I think it is quite common, because every reaction I have ever seen, first time out, to Mitch is exactly the same, astonished and astounded, in utter disbelief.

The term I've seen is Mitchslapped which is a little funny but it fits oh so well. I've seen some other first-time reaction vids to Pentatonix, and pretty much every time Mitch hits does his oh so beautiful high notes, everyone gets the same reaction, and the comments say it all: Mitchslapped.
In fact, Avi (trained as a basso profundo) had been invited to join the Los Angeles Opera when he was approached to join Pentatonix just a couple of days before they were to audition for The Sing Off.

Yeah that is the standard Mitch face, this is the becoming the definitive cover of this song in my opinion. Great vid to react to...one thing just to listen for on a re-watch: when Avi takes the lead Scott switches to bass, he has something like a 4+octave range...they are all truly talented in their own right. Kevin also plays like 8 instruments and is classically trained on the cello...recommendation- Kirstin and her fiancee (at the time) do a Disney Love Medley with Voctave backing them. OUTRAGEOUS sopranos.
Scott starts soft in the beautiful midrange baritone+ Avi fills in the lower register and builds the emotion so powerfully, Then Kirstin soars it right into the stratosphere. Mitch puts an exclamation point and the beautiful ending.

When the Pentatonixs collaborated (featured) with the well-known violinist Lindsey Sterling to record the music video "Radioactive," Kevin Olusola got the opportunity to do more than just sing or "beat-box." Kevin is seen playing the Cello, so 'yes' does play cello, but he seldom has such an opportunity when almost all of the Pentatonix music is a cappella.
Pentatonix is always amazing. They are each special in their own way, but Avi is wild. The depth and breadth of his voice makes them sound like an entire damn choir, not 4 people.

Mitch is my favorite. He is a countertenor. Btw, when reacting to a song especially by Pentatonix, headphone is a MUST! In that way you get to appreciate the bass' voice. Okay? Okay..🙃
I have listen to this song a thousand times, but up until recently, I did notice that at the impact moment after mitch’s solo, you can hear Avi doing a low countermelody which sounds absolutely sick👀👀👀👀
I'm sure others have informed ypu of Kevin's talents but if you want to see him play the cello and beatbox at the same time review the PTX version of Shallow.

Each member of PTX has an amazing voice and could probably be successful on their own. BUT ... something magical happens when they blend their voices. Just stunning.
A beautiful and well-known song, beautifully performed of course by this wonderful acappella group! Thank you so much for the professional critique. You pointed out how they accomplish certain affects, the strengths of each individual singer, and you did it in both of scholarly and easy to understand manner. As usual, your comments were educational, entertaining and helped me understand more about this group and in particular, how they are able to achieve such a wonderful blend of harmony. Thank you very much for another great reaction video! 😊👍🎶🎵😍
I think this is one more reason why we love Maggie, she has the skills, the training, the experience ($6 Million Woman) to analyze and explain why a song works and to also explain the vocal skills involved. This is just one more reason why Maggie is so exceptional
So far I have seen people reacting on many different aspects of their voices and arrangement and even wardrobe, but one guy did commentary on the cinematography and says everything is spot-on in this video. This is what perfection looks like.
You're vocal analysis/commentary is so interesting. It's so cool to see someone really appreciating the intricacy of what they're doing (particularly how they can shift between such an amazing blend and a 'soloist' voice that can make their sound distinctive)
The tall blond guy is Scott Hoying-Baritone; the girl is Kirstin Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the bearded guy with the turban, is Avi Kaplan, Basso-Profundo; and the Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola, Tenor/Cellist/Cellist Beatboxer. Scott, Kristen, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX (between Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX). After graduation they went to different colleges and majored in music. They got back together for a TV competition called "Sing-Off." They required 5-person groups, so Avi, and Kevin came on-board by referrals. There is no lead singer, as they all sing lead. The video is at the California Mojave Desert.
Congratulations on your talent and that you cherish it enough to develop it fully. You will notice that most of them have wonderful ranges. There is no instrument, but they make all the sounds themselves - a truly a cappella group.
Kevin plays the cello in Shallow (beatboxes at the same time), Thank You, and Perfect (I may be forgetting some). He also plays the sax, and has played at Carnegie Hall. He also speaks Spanish and Mandarin, is an amazing beat boxer, tenor, song writer, and Yale graduate.
i did the same thing at the end i kept rewinding it and listening to the very end , it sounds like a heavenly powerful sound just above where perfect is !!

