Yes. There are several songs where tenors hold notes for incredibly long times (HF's Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Mark Lowry in Voctave's Mary Did You Know), but a high note generally involves constricting the vocal cords, which holds back air. The lower the note, the more the throat is open, which allows more air to pass - Tim has to have the lung capacity of a whale. 🐳
Someone really needs to commission Maggie to react to his solo song, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay.' I mean, does Maggie even know that Tim has a whole solo album of old Do-wop songs?
Love the reaction Maggie... was a long time coming on this one! Avi is awesome... but I have to say with Tim's 5 octave range.. almost hitting Austin range.. he's just next level! Tim's BASS is no JOKE as he can switch his texture up in mid course making his vocals so versatile.. simply unmatched! FYI: LMAO your expressions with your eyebrows KILLED ME!! Love ya girl.... peace
Avi Kaplan's Bass is very warm sounding like a roaring fire which is perfect for this collab. Tim's Bass is just out of this world especially when you consider Tim's 5+ Octave range who can sing as low as G'1 and as high as an A5 in the tenor range!
If you haven't yet (you're falling behind, lol), you need to react to their "Stargazer Trilogy", all written by Austin. Chapter 1 is "Give Me A Sign", Chapter 2 is "Stargazer Lilies", Chapter 3 is "Mr". I think you'll like them!
I so glad to see you back with the Home Free reactions which was great btw. I really like how they showed off Avi's beautiful bass and at the end Tim is like (but wait theres more) and come in with his awesome unmatched G1.
A Maggie classic reaction! I love it!! Especially when you say you were at 4K subscroobers and now look at you at 255K Love that I was there from the very beginning of your channel and watching you and it grow, and twitch too! Well done Maggie!!!!
Avi switching to a cowboy hat at the end gets me every time. lol I originally listened to this song to hear Avi, which introduced me to Home Free. I became a fan of them as well after that.
I remember this one from the first time around! This is the one where you were closing in on 4K followers. And that itty bitty keyboard thingy! Great video. Some cool moments like when Austin looks up to see the high notes go up. And Avi putting his hat on cowboy style with a smile. Yep Tim we did it alright. And I absolutely love your reaction and analysis! This is the kind of reaction video that first made me a Maggie fan. >>>>>>>>> Secret! 💍Emoji!
I Love the Way that Home Free took Johnny Cash's song that June Carter Cash wrote and put their spin on it.....all the while keeping it as real as Johnny would have been Proud of!!! Thanks Maggie!!!
Oh, this was so much fun to watch your reaction again! Excellent reaction! Your love and knowledge of music is so evident. I had to smile at your excitement for having nearly 4K subscribers when you now have over 255K! Suggest: Skull And Bones by HF. It'll blow you outta the water! (Pun intended)
I am so pleased to hear your intelligent and joyful reaction to Home Free again, Maggie! It’s gratifying to me that you enjoyed the Ring 💍 of Fire video, as I did! Hoping you and your husband are well - God Bless!! ❤
Can we talk about how Tim not only hit that g1 but held it for as long as he did with zero fluctuation 🤯? I can sing low bass when needed and would love to have that range and control 😥. Down green beast !
Adding to Heather's urging you to listen to Avi's solo music, I specifically recommend you react to this song he wrote with Joy Williams (formerly of The Civil Wars) - "All Is Well". He's recorded 3 different versions of the song (including with Joy), but my favorite and most stunning is the 7 Layers Sessions version, with just him and his guitar in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands, where it was filmed during his 2022 European tour. As you might guess, the acoustics are fantastic and made studio reverb tweaking completely unnecessary. Oh, and Diamond Solitaire Ring...
Well if you love Avi you must check out his solo work! His latest album the Shooter Jennings produced Floating on a Dream and is amazing! There are the 11 tracks on the album 2 of which were re-done acoustically for The 7 Layers Sessions and 4 were re-done for the Live from Sunset Sound EP. really hoping you will fit him in!
When Home Free performed this in "The Sing Off" they took it a whole step lower, so Tim's last note was an F1. The judges where blown out of their seats. The host, Nick LeChey, reported a seismic event.
Avi has said that he doesn't use subharmonics because he's no good at it! That drop was a demonstration of the flexibility of his voice. As many have said - please consider reacting to Avi's solo work. He uses his entire range and its a beautiful thing!
Adam has such a huge repertoire of sounds in his beatboxing bag. H e truly is the master of beatboxing. The end of the song was actually Avi singing "the ring" , and Tim singing "of fire". So Tim can sing lower notes than Avi and his tone is brighter and more clean and crisp. Avi can get pretty low but he has a more warm velvety smooth tone. Also Tim seems to do more unusual runs. Also Austin and Rob seem to have the same sort of differences in their tenor voices. Austin, more sharp, crisp and clean as well as higher range, and Rob has a more smooth warm tenor voice. They all have such great advanced talent that is so EPIC. Loved your reaction, thank you.
the group sounds great with the opposite singing with lows and highs plus the fires adds to the image plus the sudden beat changes and Avi must be studying Geoff-lol
This is my wife's favorite Home Free song (cover). The 2 times we've seen them live, they did this as an encore. When Tim hits what I call the "Bass Note From Hell," it reverberates through your chest, and then through the rest of your body. A VERY unique feeling. It's so funny when Avi hits that low note, he looks so pleased with himself. but, then in your mind you're saying....just wait...
Avi does not use subharmonic but since he is classically trained, he is using the skills he learned while training. Tim is well know for using subharmonic techniques. I honestly believe Tim is a baritone. but has developed those techniques to produce his lower sounds.
Maggie, a reaction video I would really love to see is your reaction to Tim Fousts RANGE, it is astounding. His cover of Since I Don't Have You or The bass gangs cover of Hooked on a Feeling would be great places to start. BTW, just found your channel. I love it.
Nice job Maggie, glad you enjoyed. You're right, it's way too short. Since you put Baloo in there, suggest you react to Geoff Castelucci cover Bare Necessities. I mean, great song, and it's Geoff...
I am pretty sure that Avi's audio portions (actually all the audio portions) were added in for the final audio mix so his "bass drop" was not spontaneous or live. They all then travelled to Minnesota where the video portions were recorded.
Been watching your reactions for some time now and I really enjoy... Yes there are other singers and vocal coaches,,, but I enjoy your reactions most... Keep um coming sweetheart
fyi, I'm pretty sure that shift you were exclaiming over at about the 7 minute mark was Tim chiming in rather than Avi as you suppose and Avi's grin was in appreciation of it. It seems to me that this is a repost. I'm almost certain I've seen this reaction before. I guess it doesn't matter that much to me. It's not like I don't knowingly watch your reactions several times. Love Home Free, love Avi, love your reactions. Thanks. Nice ring by the way. I'm old enough to be your grandfather so you'll never be getting one of those from me. But I hope you do from somebody.
Way too short for us but they put out a perfect highlight reel of how great that would be in full length. Perhaps too much now that I think about it, they nailed it, so what's to add?
I think on Tim's G1 at the end, Avi was compliment bass as well. Avi has a smooth bass where Tim has the low crackle which is low, but not as full at that level. Not sure of the technical term for it but I have that as well and can only get to G#1. Close but no dice lol. Jealous of the G1. Great breakdown. Thanks.
I need to look at your catalog to make sure I didn't miss it, but if you haven't done Peter Hollens and Avi doing "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair," you're going to scream!
9:12 they absolutely can! One of 'the Bass Gang' members, Bobby Waters (Bobby Bass) has mentioned on occasion of a friend of his who was a female trying to learn subs and she not only got it, but actually reached 2nd subharmonic (down a fifth from the first subharmonic note) which is super cool!! essentially subs come down to singing that G3 you were on and slowly slipping into fry while also still singing the note, it will drop a perfect octave to the G2!! definitely worth looking into the mechanics of it because it's still a very unknown thing anatomically :)
This must have been an old reaction because you mentioned getting close to 4K subscribers. What do you think now, could you have imagined being at 255K subscribers? You go girl, you are so much fun to watch and enjoy the reactions.
I don’t know why you thought Avi had to be using some kind of subharmonics when he dropped the line “and the fire went wild.” I can sing along with him here and match him note for note, and I don’t know how to do subharmonics. I know what they are, but I haven’t learned how to do them.
Two things Maggie, I'd recommend also seeing their original cover on the sing off season 4. Second thing, I figure you can practice some of the tricks covered by Geoff Castelluci and other bass singers on subharmonic techniques. The main difference is they are bases and you're not; however, I think anatomy in men & women might be close to be able to practice the same techniques though.
If you like the low register singers, then you need to check out JD Sumner, who was part of the inspirations that sang with Elvis Presley. FYI, Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys also sang with Elvis. Both bass singers are awesome.
You need to listen to some of VoicePlay's latest, where Geoff hits (and holds) a B0!!! (Valhalla Calling) Shooketh and then some! But Home Free and Tim are so awesome. Not taking anything away from him.

