Been watching your videos for over 10 years now. I’m always amazed at your candy stash. You have the coolest finds
I have a drawerful and pretend it is not there only to be eaten whilst camping.
Hey Shug, I’m a little late on this one so I hope you still see it.
I found your channel when I was probably 15 years old and getting started hammock camping. I went often and used so much of what I learned from your videos. I’m 28 now with 2 little boys and a career. I haven’t gotten a chance to hang in a few years. One day I’ll start taking them when they are old enough and pass on what you taught me. I come back to your videos often partially because they remind me of a simpler time in my life. Just want to say thank you and show some appreciation for helping make some of my memories better.
Whoooooo Buddy)))) The woods await.....
Good to see Wander’nFool back on the trail! He and I have the same condition and I was holding my breath as he was crossing those logs. I have difficulty with unfamiliar, uneven terrain (even stairs)! Good for him! More good hikes in the future for you and him!
He has adapted really well to his eye since we last hiked. Quite nimble him~
So good to see two good buddies out and about enjoying life.
We talked until we were hoarse....or at least I did!
I'm out of the loop on the whole second "Early..?!" thing, but I love it and habitually say it whenever I hear the first early!
12:07 in this video explains it......ua-cam.com/video/s-MBWU0FQV4/v-deo.html
What a joy to have a new video from you today. My wife and I just got back from camping along the Blue Ridge Parkway. So, I’m watching as I relax after a much needed scrub.
I really appreciate the time you take to put these together. It’s inspiring to me and I’ve learned a lot.
I am missing my old home State of NC. Got a livermush hankering!
This makes my Friday! O so much better. I can almost smell the fall leaves. Thanks Shug and the bonus of a podcast for traffic tonight makes this day!
Whoooo Buddy!
Hey ho Jason...The leaf smell was powerful. The pew was glorious. Real good cool weather sleeping too.
Im sure he was amazed to watch good ole Shug work the woods like a master.
Oh...work is not in my lexicon! Lollygag for the win. Thankee.
What a nice time. One of my favorite things in the fall is to wake up and see the maple leaves on the tarp. Thanks for a great video and take care, Al
I leaf silnylon tarp would be nice. Maybe it exists!
Just what i needed to boost my spirits!
Thanks Shug!
Righto~~~
Was so, so, so glad to have a video to look forward to today!!! Thanks so much!!!!
Happy to provide some content. Thanks for the good words.
You guys look like you have a blast out there together. Thanks for sharing!
We did. Laid in the hammocks and talked for hours non-stop. Well, at least I did.
My favorite tube channel of all time. Long time subscriber and continually re-watching your old classics. Good stuff !
I truly appreciate that. Truly.
Great way to start the day!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Love your videos Shug. The NCT is under appreciated for sure. Glad you got to spend some quality time with those the mean the most to you.
Too true! It does not seem to have the massive social media following like the SHT has. A good thing!
Nothing like a little amble in the north woods in the fall. I'm glad you showed all the features of the Tensa Trekking Treez. They look like a usable solution for the one tree problem.
I got it case I do do a thru-hike next year on SHT and it will reduce my fear of not being able to sleep in my hammock to restore my old body.
I like that setup .. a lot. Looks pretty slick.
Thanks for the video brother
It will give me piece of mind if i ever do a thru hike. Thankee for always making a comment.
Just lovely.. as usual 👍❤
Thankee and thanks.
Great to see Wanderin’ out there with you again. 👍 Enjoyed the adventure as always.
Great time with a dear old pal.
Woo buddy!!! I'm about to hit some parts of the Florida Trail myself, mainly the Suwannee river section. Thanks for all the info over the years!!!!
That trail intrigues me. Watch out for gators!!!
Just returned from a trip to Indiana. The colors were incredible. Thanks for sharing this trip to WI, Shug. I can't resist... whenever I or my wife says the word "early." It just makes both of us smile and chuckle. Thanks for the great connections.
