Denis Law - The King

- Denis Law is arguably the finest footballer to emerge from Scotland.
He is Scotland's joint Top Goal scorer with Kenny Daglish with 30 Goals however he managed this is far fewer games than Daglish.
His quicksilver reflexes in the penalty area allied with his great play making ability outside of the penalty area made him perhaps Manchester United's Greatest Ever Centre Forward and first The King of the Stretford End.

I am 71, old git, life long Orient fan but in the 60s I went all over the place to watch the greatest front three that ever lived: Law, Charlton, Best. Pitches like bogs, tackles around the waist but their brilliance always shone through. Can you imagine Messi and Ronaldo playing on those surfaces and those tackles?
Denis Law is one of my heroes he was Scottish I'm Scottish he was at his best at my favorite club man utd. He won the ballon d'or in 64'. I have a autographed photo framed in my room. I've read his book, and I live in the U.S and I'm only 13 and I know a whole lot about him that is why he is one my heroes and I will never forget him. I never even got a chance to even witness him play funnily enough. I've lived only about 1/7th of his entire life and I know all these things. So I have to say thank you to The King Denis Law!
Sad to say Denis has been diagnosed with dementia , my hero, so sad.
its crazy that my dads cousin was that good also i share the last name law with him
Ta bom mas fds
Unbelievable. He seems to have had everything ... passing, dribbling, finishing, vision, change of pace AND so very very determined! Not a bad combination.
The man was wonder on the pitch . Greatest scottish footballer ever in my view .
Electric....he was only 5 ft 9 in but brilliant in the air too...never see his like again in British football
Refreshing to see a goalscorer just raise his arms, no fancy routines that require a choreographer and weeks rehearsal.
@@ianmckenney9080 Indeed, let’s hope that he wins his next battle!
Best header of a ball ever- no contest. It's a shame there aren't more of his overhead kicks on film. You see very few these days- Denis did them for fun. You can keep your stats, Denis was out on his own as a goalscorer. It's a shame he had serious cartilage problems, particularly later on in his career, but no one scored goals like 'The King'. Loved the man.
This video is a revelation - the best compilation of Denis Law's wonderful talent that I've ever seen. He was just a brilliant all-round player. There are too many incredible snapshots here but the 1963 FA Cup Final shows Law at his scintillating best - all over the pitch - dribbling, passing with majestc finesse, shooting, heading and, most crucially IMO, linking the play with such passionate urgency. He came so close to scoring one of the greatest hat-tricks ever seen at Wembley or anywhere else for that matter. When all of Law's magical attributes are put together, I have to say that he was a greater player than either of his two illustrious team-mates - Bobby Charlton and George Best. I bet that team ethic was learnt under Bill Shankly at Huddersfield. Now I can see why Manchester United were never the same without him and why, among a trio of all-time greats, he was called 'The 'King'.
Nope, Best was the Best, Law was the King.
@@PaulBriden There is no denying Best was a genius but he had no longevity like law or Charlton! Looking at that compilation of clips of Law's talents he had everything! There are so few players in the game today that come close to holding the attributes that he had at his disposal. What is amazing is he is the only Scot to win the european footballer of the year award! Now when you think of all the great players who he was up against just shows how special he was! You had Eusebio , Puskas, Baxter, Charlton, Di Di Stafino just to name a few!
@@roderickogilvie709 I agree Law was a tremendous all-around player whose overall ability is frequently overlooked in posterity. He was much much more than a great goalscorer and if he had been English, would be held in the same level of esteem as Bobby Charlton or Bobby Moore. He did not get the opportunity to grace a World Cup at his peak, he was 34 and well past his best in the 1974 World Cup.
As a longtime Man Utd fan Denis was always my favourite player. Probably the most popular player ever among fans and former players who played with him or against him. Pleasure to watch and lovely person. Don't make them like Denis anymore!
Me too Ray, my absolute No.1 United player. Had the pleasure of chatting to Denis at a football dinner some years ago. He was just magic to watch, a buzz of anticipation going around the ground almost every time he got on the ball.
OUR DENIS - best remembered for his 2nd spell at City - sending United down and out of the top division. DENIS HAS DONE IT!
Still best remembered for his 2nd spell at City, (where he began his career) scoring the goal that sent United down and out of the top division - DENIS HAS DONE IT!!!!😂😂
As a Liverpool fan, law was a magical player, so entertaining to watch
Denis was the complete striker. One of the best headers of a ball I ever saw. I remember one goal he scored against Forest at Old Trafford during the run-in in 1967. It was 0-0 and the Forest goalie was playing a blinder. He pushed a point-blank Law effort round the post but from the corner, Denis, with is back to goal, leaped up and scored with an incredible bicycle kick. It took a special goal like that to win the game. Hail to the King.
