Meh, I have two Variax and _four_ Peavey AT-200s which means I'm able to switch tunings mid-song. AT-200s also auto-tune (without changing string tension) and virtual capo-up and capo-down. Love these things.
Great video! List of songs: Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Can´t you hear me knocking, Happy (capo), Jumpin´Jack Flash (capo), Tumbling Dice (capo), Start me Up, Gimme Shelter
Easily one of the best Stones lessons I've ever seen. It's amazing how much you can learn in 15 minutes. Also that Strat you"re playing sounds fantastic.
Heh! That second (last) Dixon... ROLLER.... Inspiration? Just at the front end there. Anyway, open G really is a great and helpful way to write riffs and rock n roll. You're just more "set up" to rock. Thanks for the nice clip, April 🍷 Ooops, I mean, Marc ⚡
Great review of open G riffs! It's lots of fun and people who haven't tried it really should. You'll pick it up really quickly. Plus it's a commonly-used key for slide and makes it less noisy and less intimidating...for me, at least. Love your original work, too. Keep 'em coming!! Another great open tuning song: Jungle Love by Steve Miller, in open A. One of the more enjoyable challenges I took on.
I'm getting back to playing after far too many years with my guitar shoved up in the attic. I'm 30 years further down the line and since I last played "in anger" the music world has changed with the arrival of the Internet. Now there's so many sites to learn from like here that were never available before. I think I'm going to enjoy making up for lost time. That guitar in the attic? Totally useless now but I've just bought a beautiful old strat and can't wait to get into some of Keefs riffs.😊 Thanks for the demo!
Another great video, Dwane. I also keep one of my guitars in open G. I've found that It is a good way to interest young people to the electric guitar, even if they've never held one. I usually start them off with "Bad to the Bone". The expression on their faces is priceless. That's one cool shirt, BTW.
Thank you! I dig that shirt too!! Open G tuning is so much fun and open a whole new palette of sound! I can imagine the face of a beginner when they first hear that classic riff and see how simple it is to play! Have a great day!
thanks sir for introducing me to open-tuning. Yes I have heard of it but have never bothered to try it until watching this...cant wait to get into it....
Thanks a lot!! I will most likely do a vol 2. Keef is the king of open G. So much good material to choose from! Any one that I missed that you'd like to see?
I was just giving "Love You Live" a listen. Not sure why that live album gets lukewarm reviews from some, I think it's great and it's a real open G showcase for Keith. Anyway, thanks for a good fun lesson. I could use more detail on the Can't You Hear Me Knockin' intro - that one's tough for me. I play open G a lot, but I like to go for the low notes on the D and wouldn't dream of taking it off. Hope you don't mind me mentioning one of my open G songs - Rosetta West - Deeper Than Magic (labyrinth version) on UA-cam.
Thanks for explaining how to tune in Open G, Keith Richards style. Why did you tuned the E string when Keith doesn't use that string ? I would have liked to know what the other chords were as I am still learning and I find it difficult and too fast to keep up with some of the tutorials here on UA-cam
Just because Keith removes the top string doesn't mean everyone has to. You can still play the songs with the top string on. Most players who use open G leave it on. When you say you want to the other chords, do you mean all the chords in one song? What song would you like to learn?
Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. I have the open G tuning memorized. From low strings to high strings, 6th string is D, the 5th is G, the 4th is D the 3rd is G and the 2nd is B, the 1st is D and there you have a wonderful open G chord with D in the bass. So when you play a G chord, you can mute the top string, and you'll have G, the tonic on the 5th string. It's just a memorization thing. Does that help?
@@doubledsrockschool Yes thank you, perhaps I didn't explain properly. I have listened to Keith Richards play open G but like all Stones concerts and videos it's not a learning experience.
@@doubledsrockschool Hello again DD I'm sorry to be bothering you with questions about Open G tuning again. I noticed that Keith Richards has a Capo on the 5th Fret on electric guitar - is that correct ? He also played on or near to the 5th Fret on Acoustic guitar without a Capo. Do you need to use the Capo to achieve the open G sound?
What a beautifull video man!!! Iwill like to listen on your hands Street figthing man. Is the first time I can see how to do open G afination cleary. A huge regards from Argentina. We LOVE Stones and they LOVE we.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Also, I am in love with your strat! The color with that pick guard, it's just awesome. If you could tell me about it I would really appreciate it! You rock!!!
Wow! Thanks so much for the good vibes!! The strat is a parts-caster. The body I bought is a WSG '63 start template from Guitar Fetish dot com. The neck is an '80's Japanese neck and the pickups are all Dimarzio, the bridge is an Injector middle is aa Area 61 same as the neck. I put orange drop capacitors on the tones knobs and that sweet pickguard I bought on Amazon. I love hot rodding strats!
