WOW! This was a surprise for us! We already knew that Austin and Rob sang well, but the operatic register of this song took their talent to another level of awesomeness! And let's not even talk about the suits... 😍😍😍
Rob was actually trained in Opera in college. Austin has musical theater background. It was Austin's idea to do this and he had to talk him into it. Rob had not done opera in about 15 years. They are both tenors Austin is a first tenor (high) and Rob is a second tenor (lower). Always enjoy your reactions to these guys.
Such a treat! But seriously, Rob sounds like a different artist than we hear when he sings with Home Free! I don't care for opera, but these two "tried" and did what I didn't expect--they made me want to watch it over and over again. Who knew? 🤭
Loved your shocked expressions! Given Home Free's comedic ability, quite a few reactors thought this might be lip sync'd or a spoof. Rob studied and performed opera but that was 15 years ago. This was Austin's idea. Took some encouragement from him to get Rob on board. In Home Free Rob sings tenor so his beautiful, deep richness, here, was definitely a surprise. Given the overwhelming positive response they've received on this performance, hopefully the guys continue to branch out, explore new ideas (we see some in their new album which just released...a video from one of the tracks posted yesterday). Always look forward to your doing Home Free!
The diction is what surprised me most. I speak Spanish and can understand some Italian, and Rob's diction was almost perfect... Austin's wasn't perfect but it was pretty close to it. Rob's tone and mouth shaping was absolutely pure opera, too. Overall, this was absolutely fantastic.
I've been waiting for your reaction on this one ladies, and your shocked look on your faces is exactly what all of us Home Fries experienced as well. We all know how talented these guys in HF are, but this performance by these two tenors shows their talent is even greater than we thought. Thank you for your reaction. It was fun to watch you two and yes, they do dress up fine.
Great Reaction! I have never been a fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.
Hello my FAVORITE ACADEMIC HOME FRIES!! I guess I always have to start that way. 😀Another FANTASTIC reaction!! The STUNNED looks on your faces when Rob started his first solo was PRICELESS!! To be fair, Rob did study opera several years ago, but he hasn't done it in several years. Then Austin asked him to join him on this one. I can't think of a better duo to do this. I did notice though that the title that was showing during your reaction was wrong. But still, just watching your reactions was a GREAT time!!! Sonia being brought to the point of tears from about the midway point all the way to the end. Sofia just in shock the whole way through. LOVED IT!! I'll catch up with y'all later. Have a GREAT DAY!! Stay Safe!! Love Y'all BUNCHES!!
Thank you for your comment! We were just hit by a train, that at a point in our dialogue we had to speak in Portuguese because we coudn't find the words! Love from Portugal ❤
Thank you for posting this video. I am totally dumb struck.Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this floorless performance.I hope that we will hear more of these amaizing two.Reguards from,Michael Jonathan Lewis,R D P,Johannesburg, South Africa.
Austin is a lyric tenor with a high range and Rob is an amazing dramatic tenor. Their different voices harmonize beautifully. I agree that they triumphed with this beautiful and difficult aria. I enjoyed your reactions and felt the same.
Wasn’t that wonderful?!!! I thought I was going to be rickrolled and then this happened. Wow, I knew Rob had studied opera in college but that was years ago. And Austin studied musical theater. They both sounded great. So much fun. Loved your reactions!😍
I just want to say that of all the reactions to Rob and Austin and this song that I've seen, and I've watched many, yours is the best and most authentic reaction so far. Thank You ladies
I have no idea what they are singing, but every time I listen to it, my heart swells and my eyes fill with tears. So beautiful and moving. Home Free is the greatest musical group in human history! They can sing any song, from an genre, and do it better than most of the originals!
Your reactions were priceless. All of the guys are branching out a bit. Tim Foust and Austin Brown have formed another group, Sweet and Low Music Co. They will be live streaming later today. Not to worry, Home Free is not going away.
Hello Ladies! So, was that something or what? I thought they were going to do something funny at first, but when they started I couldn't believe it was them. Rob actually studied opera in college so he has a background. Austin has theatrical training. It blew me away. I had mentioned to you in a previous reaction that my son and I were going to see them live in a nearby town, and we did. They were amazing to say the least. Very humble and down to earth, and of course funny. Their harmonies were just as on point as their recordings. They put on a wonderful show. If you ever have the chance to see them live, definitely go see them. Great reaction.
They describe themselves as Austin the high tenor and Rob the lower tenor in the group. They surprised even the Home Fries with this one. They did an amazing job with this.
That sneaky, obvious classically trained voice, we now know, Rob. Ha ! And Austin giving it his excellent best shot, now that was a fun eye opener ! You never judge a book....
