- OUR FIRST DAY OF HARVEST 2020!
And our first attempt at harvesting WINTER CANOLA!
Some nerves are brewing as we work together as a family doing some last minute preparation around the farm, to the first fire up of the combine.
But, as Mark engaged the header...
There was a BANG.
And some ghosts of harvest past revealed themselves.
We also began wheat harvest!
Join me on the combine, the buggy and wagons as we begin our first of many days to come out on the land!
FYI
To get some different perspectives of harvest, Mark, Jess and I are all documenting our version on our channels!
NOW THAT SHOULD BE GOOD FOR A CHUCKLE!

As a non-farmer these videos are always so fascinating for me. Very curious how everything works and thankful for the work you all do!!
Love this! Takes me back to my childhood watching my grandpa and dad combine.
Hi Sandi I definitely love the sheep part but it is nice for a change of scenery. Your smile lights up the UA-cam community. Thanks for all your hard work and videos.
wow 22 yr dance partner! thanks for us non farmers on how the process flows! love watching your famjam working away together! xoxo
My pleasure!!!
I appreciate all the hard work you and your family does! Beautiful 🥰
I really enjoy watching and listening to you and your husband and daughter interact. Great family dynamics
It’s the best!
Oh the memories, I remember when my boys were old enough to help on our farm. Yes the "stress" was higher but at the end of the day knowing that we came together as a family to accomplish a goal was a wonderful feeling. Always great when a crop comes in better than expected. God Bless.
So true!!!!
WOW! You guys are REAL farmers! Lots of hard work you all do, even with the nice equipment!
Lol! We are!
This video was FUN! Thanks
All this just blows me away. The machines and the whole process is something amazing. Your family works together to get it all done. Love it.
Sandi, I can tell by the smile on your face at the end of the video that you are really enjoying your day! Good to see some stress relief! Hope your whole harvest goes this well!
Thank you! Love fieldwork time!
And working with your man
Love how funny the kids are! Having fun while working makes the day go faster!
Lol! They are a lot of fun!
It's a love hate relationship working with your spouse. Most times my husband and I get along great. Then there are the other times. Lol. But knowing who your working with and how they work is a blessing! Love the smiles everyone has. And Jess is a hoot. Good luck on all your crops this year!!!
So true Heather!!! Thank you!
She definitely loves attention.
The picture of a combine head on in sunset light with clouds of wheat dust flying is the epitome of harvest for me.
I just love how you and Mark so clearly have so much love and respect for each other. So many people are just miserable in their marriage these days, so it is wonderful to see what a great marriage and partnership you have!
Sandi, every video I watch makes me so regretful that I did not choose farming as my life's work. Its very hard work, but so rewarding, or it looks rewarding. Thank you for making Canadian Farmers look so cool, and for being honest in your window on your life. :) Sad that I am not a farmer.
78 bu/acre is a phenomenal yield! Well done you guys!!!
This was so interesting to me. I live in a farming community and have watched the farmers harvest their crops for years. But I never really know much about how the process worked. Thanks so much for sharing.
Canola is a beautiful and useful crop, glad the Canucks have adopted its newer name.
Loved this video! A farm family working together. Kudos on the canola!
Thanks Debbie!!
I love your channel! You show everyone all the levels of stress and joy. Farming is hard work and the work just never ends. Most people don’t know that.
Wow! Between your video and Mark's that was a great harvest video. I love what you guys do, wish I could have done that in my younger years. Thank you all so much for sharing it all with us. ❤️
Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for explaining everything. I am at Chicago Grandma and loves to learn about farming
Beautiful! Love watching the harvest and appreciating all the thought & stress that go into farming. My relatives farm in north west Iowa.
Thanks Donna!
Wowwww... Farmers don't get enough accolades. 💙💚😎
😊😊😊
Super video, Sandi! It was great seeing Mark's video and yours back-to-back! SO, SO interesting! You guys are so knowledgeable and hardworking! :) Fun to see Jack and Jess, too!
IMO the most interesting video you've made so far on the harvesting side of things, good job :)
Thanks so much!
Sandi - Great video. Nice to see your whole family involved, and that you all can switch off to different jobs so easily. Blessings to you, Mark, and the kids from Davenport, Iowa.
Praying for an abundant and safe harvest for your family.
God bless.
Please do not misunderstand. Love following you and Mark. Sometimes it just gets overwhelming, so much interesting information. You do a great job. Love the lambs!
