Update: On 3/27/24 Syama posted on his LinkedIn asking for vfx help with a homebrew project accompanied by a short teaser for it: www.linkedin.com/posts/syama-pedersen-339b8761_looking-for-some-vfx-help-for-a-little-homebrew-activity-7178565260147138560-CsAT Disclaimer: Some viewers have reported mild siezures triggered by sounds in this video. Edit: The original creator has been hired on by GW to continue the project and contribute to others. As such the originals are no longer available on UA-cam, the project is now on Warhammer Community. Links have been updated. I'm not sure how this news will affect the future of the project, but I find myself feeling pessimistic. I hope I am wrong. Either way, this video will remain up as long as I am allowed to and I have added a mega link for this edit, sans the first intro text, at the bottom of this comment and the description. Edit2: GW in their infinite wisdom has decided the world needs yet another streaming platform, so any future projects will now only be available on Warhammer+. Needless to say, this is a disappointing turn of events. Putting the content exclusively on their own, much less popular, website was bad enough. This video itself has garnered nearly 300,000 additional views since that move. That's free publicity they would deny their artists in order to greedily sell exclusivity. To then put the content behind yet another barrier, this one now monetary and a recurring subscription, and expect anyone to sign up for it is foolish greed and I don't see many people doing it. If they do it will be in support of the artist, but I fear as always in the end they will be the ones to get the short end of the stick. Edit3: www.belloflostsouls.net/2021/07/games-workshop-clamping-down-on-fan-animations.html Tl;Dr: Games Workshop bought up most of the the creators of the most popular fanmade animation projects, put their future work behind a subscription paywall, and has now made a policy making fanmade animation projects IP infringement. possibly becos all the best russian content creators are being repressed from doin hobby work and recruited to put their quality animation into the current war for the betterment of russian state image:) there were a few projects that looked promising. Haven't heard much updates to them recently
The scary part about fighting these big boys is that even though the "enemy" did everything right - Identify the breach position very quickly and set up a crossfire kill zone right there (just look at how big the ship is in the intro, yet they were there to meet them with over a dozen men at different angles/levels), fortify surrounding corridors with heavy weaponry, ambush tactics with anti-materiel rifles and suicide bombers, long range mega gatling cannon, willing to sacrifice their own troops ... and it STILL felt like a walk in the park for the Astrates.
@@Chronaxy don't forget their tanks, artillery and the fact that unlike other horde faction like orks they have some of the best generals and strategist.
I find it extremly refreshing to have competent bad guys for a change. And that alone shows just how superior spacemarines are to any regular guardsmen. Even if you do everything right when fighting them, your chances are still slim.
Oh my... In the autocannon sniper scene i've never even noticed the sniper actually has A SPOTTER on his side... That's why the space marine fires twice... I swear there's a new detail every time i watch this masterpiece again
I love how at 5:20 the marine being held was 100% still trying to stab that dude with all his might the entire time he was frozen. Cause the second the field dropped he was balls deep in that dudes neck.
yeah, the space marine was being squashed to death and in great pain, yet not for a moment did he stop trying to kill the psyker. that's scary and cool
It’s such a good display of both the IMMENSE power psykers can wield (singlehandedly suspending and slowly crushing an 8’ dude who weighs multiple tons in power armor and just ripped half of a ship’s crew in half with no effort), and the utter contempt and rage Astartes possess when confronting literally any enemy.
I like this audio far more than new in community... PS Just was watching the video on official gw community... New audio sucks( I will save this original masterpiece for my good memories and will wish the author good luck and much money from gw. He deserves it, but does gw deserve him? Hope they will let him make what he wants)
@@malcontender6319 I'd better call it *_"clarity of thought before rashness of action!"_* The Adeptus Astartes are so ironically deadly against those who are on their level (or below) because they're basically mass-produced "10-10 Str/Int Super Soldiers." This is a trope that many people enjoy in media, needless to say. I personally love it due to the idea that it reminds me of the "power scale diff" between "the typical video game protagonist" and... literally everyone else... Yes, I just joked how I often compare gamers to Space Marines because everyone else in Warhammer 40,000 has yet to "get gud!" unironically.
That psyker was so incredibly powerful. Not only could he peer into the minds of those psychic orb creatures, but he resisted being possessed by the caged one long enough to hold himself in place, disconnect his “harness” tying him to the orb so the creature couldn’t escape back to it, but also to scream “RECALL THEM IMMEDIATELY” loud enough for it to be audible thru his helmet and warn the chapter master of the danger to his men. He did his duty to the last, and only in death did his duty end. Given a merciful end by the chapter master and his captain. His strength and actions saved the Chapter's ship, and the lives of everyone on board. A possessed psyker is a thing of absolute terror. Truly, even the chapter master and his captain were in extreme danger as they assessed the situation. That’s why the master waved away his third, to hold the next line in case they failed in containment. The scream is most likely the death rattle of the psyker’s soul barely hanging on to coherency before being torn apart by the orb creature’s psychic powers. And before it’s even over the chapter master has hands on him and ends him mercifully swiftly, with the captain making sure all vital parts are destroyed to prevent even the slightest chance of a possession. I like to imagine the inquisitor psyker and the chapter master were associates, and they expected each other to do their duty. That confidence, the anchor that psyker had to “the chapter master must be warned, and he will do his duty freeing me from a possession” is why that psyker was able to push himself until his soul literally burned away inside of him.
so the psyker is the one in the red hood and hes working with that white space marine? then he gets possessed while listening into the two orbs communicating and warns the white marine before being mercy killed?
I saw someone point out that after the tentacle creature grabs the astartes in the void, it is attacked by a smoky mist identical to the one the inquisitor was giving off.
The only movie about Astartes that truly conveys how elite these troops really are. While Space Marines often look cartoonish in other videos, even in official Games Workshop clips, here you really get the feeling you are up against humanity's most advanced warriors. The silent professionalism in which they move. Every shot a hit. Armour impenetrable by ordinary weapons. Superhuman speed and reflexes. Also their incredible willpower in the fight with the psychers. Simply outstanding!
The psyker encounter was a good example of their actual tactical intelligence (every other supersoldier portrayal take note!) And the orb was a better indication of their willpower, unable to be corrupted as the Sergeant approached and all other defences failed.
