- Sir Bobby Charlton is without doubt the greatest and most respected Footballer England has ever produced.
He is the top goal scorer in the history of both Manchester United and the England National Team.
His abilty to beat a man, pass and shoot with either foot made Sir Bobby Charlton the perfect midfield playmaker. - Спорт
It's ALL about opinions and I agree with Bobby Charlton that Duncan Edwards is the greatest English player ever. As Charlton said there was nothing Big Duncan couldn't do and that ( and not just winning trophies, although Duncan won more than anyone in his short career) is the true gauge of how good a player you really are. Bobby was wonderful also, but Best had more natural talent. Manchester United have been truly blessed to have players of this calibre. Thank you Bobby for what you have done both for United and England and for signing your autograph for me back around 1972ish!!!
Sadly I, and I suspect you, cant honestly compare Charlton with Edwards because the great Edwards died so tragically young. Charlton we are lucky enough to see in videos like this. All we can say is Charlton was the complete player, two great feet ( can anyone say which foot he favoured? I cant! ) electric pace, great balance and strength, plus the ability to play game after game without injury, what an athlete! I dont agree Best had more natural talent, they were both blessed differently. Charlton's incredible ability was natural too, allied to hard work, such as practising with both feet, working on his already great pace etc etc. Alas Best was not able to maintain that sort of discipline nearly as long.
@@Bayshuck I respect your opinion. For me the reason I chose Bestie for natural talent is I can't think of any footballer from any generation who had the skill set that he had. Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Cruyff etc None of them were proficient in ALL areas like Bestie was. Passing, shooting, sprinting, dribbling, heading, tackling, left foot, right foot, scoring.
He also did all this whilst playing on ploughed fields with complete nutters flying in and trying to break his legs.
But there is an argument for Charlton which I accept.
Fantastic footballer with an amazingly powerful shot with BOTH FEET ! Modern footballers take note ,even George Best said he'd never seen anybody glide past a player as easily as Bobby Charlton ,high praise indeed !
A Rolls Royce of a football player, beautiful to watch. Equally capable with either foot.
i realize I'm quite randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to watch new movies online?
He made the opposition’s players look as if they weren’t trying with the way he was able to glide past them with such ease. A wonderful player.
My footballing hero as a kid. Aside from his phenomenal shooting, passing, two footed skills, fair play and modesty, what most people don't realise is how quick he was. He seems to glide past people, but he had real pace. I remember watching the TV show Superstars, in the late 70s and he won the 100m easily and was around 40 then.
His only weakened was dribbling. His dribbling was not on the same level as Messi, Maradona, Ronaldinho or even his teammate George best. It was good but not exceptional.
Thanks to this video I realize how good he was a very complete player, he can pass and dribble with both feet. Today rarely see these kind of players.Lets not forget those days the ball was hard
And the pitches like farmers fields
@@kenwoolley3003 Yes
What an incredible player, so intelligent, dedicated and talented. His long shots seem to accelerate rapidly, something special.
There has never been an English player even close to Bobby Charlton, apart from Duncan Edwards who was taken so early bless him.
Playing mostly with a heavy leather ball. Often on mud soaked pitches or snow. Rarely shooting from inside the area, unlike today where players try to walk it in . Sublime passing when spraying the ball all over the pitch like arrows finding his team mates. Fantastic bursts of acceleration to slip away from opponents. He practised every day kicking against a wall with his "weaker" leg to be truly two footed, unlike the spinng tops playing today on one leg! Quite simply THE MASTER of football.
A great footballer, all love and respect for Sir Bobby Charlton
Sir Bobby had the best long-shot of any player I have ever seen. He would grace any team from any era.
+Eric George I agree and this video documents it. His shot, like a laser. Wonderful stuff; today, tomorrow, forever.
Rick Snyder Well said sir!
Roberto Carlos
@@aranyaism What about him?
He had a cannonball of a shot the power he could generate was insane ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Gorgeous footballer. He's like a ballet dancer; so agile and graceful.
The Greatest Ever.
My all time favourite player, a true superstar, super hero and a true gentleman. I love him..
footballers nowadays are mainly 1 footed. painful to see them check back and lose the initiative. Charlton, Hoddle...2 footed geniuses.
Bobby. I love you. Fantastic technique; about 200 years from where we are now!
