While I still love 40K I've actually kind of fully moved on to Japanese model kits (Bandai and Kotobukiya stuff). I just feel like I'm getting wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more bang for my buck with them. The increased size also just makes them easier to do crazy bits of customization to them, which is a huge plus in my book. I'll still pick up some 40K stuff here and there, but it's probably at like a measly 20:1 ratio now.

the diference between real and super robots is not really about the politics. but about the type of mech itself. for example, escaflowne is a super robot series, BUT, its all about politics, while macross is a real robot series all about fighting aliens in space.
real robots is about having robots, that are as realistic as possible, they function as a walking tank(or in the case of gundam and macross, a fighter jet). while super robot, is more about having a fantastical machine, that is filled with super powers. more in the veins of piloting a giant superman.
now that doesnt mean every real robot is as realistic as possible, the original gundam series for example, have newtypes, which are basically psychics with prescience. while some super robots are more straight foward, fighting like a normal soldier would using more normal weaponry(like escaflowne or evangelion for the most part).
and some real robots even cross the line into basically being a super robot, like the unicorn gundam, and some super robot act in universe like a more traditional real robot, like in dunbine.

If you want fun ways to make the runners useful instead of throwing them away you can use them for custom builds, make action bases out of them and even cut them up and put them in a jar or bottle for something to put on the shelf next to your Gundam models! it's also nice seeing the jar fill with different colors the more models you buy!
Also I just recently went through the entire Universal Century timeline and It was good... But good god it's long! Took me more than a year so I didn't go insane!

This video reminded me of the time that I did a presentation on Gunpla in college. I don't remember the specifics since it was a few years ago, but I definitely remember calling it "plastic crack" and doing a bit at the start before actually getting into the presentation proper. I had a lot of fun with that.
I think that one of the best parts of Gunpla as a hobby is the ability to not know a thing about Gundam, just look around to find something that looks cool, pick it up and build it. There aren't many kits that are awful to build, especially from 2013 onwards. If anything, they can serve as a way to get into certain series, which is nice, considering not all of it is as interconnected as it might look.
On the note of Gundam Breaker, I started with a Japanese import of the first game on PS3, and that basically sealed my fate from then onwards. I personally recommend 3 with all the DLC if you can find it.
I had more that I wanted to say, but I've forgotten in the midst of playing a Gundam game, ironically.

I’d highly advise you pick a kit up, even if you were a big dum dum like me who sucked at building things.

As an intense Gundam otaku for well over a decade after quitting 40k at around 5th ed, there's some fun bits of gunpla you kinda glossed over, which is totally fine, there's a fucking ton of info on gunpla and gundam as a whole, 40k lore levels of info. Like for instance, grade isn't JUST it's complexity, it's also SCALE. Scale has a very important role in gundam, with HG and RG being 1/144 the scale of the real life unit, MG being 1/100, etc. Some MG can even be less complex than some HG out there! Metal parts are also EXTREMELY rare.
Also, very important, because of the pandemic, gunpla pricing and availability is significantly off from what it used to be, but is recovering, and using places like amazon, ebay, or even some brick and mortar stores you can end up paying double or more for a kit that was originally like $20, all because of printing, which they reprint nearly every non-exclusive kit they've ever made, even the originals from 1980! Use sites like HLJ or USAGundam for proper pricing when buying online, so you don't end up spending $100 for a $30 model like I've seen people do!
Ty for the video dude, I really hope some people into wargaming check out the hobby, because it's just incredible.

Quick comment on the nice runner layout/instructions. Look how old the kit is. Older kits often weren't numbered quite as well, didn't have english in the instructions ( although I think are generally easy to follow), and just might not quite be as nice. While with something like the new entry grade, the runners are numbered nicely, and even laid out so you can snap off the whole section that is for like, the right leg, or chest, or whatever, so you can basically get a few mini runners together when building a part of the gundam. So, in general, the newer the kit the nicer the build process, but even really old ones are still pretty darn great.

