I can hardly listen to my earlier recording efforts. Didn't have a clue what I was doing to begin with but that was part of the challenge that kept me in it. I call them timestamps. Thanks for putting the lesson together!!
If you have never heard the version of Midnight Rambler from The Brussels Affair (1973 live), I would suggest giving that one a listen. I bet Keith snorted a couple of rails of cocaine before starting the riff. It's a ripping version. In fact it might be one of the best concerts the Stones ever played. Billy Preston & Mick Taylor are in full effect. Here is a clip from the band's UA-cam account: ua-cam.com/video/E3TbZ6ZCtyI/v-deo.html
They played the Los Anneles Forum in '69. When they started up MIdnight Rambler Mick Jagger grabbed a hat off a cop's head who was guarding the front of the stage. Mick was dancing around the stage with cop hat on his head with cops chasing him and then he threw the hat out into the crowd. He held his hands up like "Ok, you got me." The cops backed off and MIck went back to singing the tune. It was really perfectly theatericaly in synch with the song. .
I’m not sure if he did the slide part, but Ry Cooder had recorded some things on this album. There’s this album, called “Jamming with Edward” that was recorded at the same time.
Midnight rambler rocks, you gotta have that capo on the seventh fret . If you play it without the capo it’s just OK. You put the capo on and it comes alive. I can chug away for hours on that,, a Belgium bootleg is the definitive performance for me
Interesting choice for guitar. My intro to the Stones was also Hot Rocks. Check out You Cant Always GetWhat You Want from Love You Live. It is imho the greatest solo of all time. Ronnie hits every note on the board!
What a classic Stones song. Keith was ahead of the times with this song following his 'Keep It Simple, Stupid' - 'KISS' approach. The E tuning for slide guitar part is so f'kn obvious. A great jammin' song. I had known for years the incorrect concert pitch, however I believe the in-between pitch makes it sound moodier/darker. I used to think the Stones, as did many other bands at the time experimented with pitch. A very good lesson. Good work.
I must have played this song a hundred times and really thought you’d teach me how slightly wrong I was, again. But it didn’t happen this time, pheew. One thing though : I never thought about the Stones slowing down that tape but now.. the very dark warm-up intro, the pitch and Jagger’s deep voice would make this a very valid theory.
He left out the open 5th and 4th strings before the E-shape riff. You might as well play “Here Comes the Sun” and “Hotel California” with the guitar capo at the 7th fret. I always do and you should as well.
Good comment about the pitch of this song. Additionally, at least one of the guitars is even out of tune with that baseline. But that adds to the beauty, right?

Get yer Ya Ya's live version of this is a total banger.Keef at his magisterial best-sloppy and funky.Great lesson man-keep it up.
I agree :-) Mick Taylor also play a part on the Ya Ya's version, whicj is by far the most awesome ever , imho
3:04 minutes till you play.
Jibber jabber.
Get to it.
Their best live album. (Match it with Live at Leeds!)

Mick Taylor makes the live version on YaYa’s. His lead playing is super tasty.
That slide part has always intrigued me. thanks for breaking it down.
Another e-z to play winner ! Thanks Doug... you rock, from Les Paul's hometown.
Nice job on this classic Stones tune. Thanks!
You are getting close to 100k subscribers , hope it happens soon you certainly deserve it
Thank you so much 😀
Woo-Hoo!! That's probably my Favorite Stones album!!

Thanks! I didn’t know I was playing it wrong for 45 years.

"It's a by-Edward jam..." One of my favorites!

that Belgian performance is the greatest live recording in rock history in my opinion

Great video....thank you for this😁

Hot rocks my first too. Great introduction
Another excellent song and lesson. Thank you!
Fantasic lesson. Thank you!
Ill come back after i get to hear the song.
Great stuff dude! Love the sound of those P90s. They sound fantastic.
Amazing! Just saw them the other night in Philly and Keith got some great tones with his LP junior capo'd for this song
Really good, thank u
Keith’s parts were so unique ❤

There’s a UA-cam video by HJ’s Corner with isolated Midnight Rambler instruments which may possibly help you hear what’s being played.
Cool! Great lesson, thanks!
Great lesson - thanks👍
Such a fantastic and fun song to play!! A Great lesson, and now I know what I was doing wrong, lol!!
Very cool thank you !
Great lesson!! Thank you! ✌🏻😎
The live version on Hot Rocks is the absolute best of those 3 IMO.
Great stuff
Hot Rocks, first record also as a kid. Tattoo You hit the shelves and I was officially a Stones kid/guy.
Another good one.stones.
Awesome. Good stuff!
Rumor is that Keith used his beat-up Maton guitar on Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter, probably thru a Vox amp.
I’ve read that it was the Dan Armstrong, lucite body guitar.
I describe Keef’s tone as clean with some hair on it.
Great lesson. Love the Stones!!!
How about the Wanton Song, Led Zeppelin off Physical Graffiti. One of Page's best riffs.
Keith wasn't clean in 1969 😂🤣😆 he was absolutely stoned 😂 But he just got that sound. And you do it extremely awesome 👍
Great kickoff.
Thank you !!!!
Although Let It Bleed was released in 69 it was 28th November 69 so it’s more a 1970 album to me.
Nice video of a great song.
Keeping with the subdued slide theme,
How about slow and easy by whitesnake next?
Grab a blues harp in the key of E (tune guitar to harp) and get a friend to play along and the song comes alive.
Caledonia / Robin Trower ✨✨✨🎸✨✨✨☮️
The song is in E, not B. B is just the first chord.
great!
Brian jones was credited to "percussion" look on tge cd liner notes and wikipedia

Damn and here I was doing it with straight barr with suspend 4 ths and accenting the "D" shape with a barred flat 7th lol
❤

would love to you show how to play She Said, She Said by Gov't Mule... the only cover I think I have heard of a Beatles song I like better!!!
Ok I'm back.
I don't care for that song anyway.
Thanks.
Where’s the play through.
I hate when they assume we know the song. Play it!
Why is your strap twisted?
I think these old songs get their weird tunings by tape speed. It sucks. Another great song that I have to tune weird to play is Rambling Man...
Many words......
One of their worst songs 😣.