Agreed. This was the turning point at which I became interested in WH40K. The first few times I've found it, first time was when it was mentioned by Isaac Arthur, second when I found out they're basically top sci-fi army here ua-cam.com/video/FSGl-QsJYXk/v-deo.html. Both times I left uninterested. I thought the character art looked funny / clumsy, I thought they'd intentionally bee lined it to OP status among sci-fi armies, the inclusion of magic, orks especially, had me thinking it was more fantasy than sci-fi, and the 'Status Quo' Dystopia (goal being to maintain things as they are if at all possible rather than to improve the situation) didn't interest me at the time. This changed that. I was still unappreciative of it my first view, but I was impressed, and had a few questions, so I went to see a lore explanation of this... and came away absolutely Stunned at the amount of thought that goes into Every little detail. This launched me down the WH40K animations Rabbit Hole along with more Lore. I still wouldn't say I understand enough of the WH40K universe to consider myself a fan yet, but it's certainly caught my attention.
"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear."
I have played the Space Marines since the late 90s, but I never truly "got them" until I watched Astartes. The thing made clear here that no other 40k media captured before is a Space Marine is a monster from the perspective of a human. The scene that made it all click was the instant the psycher's hold on him is broken, immediately the knife is on it's way to his neck. He wasn't struggling to break free, he was single-mindedly trying to kill the psycher the whole time. Just singularly amazing visual story telling. Added so much more to my appreciation and understanding of the universe of 40k. Too bad we won't get any more fan projects like this.
I see a lot of people praising the animation. But can we talk about the sound effect tho? It's very on point. The muffled explosion in space (I know you got no sound in space, it's only for the sake of the animation). The sound of bullet hitting the armor, the sound of barrier and psychic activating, footstep's, heck he even knew to make conversation muffled so it build up the tense. All and all, this guy not only a genius in animation but also in sound effect.
The ship is pressurised, just FYI. The first bit with the landing craft only has sound from the view of the ship we are following, some very muffled explosions, but that would be the gasses from said explosion hitting the ship. No sound in space is a bit of a tricky thing. Sound doesn't travel in space, but an explosion would blast gass and debrid to anything nearby.
@@Anschlagen thanks for the info. I have really little insight about this. This is the sole reason I barely tried to do sound effect of space or sci fi in general. The insight about this tiny little detail is needed for the realistic result.
@@Anschlagen Thank you, I was just about to comment this; a lot of people don't realise sound is essentially just matter vibrating. So long as there is something being expelled (most often gas), there is sound, even if it moves through space before it's finally heard by human ears. Tl;dr: so long as something that was affected by the explosion reaches your body/ears, you'll hear it as a 'sound'.
9:58 i just realised that this Psyker Yelled "Recall them immediately!!" and then tried to regain focus and that's how he got possessed by the sphere. He lost concentration in order to warn the space marines the impending doom and in the end he got possessed by the spheres because of it. I honestly think that's a cool detail kinda shows that not all Psykers are mentally crazy.
@@0BBFilms0it’s a Yu’Vath artefact of doom. The psykers were likely the planetary royalty who were corrupted by it and were trying to create more psykers. The big gold body is likely a frame they were building to house the consciousness inside the orb.
Never seen or heard about that sphere before, but some people are speculating that its an old artefact from a chaos-corrupted alien race called Yu'Vath. But the guy that made the animations said he just made up something(My source is some 5 year old reddit thread, where a guy have emailed the creator of Astartes and he has posted the answers). Meaning it, it could be a powerful alien psyker, artefact or a warp entity. Your guess is as ours.
I still cannot believe this was fan made by a single person. It is absolutely insane. Not a SINGLE frame was done without care for the quality of production but also care for the lore of WH.
@@xXalexis190Xx That's an understatement. The man is THE first to really illustrate the super-human skills that the space marines are meant to have. This is by far the best representation of a space marine down to every motion, the rest being unable to even hold a torch to what this guy created here. The man is an absolute genius. I'm honestly sad they snatched him, it's probably better for him but considering how hateful GW is of their fans they won't allow him to make anything this fucking good. GW truly survives because of the honest love their customers have for Warhammer and one in a million fans is able to make something like this that makes the rest of us briefly forget that Warhammer is in the hands of scumbags. But they remind us fast, don't they?
@@Evilfish82 The scene were the space marine ran in an attempted to kill the psycher was amazing the sense kf speed was crazy but at the same time you still see that it is a mountain of a human being running
Didn't see anyone mention this yet, but at the end of the video there are actually 4 flashes as the other 4 marines appear in the scene. 3 of the arrivals are on top of those distant pillars, but the very first flash happens *behind* the one on the far right at ground level. All five marines survived their trip through the warp, but that first one might have to dig himself out of the sand.
The best thing about Astartes is that the creator made Space Marine's enemies competent. It's just that the tactics and abilities of the Space Marines are superior in every way.
"superior tactics" *casually walk around in the open while being shot at* *slowly walk around the ship, no rush amitire?* *still gets ambushed twice* Honestly; they seemed pretty incompetent; mostly just relying on their superior strength and resilience to win; they were pretty good shots but the only piece of "tactics" we saw from them was when they tried to ambush those golden boys.
Yeah... I dunno man, it seems like they kinda screwed him. If you go to his youtube page theres just his announcement video and nothing else. The squad leader was on that demon time. Was being turned into a pretzel, and the only thought in his mind was "We're both dying here, then". He lost his hand, and his response was pretty much "Oh...Man, high-fives are gonna suck now."
Same boat, bro. Hasn't stopped me from watching this shit, like, 5,000 times in the last month. Fucking sickest animation ever. AND it needs to be said that it is insane how much this 13-minute story can draw you in with almost zero dialogue. That's the mark of a true artist right there.
One thing I like is that the perspective is resolutely outside the armour. You can tell in some instances (the coordinated attack on the Chaos sorcerers, the scene with the Inquisition psyker) that communication *happens*, but it remains contained within the armour. To outsiders, the Astartes look like they operate by telepathy or some sort of gestalt intelligence, and it makes them that much scarier. Yes, I realise that was most likely driven by a lack of voice talent, but that only makes it *more* impressive. The creator took a real lack and turned it into a strength of the end product.
While watching, I also imagined that they were in constant coms, however, it was all radio coms internal to their armor and wasn’t broadcast outside of the suit. Either way, I loved this!
Soldiers often fight without speaking as they already know what to do. I don't think they're communicating except with the ship as they have no reason to since each Marine knows exactly what to do at any moment.