Thanks! I hate when I talk too much to... you’d be amazed how much I cut out when I edit!! Lol. I’m a chatterbox.
I adore watching your family work together, pushing through anything that is thrown at you. :)
I really hope the canola works out for Mark and you guys. Good luck.
I love harvest time on Shepherd Creek Farm! Looks like Canola might be a keeper! Great crops Brocks!😍
Thanks Marilyn!!
Jack's features are all Mark and Jess Is all Sandy. Thanks for the fun family videos!
Lol! I’m sure they love hearing that!😂😂
Very glad to watch a canola harvest. Also I enjoy the narration on how to drive alongside the harvesters. So interesting.
Thanks Sandi for posting your day today. I am a 100% city girl who has learned so much from both you and Mark’s videos regarding farming and livestock care. I now have a much higher level of appreciation for the food that appears on my table. I don’t think I’ve seen a profession that works harder than a farmer. Much love from Florida USA.
That’s awesome!! Thank you!
YOUR FAMILY SURE ARE HARD WORKING BUNCH!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! FROM WACO TEXAS!!!!
Love that Jack wants a job that's random. That's exactly what my engineering grad says!
Love these vlogs!
I’m so impressed Sandy and Mark thank you for the up close video of the whole process. I love it it’s amazing so impressed with all of you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video love the harvesting and how it all is done as I as a farmer don't harvest anything but hay and silage.
Hi Sandi, love your videos. Don't know the first thing about farming, (though wish I grew up on a farm) .Great to see the combine in action. .♡ from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Thanks so much!!
It’ll sound weird, but your use of a 5-gallon bucket as a feed funnel at 4:07 made me happy.
I’m all for practical ingenuity.
Lol!
Lol l loved it as well
Your awesome! Look forward to your videos all the time!!! Keep up the amazing work you do! Be yourself don’t let anyone else determine who you truly are!
Thank you!!!
Sandi Brock you are very welcome!
I have been wearing bandanas for all my adult life,(I’m 70) and have always been told I’m not cool ... well, obviously those naysayers were wrong! Yay, Jess & Sandi!
Hi Sandi, yasmin and Dan here from the letter. hope you're well and feeling good! We went shopping and bought two new sheep this week! Nice to have the lambing round up... Loved seeing the lamb races. Good luck with the harvest! Lots of love from the UK. Yasmin xx
So great Yasmin!!! Nice to speak to you again!!!
❤️
I live in a farming area in NJ (they don't call us the garden state for nothing!) and I really wish more people would realize just how intense farming is no matter where you are. There is always a lot of work to be done no matter the weather or how you feel. We used to milk cows by hand. Zero degrees and snowing? Got a fever? Guess what, twice a day you get out there and milk. Hay has to be done when ready, as do all crops. Relaxing can be a luxury. You have to love what you do. I get annoyed when you move farm equipment on a road and people in cars get mad because they have to slow down. I could go on, but i just want to say no farmers no food. I love your videos because whether its the sheep or the crops you guys show a little bit what life is like on a working farm. Hopefully those seeing this will come away with a new appreciation of where their food comes from. I know you only show a little of all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. So thank you for all you guys do! Love you guys! God bless and have a great rest of your harvest! 🐑🚜🌱💜
Thank you so much for the kind words!!!
My father was stationed in n.j. In the air force. Always talks about working on the local farms on his time off. Garden state is right!
@@kevinlesch9656 he was probably at McGuire AFB. It's now a joint hase. A lot of people think NJ is only the turnpike. We are really small state but we have an awful lot of stuff. We have forms we have the shore, wooded areas (over 22%of the state's area is the Pinelands), state forests and 5 National Wildlife refuges. Yes, there are also highly urbanized areas too.
The only labor intensive farming is 'dairy', everything else is seasonal and laidback. Comments?
Yes, even when I was really sick with the flu, in bed, feeling like death, got up, dragged myself to the barns and fed and watered the animals, carried bales of hay to the horses, but was too sick to go to my job in a lab. When it has to be done, you just do it. Broke my wrist once, and still found a way to move bales, carry water buckets and bags of feed with one hand. You care for you animals no matter what.
I always loved watching the farming equipment when ever I was going to my grandma's farm and watching them in the surrounding wheat, barley and canola fields that were in the area and I couldn't be prouder of our manitobian farmers
That canola being combed into the machine is very satisfying. Canola is EVERYWHERE here in Alberta. Everyone hates walking through it, too much tripping haha.
