  • In Destiny, where the boundaries between light and dark blur into a canvas of cosmic conflict, lies a realm few have seen and even fewer understand: the Pale Heart. Today, we dive deep into this mysterious domain, where memory weaves the fabric of existence and the rules of reality are rewritten. Memory may be the key and new lore from Queen Mara hints to how this place works.

Today we discuss the Pale Heart and it's Key the Witness seeks! This realm is full of mystery and MEMORY. Does Cayde actually exist here? or is he a memory? Is this place connected to the Awoken and their history? Let's check out some new lore

if cayde is indeed just a memory it would be such a cool way of story telling. we long for cayde so he manifests when we enter the pale heart and here he is now but is it really him? not even he knows. this makes such an interesting and sad dynamic that really messes with the players heart and makes way for a lot of questions.

Basically if you think about it, we know darkness preserves memory and with it potentially cosciousness (shadowkeep, season of the haunted and strand lore) but only with the light that can be made manifest. Cayde is a good example of this. Ikora had visions and conversations with Cayde during season of the Haunted. He was rather irritated at Vanguard allowing his killer to roam free and fraternize but it never went beyond that (this will be fun in TFS). With light and darkness merging now he can be properly restored even if only in the pale heart due to his physical body being destroyed. If this turns out to be true the implications are enormous... just think about all the red ghosts on the moon.. maybe that's why the Witness wants to grab the controls off this first so nobody could bring back all the souls he extinguished in his quest for vengeance and have an army of countless of civilizations he put to the sword stop him.

That was a nightmare. Nightmares are pure darkness and exist to torment people. Also, it's fairly confirmed that the reason Cayde is back is because Crow accidentally made a wish to Riven

Nightmares at what people think the people would react. Zavala's wife was a good example of this. He thought she would never forgive him but in reality she wanted him to forgive himself for years. Or when Ghaul was angry at Caitali but when he was restored as a memory, he was kinda proud of Caitali and how she has grown and how she now has a light bearer on her council. The reason Ikora was tormented by Cayde is because that's what she feels like Cayde would be like to her because she knew who Crow was but did nothing. (Thankfully that is. I love this dude so much. No homo of course)

Seeing as the Witness is an amalgam of his entire species, would their memories be shaping things as much as the Witness's own? Or would theirs be subsumed, suppressed as so much else of their individuality must be, to give the Witness a singular Will?

I think that Cayde might be a memory, and not actually there. Hopefully he is actually there, but I'm thinking not. If you read the Trespasser sidearm lore tab, it shows that Cayde is Ikora's personal Nightmare, like how Ghaul was Caiatl's and the first time we see Cayde in relation to the Pale Heart is a conversation with Ikora. Seems kind of too intentional. Maybe after we defeat the Witness either in the Raid or the 8th mission after it, We may be able to manifest something that's within the Pale Heart to the real world and we may choose Cayde in the same way we freed Crow from the Spider's servitude in Season of the Hunt. idk if Cayde'll have the light or a Ghost, or he'll be like Eris and Osiris, Lightless Guardians who lost their Ghosts.

I would say it's a safe presumption that "this" Cayde in FS will have the Light; in the trailer he talks about feeling the corruption of the Witness, among other things, which insinuates a connection with the Traveler, ie a connection to the Light, ie Light-bearing

no we made a wish to let crow get in, only one person can go through the portal though, but crow has a connection to his sister, mara sov, like they can literally feel each others heartbeat, and the connection has a bunch of other convenient-for-the-plot stuff going on with it, so somehow we will use that connection to transport ourselves, the vanguard, and potentially our allies into the pale heart of the traveler

6:28 a memory is physical and we see the potentials related by neurons reflecting the differences or predictions or imagination. Thoughts aren’t outside the head but if you think of the light and stuff on the outside shaping you then you understand a little that it’s both, sharing. We are not separated and sharing the differences using the differences. Words aren’t non physical, thoughts are neurons sharing with the body to predict relatives.

I think to understand the Darkness, you have to understand this fictional universe on its own terms. the universe of Destiny operates on the assumption that information can exist independently of any kind of physical substrate. Strand is the minds of all beings made accessible without interfacing with their brains, Stasis is the ability to bring anything to a complete standstill.

The game is made from the real and the real is always changing/sharing the differences so I’m not lost or whatever. Destiny doesn’t operate on the unreal, the real is used to show something unreal, a potential by relationship. I wasn’t saying anything wrong or whatever so why jump on me?