Honestly, the fight scene at 4:00 is incredible. No Wasted Actions, no "toying" with them, just two equally powerful and intelligent enemies taking a fight to the death seriously.
Wasted movement and unessecary pauses when two enemies or groups of enemies meet in combat in cinema has always been a gripe moment for me. For anyone wondering the size of the ship at the beginning. The turrets for the Macro-cannons on the sides you will see tiny specks of lights just a little above them. Those are a special pane windows which typically would be 50-70 feet in height and 20-30 feet in width. Those tiny specks are roughly close to 100-210 square foot area which is around 1/8th of a football field. With that tiny size we can at least guess this ship belonging to the Battleship class. If I recall correctly, that is around 6-7 Km in length, 1.5-2.1 Km in height, and 900 m - 2 km in width.
The fucking design and detail. The smaller drone takes the missles, the backhanded knife. The smoke dissipated from the plasma pistol, the amazing sound design

I know, and I feel like doing that is what caused him to lose control. He stopped focusing on communicating with the sphere to save those marines :( so sad
I also think that the main Astartes soldier turns his head because he heard the order to fall back (I imagine he was caught off-guard by the order, hence him actually turning his head despite the voice likely coming from inside his helmet). But, as we all know, he and the others are sucked into the ball basically immediately after this.

I acknowledged the fighter that launches in front of the transport but never really paid attention to it after everything starts happening. Dudes out there running distraction to keep the deck guns off the transport... I can't believe the amount of detail Syama Pedersen put into this.
0:57 there’s so many subtle things in this scene. The landing craft approaches from a blind spot, then you can see the enemy ship respond by going full thrust upon visual contact and firing countermeasures. It’s all just so organic.
Can you also notice how the escort attack aircraft from the first frames of the episode inflicts a rocket attack? a blow to the engines and quickly leaves along the ship, and the air defense misses it
oh my god, how is this attention to detail even possible? I could kinda understand, if the makers of these clips are a whole team out of multiple people, but it seems, its only one guy! Its crazy, the abilities of some people...
It also looks like the thunder hawk or something fires something that disables the engine because just before the boarding torpedo hits the ship, the engines go dark.
Gotta love how the heretics literally did everything right, defensive lines, bottleneck the enemy, armour piercing rounds, high explosives rounds, Flanking maneuvers, and yet still lost. The higher rank guys were alarmed when he could be heard outside his helmet, meaning he was screaming so loud that sound was escaping through, also then evidenced by illuminating his screaming face in horror through the visor. But what you do get is that some chapters are more silent and stoic and don't talk much because that's just the culture of that certain group of Marines. Read the first 3 or even just the first Horus Heresy books, it's full of Marines talking to and cracking jokes with one another. It's hard not to get close to a guy when you've been fighting alongside him for the past 200+ yrs
I really like that the Space Marines NEVER talk in this. It makes them seem even more badass. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a Chapter Master or someone like that giving a pre-battle speech about glory and The EMPEROR and getting them all hyped - but then once they're on the mission, they're just so synced up and all know their roles so well that they don't have to say anything. They just kill shit.
I'm pretty sure they do talk, you can hear the helm vox of the marines a few times. The vid just gives us an external view on them, like their enemies see them, and unless a marine activates his vox caster, they appear nearly silent, which is even more impressive considering their size and their huge armor.
@@InCognito-vx8gi That's a great point! We're outside observers in this, so we wouldn't hear anything they said unless they were using a caster/speaker. So even if they were talking to each other, like you said - no one facing them would know it. Which I think makes them even scarier as an enemy!
I've always thought that concept is dumb considering astartes are in a constant state of "hyped" for battle lol Most of the CG movies I see of astartes are ruined for me by the voice acting or writing. Astartes use words the same way they use bolter shells.. Not a single one is released without a purpose.. Wasting time speaking information that is not useful or have purpose is not something an Astartes wouldnt do. I think under very rare instances should we here them speak and it should be very mechanical, emotionless and to the point. I yield a little more in the novels when it comes to this because I can put my own spin on how they say it etc but in videos hearing someone else voice act their words.. cringe..
@@deepblue1846 You mean you don't like it when they yell, "BROTHERS!!"...? Haha. I understand what you mean, though, and I agree. I like to think of it as - there's a job for everyone. There are probably guys who talk more, because their role demands it (leaders, basically), but I figure the troops on the ground wouldn't typically NEED to talk much at all, like you said. They've got helmets with a HUD full of sensor displays, maps, all that shit - so they probably know where everyone is and what they're doing at almost all times. So unless something's really gone awry on the mission, why bother? And even if they HAD to talk to each other, like In Cognito said, only they would hear it. Which again, to an outside observer, makes them scary as hell. Regardless of what happens, all you would see is them just silently changing tactics as necessary, and continuing the fight.
The fact that they're using comms through airtight helmets, and you can HEAR the psyker yelling through his helmet is telling of just how bad the situation was. "Recall them Immediately!"
Bruh, the Inquisitor straight looked at the commander as he over heard the daemons talking about possessing him. He knew what was coming and warned the space marine thus saving the entire ship with that simple gesture. What a boss, took his fate with absolute loyalty.
He saved more than the people on the ship. He was the one that blasted the warp entity when it tried dragging the Space Marine squad into the warp. Although, the space marines didn't look like they landed somewhere hospitable.... so maybe he only prolonged the inevitable in their case.
@@svendays I disagree. Im pretty sure the Space Marine who blew his arm off is the one who killed the warp demon. He's getting pulled in by a massive tentacle demon. (right before they get sucked in he see's the demons true form with a bunch of tentacles.) right before he gets pulled into the orb aka "the warp" he looks into it. As you see his vision goggles light up. He sees where the demon is that is pulling him and his comrades in. He then aims his mega blaster gun (or whatever that is) at the demon in the warp and fires. I guess because of being partially in the orb it also blows his arm off. Then it shows the point of view of his comrade being held by the tentacle demon and it shows his comrades blaster shot, shoot in and blow up the demon.. which then causes them all to be dropped in who knows where