Absolutely fantastic. What a player. Happy 79th birthday, Sir Bobby.
Sir Bobby Charlton was the greatest Inside-Right/Inside-Left the world has ever seen
Thanks Bobby, you did well and made us all proud of you.
Someone must analyse how many assists this genius had.
GOAT without question.
Number of assists! Top Notch Player......
I love watching Bobby Charlton's cannonball shots for goal
The body swerve by Law for Bobbys thunderbolt was unbelievable!
Bobby Charlton, George Best and Dennis Law. All great players in their own right and the likes of which we will never see again. But out of all of these three Bobby Charlton was the most complete player.
Great video collection by the way, and excellent collection of the early stuff. Here's my opinions on Bobby Charlton the legend. First of all we could easily extend this to Britain's greatest player ever, then if there was a best ever European 11, he would be in the starting 11, he might even challenge for a place in an all time world 11 but I'm not sure. Remember lots of his dribbling was done on bobbly pitches. If there was a best ever two footed player he would surely be in the conversation. And finally, watch his running style in the part of this video, I sware it was Ryan Giggs before Ryan giggs. If you agree with at least half of that at least, then we are talking about one the best footballers ever, with all the medals a player and a gentleman like him deserves, in a league of football royalty. I salute you Sir Bobby
The two Leeds legends John Giles and Eddie Gray who both played against Bobby reckoned he was the best player in the English league at the time . Yes, they both said he was better than George Best.
@@greengrass811 Giles said he was the best player he ever played with or against.
He was loved, respected and admired for all his wonderful goals but above all how he played the game. He was never sent off and the only yellow card he received was rescinded. Puts all the dirty cheats in today's game to shame.
The player of ingland of the Best times !!! Bob big player in history of football !!
I was a teenager in the 60s, but I can't tell you the impact Best, Charlton+law had on me personally in those halcyon days, when people flocked to see them. Laws courage and fantastic finishing. Bests dazzling dribbling and incredible balance and finishing. And of course Bobby Charltons tremendous shooting.Literally everyone wanted to see them.10,000 added to the average gate when they were in town.Nobody in my experience had such a powerful shot with both beef. That's the rarest of gifts. Honed over literally years of practice against a brick wall apparently in Ashington. He had real acceleration and genuine pace, gliding past players with consummate ease and unleashing those unstoppable drives. Theres never been a finer midfielder coming forward than him. He sort of glided over the pitch with style and grace. My particular favourite was the Mexico goal from 30 yards out. Kenneth Woldtenholmes magical commentary. Charlton!!! He might try one!!!!! A BEAUTY.!!!!
What a player!!
left foot right foot it didn't matter and what great athleticism went past people like they were not there.
Very similar to Cruyff in the way he played the game, this video shows the pedigree of the man!!
In my humble opinion (and being of a certain age!).......I saw Bobby Charlton play in 1966, was mesmerised and, as a child, I decided that Man. Utd. were going to be my team - all because of him.
The nearest player for England to get near to him was Gascoigne, if hadn't have f***** up so completely.
His weak foot is stronger than the vast majority of players today!
Britain’s best ever
Complete player
The greatest English player I’ve ever seen. Remember the first time I saw him at Roker Park in the sixties.
Whenever he got the ball there was a silence around the crowd there was an aura about him, he looked as though he was on castors the way he glided across the pitch.
It says something about him when his goal scoring records for England and Manchester United have only been broken in recent years and those records for a midfield player.
Imagine how good you must be if you hold the goal scoring records for both England and Manchester United at the same time.
It wasn't just the shooting power. Look at his balance on the ball and his acceleration. He would have fitted in perfectly to today's Barca team, he could pass either long or tiki-taka. Look at all of that, and then look at the old, heavy boots, the old, heavy balls, the pitches which today would be classed as unplayable, the tackling from behind....and the fact that (as was common in those days) he smoked!!
Can you compare him to Messi and Ronaldo? Well get Ronaldo to play a few matches in Doc Martins, kicking a small medicine ball with a 1970s Uruguayan defender up his backside on a park pitch in Salford in February....after chuffing a couple of packs of B&H...and then we can make a comparison!
All I know is that he's the best player I've ever seen in an England shirt.
+paul witts The guy was a footballing genius. Rooney isn't fit to wash Sir Bobby's kit.