I know this is a re-post, but you can see Kevin play cello while beat boxing in Pentatonix's "Radioactive" video. It's a collaboration with Lindsey Stirling on violin and, frankly, I think it's better than the original by Imagine Dragons. I just found your channel and watched you react to Pentatonix Hallelujah. I just love to watch somebody hear Mitch for the 1st time He is so amazing I just love him and hes cute as a button. And the term that goes with seeing him for the 1st time is "You just got Mitch slapped".LOL
He is a countertenor. I firmly believe he's capable of reaching coloratura soprano on the scales, but that's just my opinion. What you were referring to toward the end was what we Pentaholics call their Wall of Sound. For the record, that face you made when Mitch began singing is what we call being Mitch-slapped. You could also,I suppose have been Avi-lanched. Or perhaps even KO'ed (Kevin Olusola +'ed). About Avi, he's classically trained as an operatic bass. Also, Kevin has perfect pitch which makes him the obvious choice for keeper of the beat. But he does sing occasionally, and has a lovely tenor voice with a wonderful falsetto reach. As you can see here, Kirsten (pronounced as a rhyme for Sir Sten) is a mezzo-soprano, and is their most apt and most skilled belter. However, all of them are capable of full on belts, or blended belts, or whatever else will serve the needs of the arrangement. Scott, ah,great Scott, he's indeed a baritone with a range that allows him to cover the bass line whenever the bass is singing lead in his higher registers, and can cover throughout the tenors. They're all capable of five to six octave ranges minimum, and that includes Kevin. As for the cello, Kevin plays cello, saxophone, and keyboards, but not here. If you don't see the instrument, they don't use an instrument. Any effects are made with their voices and bodies. Avi can produce a wind effect while still producing the notes he's singing. Just some information about the group that might prove helpful. If you want something with the new bass, Matt, try Sound of Silence or the Prayer or Amazing Grace. Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Daft Punk Medley, and Bohemian Rhapsody are good ones for listening to more Avi. Also, Kevin gets singing time in Imagine, Amazing Grace and Mary Did You Know if that's something you want to see. 90s Dance Medley is a fun watch as well, as is pretty much anything they did.
Scott covers the bass line when Avi, or Matt, takes the melody. Scott has a huge range. Kevin first came to Pentatonix’s notice from a video of him playing cello and beat boxing simultaneously.