@@willmarisela nope, the chaos entity that comes in and grabs the orb entity is a warp predator, the orb entity used psychic power in the warp and attracted the attention of all the nearby hungry things which then devoured it.
You can hear him shout "Recall them immediately!" The dude screamed so loud you could hear him through the helmet. Same with the chanting he does when he stands and turns to the commander.
I wonder how the creator feels, knowing he will never make something this good ever again. Bro out skilled himself. Made something so perfect that nothing will ever reach it.
In regards to the OP's comments. YES!!!! Sure, even if the Astartes could technically be talking to each other over mics: the perspective the audience has DOESN'T HAVE TO HEAR THAT. Instead, we get the perspective of an observer in the room. Which really helps sell just how terrifying and how "whisper quiet" to "deafeningly loud" an event like this would be. ❤
They all got their helmets on, pretty sure when they don't want to broadcast, you can't hear what they are saying inside the helmets, they can communicate to each other thru their coms units, pretty sure on their HUDs they can even see what the others are looking at if they choose to broadcast/recieve. WE just can't hear what they are saying.
Something I love about this is that they perfectly portray just how powerful space Marines and psykers are. In the game and such they're pretty much everywhere and die pretty often so you don't really grasp the concept of just how godlike they are. Space Marines are designed to be one man armies against normal foes they're pretty much unstoppable and this perfectly betrays it. A small squad is enough to decimate dozens if not hundreds of standard combatant soldiers, a standard space Marine is virtually bulletproof to normal weaponry and even most heavy weapons are rendered useless. Simultaneously they can run at superhuman speeds despite their heavy armor and can rip apart steel with their bare hands. Meanwhile this also shows you the power of psykers, you think that these are something special like powerful bosses but they are just standard psykers all of them have that power and you can see what they're capable of. It just really sells the weight of what kind of monsters exist in this universe
And how vulnerable the mind of a psyker can be when compared to other entities in the warp, it's something people don't grasp until they really read into warhammer being a psyker is not "oh hey I have godlike powers XD" it's an amplification of the bad just as much as the good.
You're absolutely right! Remember the time during the Great Crusade on Planet 63-19 (Book: Horus Rising)? The Imperial Guard wasn't able to fight through a heavily defended tunnelsystem, held by the forces of the planets rebelling administration. *Six weeks* the fights continued, with no gain whatsoever. Then Adeptus Astartes (10. Company of the Lunar Wolves) under the command of Cpt. Garviel Loken arrived and took the tunnel system, the outer palace, and seat of power within the hour.
I agree. I think the Dawn of War 2 trailer shows how powerful an Eldar witch can be as well cause she fries one dude with lightning in an insant but the Force Commander is able to resist it for just a second to close the gap
The detail I love the most is how the multi-laser gunner could've taken out the lead astartes, were he to wait just a few seconds longer. The routing troops were clearly luring the enemy into that chokepoint of a corridor; if the guy let the marine reach at least halfway in, he would not only spare his comrades, but also keep the enemy under direct fire for a few more precious seconds. That many las-blast hits would've compromised the armour's integrity, even wound the astartes with enough hits to the eyelenses and joint seals. But the gunner panicked, opened fire immediatley upon sight and that was it for everyone. Not that taking out one of the five would accomplish much, maybe it'd cost them another casualty in the fight with psyker brothers, but they still reach the artefact and place the beacons. The mortal troops were clearly professional soldiers, but in the end they were still only human. I love proper 40k so damn much. Fuck GW.
Astartes have good vision. He would've simply seen him and shot him down the moment he came into the corridor. Which is why the gunner started shooting right as soon as he saw him.
@@ernimuja6991 He does just that, but bolt pistol rounds do not work, so he throws a smoke/flash grenade, causing the enemy gunner to stop the torrent of las-blasts, takes cover, switches weapons and shoots a plasma blast. Plasma weaponry is delicate, if tried to pull it out in that hail of enemy shots, it could've been struck and compromised, not to mention that he'd be under a stream of fire for the entire duration of the switch. I am not saying that the multilaser would've killed him, but it'd likely compromise the armour/deal a few minor woulds through the seals. An astartes in compromised armour is put at a huge disadvantage for the rest of the fight, as they do not have a techmarine with them to perform repairs.
I don't know whether the lore/"rules", so to speak, have changed dramatically in the last 15 or so years - and not that I disagree with you - but the only thing that I can fault about this series is that this Lascannon should have torn the Astartes in half. Lascannons were designed to cut through the armor of tanks, walkers and speeders, much less the armor of a lone space marine. But it says a lot that these guardsmen, of a sort, brought a Lascannon to a bolter fight. That's the only fault I can raise with this series and even then I realise how inconsequential it is to what is the best 40K animation ever made...
@@TheR1g That's not a lascannon, it's a twin-linked multilaser, sort of a lasweapon answer to a machinegun/infantry support gun. No lascannon in the galaxy has this high rate of fire. It's one thick beam a few times per minute.
@@MizantropMan Fair enough. Thanks for the info. It was just the profile of the thing looked, at first glance, like it was a lascannon... but I stand corrected! Thanks!
Part of the problem was the use of copyrighted sound/music in the original. Specifically, the Dredd (2012) soundtrack is featured. It fit so well because Dredd's composer, Paul Leonard-Morgan, also did the soundtrack to Dawn of War 3. But rather than working to get the permission to use the original sound design, they instead did a rush job to the shit sound on their site.
The fact that GW have anything to do with it at all doomed it. Terrible move on the part of Syama Pedersen to have anything to do with that shit company, sure hope the money was worth it in the short term. Because it wont do a thing for his career, or bring him any fulfilment in life.
@@HRRRRRDRRRRR yep it is terrible, I am glad that he's financially stable now since he's being paid way more than before but now I won't expect anything better to come out from his work not with GW taking control on whatever they do
