  • A compilation of a large number of the record 49 goals scored by Bobby Charlton for England - interesting to note how many of them were with his trademark long-range shots.

Amazing when you think how heavy those old footballs were.

I love watching Bobby Charlton's cannonball shots for goal, especially from a long way out.

The present England team should hang their heads in shame, Bobby was the true England star who could score with either foot, a real master of his game and time.

Bobby was an Inside-Forward either Inside-Right or Inside-Left. He was naturally right footed but was also two-footed with his left arguably became the greater of the two. Long-range vicious thunderbolts, long and short passing, great dribbler, great stamina and intelligence. A true No.8 and No.10 under the 2-3-5 system( No.1 goalkeeper, two full-backs- No.2 Right Fullback and No.3 Left Fullback, three half-backs- No.4 Right Half, No.5 Centre-Half, No.6 Left Half, five forwards- No.7 Outside-Right, No.8 Inside-Right, No.9 Centre-Forward, No.10 Inside-Left and No.11 Outside-Left.

Great compilation I think the first goal shown was Charltons last against Colombia in 1970 and the last one shown was his first against Scotland in 58 assisted by Tom Finney with that lovely slow hanging cross.

Other great goals are his volley against Scotland on his debut at Hampden Park in 1958 when we beat them 4-0. Bobby scored our third goal.
1966 against Mexico it was both his and England’s first goal of not just the match but in the entire tournament. And what a great goal it was. 2-0 it ended.
1965 against Scotland at Wembley Stadium- he scored the first goal of the match and it ended 2-2, England being reduced to nine men through injury after having been 2-0 up.
1962 against Argentina in the World Cup in Chile. We beat Argentina 3-1- Charlton as you see in the video was playing outside-left.
    From the free kick.
Maybe a right footed shot goal commentary
1966 at Hampden Park against Scotland. It finished Scotland 3-4 England- Bobby Charlton scoring the winning goal.
Another personal favourite is the headed goal from the edge of the box.

Marvellous, marvellous footage for which many thanks indeed. But why, oh why obscure the original commentary with random background music? The now ubiquitous imposition of music onto archive sports footage is one of the most unnecessary media crimes of the modern age. Am I the only one who thinks this?
    Rant over!

My favourite goal of his in this video compilation was the second last goal.
“England have switched their forward line, for a moment it looks like Finney’s outside-right, Charlton’s outside-left. Now Haynes to Charlton... it’s this great man Charlton and a great goal!! Oh what a goal!

  • @Ryan_Giggs97
    @Ryan_Giggs97 4 роки тому +1

Football back then was so much more exciting because teams did not sit back and defend but went all out attack and played five players in the forward line. Teams would still attack when they were only 1-0 up in the 90th minute and would not be satisfied with a 1-0 score line. And... there were plenty of goals. Six, seven, eight or nine goals in one match would be scored so regularly, that it would not surprise anyone about the score line whereas if three or four goals are scored in one match nowadays it is a surprise. I hate seeing overly defensive and negative play with too many playing in a defensive manner. I love winning but if it comes at the expense of entertainment or lack of it i.e. not scoring plenty and out and out attacking with five forwards then otherwise it becomes boring and not worth watching. I hate the fact that teams do and would settle for 1-0. In fact I would demand my money back if that was the case.