Member it well.66/67 season rivalry with Forest was fantastic.
The guy was just electrify to watch, the game fizzled and crackled when he had the ball
Beautiful description
I once went into a pub for my dinner with my ex wife near Xmas in Stockport .and it was early and when I sat down I noticed the table had reserved on it .I thought the place is empty and what a load of rubbish having a reserved sign on the table .I got up and moved to the one next to it. my ex wife went to the toilet after the meal , and then we were going to the doctored where she had an appointment .while she was in the toilet Dennis law came in and sat on the reserved table and he said to me all right son..I said am I alright I'm sat next to one of the greatest European footballers of the year and he gave me a hearing untill my ex wife came back and then I told her off for being ill when I could have had the afternoon with Denis law .I followed utd all over .and when I told him about a goal against Everton he scored he said are you sure it was me .it was that exciting the way you described it and he was great company and thank you Dennis that made my day moaning about a reserved sign on a table only for it to be for him .a great and iconic footballer.i had that much I wanted to say to him and so little time
In his bio. Lawman, Denis said he got a really bad knee injury playing in a World Cup qualifier for Scotland against Poland in '65 and he was not the same player after a botched operation. He playing for the next three seasons with terrible swelling occurring after games. Eventually he had another operation and missed the '68 European Cup Final because of it. The clips on this video of Denis from when he joined United in '62 to '65 show what a brilliant all round player 'The King' was.
Only scot to be voted European footballer of the year and from a time when there were a lot of great scottish players he must have been something special.
It all depends on what other good players were around at the same time.
Denis Law King. I had a photograph of the goal against Burnley, at 4 57, for years. the look on the Burnley players faces! This was an age when attacking players played on pudding pitches and had lumps kicked out of them. Shankly said Denis was the greatest player he had seen. Good enough for me.
KING always will Be ❤
Celtic fan, my Idol was Jimmy Johnstone but Denis Law on the ball was a sight to behold, Sir Matt Busby wanted to sign Jimmy but so glad he stayed at his beloved Celtic. Johnstone ,Best, Charlton and Law could have filled a 200,000 stadium.
Brilliant compilation of action from my all-time favourite player.
I am 48 years old. And I have never seen Law in his prime. But this video has amazed me. Thank you who posted it. I have always as a kid thinking Denis as a goal scorer. But after this video my opinion has changed. What a player.
Denis was the greatest...he had everthing as this wonderful video demonstrates. He was arguably the greatest crowdpuller British football has ever seen ... he would put thousands on the gate. A true football genius and legend.. he will never be surpassed.Denis is truly loved by fellow players and fans all over the world..long live the King!
No he weren’t
What a fine fine player. Fantastic video.
one fine footballer thats the lawman awesome denis a pleasure to watch this recording
World class, thanks.
The Law Man, my favourite player of all time. The King.
Man U could do with such a swashbuckling player as him right now. (Feb 2018)
left foot, right foot, head, overhead! He could knock it in the goal any way you like!
And generally speaking there was no simulation (pretending you had been fouled) back in those days when it was a much more honest game.
Great video! Thanks.
Very well done, love the music too !!!!
Fearless , two good feet, very good header of the ball with tremendous spring in his legs, heavy ball rough pitches didnt matter most teams tried to attack ,Denis and the rest , it was a pleasure to watch ,much thx.
Excellent .. Thanks
Am 72 saw the King play with Best and Charlton what a team we had there never be another King like Denis
Great music!!
great vid,thanx for uploading
He's my #1 my hero and THIS IS THE GEORGE BEST COLLECTION of his total talent, style, bravery, quickness personality and ...ohh so good ..so good. I wish I had all these matches in full--crap quality or not to relive this golden time. Denis--- my man forever.
Thanks for this.
thank you... thank you .... my hero
the lawman retired before i was even born but of all the great footballers who played for our great club he is the one i wished i'd been around to see.
brilliant player, awesome goalscorer but what gets me is his cocky, ever grinning, jack the lad swagger.love it when he salutes the crowd when celebrating-no wonder he's the king of the stretford end.
great footage here, thanks for the vid.
great video and awesome music selection!!
WOah fabulous play
Had no game these days like this
Denis Law was one of the greatest players in those days which is equivalent Lionel Messi of this generation!!! This coming from life time Liverpool fun!!