For some reason I just love that small moment at 8:03. They continue to walk towards this object with no stop in movement, then it proceeds to launch out a small amount of force to make itself known and active. Each of them stop for a second, staring straight ahead and then get right back to moving, not giving a damn one bit.
The directing here is brilliant. This is visually brilliant. These guys should direct real Hollywood movies. This is as good as any action sequence I have ever seen.
@@OneBiasedOpinion yes, I see it like a psych attack too. Less of a force push and more of a psychic scream. Their unflinching advance is impressive with either though. There are many points throughout the video where a normal man would definitely pause with either fear, or lost in the moment. Who knows how long that captain and the psyker have known each other. Could’ve been years. But the min he lost control and succumbed to the warp madness, he didn’t hesitate a single moment to put his fist through his face
Download this ASAP because the creator officially joined GW ranks and the original videos have been removed from youtube... And not only that, GW posted the videos on their community page and fucked up the quality and even changed some audio and video parts.
I think they legally had to change some music because games workshop didn't own the rights to that music or something, but the whole thing is stupid as hell.
Can we also appreciate how ads are turned off on this vid? Adding an edit because nobody bothers to check my reply: Ads may play during the video, that's youtube being youtube, but there are no marks on the timeline - means it's not monetized
I don't know much about warhammer, but I really appreciate how the action happens in real time, no repetition, no dramatic pauses. It's not something you see all that often in animation, and it offers a unique kind of... viscerality. We're shown what two overpowered factions seriously trying to end each other looks like, and neither of them is going to slow down for us. But despite going so fast, the video is still full of details for you to find if you just go back and look. It's not using the fast pace to hide a lack of effort.
The attention to detail is just unreal. At 10:30 you can see the space marine's cloak billow in the pressure waves caused by the bolter's firing. It's incredible.
If you watch closely at 1:37, you can see the smoke being blown in different directions from each individual weapon. It's blink and you'll miss it level of detail.
@@harleyeames17 I dont see the markings, maybe you're confusing it with the marks from the lasgun shots they took? The little circles, which is still amazing attention to detail and lets us track our main character
After all this years the dialogue that the inquisitor was listening in on just clicked on me. The orb on the imperial ship was the one that said "you'll never survive, you must take them" in which the inquisitor seemed to yell "Recall them immediately!". The orb on the imperial ship noticed our eavesdropping inquisitor and "took" him. So the matter of "taking" is transferring their consciousness onto a new host; that being said, orb on the imperial ship is now effectively, and evidently dead. Now I just understood that the sequence on the imperial ship was happening at the same time the Space marines were being absorbed and in the process of being taken as shown by the tentacles grabbing all 5 of them. And then that black matter that struck the main body of tentacle dude in 11:46 was the psychic feedback when his bro got punched in the face and got 3 bolters drilled into him; much like how when one of the psycher twins earlier got disrupted and stunned when his twin got a knife rammed through his skull. Tentacle dude got stunned, let go of the Space Marines, and teleported them all to their presumably homeworld. I say "all" because in the visions the inquisitor was having while being taken, it can be seen that there are 4 Space Marines on the palm of that statue. Still cant get over the fact that a single person wrote, modeled, directed, animated, post processed, and edited something as masterful as this
I 💯% agree with the feedback. I think the significance of showing the twins first pays off to explain the orbs later. With all the theories, I think this one fits perfectly.
at 11:46 although i like the idea of that feeback from the inquisitor getting decked. I always thought it was the delayed reaction of the shot this guy took at the orb at 11:11
it was a warp daemon that killed the entity, you can see them, sort of shadows drifting by at your timestamp if you slow down the video ! crazy work from that guy yeah !
The almost not noticeable detail at the end is the Astartes response time. He just got his arm blown off, got flung around in the void and then teleported to some unknown place. It takes him just a few seconds to start looking at his surroundings. It is the equivalent of being kicked in the stomach, thrown down a flight of stairs into a dark room and being told you have 6 seconds to identify your surroundings.
He really sold Astartes being pretty much near inhuman warmarchines. Their actions are close to being, but not entirely, robotic. Beings bred and trained for warfare. I just love it.
Dude same here. I'll be honest I use to not understand 40k fans but this video is what hooked me, so underrated. We need this guy to make and direct the movie
Same and even tho I didn't understand anything about it besides what a space marine was bc of how much it's used in other Sci-fi I still felt like I could follow what was happening, I was asking, "what is that?", "who are they?", "what the hell just happened?", but not in an annoyed way, in an awestruck way. Seeing this as one of the first things I ever knew about warhammer as an adult effected me like seeing stars wars for the first time as a kid, I was hooked from then on and haven't gone one day without reading, listening, or watching something about the warhammer universe
I love the way he made the hallway scene at the beginning with regular people so we get a scale for the size of the astartes, I literally can’t even wrap my head around how big those houses are, and primarch’s are even bigger?
usally primarchs are almost the double of a space marine. Primarchs where unique. Some of them even had "feelings" which a Astartes doesnt have in a common way.
@@user-nr3ei8ji8u Emotions, primarchs have "extendet"! emotions. thats is usally diusabled by the marines except anger, rage and wrath. Because the Primarchs are the sons of the imperator and the SM are just "tools" made out of the perfect "human" soldier
@@StoffiePrductions Marines are still men, depends on the chapter for the process of creation and training. But they are not all mind wiped, emotionless drones. @@Ammoniumbicarbonat And not just humans, an Astartes Marines are stronger 1v1 against most enemies, but when they meet against their elite soldiers, then they are in trouble. I think what hinders the space marines the most is their lacking numbers and how fractured they are. I know it is the effect of the Horus Heresy. Also their aging tech and equipment - I think I read somewhere, that their armor can't be made anymore, that the tech is lost and actually all armor sets are from old storage, passed down from older marines who can't fit in them or made from the good parts of broken sets.

