Matthew "Austin" Brown is a lead tenor in Home Free, an American a cappella group of five vocalists, Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust, and Adam Chance. Starting as a show group, they toured around 200 shows a year across the United States. The group competed in and won the fourth season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2013.

His advice applies to not just singing but all careers. Live him.
He does have his pasaggio under perfect control. You can only tell he is in head by a slight change in timbre. Combined with his strong falsetto you have a perfect lyric tenor.

I love how on the second chorus he intentionally makes it super falsetto-Y to make his reassertion of the melody more powerful without making it feel frail by bookending it with airy unstable notes.

Interesting note on Austin. Before he joined Home Free, he was working on becoming a Broadway singer and had worked hard to try and lose the accent. Obviously joining Home Free completely changed his trajectory :D

(I'm unabashedly a blues/rocker person). I'm also going to throw in Alanis Morrissette, "Uninvited". I look forward to your reaction to any of these songs. If you haven't heard yet (just came out) Austin's cover of Etta James, At Last, oh man! I near cried, it was so incredible. I ended up even loving it more than this if possible. And I LOVE this. But the other is so super relaxing, almost put me to sleep in a great way. I love how all of Austin's words are sung so we can understand them. He doesn't ever show any effort. He has learned so much about how to breath and hold his breath and his falsetto, etc.. When you are at live shows, it's hard to believe what he can do. He's special. I hope he puts out an album of all the new originals and covers. He's got just about enough by now to make an album. And I'LL BE BUYING IT FAST when he does! Take care, thanks for this reaction. Austin has HAD some classical training. Years before he joined HF. In some live shows, he sings some "opera-type" stuff, as HF shows off his voice. When he does this, he has almost zero twang, and sounds like an opera singer.
Maggie I so love your enjoyment and analysis! Your appreciation of this wonderful music genre is honest and truly pure...it shows by how often you rewind to hear a specific run and teach us on what we are hearing. The most important aspect of any good music is joy and happiness and you show that always. You are the best at this !
