I made a lapse in judgement...

Watching you with Jess reminds me of my Mom and I. Mom was fiercely independent, and now that I’m a senior, and she’s passed, I can see how her independence shaped my life, and gave me an “I can do it” attitude. This will help her succeed in life. You and Mark are great role models.
The farmyard is one of the most dangerous places to work. I knew someone who was killed when a bale fell on her, and a close friend ended up with a fractured back and her leg snapped in two places when the hay bales she was working with toppled, throwing her to the ground from some height. So pleased you came out unscathed.
The feeling of satisfaction/relief at seeing the barns/ silage pits/ bale stacks/grain bins full is a universal farming thing. There is so much work in achieving that end and SO much that can (and does) go wrong that when you get there the feeling is sometimes quite overwhelming. I have lived on a farm for nearly 60 years and the sense of achievement never dulls. Well done all of you.
Glad you are ok, Sandi. You're right, Sandi. Last minute plan changes can be dangerous. Wait until Mark is rested a bit, before telling him what happened. And don't get mad when he pitches a fit.
I LOVED this video! Towards the end, when you started talking about the cycle of the wheat, your love for what you do just shone through.
I think that this is your gift: reconnecting us to what has become invisible.

You do a great job of explaining the Science of Agriculture on your farm: the cycle, etc. For someone who knew NOTHING just last year, it has been absolutely gobsmacking!

There is beauty, artistry, and science in everything you do. And, you have a very large operation for just four people. Those machines certainly make it all possible. Without both, we'd all be in a pickle, with empty plates staring back at us from the table.

People should watch your videos if they want to know how farming works. Farmers work hard each and every day no matter what weather comes. I miss the smell of fresh cut hay. Someday I will have a farm again. thank you for all you do!!!

So glad your guardian angel was on duty, the windshield held and you were not hurt. Working with heavy machinery always has an element of danger. Whether it's a loader or a car a close call keeps us on our toes; we have all had them.

Power tools and equipment are necessary and helpful but dont allow much room for error. Even these wake up scares can be helpful. Being diligent is full time and not very easy. Glad you are ok!!!
I think you do a good job explaining your farming cycle. It appears you are being great caretakers of your land and the environment. It restores my faith in human beings and care for the planet. If all farmers (most importantly commercial farmers) were as conscientious as your family farm we would be in better shape. Thank you. Lots of people ARE watching and listening.

Sandi you do stack up the bales really well, when they don’t fall over. I am sooooo glad no one got hurt because I live near farms and accidents happen. They happen quickly and lives get lost. I know you always learn from mishaps and , like you said, you knew better. Maybe it was just a quick wake up call about safety for everyone watching. If it can happen on Sandi’s farm, it can happen anywhere. When you said that you and Jess moved a bale on your own....massive respect here for you both! Girl power. Thank-you for showing this to us. I am sooooo thankful that it wasn't worse. The fact that it can happen so easily is what is often not realized. I noticed you didn't video Mark's reaction. Watching him in his new "baby", I think he would have had a tough time if it happened to him. At least it happened to old faithful. I do enjoy the field videos. They are part of the whole process.

You know how exhausting it is to get a major adrenaline rush like I am sure you had when those bales toppled. I am guessing that Mark may have experienced the same thing (though not as intense, I hope) when you told him about it. If that happened at the end of the storing of the straw - I am not surprised he called the day early and you are both exhausted. Farm work is always physically demanding. This day was also emotionally demanding, plus some. I am so grateful the only damage was to a machine which is reparable.
The dog taught you well that if she licks her lips it tells you to feed it. I know this cause my dogs taught me as well. Wow, thank God you backed that up or danger would be your nickname. To tell truth I would have much rather not seen you climb the side of the sheep building door this last winter!!! All the bales done and no little ones hiding in straw forts, job done.guys. Blessings

Do not beat yourself up about the bales. These things happen and it is called life. I thank God for watching and keeping you safe.
Thank you for showing the bales coming down. This type of accident happens on farms. Using equipment in farming can be dangerous. The machinery is large and powerful yet we know and feel comfortable in operating it and yet one small mishap can lead to trouble. This time of year as work gets busy on the farm and in the field we must be doubly careful. Thank you for reminding use of this. So glad no injuries. May all be careful.
That straw is beautiful! I remember when I was learning to stack my first or so times on the bed of a truck having that stack come down on me and falling off the back end, but they were small bales. Wow, that reminded me of what happened to me. My heart sank when those large bales were coming down on you and nothing moved and I heard Jess call out if you were alright. :( So glad you were not hurt!! I am also glad you kept it in for us to learn from that mistake. I did! For me, if I change my mind about something like that or something else, stop and see what will or could happen! I have a habit of not stopping and just doing... Thanks

Try putting your end bales in long ways it will give you a more stable wall to stack against

Can the bobcats arms pick up the bale(s) without the bale falling in half??
@@jennyemerson8035 It's squeezed together really, really tight , the big bale is made up of many flakes of hay that don't move around when squeezed tight like that. The twine is really strong and tied while the baler is compressing all the flakes together, when it moves out compression chamber the bale wants get longer and decompress but it cant because of the twine tied around it so it stays extremely tight together and allows her move them by only poking the bale spear into the side. If you pause the video at 13:00 minutes you can see all the flakes in the side of the bales Mark is moving! Hope that helps
Most accidents occur due to fatigue and all of you have been pushing hard to get your harvesting done . Yeah, I miss the sheep ,too. But that isn't the only thing you do to shepherd your flock. You have many outside tasks that leads to them prospering. You give us glimpse inside your operation. You don't post only the good things that happen but, all things that happen. So that all of us can see it isn't all roses. Keep putting it out there, can't go wrong telling the truith

Made me cringe! Glad nobody was hurt. The bobcat can be fixed. I almost was crushed when a row of hay fell. It happened in a split second and I almost didn't get out of the way in time! Lesson learned.

Sandi, we all make mistakes, you are so brave to share yours. It's what makes you real and makes me love and respect you even more. It's just scary when it's done and you realize what could have happened. I feel for you because replaying it in your mind is nerve racking enough. Having to edit it must have been so much worse. As you said other than some "battle damage" on the bobcat you and Jess were ok. That is what is important.
I'm glad you're okay! One of the regular fights I had with my father was about my refusal to rush and push extra to avoid something like a field of mowed hay being rained on. It rarely worked anyhow and we ended up with more broken equipment that way.
I remember the video where you climbed up the garage door while rigging something to get rid of birds nest...something to that effect. At any rate, I screamed when you did that and this one!! I can’t point a finger. I do the same type of things! Love your farm and family!

Thanks for sharing this video. Do be extra careful when you are tired and at the end of the day, glad you are ok. Glad there are safety bars over the cab. Good to have extra straw. Put the stuff on the floor on the garden walk ways for mulch, keeps the weeds down. Or put it the garden area over the winter and till it in before planting. Have a great safe weekend.