Algorithm pointed out your video, and I like the balanced approach on it, especially the perspective of "hey, you probably already have the tools you need", which I wholeheartedly agree with (even if I have a good amount of DSPIAE tools). Thank you so much for saying go for whatever you think looks cool - far too many get hung up on the meaning of grades, and if "they're ready". If you're patient, and the model interests you, just go for it! That Perfect Grade is what you want to build, and you can afford it? Great, do it! I know one of the main things parroted in the hobby is "start with High Grades", but that assumes you have little to absolutely zero skills that could be transferred. I personally build a combination of Real Grades and Master Grades - RG because of just how intricate they are, and MG's because a lot of my favourite designs are in there, and I prefer the taller size (okay, I'll admit it, it's also because the resin conversion kit bug got me gooooooood)
"I can't wait for somebody to tell me I'm wrong". The Char's Zaku II "The Red Comet" kit is from Gundam: The Origin, which is a retelling of the original story, so, I'd argue close enough ^_^ The "Gundam:The Origin" models are fun to build, relatively easy, and just as important are wonderfully detailed. They're the only HG's I've been tempted to Pokémon, because I love how they've approached that line.

    Grades in a nutshell:
Entry Grade: 1:144 scale, cheapest, easiest to build, not much detail, not much to choose from model-wise
    but has interesting colour variations.
High Grade: 1:144 scale, most assortment of models, not that high of a price for what you get, details are alright but can be lacking if you want show accuracy.
Master Grade: 1:100 scale, bigger, more detailed, bit harder to build than a HG, way more expensive and has fewer models to choose from.
Real Grade: 1:144 scale, sized like a HG, level of detail of a MG, priced somewhere in between, complexity of a build is higher than a MG (so many parts, so small...)
Perfect Grade: 1:60 scale, big boys, expensive, not much to choose from, detailing are above MG, build complexity also (but mostly because there's more parts, it's a longer build, not necessarily harder...
Mega Size: 1:48 scale, THE BIGGEST OF THEM, expensive, detail level of a High Grade, assortment is very few, sheer size it's only big thing.
Super Deformed: models with silly proportions, chibi Gundams for those who wants something silly on their shelf (or pair it with any regural model to complete "do not talk to me or my son ever again" meme).

Such a hard question to answer, a single lump of unpainted plastic made by among the single most toxic and anti-consumer companies to ever exist or an objectively better in every way option from a company that encourages you to play around with the designs rather than send lawyers anytime something remotely vaguely if you squint your eyes sorta resembles-ish their product. It's weird, I got burned out on Gunpla after 8years and roughly 150kits build.
Fled to 40k and enjoyed that for about 2 years and 3 or 4 armies. Now with point costs dropping and pricing increasing, meaning more models at higher cost, I can feel myself being drawn back to Gunpla and Kotobukiya Model Kits again.

Sprue is also used for gunpla, but often it's used to refer to the exposed parts of the sprue gates after cutting them. I guess runner is used to differentiate? But i see them used pretty interchangeably.

And a good crossover between Bandai and GW would be making a Commander Farsight Gunpla.

I might also recommend ZOIDS to you. Also a line of mecha modelkits (this time animal inspired) that's been going on since I think the 80s. They come from several manufacturers, but personally I like the Kotobukiya HMM line best. Highly detailed and challenging to build.

RGs are my favourite but Im SUPER pumped for the MG SD line, super articulated SD Gundams is all I've ever wanted!
Real grades are fine BUT cut in a clear area, so if a tine piece goes flying you can find it. Also the first Wing Zero RG is whats called a "hand grenade", I'm assuming you can gather what that means lol I need to buy some kits again, been WAY too long. Personally I'm in the hobby for kit bashing~ Youre right about the build series, but a lot of HGs are easy to bash, you just gotta watch your joints, like if the poly caps are the same size its easy swapable~

I liked Gunpla. I liked the 30-minute mission kits a bit better... but the main grab for 40k for me is the of course the tt game, magnitizing (for some reason lol), kitbashes, and PAINTING. I know gunpla "can" be painted, but theres something satisfying to me when finding and finding a great color scheme for your new squad of immortal robot Egyptians or rambo jungle fighters. Then talking about all things over some dice with buds... Dice tell stories!

Gunpla, comes in colors, snap build, posable joints, great detail depends on the grade. 40k figures, grayscale model needs paint, not posable, glue only. sells for same price or more expensive wtf ?

40k prices are unjustified especially at local shops. Gundam has a larger variety and wider market audience to boot. I was lucky to get a discounted 2005 dated 3 pack of marines for 8$. It rockets real quick outside of that. I’m not dissing on those who do the games and such but man does gamesworkship be grubby to take your money.