When they sang this on _The Sing-Off_ Jewel had the ultimate compliment for Tim Foust, “You really have some sick range there country boy”. 😎🤠
I think the sing-off version is even better.
@@tassilo5949Agreed!
Much better!! ❤
The Sing-Off version is a half-note lower. And the host said they had people calling in reporting a seismic event.
@@DennisKovacich precisely why it's much better. 😉🫠🙃🥰
Love Avi's respect for Tim's ability that he removed his beanie and slipped a different hat on. Avi never takes his beanie off. Love both of them.
Not only did Tim hit that G1 at the end but he sustained it as well. Awesome!
Yup. On the life Sing-off version, it was an F#1, but he didn't hold it as long.
It was not only a G1, but he held it solidly for 9 seconds! Tim is a beast.
Yes. There are several songs where tenors hold notes for incredibly long times (HF's Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Mark Lowry in Voctave's Mary Did You Know), but a high note generally involves constricting the vocal cords, which holds back air. Tim actually holds the G1 for 13 seconds, amazing breath control because it takes a ton of air to hold a bass note that long.
Tim said in an interview that Adam can hold a note until you literally tell him to stop 😂😂😂
I love Avi's smile on the G1 and as he changed hats it was like a tip of the cap 😊
Someone really needs to commission Maggie to react to his solo song, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay.' I mean, does Maggie even know that Tim has a whole solo album of old Do-wop songs?
Would love to see you react to Avi’s solo music, most people start with Change on the rise but anything he’s done is absolutely amazing!
Please Please Please!!!
Avi is a bass singing master. I love his live video where he explores overtones for the audience.
That was a FANTASTIC version of this song. Your reactions, were absolutely priceless! Lol. It was great to see Avi too!😊
Love the reaction Maggie... was a long time coming on this one!
Avi is awesome... but I have to say with Tim's 5 octave range.. almost hitting Austin range.. he's just next level! Tim's BASS is no JOKE as he can switch his texture up in mid course making his vocals so versatile.. simply unmatched!