Possibly the most thrilling player ever to play in this country. A dazzling talent, a lionheart, forever adored at Old Trafford, a true legend. The King.
Goodness, you know your stuff. Thanks very much!
Remember griping the end of my football shirt sleeves to emulate the king.
Me too.
My hair stuck up ala Denis too and still does.
Magic Dennis... One of the best in Football History.
The man was majestic.
My Hero as a boy. He had the lot . I can still remenber Hampden erupting after one of his many goals.
What an incredible player!
Oh fabulous. So many bits of him prior to his knee injury. He was for a short while after the operation a very good player. But for four or five years previously he was every bit the equal of Charlton and Best. I sometimes get the impression that people see him as being just the junior partner. He wasn't.
So, thanks for that, it was great to see Mr Law in his pomp.
Maybe it's because i'm from Manchester that I love United so.Maybe it's because I'm from Manchester that I follow them where ever they go,I get a funny feeling inside of me when I see George Best score.Maybe it's because I'm from Manchester Where THE KING IS DENIS LAW . Sang that song every time Denis scored. Tony Flynn (Old StretfordEnder).
+flynnt1953 58 so did I magic
+shay brennan great days indeed
Every time?! DENIS HAS DONE IT! Ha ha ha - he was always a blue.........
@@any1younger .Where does he watch his football ? OLD TRAFFORD ! Denis will always be RED
denis was a footballer whd inspiered generations of up and coming young footballers what ever level they played at the king.
Absolutley Breathtaking...one person who everything ..Denis was the King ....priceless in todays market
The Legend!!
Great video.
Great video of a great player. I came to support United after the Munich plane crash all those years ago. Denis was a sort of a swashbuckling player so to speak especially from this video.
Thoroughly enjoyed that - the Lawman was more than just a great goalscorer.
The GeorgeBEST collection of my hero, the one and future King, Denis Fucking LAW.
Like De Stefano, Puskas et al there's precious little video of them.
Thanks for this.
THANKS.
To sum up....WORLD CLASS....great predator in front of goal... being Scottish I a an only dream of having another lawman in a Scottish national team ...
Awesome....
The "LAWMAN".....Can still hear the chants resonating around Old Trafford.."Denis Law king...Denis Law king...Denis Law KING......
I watched Denis play many times. He was a gifted footballer and blessed with lightning fast speed, just take a look at 12min 30 secs on this Video and you will see his speed, balance and control. If he was in his prime today the mind boggles at what he would be worth. When he was a 16 year old playing for Huddlesfield Town Matt Busby offered to buy him for 8,000 pound to bring to MU but they would not let him go - another example of the vision of Sir Matt.
simply the best.
LEGEND!!
Elvis was undoubtedly the King of pop music. Denis was and always will be the King of football. At the time probably the biggest fans favourite not just at Old Trafford but throughout the country including opposing players as well as fans. Fiercely competitive with a sense of humour thrown in, very unassuming and likeable off the pitch. They don't make em like Denis anymore.
Elvis was Rock and Roll not pop
Greatest Scottish footballer ever in my view.. world class
a great player and showman very flash but very entertaining
Though I'm a blue, Dennis Law was the king!
Sir Alex Ferguson brought wonderful strikers to Old Trafford, but none, I repeat none of them surpassed Law. Acrobatic, flamboyant, quicksilver, a fierce competitor, a wonderful midfielder, deadly in the box, he electrified crowds everywhere.
Adored at Old Trafford and by Red Devils everywhere, he will always and forever be The King.
We Aberdonians are proud of Dennis. A great great player. Selfless like all the greats. Funny witty guy too! Long live The Game....
Brilliant player, believe it or not, once scored 6 goals for MAN CITY yes MAN CITY,in an FA cup game against LUTON TOWN.They did not count as game was called off because of weather conditions.Still and all one of the best players i ever seen.
Your right Patrick. But I'm also sure the result for the second game was 2 - 1 and he scored the one goal.
Dennis Law big player , crack , imprevisíble, visionarie, abilited! ! Mem goal !! The very specials fifas players !!
The first player I have seen in black/white that actually looks impressive - he would still be class!
DENIS LAW KING !!!!!
Woaahhhhhhh Denis denis we'll walk a million mile's for one of your goal's my Denis
Denis Law The Lawman was and still is my hero. I rest my case
You never forget the players who allowed you to dream!
MAGIC! ! !
legend
I was at Hampden in 1973 when we beat Czechoslovakia to qualify for the 1974 world cup he was immense he is arguably Scotland's greatest ever player.