Whooooo EARLY Buddy))))))
Love ya Shug! Thanks for sharing the TENSA TREKKING TREEZ. I will go grab one. Fall is the best time of year to hike. Less people and cooler temps. The smell of the fallen leaves...ahh....
The leaves on the ground were really producing that wonderful leaf pew. Was a lovely lil' trip. Good sleeping in the cool weather.
Thank you for sharing your adventure! I really enjoy your channel. Cheers!
Whooooo Buddy))))
Shug your amazing man. Love the outdoors
I am an underachiever. Proudly! Thankee.
Aww. What a treat. Something to raise the spirit. Thanks shug. Keep on keepn on. Ian
We hiked short and visited long.
Shug, beautiful Fall hike, and...
OH MY STARS - WANDER'N FOOL!!! 🌟
Look'n good buddy! Great to see y'all!!!
We sure had a "wanderful" time catching up. Lollygag for the win.
Thank you for another video, Shug. I was super happy to see Wanderin' Fool!
I too was happy to get to see him and catch up.
Great piece of engineering Shug👌making for more cozy camping 🎩.You’re tarps set ups always look super 😎cool .
Thankee. I do love the art of the Tarp
Thanks a bunch for taking us along.
Righto~~
Love ya Shug! You are the MAN!!!
Thankee.
My favorite time of year. Nice
I think everyone feels the same!
Been a minute Shug! Good to see you out!
I'm about a video a month now. Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
So thanks to your videos I recently got to enjoy the 11.5 hour sleep you have bragged about all these years. I’m 50 not in the best shape and hit the trail with my oldest son (26) for a overnight trip here in Tennessee. We encountered rain and cold temps but was prepared for both. I have never slept so good on the woods as I did that night. Thanks for all your information and insight over the years. Planning a winter camp soon here in Tennessee to see how that goes…
I do so love a story like this!! Whoooooo Buddy))))
Wow those stakes look like a vampire slayer tool😆
That is an added feature.....
White noise. lol I love my friends like that who love me unconditionally!
We former circus clowns never quit taking the mickey at each other.
Shug that was a great podcast, I really enjoyed it thank you! 🤓👍
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
Love your funny attitude.
Just having fun it the woods. The World is just too serious these days.
I got to watch your life broadcast with the guy from Florida.
I loved hearing your podcast with the Hammock Hangers podcast just today with Skunkape...always a treat.
My girlfriend and I go hammock camping and tent camping and we're avid adventurers just like you. It was such a treat to watch you and Kenny hike out together.
My grandson is staying here with me now since my husband passed.
He's got me watching all kinds of stuff on UA-cam. "Forged in Fire" ... And I in turn have him watching some of my stuff too.
Please don't ever stop doing what you're doing. You're an inspiration to all of us.
Nice to have the grandson with you in this what must be a tough spell for you Rebecca. Kenny and I laid in the hammocks and talked for hours. Was good for my loner soul.
Man what a beautiful place to hike an camp.
It was a nice trip with an old friend.
Just rewatched the setup in your yard. I'll bet it feels a little funny when the pole wobbles just a bit when you swing. Great video once again shug 🤘🏕️
I learned to tighten the whoopee sling guy outs more and it will quit moving if I rock. Still getting to know the set-up particulars.
Hi Shug! I had to pause the video. I am glad I am not the only one that appreciates the positive effect of wax paper on certain food. The set-up with Superior Hammock is great. I can't tell you the number of times that I have seen the perfect spot, but it lacked the requisites for a proper hang and had to pass it up. The rigging, with this unit, appears to be straight forward and lite. You set the standard, my lollygagging friend. Woo Buddy))))!
Wax paper sure does do something. Maybe it is just a good memory but glad you like it as well.
So good to see another great video from you Shug, it amazes me how similar the Woodlands where you are , are so similar to where I am, Scotland! Anyway keep lollygagging Shug.
Righto. But we lack butter tabs!