Rooney is much better. This guy would be on the bench for yeovil town in the modern era
i am lfc fan. bobby charlton greatest players for england fullstop a legend respect.
England's best ever midfielder and one of the best of all time, period... Great player and excellent video 👌👍
rooney can,t lace charlton boots. pure legend . ligthing speed. the man won only worldcup for england and rst of 66 teams. charton was best player at worldcup. rooney only scored one goal in world cup. owen scored more and shearer. charlton desrve to called sir charlton massive respect and humble man.
Not sure if you're still around since your last upload was so long ago, but I wanted to thank you for your wonderful channel.
Ballon d'or
English Cup
European Cup
World Cup, he won everything that a player can win
One of my countries greatest player John Giles reckons Bobby Charlton was the greatest player he ever played against . Bare in mind that this is a man who played against George Best , Pele and Johan Cryuff , He says that most of his team mates and fellow professionals reckoned is Bobby was the best . Giles trained with the busby babes before the crash . As great as the Busby Babes were it was Bobby Charlton who he was in awe of.
If you compare Paul Pogba of today to Bobby Charlton . Pogba is a pub player in comparison.
Sir Bobby would walk straight into any England team and be the main man. His 49 goals would be much higher if playing now.
Warren: did you ever see Bobby Charlton live? If you had, you may have noticed his body was absolutely sculpted, perfect, incredibly balanced ... powerful, muscular thighs and abdomen ... without working out in the gym, without the dietary supplements of today, without ... and tactically, football was very advanced, and ultra defensive, which makes the accomplishments of Charlton and his generation (Pele, Eusebio, Garrincha, Best, et al) even more formidable, when compared with today's over-rated ballerinas.
+djforoughi I couldn't add to your comments, Bobby was the best English player of all time and would get in any world 11 I saw him and to compare gerrard to him is a joke
Class with a capital C....
A true legend. ....
Looks like an actual player very impresive as a barça fan i like to see footballers like this❤️
surblane vision, skill and determination.
Made Man Utd and England tick.....
true class in every single way
BRILLIANT
With out doubt, England's greatest player. Not only is he the best attacking midfielder England have had, he's the best left winger aswell.
I never realized he was such a great dribbler
respect for bobyby charlton great player.
Great, he played in a position like Di Stefano.
He had shoot, header, long passing, dribling, the best english player I have seen.
And on he goes...on he goes!
Explosive speed.
MY IDOL AND HERO
O Bobby Charlton era um grande jogador mesmo.a gente não sabe se é canhoto ou destro.habilidade com as duas pernas.
Forgotten just how good he was. Just look at him glide past players. The only other English player I ever saw do that was probably Gazza at his best. Great assists - he was an attacking midfield like Gerrard, I suppose - but he had the best long range shot I've ever seen. Those who compare him to the likes of Rooney are talking through their ass.
I have his auto graph
I love that clip where at 8.20 he takes the ball deep in midfield runs through midfield, uses the the tackle to propel him forward , when he gets near the goal he sees two defenders ahead of him , other players would loose it at this stage but bobby flicks it over the defender and moves in to space and when the ball drops he plays a lovely pass to the left wing . Its just genius . That flick over the defender is very gazzaesque. Perhaps gascoigne learned that move from bobby and put in to practice in euro 96.
Gazza never had the ballet-like swerve of Bobby.
The ball he played at 4.26 !outside of his left peg!not many can do that with such ease.
Goal at 6:36 is an example of his leading the way for how the likes of Robson, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard could one day become goalscoring midfielders.
Master of the off-the-ball run, plus much, much more.
An actual legend
he is a bit like Cruyff, Beckenbauer and Messi. technical ability, goes past players as though they are not there, fast, great dribbler, deadly shot, finishing and passing. In his younger days of his football career he played as a inside-forward and it was only because Jimmy Greaves burst onto the international scene that his goal-scoring stopped becoming rapid.
George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best
A footballer tends to lead when dribbling with his stronger side, no matter how good his weaker foot. I'm convinced Charlton was left-footed.
Bobby Charlton greatest player ever for Man Utd and England the perfect footballer
George best
Yes!
Best English dribbler ever
George Best said that he was the only player he had seen who could dribble better than he could.
