo the frustration of poor reception wifi where we are at the moment! Nikki is stuck on a permanent goodbye! My Thursday “fix” from your wonderful travels will have to wait til we move on! Try again tomorrow. Did Martin have an umbrella in that drippy tunnel?
Aww thank you Liz, hope you got the WiFi sorted! xx
Dont forget to put a float on the torch just in case. Lime water is hard to get rid of so i know Martin will be cleaning and polishing / Got to keep boat clean and it always looks great. Stay safe catch you next vlog. Ed 40 S of Vegas
Hi Ed, that’s a good idea, thank you! Yes, Martin checks the boat most mornings for bird mess, leaves, and especially after going through tunnels and usually gives the boat a rinse off! Thanks Ed! xx
Thanks!
Wow, thank you so much Michael! xx
What a great mooring spot. That was a thorough job varnishing the seats Martin...and I love the "workbench"! That was certainly a good loaf you baked Julie. I could smell the freshly baked bread from here! Very nice drone shots yet again. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Aww thanks Neil, we absolutely loved it at that mooring! Glad you enjoyed it! xx
What a nice, secluded mooring. When you were showing the tunnel wall with the new light it looked like Martin was about to crash ! Seeing that loaf made me toast a ciabatta roll ! 😂
It really was a beautiful mooring!
Lol re the torch, it was great to see so much more of the tunnel! Glad you liked the bread, hope you enjoyed your ciabatta! Thank you! xx
This was a great vid, thanks. I think Paul Hollywood would have been proud of that loaf. I'm watching this when you're talking about 27° and it's due to get down to 3° tonight in the Bournemouth area tonight(it's only the middle of September 🤦🏼) 😂
Yes I know, it’s been quite cold these last few days hasn’t it, although it’s about to get warmer for a week or so 😃 Don’t think I’d get the P Hollywood handshake just yet lol, but thank you for the lovely compliment! It’s good to know you enjoyed the video, thank you! xx
Another great episode, I do envy y'all.
Aww thank you Bill xx
Lovely vlog! I must say the pace on the canal is wonderful. Stupendous views across the countryside 360 degrees! And seeing Martin doing his jobs reminds you of the housekeeping a home on the water demands to keep it looking in top condition. I was very sad to see Nicky and Finn leave though, she is very such a great sport! Have a wonderful weekend guys! ❤️
Hi Eric, thank you, lovely compliments! That mooring was definitely one of our favourites, we just loved it there!
Don’t worry, we’ll see Nikki again soon!
There’s always jobs that need doing on the boat, it’s a never ending list lol 😜
Thanks Eric! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB them jobs keep you fit i guess, lol, but then again, Rhapsody always looks pristine. Did you know i have some Rhapsody in Blue roses in my garden here! Also loved the drone footage! 💪💎💎💪
Aww thank you. I didn’t know there were Rhapsody in Blue roses! Thanks Eric! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB yep! And it is a blue-ish purple too! I think you should get one now! 😎
I’ll definitely look out for that! 😃 Thanks Eric! xx
Cool torch and great video to see in the tunnel so clearly which we would normally not see. Thanks for sharing
Hi Sally, the torch is amazing, I can’t wait to use it in a really long tunnel! Glad you enjoyed this week’s vlog! Thanks Sally! xx
Good evening Julie and Martin, that morning really does look good and Martin fantastic work re varnishing the wooden seats. Julie that loaf of bread looked absolutely amazing. Hope you have had a wonderful week and are keeping warm now the temperature has well and truly plummeted. Have a wonderful weekend, lots of love and best wishes as always
Hi Edward! We really loved it at that mooring, it was almost like being on holiday! Martin did a good job on those seats didn’t he 😃 That bread was yummy! You’re right, think Autumn is definitely upon us, we even put the fire on the other night!! Have a great week Edward! xx
I feel like ive had a holiday watching this episode!
Aww that’s lovely of you to say Deborah, thank you! xx
Hi, Thank you for real & unfiltered. Many blessings to you & yours🌞
Thank you Tim, I don’t think you can beat nature when it comes to colours, no need for filters, nature does it best! So pleased you enjoyed this one! Thank you! xx
Another wonderful vlog! 🎉🎉
Aww thank you! xx
Your bread looks delicious x
Aww thank you Pauline! xx
Your bread looks lovely
Aww thank you! xx
That was a truly lovely mooring spot, and such a great opportunity for odd jobs getting done. The seats look beautiful, Martin, and the bread looked scrummy, Julie! I love fresh bread with a bit of cream cheese and strawberry preserves on it. A perfect combination!