Sandi, your kids are such an amazing combo of you and Mark.
Thank you all for nourishing my farmer inherited genetic codes. Love catching up with new technology, protocols and farming from the other side of the world.
Hi Sandi, I was so happy when I saw you put out a video today 🤗🤗🤗 And when I saw it was a your take of Mark harvesting, I just had to watch y’all on my big screen tv 😎😎😎 we even had a cameo appearance of the sheep🥰🥰🥰 I’ve been praying for y’all to have a bountiful harvest this year, y’all are such a joy to watch you and Mark have done a very good job raising Jess and Jack they look like such sweethearts and hard workers... You are all be far my favorite farming family... Sending you all lots of blessings and love from Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼🥰🥰🥰
Loved this video. So proud of Mark and the new crop. You are so great to watch Sandi. So much joy on your face while you're working. The kids are awesome as usual. Very happy for you and your family.
Love Jess so much, she's so funny
love these harvest videos from you guys!
I really enjoyed this video. I haven't seen to much of what Mark does. I started watching during December lambing season. Welcome home Jack.
Thanks Tina!
You work together like a finely tuned machine. Thanks for your great videos!
Love, love watching your videos, they relax me so I can press forward in my life. For skinny girls, you and Jess sure have the muscles.
I really enjoyed the video. It’s interesting to see how the whole systems for planting to harvesting. Thanks for taking us with you.
Great video and so nice to see the whole family working together and pretty much enjoying it!
Lol! Thanks Robyn!
was interesting to see how the Canola was harvested, I see a lot of it grown around where my family lives in Kentucky along with a lot of soybeans.
Love you and Jess goofing around! It made me smile
Lol! We do lots of that!
I love watching all you videos. Watching how your care for the lambs, ewes and rams is great. There is a respect given to animals that are raised to provide us (humans) with food.
I know not all livestock raising is done with as much heart. It goes beyond profits and being a business for you.
I also like seeing the John Deer tractors. I am not from the mid-west, however my husband is from Waterloo, IA. His father retired after working for 43 years for John Deer. I loved touring the factory where the large farming tractors are made to order.
Best wishes during these crazy times.
So glad the canola went well. It helps to diversify your crops. Good yield. We have lots of canola in Manitoba, not much winter canola though. You can tell I am a livestock person because when I saw the wheat harvest, I thought "great straw". Just like your lambing, spreading out harvest helps labour wise, but makes for a long season. Have a safe and productive harvest.
Great videos from you and Mark about the canola harvest. Thanks for explaining the details.
Wow! Such an awesome thing to watch. Your whole family is a well oiled-Machine. Yay for the good canola crop. Thanks for sharing.
Got home from work and noticed the new video 😁🙂😊 made my day again...good luck with harvest 🌾🌾
Thanks Mary!!!
Another great video, Sandi- you guys work hard!!!!❤️❤️❤️🚜🚜🚜🌾🌾🌾
Thanks Meghan!!!!
(Non- Farmer in England) Thanks, enjoyed that, fascinating complexity.Team you 4 doing v well!
Thanks John!
A Buggy in these parts is either a shopping cart or an Amish/Mennonite form of transportation.too funny! What a beast of a machine that combine is!
A buggy in these parts is children’s pushchair. For pushing little kids in. Also pulled behind a horse.
I always love wheat harvest! These days I concentrate on the beef cows and closest I get is unloading straw. Once in a while I get to bale straw. 23 years ago I worked a western harvest crew, at the end of that year I didn't think I'd ever want to see wheat again but just today I walked into a field ahead of my brother in the combine and picked a head and husked it just to pop it in my mouth. It tasted GOOD! I love wheat!
You are so happy today!!! Makes me feel so happy too!!🙃
Hi sandi, thanks for the ride along today. Be safe and well.
Will do! Thanks Laurie!
Sandi
You are very out standing lady. Mari is a lucky man to have a better half with you.
Wow so I have seen a lot of channels but none that showed the farm working like you have. usually its a lot of cut jumps and talking but to actually see the grain go in or come out is great. im a fan now
Awe, you made me miss the years I worked for Cargill.I loved working in the elevator and loading the barges. Being hot while covered in grain dust, dirt and sweat brings back some great memories. Mark you took a chance and your neighbors are going to be better for it. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL! I’m going to guess but I think that you’re going to see a few more acres of Canola planted around your “neighborhood” next year. 😂
Again, well done and God Bless!