This is great! Shame GW just decided it's illegal to ever do any sort of fan-made Warhammer Animation (or other fan content) ever again. They even went after peoples' Patreons. Ah GW really just is amazing at being horrible.

I remember when I first showed my buddy who was new to warhammer the episode where the inquisitor gets taken over by the entity and the captian and his lieutenant put him down. My friend freaked out and asked me "Holy shit what the hell happened to the hooded dude?!" Tell him that he became possessed likely by a deamon of the warp. "That's a thing? Well couldn't have they just exorcized it or something?" Me: "They just did."
Considering how terrifying and dangerous demonic possessions can get in Warhammer 40K, what the astartes did to the inquisitor is more of a mercy kill and them eliminating a potentially dangerous threat before it can take full power. Demons are very dangerous and powerful entities from the warp that even a Astartes will have immense difficulty defeating, with the only exception being the Grey Knights, who specializes in combating demons and other warp creatures. Where a regular human can be killed with one bolt round from a bolt gun, a fully powered demon can withstand several clips of bolter fire without getting a scratch and throw Astartes around like ragdolls So yeah, these Astartes weren't taking any chances with this possessed inquisitor. Also, to be honest, they were doing him a favor and saving everyone on the ship.
This is so lore acurate. So many places in the books they keep on describing the shock and awe of astartes yet so few movies and games have come close to actually capturing it. This is spot on. The sheer speed, precision, weight, coordination, confidence and bravery of an astartes is really awe-inspiring...
I'm very unfamiliar with the lore, what faction are the space Marines fighting here? I showed my buddy this the other day and neither of us are very knowledgeable about W40k

Best and most believable adaptation of the Adeptus Astartes as written in the books. Too many depictions get them wrong as slow, lumbering tanks: I laughed with outright joy seeing them run the 100 yard dash in just a couple seconds in full armor. Absolutely awesome video for 40k fans!