I just discovered you. I’ve been a fan of Pentatonix since their founding. I sooo loved your reaction 😍 I also love your voice, it’s so beautiful 😍😍😍
Welcome aboard! Hope you check out my brand new PTX video!
Im a pentaholic and i have tonsay that I loved your reaction
I subscribed. Plz keep them this genuine🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I know this is a re-post, but you can see Kevin play cello while beat boxing in Pentatonix's "Radioactive" video. It's a collaboration with Lindsey Stirling on violin and, frankly, I think it's better than the original by Imagine Dragons.
Also, check out Teddy Swims if you get the chance - Rock with you, I can't make you love me, You're still the one, etc.
And Justin Timberlake/Christ Stapleton - Say something.
Thank you for your continued support and lovely comment. Will you be joining my fun LIVE Stream today in less than 1 hour where you can sponsor this reaction request to help me with Juilliard tuition, if you like? Say Something is AMAZING! I second that request! 😍
When she was reacting to Kirsten i instantly knew she was gonna get Mitch-slapped so hard with his voice.. What a beautiful reaction❤❤
I just found your channel and watched you react to Pentatonix Hallelujah. I just love to watch somebody hear Mitch for the 1st time He is so amazing I just love him and hes cute as a button. And the term that goes with seeing him for the 1st time is "You just got Mitch slapped".LOL
Thanks for your comment! 🥰 Can't wait to see you in the chats on my livestream in 30 minutesy! 💟
Avi is the man, and Pentatonix is a truly special group. Cheers!
YAY! Hope you can join me tomorrow for another fun PTX LIVE stream at 8pm EDT?
This was the one that brought me here. Thanks for welcoming me into the "family".
So glad you found me!! Thank you so much for your support and see you soon! 😀
Maggie - you are so humble. I think your own voice is AMAZING.
Scott covers the bass line when Avi, or Matt, takes the melody. Scott has a huge range. Kevin first came to Pentatonix’s notice from a video of him playing cello and beat boxing simultaneously.
Leonard Cohen (the songwriter) heard & watched this video, Said it was BEST rendition of this is song. The best compliment!!
Just think of Mitch as what an angel will sound like …if you join the heavenly chorus.
Saw this once already, but had to watch again. ❤️ the react, also never realized how
Pretty your hair was. WOW
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you tomorrow at my new Premiere?
Sorry they keep blocking you.
On the bright side, I get to watch you react to hearing Mitch's voice for the first time every time.
You are so sweet! Thank you so much for your support! Stay tuned for a nice Premiere tomorrow morning at 9am EST of a brand new reaction video. Also, if you would like to connect more closely, please join our Patreon Family: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee
My favorite reaction of your's!!! I've never seen you react and pause Pentatonix fan! You go beautiful!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on Twitch in 1 hour for a LIVE stream of reactions and singing? www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic
❣**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of *WTF* 🙃 😊🙃 I have heard from other coaches that Mitch is considered a counter tenor, and if you want to see more in his high range, check out The Payer!
When Avi was singing his solo, Scott was doing that amazing bass. That blew my mind when I learned about that tidbit.
I’ve seen many reactions to this. I’m waiting for someone to talk about that ridiculous high note Mitch hits during the closing chorus before the mmms at the end
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you for my Premiere of a new reaction video to Superfruit in about an hour?
That high note is very well hidden it’s hard to hear it if you don’t know about it
I think you’d like the Bee Gee’s “I started a joke”. It’s an oldie like “Unchained Melody” but it has a blend of pop and sorrow that is awesome.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you Friday for my Premiere of a new reaction video to Unchained Melody?
Maggie you are the best!! Keep up the excellent work!!
scott's range is crazy - he covers bass when the bass has lead
Congratulations on 100K subscribers! 🥳
Thank you so much 😀 Hope to see you this week on my LIVE streams on Thursday at 3pm EST and on Saturday at 6pm EST? Also, if you would like to connect more closely, please join our Patreon Family: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee
Loved your reaction and this is one of my favorite pentatonix covers. I saw them in concert and it was such a beautiful and emotional experience because they sound exactly the same live as they do recorded. ✋
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my Valentine's Day Live Streams today? 💖😊
@@maggiereneemusic I will try my best. Feeling under the weather so I have been sleeping a lot. I wish I could sing like you. In seventh grade my choir opened for the rockets. We beat out 20 other choirs including adult gospel choirs. I sing all the time but in private. Lol I try in public and nothing comes out lol
I really wish you would listen to Kevin Olusola's "Down" if you haven't dear.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you join me for a new Premiere of a reaction video to Floor tonight?
Your expressions match exactly how our hearts feel when we hear this magic!
Just dropping a line to boost the video. Hopefully it stays up this round.
Love your support! Thank you! I hope it stays up too, but probably they will take it down in a couple of weeks, unfortunately. 🤣
yes, Avi on last low note. They are sooo good!
I don’t trust people who don’t react to the Mitch affect (effect?) exactly like you...
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?
the "Mitch Moment"
Love it when you sing along! You have such a beautiful and happy soul :)
You really need to check out Scott’s trio singing “Blowin’ In The Wind”. He is amazing...
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you for my Premiere of a new fun reaction video to Superfruit in less than an hour?
Their lives are as perfect as their recordings.. I'd recommend to listen to all of their songs. ♥️♥️♥️

Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you for my Premiere of a new fun reaction video to Superfruit in about an hour?
