I knew that seeing this part of the manga animated was gonna be good, but they really knocked it out of the park. I remember reading these chapters and realizing: "Oh, this isn't just a funny cute story with some drama here and there, this is going to have some very well done tragic and heartfelt moments too." It also made me understand just how much Empathy seems to be a core pillar of this story.

Aira is not the little girl that Silky lost. The little girl was kidnapped by gangsters. Aira's mother had pink hair like her, they showed her at the funeral. Silky was just confused because as a spirit she couldn't remember the details of her life, child Aira reminded her of part of it (that she had a daughter) but she mistakenly fixated on Aira, a different little girl who had lost her mother.
Not to mention ghost/spirit that didn’t pass over, carried the exact immediate conditions before their death. That concussion definitely brought memory loss.
The background of the story is set in Japan in the 1970s and 1980s. After that time, due to the economic collapse in Japan, a large number of people faced layoffs and bankruptcy. At that time, many people did not realize how bad the economic situation was and chose to borrow loan sharks from the underworld in order to start over. But later they found that not only could they not start over, they could not even repay the loan sharks, so they had to use various methods to make money. This led to the tragedy in the film that the underworld violently collects debts and even abducts children.
they didnt show it cause japanese gov has fostered a culture that chews workers up and spits them out, and instead of addressing the problem through systemic change, they made laws that forbid it to be shown and made it taboo to talk about. crazy how its still a 10/10 without the best panel from the manga
After science saru delivered an episode like this, we realized that Dandadan is not just fighting, comedy, romance, slice of life and supernatural. Dandadan has just become something special in the world of anime (and from what little I know about the Manga, there will be a lot more of what we saw today). Science Saru, please don't make Dandadan just another one or two season anime. It's an anime that deserves much more and will win over even more fans. Please do not cancel or leave the anime unfinished. Continue for many years. 🙏 To those who read this comment, recommend this work to your friends. I don't want it to be just a Peak for a year or two. dandadan won my heart
I think the only anime episodes that had me SOBBING have been Ennies lobby ( Robin's backstory and the Merry's death), Cora-san and Law's backstory, Otoko and Yasui, Kuma's backstory and now this.
The animators of this series really outdid themselves with this episode. The pink-haired girl's backstory was absolutely tragic, but this episode was still the best one of the series.
The moment she woke up feeling lost, before Aira met her, she had already turned into a ghost. I thought first this was just a souvenir but, both her eyes were fixed-on the rooftop it wasn't the case, she had a patch, which also tells she looked for her daughter for a while before... When Aira met her, she was a ghost. She was following her all along. Children are more sensitive at young age and can see things sometimes until they grow up and forget... It's when Aira connected with the ghost, it remembered its lost, then turned out into a Yokai. Aira could see, but lost her ability growing up until she get the ball... Silky couldn't attack her as Aira wasn't able to notice her. Until that moment in the school the silky lady was only following her; making sure she'd be safe as she vowed, until Aira noticed her, and activate within Silky what Yokai does to the living, who notice them... This isn't just a show; the writer knows his stuff about spirit and ghost... and the sad misery that happens to some ppl, in Japan, before they past away to the underworld-for that lady, unfortunately, this was both literal and figurative 😢
@watchdogman2777 maybe bc the anime made in a little vague about the suicide scence and the chasing scene. I think many will presume that she died on that street and the ballet was just after she's dead.