“To be silent the whole day long, see no newspaper, hear no radio, listen to no gossip, be thoroughly and completely lazy, thoroughly and completely indifferent to the fate of the world is the finest medicine a man can give himself.”-Henry Miller
Just listened to the podcast...very insightful... I think hammocking is a comprehensive style for inquisitive people but has a very simple answer... don't take life so seriously, the timer isn't going to stop ticking. Enjoy your stay at the paradise inn
I started watching your videos couple weeks ago. I've been hammocking for about 6 years and your channel is a gem, speaking of tips and advices, humour, music and nature. And now you just pull out Czech candy out there, and that warms my Czech heart! I have a fiancé from the US and seeing Czech candy and people there is really encouraging to me! Also now working partially as a teacher, I really have to entertain my students in order to keep their attention and you certainly know how to do that, almost like it's your living... Thanks for the video Shug!
That Czech is delightful. I still have some stashed and awaiting my next trip. Waiting for snow to finish melting and trails to dry up. Entertaining was my living but now I am retired and pensioner. Loving it~!! Whooooo Buddy))))
@@shugemery Whooooo Buddy!! (y) :D
Early! ☕ Good to see you & Wander'n Fool out there enjoying life in the woods.
All secure in Sector Montana. Whoooo buddy!
Was real good to hang with an old friend. We laid in the hammocks and caught up for hours.
Looks like a great getaway. Good to see the Tensa Tree in action. That really does open up a lot of possibilities.
I got it case I do do a thru-hike next year on SHT and it will reduce my fear of not being able to sleep in my hammock to restore my old body.
@@shugemery And that trekking tree is no doubt lighter than using a single leg of your regular Tensa as a spar. Beats trying to hang on trees that are 50' apart!
@@shugemery how does it feel like to have poles with different weight?
@@rpsota23 To be honest it was unnoticable.
You look slick modeling in a Tensa Shug. Very innovative product. Thanks for sharing,,,,,,,,,,
Thankee. I got it case I do do a thru-hike next year on SHT and it will reduce my fear of not being able to sleep in my hammock to restore my old body.
Awesome video shug. Seeing your old buddy got me wondering about storm crow. I just did a trip in gros morne newfoundland. Fall camping is my favorite too!
Stormcrow stopped by my house about 2 months ago. Brief visit but he is alive and well.
@@shugemery that's great to hope to see him you videos sometime. Thanks for all the great content and inspiring us to get out there.
The only word that comes to mind that rhymes with hammock is bannock! There’s one for your bantered quips! Enjoyed the video. Nothing better than watching two old coots like me enjoying a their traipse in the woods!
Oh...good bread!
nice video. like those tensa treez
They are very useful.
Shug baby 😂, great video; I always look forward to them. I can’t help but mention the BBQ smoker in the background; being a BBQ man, I miss watching your cooks. I know it is about hammocks and the trail, which I love watching and learning. Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher, musician, inspiration, and just plain fun to watch.
Have a great safe day, sir.
Roger “Oregon”
Confucius says one must open the gate before riding a one-wheel bike 😂
I've cooked some ribs but just a rack and on my PK grill. Going to do a late Fall BBQ but will cook on my cinder pit over all coal as it will be a 3 butt cook and relaxing.
I forgot my gate is not self-opening!
Thanks so much for the Tensa info! I do a lot of motorcycle camping, and I often find myself at campsites that are not suitable for hammocks. If I have to go to ground, I may as well take the tent.
I have a Tensa 4 stand, Tensa Solo and now a Treez. The stand keeps me hanging in no-hang areas. Nice to have when needed.
Thanks Shug! I needed that this morning. Happy Friday. That technology was new to me. Thank you for the breakdown at the end. BRILLIANT!
It has gone through many changes but has been around a while. I did a video on them in 2016 but they have come a long way and several other ways to hang hammocks as well without trees or one tree.

