- This compilation is dedicated to Sir Bobby Charlton's illustrious career - arguably the greatest footballer that England had ever produced & one of the most adored players in the history of Manchester United. It includes his goals, assists & other skills like dribbling, passing and tackling. A midfielder by trade, he really could do everything with the ball - score incredible goals, dictate the game from deeper areas, dribble through players in one of his trademark ballet-esque runs forward... His cannon-like shots was world-famous - German press nicknamed him "Boom Boom" for them. And, of course, he was a man who stepped up when needed the most - helping Matt Busby in rebuilding the club after the Munich tragedy, leading England to their first and only World Cup title in 1966 and scoring 2 goals in the European Cup final of 1968 (Man Utd became the first ever English club to win it).

I've had a lot of time on my hands this Christmas and I must have watched this glorious sequence of yours 20 times now. It's so wonderful. In all my watching football for over 50 years no one has surely scored such a staggering amount of spectacular goals. Rare to find bobby over doing the celebrations. Once or twice, he can't help himself and does indulges himself, when it was a real cracker jack. Starting off with the Mexico goal was a superb choice I feel. His best for me personally. It's a great edit all round. Can't wipe the smile off my face in the first 30 seconds. Absollutely brilliant.
The complete attacking player. Passing from anywhere, scoring from anywhere. A true great for all time.
Quite simply the greatest English footballer to ever put on a pair of boots. Absolutely gutted. I feel a part of my youth has gone today.

I've always been partial to Greavsie but every word you say is utterly true. It is hard to put in words what has been lost by his passing.
I've never had any reason to watch or fawn over Mr. Charlton. However, iafter watching these clips, is it just me or was this gentleman George Best and David Beckham rolled into one ? Surely week in week out United's greatest ever player. The adulation and reverence are, blatantly, truly deserved. Couple this with his ambassadorship for Manchester United and English football and you have a man deserved of the title LEGEND. What a man, what a wonderful life. This coming from a Chelsea fan. Today's overpaid under performing, under achieving "superstars" should take a look at Sir Bobby Charlton and hang their heads in shame. R.I.P. Footballing, and life, legend.

If we all live to be 200 we will never see a better English player. The horrible pitches, heavy balls and boots made of thick leather, yet this genius looked like a ballet dancer with the shot of a bazooka. God bless Bobby and long will his memory remain with us
Muddy pitches, wet heavy leather ball, boots like a coal miners . Yet still such skill , pace, power, touch, deception. Charlton had it all, in spades.

A genuine world class player, had a shot like a missile, the stamina of a horse and also had an exceptional passing range an all time great in any era.
Im 31 so obviously never seen the man play. But I must say, with his power, sharpness in front of goal and passing ability he and Wayne Rooney are quite similar in so many ways.
he was a very classy player but the state of the pitches then was awful.....doubt they would have been an asset to a player of his quality

Rip Sir Bob, the greatest English player ever. Could do it all, back in the day when you could be kicked up a height for 90 minutes, also done on pitches you wouldn't see at pub level now.
More than anything else he was a true gentleman, one of a kind and known and respected the world over, at one time if you travelled abroad and spoke to locals, when they found out you were English they would say "Ahh, Bobby Charlton", mentioned before the Queen as a landmark of England. All that for a lad born in my native north east, a backwater now.

Not to mention the weight of the ball they played with back then and he could still put his foot through it with that kinda power..I find if there is one thing that never gets mentioned when comparing the greats of today with those of the past..it's the weight of the ball they had to play with..never seems to come up in the discussion..yet they play with beach balls today compared to the ball in the eighties even..never mind the ball in the sixties!
When wet no doubt about it, dry I don't think the balls weighed much if any different. That said how often was a pitch dry in England between September and May haha.
You watch old footage of players heading a ball in the middle of winter, on a pitch made of mud not grass and it looks like a punch from a heavyweight boxer.@@endevourdaze

Exactly. For about 45 years watching football I’ve seen literally a couple of players equally good with both feet. And now I am seeing Charlton.
Bobby's balance, poise and athleticism was phenomenal. What a joy to watch him in full flow.

When you think of the pitches the heavy ball and boots
Today's lot would be crying in their soup.
Thank you for this post which only scratches the surface. I was lucky that my dad, a Utd fan from the late 40s, took me to see him and I must have seen close to 100 games live. His passing was incredible. He would curve the pass so it could be gathered by the recipient using the inside or outside of the left or right foot. He hit balls over the line of the defence like wedge shots, with back spin. If you look closely at the clips you'll see this. He could hold the ball indefinitely. Much is made nowadays of the press. Charlton killed the press. I've seen him shake of posses of challengers, swerving this way and that before turning and hitting a killer pass with them all out of position. Not the sort of thing that made highlights but were bread and butter. He was so fast but his elegance disguised this. All of this on pitches that were often muddy.
Forgot to thank you for the selection of corner kicks. This is another thing you cant see on film, the way he curled them either away or inswing. Which reminds me that with the light balls now used it would be a struggle to contain Charlton to a goal a game. The "goto" shot now is the one that imparts hook overspin with the inside of the foot. In Charlton;s day no-one could get enough speed to beat pro keepers from 18 yards. Finally, he never got injured seriously. His balance was incredible. I once saw him tripped, he did a forward roll and carried on but the ref had already blown.
Everything you said is so true , 1 of my heros gone but never forgotten , and i dont know an english player today or foreign that can hit a ball so good with both feet . If anybody can name 1 let me know please .
Nobody hit them old, heavy footballs like Bobby.
They punched through the air straight like an arrow… no matter how far out he was they lost zero momentum as they flew into the top corner and with both feet too.

