ABSOLUTELY 100% You get it. This rare light has been shared by few others. Johnny Cash among them. Beautiful beyond compare. Colter White gives me HOPE for country / western music.
The one thing that is often missed is the 3 progressive base drum kicks shortly after the lyric "I put 3 rounds into Kate McCannon" ... That is subtle genius arrangement right there ... Voice, Guitar, Kick Drum - There are complete bands that do not sound as full as Colter Wall ... If you get the chance to see him live he has an incredible band and real stage presence ...
Another dynamic in this song that never seems to get mentioned is how when he spots Kate in the creek with another lover, the guitar mimics his sharply rising anger -- from calm fingerstyle picking to furious, slamming the chords so hard they buzz on the frets in a matter of seconfs
22. He was born June 1995. I know this because I’m May 1995. I love following people born same year as me. This was released in late 2017 and I was 22 so.
This type of song is a "Traditional" Country song style known as a Murder Ballad. Colter gets his inspiration from a lot of older lesser known country artists and during this period of his career he used this deeper voice in conjunction with traditional sounds to make some killer songs. If you look into his newer releases its the same style but has stopped using this deeper octave because it was damaging his throat. He's got more of a Marty Robbins tone to him now, but its still amazing to see this type of music being made anew.
Lyrically his original songs remind me so much of Marty Robins, there’s clearly a big influence there. Which is awesome, Marty was one of America’s greatest songwriters and Colter is the new generation of a similar style of songwriting. Edit: one could also mention the great Townes Van Zandt, I’d wager anything that Colter takes a lot of inspiration from both of those great songwriters.
You're correct in that it's a murder ballad, but the song form predates "Country" music by quite a bit--it's more of a Scottish Folk style that ended up informing Blues, Bluegrass, and Appalachian Folk that all eventually wended their way back together to inform Country. I adore the genre. Some suggested listening for others who like this: Dock Boggs, Pretty Polly; Fairport Convention, Matty Groves; R.L. Burnside, Stack O'Lee and Billy Lyons; Johnny Cash, Delia's Gone; Nick Cave, Murder Ballads (album).
That last part of the song really makes you feel the quiet heartbreak turning into an all consuming rage when he finds them & I felt betrayed too the first time I heard this song.
You talked through one of the best parts of that performance. Toward the end he hits the kick drum 3 times almost to punctuate putting 3 rounds into Kate.
I think the reason why I and everyone else that watches your videos is cause your acting almost like a proud father especially when it’s new guys, you build them up not tear them down🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I normally laugh at these "reaction videos" but the love and passion you share for great music and artists radiates and I love listening to these new artists along with you @Fischtank Productions!
I Recently found you by your recent reaction of colter wall and ever since then I have been hooked on your videos. Keep up your great work man we all love what you are doing.Next you should listen to Sleeping on the Black Top by Colter Wall, it is another very good song.
I distinctly remember you saying something about not really liking country music. Well, in fishing terms I would say "fisch on, hook line and sinker". I love the way you appreciate the lyrics.
Another awesome review that was fun to see you totally caught off guard by the songwriting. I appreciate your genuine emotional responses to these guys pouring out their souls. Will you check out “Pleasure in the Pain” acoustic version by Dylan Wheeler? It’s a ride.
Wish it would’ve been the video version! But dude, I’ve been hooked since finding your reaction to wait in the truck, I’ve watched HUNDREDS of reaction videos to songs… but man, after finding you you’re the only one I watch now 😅 …. You break it down like no other, no extra stuff and great breakdowns with your background. Love it brother! Subscribed for life!
Great reaction as always man. Check out fraulein by Colter and Tyler Childers it is the chefs kiss of duets. Also check out some Jack White Carolina drama
Johnny Boy’s Bones is a great one, although he’s Canadian he tells stories about America as well as Canada. Rocky Mountain Rangers is Slept on alot too, I love the “live in front of nobody” performance of it. Caroline is a sweet one featuring Belle Plaine. I honestly don’t recommend an artist this well but Colter wall is something different that you’ll probably never see again in our life time. Another few artists Who I personally enjoy that would be good reactions are Charley Crockett Benjamin Todd Zack Bryan Ryan Bingham Sam Shackleton V.N.E Willie Carlisle Chris Knight And to cap it off, C.W McCall
Colter covered several Townes Van Zandt songs, you really should listen to Townes,!!!! best storyteller ever and a great picking! Really love your reactions
If you like the story style songs and lyrics, Parker McCollum writes some absolute POETRY in his older stuff. New Orleans, Memphis rain, hell of a year are all beautifully written and his performance a couple years ago back I think at the CMAs was PHENOMENAL. Would love a react!!!!!!
I love the way he uses the guitar riffs to finish out the lines in the beginning, if that makes sense? That and whenbit goes so quiet, and surges back at the murder, the guitar is an active participant
When you come back to Colter, you need to check out his performance of Bob Fudge live from the back pasture. He's evolved his style since the original 16 sessions but he's still just as amazing, it's worth a listen. Keep it up my man.
1. Charley Crockett- Run Horse Run 2. Charles Wesley Godwin - Senica Creek 3. The last Knife Fighter - buddy get my knife 4. Taylor mccall- Red Handed 5. John Craigie- Don’t ask 6. Ian Noe- meth head All these are video worthy Brother! 🤙🏼
You're continuing to put out great content and interesting different perspectives ! You should definitely check out Caleb Lee Hutchinson, he was a runner up on American idol a few years back. He has an absolutely incredible voice!! Keep grinding brotha!
Please please please do a reaction video for Nolan Taylor's song 68. 🙏 You love the lyrics of Zach Bryan and this guy is another level of emotion. He will move you! My wife and I can't wait to watch you hear it for the first time!!!
His tone and pitch and the way he can tell a story remind me of the late great Johnny Cash.
ABSOLUTELY 100% You get it. This rare light has been shared by few others. Johnny Cash among them. Beautiful beyond compare. Colter White gives me HOPE for country / western music.
He sounds like a drunk Johnny Cash.
Absolutely sounds like Johnny cashes song hurt and gods gonna cut you down
@@johndeere8594 Absolutely sounds like Johnny cashes song hurt and gods gonna cut you down
That is the first thing I thought the very first time I heard him!
Cowpoke by him has to be next. It’ll show you a different voice from him. He’s fine tuned his deep voice a lot since these old recordings!
Great song. Evangelina really good too.
Nah, a better song but same sound as cowpoke would be Big Iron
@@corbind.9395 but thats not written by colter wall
@@Dodge_Dude didn't know that was a stipulation... I was just talking sound. Who wrote what wasn't mentioned in the comment.
@@Dodge_Dudeneither was cowpoke lol it was written in 1951 by Elton Britt
everytime i hear "and i put thee rounds into Kate Mcannon" I fully ascend to another plain

I believe he's 19 in this video, he's got an amazing voice. He's one of my favorites

And on top of that. I don’t think a brewery would be promoting someone underage. 😂