It really was a beautiful mooring, we loved it there! Oh definitely, fresh bread with strawberry jam, just perfect! Aww thanks Chris! xx
Another great vlog guys, amazing mooring and great weather to catch up on a bit of boat tlc, i agree with Martin, fresh baked bread = jam doorstep 🍞🍞😋
Hi Nigel! So glad you enjoyed this one, that mooring was just perfect, we loved it there! Actually I agree too, there’s nothing like jam on fresh bread! 😋 Thanks Nigel! xx
The bread looked good
Aww thank you, it really was tasty, I was chuffed to bits when it came out that well! xx
Just a beautiful fun video, Thanks so much for sharing your adventures.
Thank you Craig, so pleased you enjoyed it! xx
Thanks for another beautiful scenic video. This one left me thinking of how many, many years the farms you are cruising through have been farmed. The history that comes to mind is amazing. That led to today's question...With so much rich history, how many regional dialects do you all have ... and where are you and Martin's accent (or as we say in the South...twang) originate from?
There are many local accents, Martin is from London, so he is what is known as a cockney, and I’m from Essex, so I have an Essex accent! You’re right though, there is so much history along the canals, it’s fascinating! Thanks Brent! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB Thank you for sharing about your accents. I once visited a popular tourist trap in Colorado with my Mom. As we were just talking away, a nice couple in front of us turned around and asked where we were from and named our home town, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee! Apparently our accents are discernible that we could be identified to the county and state. Never in my wildest imagination that I'd ever think that was possible...but there it was. Anyway, can't wait to see what y'all get into next. Thanks a bunch!
Wow that’s brilliant! I guess some accents are more recognisable than others xx
Hey Guys. I do woodworking myself and for a really nice finish with varnish, I buy it in a spray can. Martin probably already knows but, spraying gives a much nicer finish that using a brush. Oh, and if the year on Martin's coffee cup is his birth year, then we were born in the same year (1962). My birthday is Monday as a matter of fact. 😊 Thanks for another one. Take care.
Thanks for the tip Roger! And Happy Birthday for tomorrow! Well spotted, that is Martin’s birthday year 😃 Thanks Roger! xx
Next time if you want to check if it is cooked you turn it upside down and tap it with your knuckles . It should sound like a drum. Mind you you started with good flour I use the 6 seeds flour which is a nice one.
Hi Maureen, yes I’ve found that flour to be the best! Thank you for the tip! xx
sat here feeling extremely hungry seeing your home made bread 😊great vlog as always x
Aww thank you Tracy, I couldn’t believe it came out so well! Glad you’re enjoying our little videos! xx
Julie your bread looked really good, who needs store bought?😍
Haha, yes it was lovely! 😋 Thanks Marion xx
all that stuff off the trees and plants i seen that in a pond where i was working at a big house and it was a bloody great size garden but i agree julie that is a great place we would love it there its better than city life wonder full another great journey another warm show bless ya both xx
So glad you liked it, we loved it at that mooring! xx
good see you got vid out on channel and get job done on the boat and nice food and cranking it on the cut thanks lee
Thanks Lee, there always seems to be loads of jobs to be done in the boat, it’s a never ending list lol 😜 xx
My vivid imagination!! Found the old man of the tunnel? As you leave left hand side ( chin, open mouth, nose, eye and long stragily hair)😉
Mention of a storm reminded me - was the tree in previous vlog hit by lightning?