He was like a quicker two footed scholes with a more powerful shot. Surely he must have one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Bobby was some player, glided across the grass with the ball at his feet, great vision and passing and a hammer of a shot, with either foot. Also a top man, I saw him leaving White Hart Lane in his car and get stuck in traffic, people were still asking him for autographs through his car window and he signed every single one. A true legend. RIP Sir Bobby.
Whenever they describe a current player as 'great' I can't imagine what they would describe BC as. Best player I ever watched.
What a footballer, would have been one of the worlds best in any generation. The ball striking is a joy to watch, absolutely incredible.

The goal in the WC against Mexico showed that. Glides along the turf with his left foot and you’re thinking, aren’t skilful left footballers lovely to watch and them bam! Switches to his right and smashes it in from 30 yards.
@@johnp515 That ability forces players to challenge him earlier than they would leaving other attackers open for a chance at goal. So many goals scored by others were at least half thanks to the threat posed by Bobby.
A brilliant player.And the power in his shots.How many players can hit a ball with that sort of power TODAY...AND WITH BOTH FEET!!! It’s also amazing that Bobby,Bill Foulkes and Harry Gregg were able to carry on playing at such a high level, after losing so many teammates in the Munich disaster.Something like that would have finished a lot of people off mentally,but it shows how determined they were,along with Matt Busby and Jimmy Murphy to keep the club going in the face of such tragedy.Incredible.

Best British two-footed passer of the ball, coming off both feet, I've seen. He hit his passess, with such sublime accuracy & beauty. He also ran & glided past player's like a gazelle. Really elegant, ball player, he was.

It wasn't so much how hard he kicked the ball, it was how 'cleanly' he did. Considering the state of the pitches in those days it's quite remarkable.
The great Bob. I love how in a number of these clips the commentators assume it's going to be a goal from Bob even though they were no 'gimmes'. They were right to do so.
Franz Beckenbauer was arguably at his peak in the 1966 world cup, but even though he was a world class player he was asked to man mark Bobby in the final - if ever a testament to how revered Charlton was and will always be this was it. RIP a true legend.

As a teenager in the mid 60s Manchester United's trio of law 😁, Charlton and best were making headlines every week with their brand of effortlessly, swashbuckling football. People flocked to see them when they were in town.It was football of a different kind. Either law's amazing goal poaching, George Bests dazzling dribbling balance, and finishing or Bobbie's spectacular shooting.You couldn't go wrong watching them. On Bobby in particular though. He had real acceleration and pace, he used to glide past players with ease.And, such a rare skill he had a tremendous shot with either foot. That's a rarity,in fact I can't recall another player who had that amazing ability. He was always superbly fit. And,he'd have easily played in the modern game . The México goal from 30 yards out was my particular favourite. I was watching it live and Kenneth Woldtenholmes wonderful commentary sticks in my mind. Charlton might try one!!!!!? A beauty!!!!! Magical.

Fabulous footballer from the golden era of football. Best, Law and Charlton, Moore, Greaves, Pele, Garrincha, Eusebio, Cruyff Beckenbauer Lubanski and Rivera and so many many more. And modern day fans think football today is better? No chance.

Completely agree with you James.This modern day brainwashing that football before the creation of the Premier league in 1992/93 was slow,poor,unskilled and nothing like football today angers me.What doesn’t help is when pundit/presenters like Gary Lineker, who played league and international football from the late 1970s into the early 1990s,seem to have fallen for this bullshit.This constant ‘PREMIER LEAGUE THIS,PREMIER LEAGUE THAT’, and that Messi & Ronaldo are the greatest footballers...EVER! REALLY!!! You named a list of players from the past, and two of them,Pele & George Best, are the greatest players of my era.I would put them up against Messi & Ronaldo without question.I’d have loved to have seen how Messi & Ronaldo would have coped in the 60s,70s or 80s against the sort of hatchet men around then.Messi’s Close ball control and low centre of gravity would maybe have seen him survive, but Ronaldo would have been an absolute target for assassins like Tommy Smith, Ron Harris,Norman Hunter or ‘The Butcher of Bilbao’,Andoni Goikoetexa,who nearly ended Diego Maradona’s career, with a brutal ankle breaking challenge.That sort of challenge plus the studs down the back of the Achilles’ tendon,were allowed then,not today.Referees then would have just said,’Get up and get on with it’.Like you said about footballers of today being better than some of those you listed...NO CHANCE!