This reaction is two years old. :D
@knoxpuffer I thought so.
Avi Kaplan's Bass is very warm sounding like a roaring fire which is perfect for this collab. Tim's Bass is just out of this world especially when you consider Tim's 5+ Octave range who can sing as low as G'1 and as high as an A5 in the tenor range!

Way behind for sure!! Also don't forget Skull and Bones the live version is shorter but to me way better!!! ❤❤❤
I just knew you'd absolutely love this and go nuts. This was so fun. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤗
Avi, literally takes his hat off to Tim's low note :D. Classic
Actually he traded hats with Chris and was just putting it on.
Tim doesn't just goes into the basement, he goes into the basement to dig holes too! 😊
I so glad to see you back with the Home Free reactions which was great btw. I really like how they showed off Avi's beautiful bass and at the end Tim is like (but wait theres more) and come in with his awesome unmatched G1.

It amazes me how long Tim can hold that low note.
Amazing lows and thrilling highs. And the country harmony, just great.
Okay I'm impressed how close you came to hitting that low note!
I'm so glad you finally analyzed and explained subharmonics. I've been trying to figure that out and you provided the best explanation I've seen.
If you want to see Tim's range and ability check out his rendition of "Will you still love me tomorrow/Stay"
💍 About time you looked out for us Home Fries again ! More, MORE, NOW !!
I first heard them perform this in the Sing Off. Tim went so low that you couldn't hear him without headphones. Gorgeous.
The world is chock full of amazing talent and yet very little is brought to the recognition it hugely deserves, so sad.
I am so pleased to hear your intelligent and joyful reaction to Home Free again, Maggie! It’s gratifying to me that you enjoyed the Ring 💍 of Fire video, as I did! Hoping you and your husband are well - God Bless!! ❤

The best-known version of this song is a cover. It was written by June Carter Cash and first released by her sister.

Not only did Avi drop down like that for a bar or so but bounced right back up with no pause at all.

so home free sang this in a concert in oregon and when he hit that note he was picked up by the Rictor scale. Those measures earthquakes.
Avi smiled because Tim went low. Looking at the video through the smoke, they switch to show Tim, then back to Avi.
(I think)
Good sound !!!
This is by far one of my favorite songs! ❤️❤️
I believe Tim was working with Avi to get to the lower notes, so they decided to do this song.
I read somewhere that Tim helped both Avi & Geoff reach their Sub harmonics.
Way too short for us but they put out a perfect highlight reel of how great that would be in full length. Perhaps too much now that I think about it, they nailed it, so what's to add?
Avi's low note you commented on was just chest. Tim's low note at the end was not sub harmonics, but a growl, a whole different technique.
I think on Tim's G1 at the end, Avi was compliment bass as well. Avi has a smooth bass where Tim has the low crackle which is low, but not as full at that level. While preforming this in concert, at times it can take out the sound system for Tim's bass can take it out.
The emoji is on the picture of Yao and pentatonic like a head ready to blow up.
Avi was invited to be highlighted for his talents yet Tim had the last note.

No one talks about how long he held that G1. That low it is difficult to sustain it that long

You should react to their cover of “Mayday”. There are a number of juicy surprises in it.🔥
Tim Foust has actually destroyed at least 2 speaker systems with a low note on video. For some reason it happens when he sings the song "Your Man".💍