4:55 The scene where the Astartes pushes through Psyker powers, fueled by pure strength and hatred and rage, shit is so intense. This is such an incredibly well made animation. It's phenomenal.
Hatred and rage are for the Khorne worshippers. The (Non-Chaos) Space Marines just have immense willpower and mental discipline coming from their brutal training.
@@jinpachibobochan3532 nah regular marines feel righteous fury. how do you think marines fall to khorne? even if enhanced, marines are humans, and thus feel emotions just as others do. just...also they're really fucked up psychologically lol and conditioned
@@brightestlight9462 Righteous fury isn't rage and hatred, though. Any emotion has different kinds of types, some positive, some negative. Even love can be twisted into something not so positive. If you let rage and hatred lead your sword, then you will eventually start to behave like a violent savage - but if you allow your fury to only give your strength, but wield the sword with mental discipline and skill, then you will fight like a master of your body, mind, and soul. Stuff like that. The former is most likely to become entrapped by chaos. The latter not so. Well, that doesn't mean you will have your mind corrupted by rage and hatred after just a small amount, but I'm speaking here of those that revel in these emotions, using them as mental fuel for their strikes. Killing something out of rage and hatred corrupts. But it is tough to theorize all that stuff anyways regarding Space Marines. Not only do they live in a time of 'There is only war,' but they aren't exactly normal humans. How and why a space marine becomes corrupted by chaos, manipulated into thinking that becoming a follower of Nurgle is a good idea, I have no idea. Nurgle followers sound like crocodile drug junkies.
And the Captain blasting the Psyker with no hesitation shows the gravity of the situation. The whole scene gets cut to a black screen momentarily for the audience to absorb what just happened.

Saying it's better than movies is an insult, because this is on a league of its own to even compare to theaters junk. Well done, incredible.
5:15 the way he charges through the field with all his weight behind that knife will always be my favorite part of this. Psychic powers be damned against the laws of inertia heretic.
I love that part, it shows that these men can coordinate to a level that can only be seen as telepathy to an outsider. They know what they must do to support the whole
I know exactly: that slight trick of hand, the transition of the blade from left hand to right hand to maximize the weight and momentum. To me this is the finest point in the entirety of Astartes. Thank you, Syama, for this masterpiece, this piece of art.
I really like that part too. Same with the marine caught in the psychic field; as soon as the psycher's concentration lapses the knife ends up just near his throat. As if the marine isn't exactly fighting the psychic force in order to free himself, rather he is still in the stabbing movement the whole time. Eliminating the threat takes priority over own safety.

The Adeptus Astartes are so ironically deadly against those who are on their level (or below) because they're basically mass-produced "10-10 Str/Int Super Soldiers."

You mean "lore accurate".
I like to think the Imperium is hundreds of these heroic stories just like that happening all across the galaxy every day.

he also helped out in death, his soul attacked the creature taking the Astartes in the warp.

@@0BBFilms0it’s a Yu’Vath artefact of doom. The psykers were likely the planetary royalty who were corrupted by it and were trying to create more psykers. The big gold body is likely a frame they were building to house the consciousness inside the orb.

But the guy that made the animations said he just made up something(My source is some 5 year old reddit thread, where a guy have emailed the creator of Astartes and he has posted the answers). Meaning it, it could be a powerful alien psyker, artefact or a warp entity. Your guess is as ours.

To outsiders, the Astartes look like they operate by telepathy or some sort of gestalt intelligence, and it makes them that much scarier.

Its saddening that Astartes is the best content on Warhammer+, they actually got everything right when it comes to Spacemarines.
1. They hardly or never talk
2. They don't die by just one shot
3.They are fast, tactically superior warriors
4.They are a brute unstoppable force
...saddening, because it needed an outside developer to show GW how it s done
I'm a complete newb when it comes to anything WH, but regarding #1 I think someone else broke it down and said they do talk, it's just that no one on the outside can hear (aka they have comms built inside their helmet or whatnot).
This is also why it was concerning when the guy using the beads got possessed. The higher rank guys were alarmed when he could be heard outside his helmet, meaning he was screaming so loud that sound was escaping through, also then evidenced by illuminating his screaming face in horror through the visor.
I'm actually curious, so if that guy got it wrong I'd like to know if the other guy was making that ish up, and the marines don't actually communicate.
@@Yeschanz It depends on the chapter, there's ALOT of speeches that the space marines do before battle.
"SPESS MAHREENS TODAEH WE ARE IN SPESS! WE KNOW OUR DOOTY AND WE WILL DEW IT."
(right before they get sucked in he see's the demons true form with a bunch of tentacles.)
right before he gets pulled into the orb aka "the warp" he looks into it. As you see his vision goggles light up. He sees where the demon is that is pulling him and his comrades in. He then aims his mega blaster gun (or whatever that is) at the demon in the warp and fires. I guess because of being partially in the orb it also blows his arm off.
Then it shows the point of view of his comrade being held by the tentacle demon and it shows his comrades blaster shot, shoot in and blow up the demon.. which then causes them all to be dropped in who knows where
The Emperor protects!
@@willmarisela nope, the chaos entity that comes in and grabs the orb entity is a warp predator, the orb entity used psychic power in the warp and attracted the attention of all the nearby hungry things which then devoured it.

I wonder how the creator feels, knowing he will never make something this good ever again. Bro out skilled himself. Made something so perfect that nothing will ever reach it.
I think one of the reason why other 40k animation don't hit as hard as this is their lack of dialogue. It maintains the mysticism and uniqueness
also apart of the lore is that they have radios inside their suits rather than speaking it outloud
i think there was plenty of dialogue. What you mean, do you want this to be the Serranos? habla habla? The guns do the talking
I honestly wish I knew who the masked phykers were at least that’s honestly my only question
Not to mention a lot of Astartes are psykers themselves.
E

It has been four years and GW still fails to make an animation that matches the quality of Syama's personal project.
Still cant get over the fact that a single person wrote, modeled, directed, animated, post processed, and edited something as masterful as this
here here, it's amazing. Great plot synopsis too, thanks. I was wondering what was going on!
I 💯% agree with the feedback. I think the significance of showing the twins first pays off to explain the orbs later. With all the theories, I think this one fits perfectly.
at 11:46 although i like the idea of that feeback from the inquisitor getting decked. I always thought it was the delayed reaction of the shot this guy took at the orb at 11:11
Holy shit this makes sense!
it was a warp daemon that killed the entity, you can see them, sort of shadows drifting by at your timestamp if you slow down the video ! crazy work from that guy yeah !
The almost not noticeable detail at the end is the Astartes response time. He just got his arm blown off, got flung around in the void and then teleported to some unknown place. It takes him just a few seconds to start looking at his surroundings. It is the equivalent of being kicked in the stomach, thrown down a flight of stairs into a dark room and being told you have 6 seconds to identify your surroundings.
last part is pretty much Astartes neophyte training to survive the Initiation Rituals.
He really sold Astartes being pretty much near inhuman warmarchines. Their actions are close to being, but not entirely, robotic. Beings bred and trained for warfare. I just love it.