Every time I hear Luciano Pavarotti sing this I end up in tears. When I listened to these two guys, I ended up the same. Fantastic! Wonderful! I cannot believe these they are just country singers, their voices are awesome. And their diction is so clear, you can actually understand the individual words. Thank you so much for putting this video up. I am now going to check out Rob and Austin's albums.
Ladies, I am so pleased to see that you reacted to this ❤. I have watched this so many times, such an incredible performance, and Rob was worried that the fans wouldn’t like it, oh my goodness, the fans were blown away, I want more.
When you start your Christmas journey this year, please listen to “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Adam arranged this masterpiece several years ago and it is awesome! Also on Chris Rupp’s channel (Adam’s brother and one of the original members of home free) they sing “What Child is This?” With all six of them singing!! I really enjoy watching your journey with Home Free! ❤
In operatic terms, Austin is a lyric tenor and Rob is a heroic or dramatic tenor. Traditionalists in the Italian operatic tradition tend to despise lyric tenors, but then Germans despise Italian singers trying to do Wagner. In the UK and in Eastern Europe, lyric tenors are popular, particularly if they're good-looking! We have a tradition in the UK of song recitals, with piano or orchestral accompaniment, for which heavy Italianate voices are unsuitable. And a lot of modern opera calls for lighter higher voices. Actually if you listen to Rob's solo spots in the Sea Shanty Medley, you can hear that same dropped larynx that he uses here, so it should not have been such a surprise! One of the most impressive things about this project is the courage it took to do it at all. Although both are deeply loved by Home Free fans, they didn't know how this would be received. Doing something where it may be clear that you just weren't good enough means risking looking a fool, with the shadow of failure hanging over you for years. So it took great courage to put in the work on the aria and release it. Trivial fact: Austin's tie is the one the guys wore in their version of Crazy. I bet he thought no-one would recognise it.
Wasn't that wonderful? Mom used to listen to The Irish Tenors and The Three Tenors and Pavarotti. I think she would have adored what Rob and Austin did here. Thank you ^_^
This is why music is such an amazing language, all in itself.......I do not understand one word they sang, but I felt every lyric, every note, and every emotion, which says a lot about their amazing artistry & talent ❣❣❣
Hi teachers! Been waiting for your reactions. Hope there aren't any flies in the room. And, yes, just about everyone of you reactors have that look that says, "Who are these guys all dressed up? And what have they done with Rob and Austin"?
Sonia I loved your reaction. Your body language said it all. From the first note you were captivated. Watching you kind of clutching your chest/throat then clenching your fist showed how immersed you were in this performance.
I agree Ladies, they look so handsome in those beautiful Italian suits !!! Tenor - men are tenors women are sopranos 👍😎. Rob did study opera in college & Austin, he studied musical theater I college. When Austin approached Rob to do this project, Rob told he'd do it but that it had been 15 years since he had sung any opera...but they did it and it is awesome. What can these guys not sing? By the way their new song dropped on Friday....it's AWESOME you'll love it...mild country & very upbeat message...name is : Understood
Rob has always had the best voice in home free. so many people get carried away with the soaring notes of Austin (awesome) or the the depth of Tim (awesome) But Rob has a tenor that comes around very rarely. Austin didn't really do opera but he hadn't really trained for it either. The nasality of his notes and the placement of his larynx ensures a musical theater/classical crossover While Rob did study years ago in opera, and he would have had an amazing career in it. I am very glad that they chose to go with acapella.
The SINGING IS THE ABILITY TO NEGOTIATE THE SEVEN NOTES IN THE MUSICAL REPERTOIRE .... the learning of ITALIAN, Practicing the Mid range - ROB - A Mid Tenor ... and the Harmonic accompaniment of Austins HIGH TENOR on top is SHEAR BRILLIANCE .... no one can sing it any better .... a trained Opera singer has formalized the rudiments of expected Breathing, power and sustain in the notes held etc ... but, how many can say THESE ARE NOT AS GOOD OR BETTER SINGERS !? The fact is they can sing ANYTHING !!!!!! And do ! GBjj (Home Fry)

This popped up and what a pleasant surprise. Nessus Dorma is one of my favorites. Now I’ll have to check out the artist’s page.
Rob has always had the best voice in home free. so many people get carried away with the soaring notes of Austin (awesome) or the the depth of Tim (awesome)

Oh I have another question.....since Portuguese & Italian are both romance languages, how much can you understand when they sing in Italian???
We understand a lot because we studied Italian in college and we also studied Latin (for 5 years) and French (for 8 years), so it's not difficult for us to understand the lyrics. If they're talking to us, it depends on the diction of the person. 5 years ago we went to Milan and we understood what people said to us.
Hi! Naturally we understand almost everything if spoken slowly, but we had Italian in University so we understand the song. ☺
I love your reaction!
Lady on the right REALLY likes to talk!!!
That's OK. She's a real cutie. Cuties are _allowed_ to talk as much as they like.