Matthews and Finney were both idols of Bobby as was Jimmy Greaves. All of them played with the old heavy balls on muddy pitches and yet dribbled like magicians against defenders who got away with murder in those far off days. Greaves scored the most goals out of the four of them but Matthews and Finney created opportunities for others to score as did Bobby. They were not selfish players even though they were legends. My late Father who saw all of them play reckoned that, had the Munich disaster not happend when it did, with Edwards, Charlton and Tommy Taylor in the World Cup squad for England in 1958, England would have won the cup that year. Had Ramsey chosen Jimmy Greaves for the 1970 World Cup instead of Geoff Astle, even though Bobby and Jimmy were past their peaks, England may have retained the cup against Brazil because both of them were geniuses and hard to mark. When Bobby was taken off with some 15 minutes of the game against West Germany remaining, Beckenbaur was unleashed and the rest is history. Imagine if Greaves had to be marked closely at the same time as Bobby. With players of the quality of Geoff Hurst, Colin Bell and Martin Peters around them England would have had a great chance of reaching the final. That England team had the best defence in the tournament, particulary as we had the best goalkeeper in Gordon Banks (sadly not available for the German game). Bobby and his bother Jack are both on record as saying that they felt that they could have beaten Brazil in the final. Imagine Bobby then with three World cup medals! I have heard Booby say that the best player he played against in his career was not Pele but Puskas of Hungary. He was also a two footed player with a powerful shot in both feet from long range. He was also a genius whose international career with Hungary came to an end due to the uprising of 1956. Bobby was a very similar player to Puskas, so no wonder that he admired the great Hungarian.
Nice footage of Charlton doing more than just hitting twenty-five yard+ thunderbolts. Though those are always welcome as well. ;-D
How are you? Sad we lost touch, but I blame that on UA-cam changing format. Would be lovely to hear from you, old friend.
Bobby Charlton was a phenomenal player but England's greatest is the other Bobby. Bobby Moore.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The main reason England won the w,c
His goal against Mexico won England the World Cup
The greatest English player of all time and by a considerable margin. Anyone who says Moore really is talking out of their backside. I’m not exaggerating when I say that’s like saying Puyol is better than Messi. Don’t get me started on comparisons to someone like Rooney. He wasn’t fit to lace Sir Robert’s boots.
ONE OF MY IDOLS I WISHD IM FINNISH BOBBY CHARLTON 112+17. 173+18. 191+18
best trio ever: Charlton, Law and Best far beats Messi, Iniesta and Xavi. because it is more special and original. Football should only be a British sport because by sharing it we have spoiled the beautiful game with so many English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish legends
¡¡Grandísimo jugador!! Para mí a la altura de Di Stefano y desde luego, muchísimo mejor que Cruyff o Eusebio.
For those not informed Sir Bobby survived the Munich Crash!!
This player was as good as any. I don’t have the best player off all time. But sir Bob was close to perfection. Read Johan cruyffs views on him. Accolade from one of the greatest
He is a true complete attacker, imagine if he was in his 20s now
It would have been coached out of him I'm afraid. That's the way english football has gone, coach the kids so they do what they're told rather than leave them alone to develop their natural talent. The light ball in modern football disguises an awful lot of poor technique, you don't have to be as good anymore, I feel for the goalkeepers to be honest.
When footballers were footballers not athletes
Makes him look like a mixture of Messi and Johnny Rep
ONE OF MY IDOLS AND HEROES. I WISHD IM FINNISH BOBBY CHARLTON 112+18. 170+15. 177+14. 173+19 83 RED CARDS
Hidden gazza and charlton England’s best midfielders
bobby charlton for me true artist better then george best.
Great video. Wonder if he likes The Cure?
I have it on good authority that Sir Bobby liked a water pistol during his early days with United
I've watched this video a few times ,why Cure music ? Strange ! The editor must be a big fan !
@@richardzincke5720 can't be Sir Bobby can it? Imagine him singing along to 'Boys Don't Cry' or mellowing out to 'All Cats Are Grey'
@@michaelroberts7374 No,can't imagine Bobby doing that 😅
Really? Have you heard of Duncan Edwards? What did Bobby Charlton himself say about Edwards?
Bobby was a humble man and not a good self promoter (to his detriment in terms of legacy). Big Dunc was a phenomenon himself (given his age especially) however you cannot say he was better than Bobby given what Charlton went on to achieve. Sadly we’ll never know just how great Dunc would have ended up being.