Nice to see the ladies making videos on here. Great stuff 👏. Red one too. I like the green ones more 😆. 🇬🇧
Wow you guys do so much and I'm more than happy to sit and watch 👀
as a son of Farmer I really love the way you do your work ....I am from India ❤️
As a former USAF member i remember my flight-line AirCraft Mechanic buddies would have to account for each and every Tool and Parts. They had a system to check-out and check-in each shift.
I do not know how he could work out the logistics of that in the shop or out in the field.
I can see out this could have been much worse and caused much worse damage.
I’m glad it did not!!!
I enjoy seeing how your family works so well together. Your daughter seems like she is going to be a bigger Comedian than the rest of the family!
I always love watching all the harvesting. It really is like watching you guys dance! Love learning what equipment does what and how it works is fascinating to me! We have heavy equipment on our property but nothing like your farming equipment! Love it! 👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Missy!
Watching yours following watching Mark's So glad you got a good harvest. Mark seemed so pleased.
Good work everyone... Have a good day 😙😘❤️🤗
Thanks!!
Where I live in Sweden they grow canola everywhere. (" raps" in Swedish). The fields are yellow whereever you look😀.
Such a pretty crop when it’s flowering!!
Same in North East Germany. Raps everywhere. Don't bother washing the car in early summer. It's always lightly dusted in yellow raps pollen :)
It’s not actually Canola in Europe (Canola is GM & isn’t grown in Europe) it’s know as rapeseed in Europe
There is absolutely zero canola here in west central MN so it is fun to see other farmers raising & harvesting it. We won't start wheat for 10 days or so I think. Good luck on with the rest of your wheat harvest.
Thank you for letting me follow your day
It was very interesting.
Lol Jess shaking what her momma gave her 😂
Nice video, I hope the financial part of the harvest of canola will be very positive, and wish you a very nice 2020 harvest ! Thx 4 sharing . Greetings from Belgium
So cool! I’m not a farmer but the daughter (now 74) of my Iowa farmer dad who grew corn and soybeans. One of my brothers farms in Boone, Iowa,. Dad owned what we called “the home farm” in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and over the years some other towns. He also was a school principle and a college Algebra teacher. Farming was in his blood. I enjoy your vids on sheep farming and crop farming and think it is so fabulous to see a woman do these careers. It is hard work and satisfying sometimes and dramatic other times. The weather is always the top conversation. Your crops look beautiful. My dad would take me out to the farm some evenings after supper (we lived in town) and we’d sit and watch the wind ripple the tops of the fields like they were lakes.
Sounds like wonderful memories!!!
It is all amazing......love to watch it....thankyou
I’ve never really been all that into the crop part of you vlogs but this was so interesting I think I’ll go back and watch some more thanks Sandi!!!
Thanks for sharing - I have never seen canola before let alone harvesting it
Thank you sooo much for this video. I've always wanted to ride in one of the big farm tractors and I finally got to with you. I was on the edge of my seat thru the whole thing 😆. Very entertaining and informative. Even though I love watching you I would love to see a video of Jess milking the cows.
I love your farm and house. I've always have wanted a farm and old farm house. But I have to be content with my 3 chickens and sad excuse of a garden. 😆
I’ve likely got the same sort of garden! Lol
You do a good and beautiful job and follow all the requirements of the farm from place to place and from machine to machine. You are a strong and cheerful woman. I wish you and your family success in your work ..
I wish I could get a job with you on the farm .. Really, I can do a lot of work and a lot of other things. I am from (Iraq) and I hope to get a job on your farm or on another farm
I appreciate that to you very much with regards💐
My favorite was nosing In for a moisture sample😳😳😎😁😁
This was a great video! It is so interesting as someone who is not a farmer seeing how different it is between your farm and @thisfarmwife farm
Those Brent machines look brand new! The glass is so clean and they are sparkling! Mark have new toys? lol
Love these harvesting videos. 👍👍👍❤️
"He's unloaded into me twice" Lmao
OMG!😂😂😂
'He puts his spout in my buggy' was also heard .. ;-)
Farmers do like to plow 😳
Jaime Pulido grow UP people!
Kathie Bogue Sandi liked it 🤷♂️
Love all the videos but it always makes me sad to see the old house empty. It reminds me of an old auntie who has been forgotten about
This video makes my heart happy
