what morons would 'thumbs down' this? it is a great lesson and it sounds exactly like when the stones play it live. many thanks to the guy who recorded this lesson and posted it. i am a lifelong stones fan and now i can play my favorite stones song. thank you again and a thousand thumbs up!
+toowired I agree completely. MORONS. Andy is an awesome guitar player and gives free lessons so you might buy his products. I bought an Italia Rimini 12 string from him after watching his demo. It was one of the best bangs for the buck around. I plan to buy some pedals from him in the future if I can sneak it past my wife. I am 62 and have no problem with the youngsters showing me how to play and I have been a weekend warrior for the last 35 years.
Probably dudes who think the song is played in open e. I believe theres multiple tunings used, an open g, an open e, a nashville tuning and standard. Over all it feels like open G to me.
@@stevehogsett8121 I have heard it open E and it sound better and authentic in open G. This was a very solid lesson between the explanation, demonstration and tab; it was pretty easy to follow.
A classic. I purchased this pedal way back then & will never get let it go. His lesson speaks for its self, as Andy is a legend in the petal world along with being an outstanding player.
Thanks so much! Been waiting and looking for this a long time! Perfect version! A simple song that has so much warmth and a fantastic groove. So much fun to play now!
Bravo.... Excellent demo here Andy of a genius player, and band that mastered the open tuning. I have not heard this song played in open E - but I do know Ronny Wood used open E with RS and the faces.
Beyond awesome. one thing...your others are great too and would benefit from the tabs like those you have here. either way, keep em coming! the slow down at the end very helpful. Sincerely, Keef
Hey Andy Again great job thanks for that! I had a 63 Tele pre CBS almost original that I let slip away (yeah idiot I know!!) so my question is can you guys build a re-issue to the specs? And by that I mean the neck was like playing Butter! never have I played another guitar like that sure miss that baby! if so what would that set me back, and oh yeah (Im a lefty) curious to know thanks. Also are guys only on Reverb? no website? IO couldnt pull you up only on Reverb.
My guess would be because Keef plays so often in open G. Offhand there's likely some intervals and chords that would be musically correct but sound "off" in open E.
I thought I cought him using a pick. He must have a ghost pick, I would swear I can see it sometimes. It looks like he adjusts a pick, it sounds like a pick striking the strings. I even took screenshots of what I thought was a pick and turns out to be his his thumb. This dude has himself a ghost pick. That explains it, he's been possessed by one of the dead greats.
No he doesn't use one, he just holds his thumb and forefinger together sometimes as if his thumbnail were a pick. He often does the Lindsey Buckingham 'flick' with his forefinger too.
Yes he does. In an interview he said the only time he used a pick for demos was with these lesson and also have a look around 3:12 you can see him readjust the pick in his fingers.
If you watch the 1972 live version of this song on UA-cam, Keith is playing Micawber with the 6th string removed and capoed at the 4rth fret. This is obviously in open G tuning. Keith would need the 6th string to play this song in open E.
Robert Williams lets see who should we listen to a rock legend who wrote some of the best classics of all time or some dude on the interwebs nobody has heard of who plays mustang sally in front of 30 people at the VFW?
Heads and shoulders above anyone and everyone else that has tried to teach this song!
Andy is the kind of neighbor I wish I had . . . just listening to his playing all day in the summer . . .
DrRussPhd He has a lot of feeling

One of my all time favourite riffs
A classic. I purchased this pedal way back then & will never get let it go. His lesson speaks for its self, as Andy is a legend in the petal world along with being an outstanding player.
One of the quintesential rock licks that is so English cool it should be time capsuled...thanks for a lesson that nailed it.
Information that can be used for a lifetime. Wonderful days we live in. Thank you
Feel, tone and pace of not only the lesson, but of the play through out is near perfect. Amazing
Beautiful, beautiful song... So sweet, so simple, so warm!
Thanks so much! Been waiting and looking for this a long time! Perfect version! A simple song that has so much warmth and a fantastic groove. So much fun to play now!
Goddamn... Keith is such a genius :)
I guess it is kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to watch new series online ?

Thanks man. great little lesson, The pedal sounds good!
Love to see PGS reopen their downtown PDX store.
That rent in the Pearl district must have been obscene, and Ted Weasler is busy chasing all business out of PDX.
well done lesson - thanks
Great lesson.......love the pace .....not too fast or slow .....thanks
Ahh the tele i dig that tone....nice pedal
Diggin' the tone!