Football is a compact game of gravity, and players of another age were decked well, with BLACK boots. So when you watch them on the screen or otherwise, the viewer's attention is concentrated on the ball alone. Adorning players with purple, yellow, green, red, blue, pink, white, and all sorts of colours, their multi colored boots fail to provide uniformity of view and are disturbing to view. These frolicsome multi coloured boots have no place in a serious game of football. Another side effect is that when players use boots of any other tone than black, they appear to be floating on the turf, as though they are above it. Again, this is not right. The modern game is badly and wrongly clad. Will FIFA kindly give consideration to this viewpoint and banish this non sensical farce and gimmickry?

For me he was a great person, friend, an exceptionally heartfelt and compassionate person and above all a team player with a gift to encourage and build futures. Oooooh my goodness! I've been a Bobby Charlton supporter for nearly 60 years and until I looked at this I didn't realise how much I didn't know! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH....I never realised just how skilled my hero truly was! Known for his canon shot there is soooo much more to his playing - unique skills that normally come to other players as just the one skill. The precise passing, the deception, the get up and carry on, the curve ball, GREAT on both left and right, tackling, footwork and the second sense of where his fellow players were or would be. And how better I understand the GREAT TRIO! No wonder he is a language unto himself in any country in the world - "Bobby Charlton = True Football!" Yet another tear I shed but at the same time my GREAT memories of Bobby Charlton are increased yet again. Once again thank you for putting this together!
He was incredible, and just look at the pitches they used to have to play on! Charlton, Best and Law…..doesn’t get any better than that. I met Dennis Law as a kid, he used to visit Gordon Lowe of Bristol City in the sixties. He was the king of the stretford end in those days, the nicest man you could ever wish to meet. They had real class in those days, very sad news!
The greatest compliment to give a player as great as Sir Bobby was, without googling it and just from watching this highlight reel, most of us would not know if he was left or right footed.
Here's me thinking after watching Harms' Best tribute "I've got to look more at Charlton's best moments", and here's the perfect video, on the same channel.
Robert h, law and charlton were great. But they couldnt score goals or had the ability that george best had. Best could chip a ball on an ice frozen park over a keeper with any foot. Plus best could control a high ball then lob the keeper with it touching the ground with any foot. It has to be inch perfect and the weight of the shot you put on the ball. Thats the hardest goal ever to score. Becouse the ball doesnt touch the ground once between player to player for best to control it then let it drop onto his foot and lob pat jeninngs, the famous lob in 1971 we see alot that best did againts spurs. Barry davies called it "beautiful absolutly beautiful and one of the gems of the season" and it was. Law and charlton couldnt have done that. They wouldnt have thought about doing it let alone being able to do it. Thats only a george best special that one. The wee treets george used to give us was just amazing that only he could do. And no other player. It was like God saying right george here ye are do this one now for the fans, and he did.
@@alanmctavish4802 Aye Alan, Best was better than Charlton and Law, no question. I just wish he'd had a longer career, but we all know that story. Easily the most talented we've had in NI. I remember going to his funeral and Stormont was absolutely rammed, despite the appalling weather. Must've been ten thousand in the grounds alone.

He was my favourite player. There was no front to him, he was a humble man and gentlemen. Along wíth Best and Law he really put United at the top. Sadly United is no longer an English team, but he will always be my favourite of all time

RIP I think the best British player ever, but chronically under-rated despite being voted the best player at the 66 World cup and winning the Ballon D'Or.
I think this is still the best video of his playing, as it features all the midfield stuff - pinpoint long passes, tackling, beating people, which was the reason he could run games, when others make him out as a striker rather than a creative attacking midfielder... Thank you!
BTW we won the '66 World Cup as he marked Beckenbauer out of the game, and was voted the tournament's best player (ahead of Bobby Moore and Eusebio).
We got knocked out of the '70 World Cup as he was replaced and Beckenbauer could finally play.

It was Bobby Charlton who spoiled my day in the World Cup semi-final of 1966 and later the European Cup final of ’68, but I’ve forgiven him and we are still good friends now. He’s a real English gentleman.”

Bobby made his debut for Manchester United in 1956, when I was seven.
By the time I was eight, at a time when there was practically no football on TV -- hell, many of us didn't even have a TV yet -- nobody in our school, a good 150 miles from Manchester, ever talked about football without mentioning Bobby Charlton.

I heard someone say he’s the greatest English player. So I delved in to some videos, because he was before my time. and I have to agree.
Completely 2 footed player, he had vision, score goals that were out of this world.

The one and only English Footballer beloved the world over and the greatest to wear the England jersey. Only Sir Stan Matthews rivals Sir Bobby on both counts, but Charlton was the complete footballer: great goals, incredible playmaker, cannon for a shot (never could find out which foot was better!), superb passer, dribbler ... gentleman. A GIANT amongst mere footballers.
Sir Tom Finney is the best i have seen.

So glad that I grew up in his era. He broke my heart a few times down at Upton Park, but it was easy to forgive him for both the MAN and the Player that he was. Some fantastic memories here....especially our first goal v Mexico in the legendary '66 campaign. R.I.P. Sir, and thank you for SO many wonderful experiences.
