Today we attempt to pair our Vietnam Blue a gorgeous asian fossorial spider
these are notoriously harsh on the males which often do not make it out alive this appears to be part of the breeding courtship with these spiders, this male was no exception and does get eaten at the end of the pairing, but I would ask you to watch the full video to appreciate the full courtship of these amazing group of spiders.

This channel is awesome. The information is always interesting and so different from other tarantula channels. Daves take on their care and husbandry is world class and the camera work and editing is so professional too. Daves little beasties deserves to be the go to channel for all keepers.

@@DBZTCG I collect the moss from the wild and use it as it is in sheets complete with all the creepy crawlies that live in it too .👍

Just the size of her should have sent him running. Their drive to mate must be crazy. I just watched the egg sack collection from this Mom, so at least it was fruitful. Every aspect of this hobby is incredibly interesting. And I must say Dave, I'm impressed at how many male spiders you have saved with such precision. Hats off to you my good Sir.

Hello Dave and Camera Lady! That courtship was particularly fascinating to watch. The tease, the invitation of the male. I'm sure he was very frustrated. It was a display of nature's dangerous dance to procreate more generation's in order to survive. He may have given his life to do so but he also has provided nourishment to his offspring so they survive and the mother to stay healthy. Wonderful video Dave and quite a amazing. Truly a magnificent "danse de la mort".

Cracking video very fascinating to watch. Good job on the editing and uploading I know allot of creators tend to shy away or cut the footage short at the end if the males eaten. All part of the process should rightly be left in and shown imo. Hope you get a decent sack from the pairing :)

Great vid dave... Wouldn't be suprised if this is done to ensure she has a good meal after a successful pairing in prep for laying a sac to help condition themselves in a the wild with food entering there burrow being few and far between... Only my own theory but makes sence
If well fed before hand its amazing how much condition they hold onto but in the wild the spiders are not so well fed.
Super educational vid. You discribe it so well and I think you are absolute right. Nature designed the male to be food to make sure to give the babys the best chances.

Have you ever noticed Chilobrachys males using leg #2 to pull the female's abdomen forward? I've seen the behavior several times with huahini and fimbratus. It's not very successful as I've never had a successful pairing, and most end up just like this one. You are correct in saying the females are right harsh on the males

I REALLY liked that underground view Dave!!! Have you thought about making a few enclosures that lend themselves to different camera views? Try different shapes and look into smaller lipstick cameras to get interesting angles. When it comes time to clean or rehouse that's when you break everything down and try something else. If they web up the cam that's fine. It's only meant to be a short experimental shots setup.

Some of the UA-cam content creators absolute disgust me with their harsh treatment of their spiders...or their glaring ignorance (tarantula kat for example). I’ve been binging your videos since yesterday- great stuff! I’m fairly new to the hobby (first T late 2018) and I really like sharing tarantula videos with my partner (he thinks they’re cool lol).
So little funny story, this afternoon we got into a little argument over something silly. It’s later and I forget about it and I show my partner this video.
So now a bit ago, I’m in my bed still binging your videos and feeling particularly lazy under a cozy blanket. So I’m calling out to him to bring me a drink but he’s not listening/answering me so I’m going “hey what gives?”
And then he goes “oh no! I saw the end of that video. You’re not gonna lure me in there like the girl spider did” I laughed so hard LOL😂😂