Such a great song and a great lesson, thanks.
This is a good song to play ahead of jumping Jack flash, with the capo in the same position.
I never could get the transition till now thanks
So good, so cool!!!

Bravo.... Excellent demo here Andy of a genius player, and band that mastered the open tuning.
I have not heard this song played in open E - but I do know Ronny Wood used open E with RS and the faces.
plundered my soul pleasee
Beyond awesome. one thing...your others are great too and would benefit from the tabs like those you have here. either way, keep em coming! the slow down at the end very helpful. Sincerely, Keef
this guy loves guitars. you can tell.
Hey Andy Again great job thanks for that! I had a 63 Tele pre CBS almost original that I let slip away (yeah idiot I know!!) so my question is can you guys build a re-issue to the specs? Andy, can you please teach us how to play "This Charming Man" by The Smiths?
Thanks PGS and Andy for these lessons!
Can you show us how you set up and get the tone on the amp that you are using?
My second favorite stones song. Could you guys do my #1 cant you hear me knocking?
awesome
thanks you
My guess would be because Keef plays so often in open G. Offhand there's likely some intervals and chords that would be musically correct but sound "off" in open E.
Anyone have tabs for the Verse? Having trouble nailing it down.
Andi 💙
Andy can you do jumping jack flash please. Thanks
Einfach nur Geil
Sorry... Could you tell me what BPM you played the slow version. It sounded proper laid back and bluesy.
Ossom👏
Thx
hey can you guys do "Busted" by the Black Keys?
And by the way wasn't Exile on Main St. recorded with an ampeg svt? Why didn't you guys use the catalinbread sft?
Shit yeah!Thanks
Paul Rudd is some player!
He looks nothing like Paul rudd 😄
I'd really like to learn Gimme Shelter too! :)
Can't you hear me knockin'
That guitar.
Doom and Gloom please.
Now do Mick Taylor's part!
Gimme shelter please!
Open G with a capo on the 4th fret? Then why not use open E with a capo on the 2nd fret?
I thought I cought him using a pick. He must have a ghost pick, I would swear I can see it sometimes. It looks like he adjusts a pick, it sounds like a pick striking the strings. I even took screenshots of what I thought was a pick and turns out to be his his thumb. This dude has himself a ghost pick. That explains it, he's been possessed by one of the dead greats.
Actually Keef uses some FX, if sparingly.
Why show tabs for everything except the verse’s riff?
I Love it! Your style, your Guitar, your attitude ...! Thank you, for teaching me🗝
You're welcome Daniel, glad I could help!
Andy,
great "teacher" but one question: when you "teach" Rolling Stone you don't take away the E fat string????? Much better.....
Tone is killing
Why the capo?
Open G, capo fourth fret because the song is in key of B major.
Only thing missing is the omission of the low E, ha ha..
Somehow it never sounds right when i play it and I am not fucked up on smack....
On the neck PU,LoL
Andy,
Your playing is way to clean compared to keith richards :) Need to throw in some drugs!
use a pick , sounds like the tone is closed
Giving Andy a guitar lesson, lol!
Sharon Levi Shhhh.
He is using a pick.
Lol! And wouldn't he mean 3rd fret by his thinking?
the reason this sounds slighty off is cos keith played it in "e" tuning which is a cool tuning but its not much use for anything else
If you watch the 1972 live version of this song on UA-cam, Keith is playing Micawber with the 6th string removed and capoed at the 4rth fret. This is obviously in open G tuning. Keith would need the 6th string to play this song in open E.
No, you're wrong. Listen (and watch Richards) again.
So... halfway through and you're finally getting to it..oh wait.... advertising!!! Pffft
at least one string out of tune
Ya know … if you stuck the camera on your forehead so we could watch your fingers from guitarist perspective that would be really helpful
A capo on a tellecaster?... Really?
It is spelled telecaster you dumb fuck and yes it's a capo!
Bite me...
+Robert Williams
you did know keith richards uses a capo on this song right?
people sure are stupid.
You may bite me as well.
Robert Williams
lets see who should we listen to a rock legend who wrote some of the best classics of all time or some dude on the interwebs nobody has heard of who plays mustang sally in front of 30 people at the VFW?
So fu.... good 💙