@@shugemery I was just getting into the linked podcast… it sounds like you have really paid your dues to get to the levels you are today. I’m currently paying mine, and learning from mistakes and victories. Or as I like to say building character. Hopefully, I will always be in the learning phases no matter how experienced I become. You are an inspiration to me and the possibilities of truly experiencing life. Thanks again for doing what you do.
@@webb618 All those dues were fun dues!
@@shugemery I know right!? I’ve challenged myself to get out there for an hour every work day for a year no matter the weather. Started November 30, 2021 and haven’t failed yet. I have to make a new tarp before it storms again. Have you ever tried to waterproof one of those canvas painters drop cloths?
@@webb618 I went with silnylon from the start. The canvas waterproof tarps are pretty heavy for backpacking in my opinion.
Looks like y'all had a blast. Wisconsin is very pretty. We played the Blue Ox festival this past summer. My first trip up that way. We'll be back this summer. Going to make time to look around a little more.
I have Blue Ox my to-do list someday. Looks lively.
Great video 👍those tensa trekking treez look a great bit of kit. I could do with a set up like that all the way over here in the UK 💪 keep up the good work 👍
They are nice to have for sure. They ship international ya' know~~~
Great Video Cuz
Much obliged Cuz~~~~
Thanks for another great trip out Shug! This is my favorite time of year to go hang and search for the Maple King. Any chance we might encounter him again soon? Love you man, I’m 57 and I want to be you when I grow up! ❤️✌️
I hope to encounter the MK. Always.
That desert reminds me of the shelf-stable poundcake that comes with certain MRE's and they are delightful indeed!
Wow. True! I've had those.
Yeah haha loved the end!
Not ridden into the fence on the monocycle for a while. Felt good. Real good.
@@shugemery controlled accidents always are
The NCT in Wisconsin is underrated which keeps the foot traffic down alot.... which is a good thing IMO. If you get a chance, hike the section from Mellen to Beaver lake. All the flavors of the Northwoods with Fir, Spruce, Maple, and Birch. Stunning Greens, golden yellow, and blazing orange and reds.
Years ago did a Hammock Forums Hang from Porcupine Lake to Beaver Lake campground. Was real nice and easy-is hike
Now he’s making his own pop tarts. Another feather in his cap for this renaissance man.
I needs me some sort of peanut butter kid food from the hammock. They were pretty good too.
That pole is brilliant
I got it case I do do a thru-hike next year on SHT and it will reduce my fear of not being able to sleep in my hammock to restore my old body.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Buddy for Friday night.
Right backatcha~~
Golden glade, Wanderin', off camera chit chat, candy and uni fun
guess that pretty much covers it!
Wanderin' is your calming goat...everybody needs one.
woooobuddy
Calming goat....perfect!
Nice video, glad to see you on that unicycle again! The Tensa Trekking Tree looks great. I have the NoGround poles from Raftintigger, the Tensa 4, and the Tensa Solo, but somehow I still feel like I'm missing out on something, gotta have those Trekking Treez now ...man, this is a disease. I took the Tensa Solo on a hike in Greece a few weeks ago and I was very happy to have it, but it is a bit heavy, so it's dead weight on my back until I get to camp and put it to use. Great vid BTW!
I have a Solo and now the Tree. Great for backpacking as it is duel use!
Sean glad to see you out on the trail not abusing your rotator cuff! Mis ya at the fair!
Haaa! Missed being there and you too. We always entertained the crowd together!!!!
Rotator cuff is not even noticeable...even as I beat my 64 year old body up.
@@shugemery You know, if you do end up in a wheelchair, we can do the long planned two man act, the Idiot and the cripple
Just got back from a 2 night Canadian Hammock trip. Got down to -1°c! Good times!
PS. I’d love to hear “in the Pines”. You’d sound great singing that one!
I too love that song and have jammed it a lot. I will!