When players didn't run & slide 50 yards after scoring a goal.

but even then he was much better then Kenny dalglish and he is the best britsh player of all time
bobby charlton more midfielder and no 10 role. he scored tons of goals for england. this days for england teams none can match charlton and 66 team.hope england and rooney win euro 2016

Very nice video and thank you ziggystardust405. For the imbeciles who feel it necessary to comment without having seen Sir Bobby Charlton play, please resist the urge to show your absolute lack of knowledge and incredibly poor taste in commentary. Well stated Paul Witts. The rest of you must be under 50 years of age and as such, not qualified to comment on generational comparisons. CR7 is a joke ... touch him and he falls, cries and whines. Showing off his thighs when he scores from 40 yards? Bobby Charlton scored 40 yard belters for fun, left AND right foot, had bigger thighs, better technique, more power and played on pitches on which CR7 would not be able to control the ball. Not to mention how heavy and hard the ball used to be, not fluffy and airy like today's version. As for English players, none better than Sir Bobby. 900+ first class matches, one yellow card, acceleration, pace, balance, two feet, won the lot, including a World Cup. Messi? Nope. CR7? Not a chance, not even the Euro's on home soil (2004). The problem with being in love with the world's greatest sport is having to tolerate a world full of idiots who insist on passing judgment when they have seen nothing but 10 or 15 years worth of action. You cannot compare unless you have been there ... live. Stay quiet, watch and learn. As for the Pastor, well what do you expect from British scum? Lost the Empire and still haven't got a clue.
Bobby is Best midfielder ever, the only player who comes close to him is Scholes.
Grubby pitches, heavy ball, proper football
Looking at this video there isn't one player in the premier league playing today who can compare with this guy . Kevin De Bruyne is the most comparable but he isn't fit too lace Charltons boots . If Charlton were playing today he would give Messi and Ronaldo a run for their money.
Run for their money? Ronaldo literally isn't fit to lace his boots.
@@peezebeuponyou3774 think you’re doing Ronaldo something of a disservice there my friend. And that’s coming from someone who knows just how great Bobby was. Both certified all timers.
@@realfootballtalk6909 He's a stats machine. Charlton was on a different level. And I watched him at OT from 1965 until he retired.
Booby was the best!
Given the fact there was probably a better group of physical specimens around in those days, but that the game wasn't as advanced tactically the diets were poorer and players habits weren't so good, combined with poorer pitches and kit a heavier ball that you dribble with better but had to have more power to shoot with, I would say he is on a par with say your David silva's, kroos, bale, Klinsmann, Gascoigne and Pirlo's. Probably not quite up there with your Maradonna's, Ronaldo's, Pele, Cruyff's, Laudrup's or Messi. If you watch the video I think the decisiveness of his play is incredible the turn of pace is brilliant the shooting is probably very rarely matched, also his passing looked superb. Rooney and Gerrard as good technically as they are, don't really reach his level, I think him and Gascoigne from what I've seen are the most decisive and imaginative English players. Honorable mentions include, Sol Campbell, Bobby Moore, Banks, Owen, Fowler (though he never reached his potential after injury) Scholes, Lineker, Hunt and Greaves. (probably a few missed off that list).
Barnes, and Shearer.
***** Prizes don't make you a good player.
+The Command Freak But Charlton was an amazing player.
"...on a par with say your David silva's, kroos, bale, Klinsmann, Gascoigne and Pirlo's". Get a grip- seriously.
You honestly do not have a clue sir. Comparing Charlton with a player like Kroos 🤦♂️ this is one of the greatest players of all time and very much belongs at the same table as the likes of cruyff, maradona etc.
Il gol a 11:28 lo segnò all'Olimpico di Roma: contro l'URSS. Io ero dietro quella Porta......
Why have the original commentary, if you are going to bury it underneath awful non-music? In the meantime whilst Booby might have been the best player I ever saw, he knew that Big Duncan was the best.
Nobody talks the music soundtrack

some of the moves he produced would be talked about for years the now!, and a shot with both feet, and he probably go paid 20 pounds a week, that part is only a guess
At his peak he would have been on around £200 per week. In today's money around £2K- literally loose change compared to today's wages.