The plasma bolt annihilating the muti-laser position is not only superb to behold but also to hear.
We need a 40k movie just like this. Depicitng how powerful the Astartes are.
Quite frankly this show's more how powerless and weak they are relative to the cosmic entities they are dealing with.
@@bud389 Compared to regular humans they’re pretty fucking powerful. Just shows how grim the odds stacked against the Imperium are.

13 minute almost all silent "show no tell" movie and it easily wins over any other Hollywood movie and the shity Space Marien movie done.
The inquisitor (red psyker) tells the veterans to recall all 5 astartes they've sent after hearing the spheres talk:
-We all have failed
-Break the seal.
9:57 "RECALL THEM IMMEDIATELY!"
at 10:38 they receive the message but it's already too late.
almost everybody in hollywood is a talentless hack
this is 90% nothing but action cuts, no wonder it's very likable, you can't compare short cgi clips with any long 2 hour movie script...where is so much room for questionable decisions to get criticized by subjective reasoning
@@tallll70 To your attention.
I've never compared it to CGI Movie scripts.
@@comedelian4084 it's no problem, i wasn't replying to you
This is great!
Shame GW just decided it's illegal to ever do any sort of fan-made Warhammer Animation (or other fan content) ever again.
They even went after peoples' Patreons.
Ah GW really just is amazing at being horrible.
I really hope it's some kind of kneejerk reaction and they change that over time. but I doubt it
Who is GW?
@@TheRecklessBravery Games Workshop (GW) are the owners of the intellectual property. They own the rights to these Space Marines and all the rest of the universe.
@@JustLookinkAround are they the ones that decide which lore is canon or not?
@@ffhdyedq Basically, yes.
I don't know how many times I've watched this video, every times I have great feeling just like the first time, it's sooo well done.
Well couldn't have they just exorcized it or something?"
Me: "They just did."
Emperor Protects🙇♀
"They just did." Well you're not wrong 🤣.
@mcchicken1849 he's a fellow brother of the Grey Knights now, lol. My dude got bit by the 40k bug hard after this.
@@freybrand1617 The Emperor Protects!
@@TiddyTwyster IIRC the foot soldiers are theorized to be Umbra, and the Orbs are (to my understanding) a different type of Psyker enemy not well understood (thus the red cloaked Inquisitor)
@@TiddyTwyster Fan chapter and probably made up rebellion, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Argosa System' didn't exist prior either. But GWS hired on this guy so this was all made canon cuz it fits the universe so well. The psyker automatons, the orbs, the place they get sent to, etc are all new creations by Pedersen.
@@TiddyTwyster The Space Marines are fighting for the Imperium of Man, humanity's main faction. The people they're fighting are rebels.
It's easily the most terrifying thing about Space marines, and this is one of the only pieces of video where this is shown, just how fast they are
Of course space marines are fast... compared to guardsmen. But compared to eldar for example... not so much.
Dawn of War did a good job of showing their speed and agility. Tactical marines running during movement.
@@rdklgrunt6985 you mean fluff or crunch? They are much weaker in tabletop than they are intended to be fluffwise. A proper Marine can't outrun a Banshee, but they are damn fast lol.
@@fritcher4553 Fluff of course... tabletop wise they move just as much as a guardsmen.
This singlehandedly almost made me buy the $200 40K ultimate starter set. I'm buying whatever this guy makes next
I did and it’s hard to work through but fun
4:55 The scene where the Astartes pushes through Psyker powers, fueled by pure strength and hatred and rage, shit is so intense. This is such an incredibly well made animation. It's phenomenal.
I love that in a half second of confusion he came within an inch of killing that psyker instantly
Hatred and rage are for the Khorne worshippers. The (Non-Chaos) Space Marines just have immense willpower and mental discipline coming from their brutal training.
@@jinpachibobochan3532 Agreed. I would argue they were pretty calm in this moment.
10:28 that punch literally through the face gets me every time. Such violence and perfect demonstration of the sheer force of an astartes.
That's an awesome scene
And the Captain blasting the Psyker with no hesitation shows the gravity of the situation.
The whole scene gets cut to a black screen momentarily for the audience to absorb what just happened.
@@khanhngo5979 Actually i think that's just the end of the original scene, it was originally produced in parts lol
Dude he grabbed hist face so had the glass mask shattered.
@@khanhngo5979 I still remember reading a couple of comments on the original video.

Apockiller they are genetically enhanced warriors vs regular soldiers ofc they are gonna slaughter the regular soldiers no matter how well trained they are

Through all this badassery and epic animation, my favourite moment is at 10:41
These marines went through an army, mounted twin lazguns and psykers without a single moment of hesitation, but the first time their captain flinches is when the warp spaghetti is starting and you know sh*t is about to hit the fan.

The slow blade penetrates the shield.....