Formidabile Law!
Great collection. All it lacks to make it complete is the back-heeled goal for City in 1974.
Great player. One of my all-time favourites. I read his autobiography as a boy and he seemed a decent man. Not only that, his achievements in terms of goalscoring were not far short of Jimmy Greaves, another hero. If anything, Law possibly had the better all-round game.
denis law, the man with lion's heart
Best Legend Pes mobile. ❤️
This era had the Scotland squad featuring Pat Crerand, Billy Bremner, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy Henderson, Ralph Brand, the Gemmills, "The Ghost" - John White, the master, sorry MASTER of midfield Jim BAXTER. These guys were the support acts, the Star of the show was Denis Law! Just the best striker of an era when goal scorers were appreciated for what they were. Scorers of Goals. Don't "track back" - don't get back and help out the defence - don't think you have to defend in any way.......you are there to score goals! Only Goals, right?
king of the stretford end
"Quicksilver" great word.
The Lawman laid down the law in the box...iconic
Denis Law was a clinical finisher for Manchester United. It's a same that he, George Best and Bobby Charlton broke up the Manchester United trio. Denis was just clinical and he couldn't stop scoring.
Some striker!
Mine too will Scotland ever see his like again,
Denis was "electric"!
Dennis topped kenny by being more consistent in a Scottish Shirt a Great Pro
what a class act , I despair that my country, Scotland has struggled to produce top quality forwards in decades, we have to go back to Law , Dalglish and Andy Gray for a time when our forwards were feared.
+samgub Andy Gray?????!
+ samgub The Scotch masters, are responsible for the Argentine & Uruguayan sides. Infact uruguay's world cup winning template can be traced back to a scot who took the old Queens Park Glasgow combination passing game there. He also played for the Uruguay national team. If it wasn't for his knowledge base they wouldn't of had the style to win the 20s Olympics and the 30 World cup. So in a major way the Scots are responsible for the spread of football up through the Americas to Brazil. Scotland in my opinion is the home of football, as if you consider the pass they've been more important to the modern game than anyone.
It shows how far Rashford still has to go!! and the rest of the team!!!
9:25 - 9:27 goal is utterly exceptional. No wonder he had ligament trouble. To twist at this angle at a slow ball and hit it like an arrow into the near corner with such thrust and sharpness. Wonderful athleticism and courage.
George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best
I also believe that he is the first alive ballon d'or winner
Every ballon d'or winner before him has died
In the years up to 1965 he was the top forward in England along with Greaves and one of the finest in Europe....if not the finest. If Charlton had class and Best was a wizard Law had charisma in buckets and just watch The King when he scores....no stupid egomaniac goal celebrations.
for those who've seen Denis Law playing live, not from recorded videos, after watching quite a lot of Denis Law videos I've strong impression that if he's in his 20s these days,he'd still be among the best in the world,am I correct? I mean those awareness, reflexes, close controls, accelerations, would not be out of place in,say,Champions League Final of 2017
I was lucky enough to see him live. As a kid seeing these legends every week was a gift (from heaven?).
You are right in thinking he was the best. If he was injured and couldn’t play it was never announced until just before kick off, because the crowd would have been down, for sure.
It says everything about how good he was and how much we loved him, that when he came back for that fateful game against City, the Stretford End sang “we’d walk a million miles for one of your goals Denis” and we meant it!
@@bocajuniorboca must've been heavenly for you, sir
man utd need more players like Dennis and sir Bobby
Den. The main man. Printfield Terrace. ALC. Shanklys fav. And the nicest man on the planet.
The United Trinity. The deadly trio. Denis Law, George Best, and Bobby Charlton.
law was the best box player there's ever been ,. Could sniff a goal out of nothing, instinctive, and deadly ,...along with Jimmy greaves...Britain 2 most naturally gifted strikers .....EVER
Law always seemed to have space especially in a crowded box. It was almost as if he was invisible to defenders, a skill that came from being able to read the game so well. Great to see them playing on swamps and skating rinks (sometimes in the same match!)
Hi what a fantastic compilation, can I ask where did you source all this great footage?
Can't help thinking that if he was English, he would've been SIR Denis by now!
SAF is scottish... why can't Law be knighted ?
celsis01 Was Bobby Charlton knighted?Bob Paisley?Brian Clough?etc etc,was an anti-football thing, not anti-Scotish,but if you want to keep a chip on your shoulder, than on you go.
Bobby Charlton was knighted
celsis ,,Jimmy Greaves was a better player than him and he wasn`t knighted