I think it will please you - thanks to your videos I spent a fortune and my warbonnet blackbird xlc dl with UQ protector and winter top just arrived from USA. Outside cca 41F, thick fog, I don't have underquilt, I don't have virtually anything but hammock. I DON'T CARE, it's FRIDAY 😀😀😀. The only think I will miss will be WHITE NOISE 😀Best regards from Czech republic and LONG LIVE THE BRUMIK
Nice...I hope you enjoy that hammock. Make sure to read their set up instructions carefully for the best hang....www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hammock-setup.pdf
Especially getting the footed higher.
Throw a pad in there to keep you back and buttocks warm and good sleep to you.
Děkuji
@@shugemery thank you 🙂. Back from first overnight trip. Wintertop gets insannely wet. Nobody told me, that if I miss hammock when trying to sit in, that I will end up sitting on the ground in UQ protector...As well trying to lay Down to the hammock and then to slip into the sleeping back is very intensive cardio excercise😁. After all, it was my best night in last ten years maybe...
@@rpsota23 Yes, socks can get quite moist on the inside from condensado. That is why I never use one. Plus I got into hammocks to be open. I like to see the woods. Even in Winter. Try using your sleeping bag like a quilt. Much easier. ua-cam.com/video/qUq01fUeRbs/v-deo.html
Loved the cartoon like crash at the end...
Not done that in quite a while. Fun for me.
That porta-tree is a pretty cool idea
I got it case I do do a thru-hike next year on SHT and it will reduce my fear of not being able to sleep in my hammock to restore my old body.
Wander'n fool is back!!! It's been a minute since we've seen you in a Shug vid, hope you both are doing well and enjoyed the trip!
Did me good to hang with him. We had the hammocks close so we could lay around and catch up.
@@shugemery There is something to be said about catching up with old friends on backpacking trips, no noise, no distractions, doesn't get much better than that!
I'm a thankin' that bear would be right nice with a cuppa joe. As always Mr. Emery, much abliged for the tag along. Bless those we hold dear. WOO BUD-DAY! 😝
Sure was good with the tepid tea. Coffee would have been better but I did not want to be too awake so I could snooze 11 hours in the hammock.
Nice video but I'm just glad to see you on the old single wheel again! Take care Shug.
I thought it was about time.
Good to see Wanderin' Fool in another video. Woo buddy!
Whooooo Buddy))))
Fall is great, kinda separates the wheat from the chaff.Just got back from a 4 day colorado trail hike and saw an average of 2 people per day. Fall is magical.....WHOOOOOOOOO BUUUUUDDDAAAY
We were surprised to so only a couple of day hikers.
I cannot believe I saw BRUMIK in your video. I am from the Czech republic. Just ordered blackbird xls dl with uq protector and winter top. On my first trip I will not be alone for sure. Brumik will go with me 😀. Hard to get trekking treez pole in Europe but looks like it worths to try to get it. Pass my regards to Milan.

All if make fun poor wander “cold dinner” Ha! Shug you are best man, see you ona trail soon buddy!
Righto Milosh. Maybe this winter...
I’ve been asked a million times on reddit if I’ve heard of you. I do a lot of solo northern MN camping. Paddleboarding trips in the BWCA, winter camping in superior national forest into the -30s. Happy I was suggested your channel. I recognize every spot you go!
I haven’t camped with someone in years. I have no social media except for photos of my journeys that I post on Reddit. If you ever want to hit the backcountry let me know.
I am not too much of a Reddit lurker but I do hear about myself mentioned on there once in a while....wild.
My preference is solos as well or to just go with some dear friends.
If I run into folks on the trail organically it is nice but I normally don't meet up with folks much anymore unless I have made acquaintance. Hope you understand. Thanks for hopefully understanding that. Appreciate you commenting.
Shug, I like dem clam diggers you wuz a wearin’. :-)
Just rolled up legs as my shins like a view.
Looks like the Porcupine Wilderness NCT. I spent. A few days in the Rainbow Wilderness this week . It was perfect fall days
Righto~!
Did the Rainbow a few years ago and want to return.
nice to see Wander'nFool again. White noise!
It sure was~
