  • We are mid-way through wheat harvest... but today we have the whole BROCK FAMILY home to help take off our farthest field.
And as always, I appear to be the one who should be fired.
    ENJOY!

It may have slipped by unnoticed by many of us. Did viewers notice that Sandi put her plan to relocate the rams to the old cattle barn so she could have room for more ewes/lambs and thus (potentially) make more money, on hold. It was so she and Mark could store hay and straw for their neighbour who just had the bad fire. No, "So sorry for the terrible fire, but I am going ahead with my plans to enlarge my flock. You will just have to somehow find room elsewhere to store the hay and straw you need". No fuss, no trumpets, they just put their plan on hold to help a neighbour in need.
    Good people.

Hey Sandi! I live inbetween Windsor and Chatham Ontario (literally at the half way point between the two cities) and there's mainly fields in every direction for over half your drive going to either city.
While I'm not the type of driver that's reckless around slower traffic. I have noticed that the amount of patience I have when coming up on a tractor has gone up significantly, since watching videos like these. I find Ontario drivers have the "go as fast as possible" mindset. And it's really easy to forget that there's a person inside the tractor just trying to make a living.

Happy Birthday, Mark! Lost my mailbox to someone’s header not long ago. All caused by a car driver trying to pass without enuf room...in a no passing zone. It’s a steep drop to the ditch, so I was impressed the farmer stayed upright & only tagged the mailbox.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK!!
farmers and ranchers look after each other....just the way it was intended! one thing my family has always done is loom after our neighbors and friends...when we had the w aldo canyon fire back in 2012 mom and I drove into the fire zone to rescue my dad's boss who had one of our horses...we left with 2 trailers full of animals and feed and equipment(saddles and such) and it was "here's the keys call you later!" after 2 weeks he called and asked if he could have his horses back😄and was shocked everything was there and a full tank of gas....he cried as he never though anyone would show up to help and then we called!!! Man was good to us and us to him...the way it should be!

Jack and Jess...hold on to these moments with your parents...it may be a pain sometimes...it maybe frustrating at times BUT when the unfortunate day comes when they are no longer with you...you can look back at all these moments...it is truly a treasure to have. I sadly lost my dad in 2017...it was very sudden...I hold on to all the memories we have and a ton of those are from right around the first year after high school.

Growing up, my parents had a greenhouse operation, retail/wholesale. The whole family worked on weekends, summer and in the spring after school as well. My favourite memories are of times I got to help my dad with some little project, a clean up or a new build, or repair. Spent a lot of time with my sisters working, and we are still close today. But I loved those times it was just me and my dad. :)

Ya I lost my Mom 5 years ago an my biological father like 8 or 9 yrs ago. What I learned was because I had cut my father outta my life at 16 so when he passed I wasnt emotionally affected. Then Mom passed an thats when it hit me ... As I was grieving for my mother I felt sad over the loss of my dad. Sad I chose to not have a relationship with him for specific reasons an now no matter what I cant get that back. Not saying allow toxic in ya life but maybe just maybe had I given him any kind of opportunity to at least say my goodbyes.

Sandi isn't it nice to be able to walk in the garden and grab something that you grew to cook up for dinner. Congrats on producing your own produce. It will get easier the longer you are at it.
My wheelchair and the layout of my yard prevents me from growing anymore. Still have some productive fruit... Blackberries, raspberries, figs, muscadine grapes and a pecan tree. The birds and squirrels enjoy more than we do.
Finding someone to tend them is not so easy.

You all as a family all the struggles that there are in trying to raise crops, produce them, get them out of field to your grain bins, but I don't see any big tractor trailers hauling grain like we do in the states to the grain bulk storage silos. That get put on 100 tankers or more tankers for a grain train.

Happy belated birthday to Mark. Mine was July 30, and our wedding anniversary is Aug.1, which means hubby never has the excuse of forgetting it each year, lol! Great video today, I always enjoy watching the field work. I know it is hard for you all, but relaxing to watch.

    Ms. Brock:
Sometime in the future, perhaps going to or returning from the sales barn, for those who aren’t involved in agriculture (or don’t have ag clients) would you consider discussing things like lamb marketing issues, marketing boards, the Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency, check off fees, loading regulations, your work with the Ontario Sheep Farmers and your background degree in ag. Management. Think of it as a truck talk coming and going to the sales barn. And maybe add a word or two about the difference between a sales barn and an abattoir.
    Respectfully,
    WS

I agree and finishing plants too. I have watched a number of detailed and human processing videos by Dr. Temple Grandin, she is a well respected expert. Not easy to watch but important to understand where our food comes from and the complete process.

Amanda B I agree that it would be an interesting idea but I think most of her subscribers would be offended. Sometimes you don't want to know all the details. Kinda like not wanting to know exactly how a surgeon is going to cut you open and every detail of your operation.

@@missdragonfly1001 Maybe so, but one of Sandi's goals with her videos is to show folks what REALLY happens on the farm. And that would be part of the process. Life is not all cute and fuzzy.

@@missdragonfly1001 plus if people dont want to know that stuff, they can just skip the video, or that part of the video. Sanding should make it available to all, and people can censor themselves if they dont want to hear it.
I'm a vegetarian, and I love watching all aspects of Sandi's methods. I've watched almost every video since I discovered her.

Not a farmer, nor do I play one on TV -- however I do enjoy watching the process from time to time. I just bought a new (new to me) Jeep, and I'm told that they are gluten free .... even the tires .... who knew. Take care & Happy Birthday to Mark.