What is a BBS? Presume safety standard audit for canal worthiness - can't have RinB going to the bottom😬😵💫
Thanks for another interesting vlog - Martin is a " jack of all trades" like my dad was. Jan Adelaide🩷💙
OMG we watched it back and wow, there he was! Spooky! 😳
The BSS is the Boat Safety Scheme certificate, a bit like an MOT is for cars, only for boats it’s every 4 years and very thorough!! Martin is quite handy that’s for sure, he’ll have a go at anything! Thanks Jan xx
What a great torch, that will be fantastic in the longer tunnels 😊 Amy and Wes are such a nice couple, easy company ❤ great that you all managed to spend some time together 😊 didninhear a donkey in the background? 😂 mummy Julie pasta 😋 nice to see Martin getting some jobs done at last 😂😂 stay safe ❤❤
Aww thanks matey! Are you sure you didn’t hear a donkey? 🤔😂 Hope we meet up again soon, perhaps a winter BBQ or two! 😃 xx
Hi Guys, loved the video, bread looked amazing, the frog took centre stage😂😂
Hi Martin & Lucy, I could t believe how well the bread came out! That frog was certainly lively 😂😂 Thank you! xx
We have ordered a torch too!! arrived this AM from Amazon, Wow !!!!! it even comes with a little lamp too, great dog walking and cruising on our Viking 23
@@martinandlucygrant361It’s a great torch isn’t it! Aww we used to have a Seamaster 27 cruiser, we loved it! Have fun! xx
Home made bread yummy.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good that loaf came out! Thank you! xx
Another lovely episode, thank you. I get a bit nervous when I see your camera so low to the water when you take those lovely clips. It is totally worth it, but, please don't drop the camera into the canal. A very peaceful mooring. Liked you bread. Martin I may have a tip for you when painting your wood. Firstly, in South Africa an oil based varnish. After sanding I mix 1/3 varnish with 2/3 thinners. This allows the varnish to soak into the wood well. After it is dry a second coat of 50/50 of thinners & varnish. once dry a light sanding. The final coat of just varnish. This will help the varnish to last longer and the re-varnishing will be not so often. In recent years we have found that is SA a water based varnish hold up better with our hot sun. Thanks again for a great episode. Granddad Dave.
Hi Dave, don’t worry about the camera, I won’t be letting go lol, I love those shots too! Thank you for the tip with the varnish, mind you, with our wet climate here in the UK, not sure that water based would be any good, but will definitely try the thinners! Thanks Dave! xx
Oh! Just ordered the torch as well!!!
Brilliant! It’s amazing, I can’t wait to use it in a really long tunnel! We’ll be doing Harecastle soon, so might try it in there! Thanks Joanne xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB we're doing the harecastle tunnel tomorrow! Pity we haven't got the torch yet!!
Aww that’s a shame. We’ll be heading that way soon going north, I’ve finally persuaded Martin to go through Harecastle, he really doesn’t like them 🫣 xx
I think the sheep bleeting would be a better sound for your hooter.
Barry
Hahaha 🤣 Barry, now that would be funny! xx
Going to try the bread…as we are in Texas we don’t do metric, but I believe we have figured it out. Does bread improver really improve it? Never heard of it but I’ve ordered some from Amazon.
Hi Sue! The bread improver helps it to last a little longer. Usually with homemade bread if you don’t eat it on the first day, it’s stale by the second day. With the bread improver, it lasts a few days before going stale. You’ll have to let us know how it goes! Thanks Sue! xx
Personally I think the Shrewley district of the GU to be one of the most beautiful stretches of navigation.Did you use a yacht varnish on the seats? And that yellow, daisy like flower is Ragwort which is poisonous to livestock.Lovely cruise 😊
It is a really pretty stretch of the canal, we loved it! Yes, it’s glossy yacht varnish that we used. I didn’t realise that pretty little flower was poisonous, I’ll definitely remember that, thank you! xx
thats fantastic i can see it all very good idea that helps martin makes me wonder how he did it in the dark may be he likes his carrots
I wondered what you were talking about then Derek, but realise you mean the tunnel lol 😂 Yes that torch is amazing! Thanks Derek! xx
What happens if you two take a holiday abroad? Can you leave Rhapsody in a Marina for as long as you need? After a frustrating start, managed to get some wifi! Thanks for a great video.

You're right. I was like where's Hammish!? I was triggered bybthe loss of Dexter and wasn't exactly sober. Sorry. LOL
Aww it’s easily done, Caroline & Pete pop up in our videos and we pop up in theirs too lol 😜 Love Hamish, the way he just plods along, and Poppy is like an excited puppy! 🐾 xx

Your not weird for liking thunderstorms! I, myself, love a good thunderstorm. They just don't seem to last as long as when I was a kid. Couple 2 or 3 boom booms and then it's over.
Hiya! Lovely to hear from you! I know what you mean, we don’t seem to get thunderstorms like we used to, like you say a couple of flashes and booms and they’re all over 🤷♀️ Thank you! xx
That touch should work very well in the longer tunnels. Such a lovely vlog. Thanks so much for sharing!
You’re welcome! Yes I can’t wait to try the torch in our next tunnel which should be Harecastle tunnel 😃 Thank you! xx
