- This was some early footage of Chester Zoo's newborn baby Orangutan. Baby was 4 days old at the time of this video and is now 6 months old and is doing really well. Sarikei has a special way of holding onto her baby to make sure she is safe and secure while she walks around with her.
She has an extra safety measure of putting the baby's hand in her mouth to ensure she doesn't fall!
Baby orangutans have an amazing ability and built in instinct to hold on tight to moms hair until they become independent enough to move around freely on their own
This baby orangutan is getting so strong and learning so much from her wonderful doting mother Sarikei, who has done a fantastic job rearing her other babies including her 6 year old son Tombol

The adorable 4 day old baby featured in this video is 40 year old Sarikei's 4th baby and is a wonderful ray of hope to the survival of these amazing rare critically endangered animals
The love Sarikei she has for her new baby is so apparent in this adorable animal video clip!

Orangutan birth Tribute to Grandmother Martha
The Critically Endangered 4 week old baby Girl Bornean Orangutan was born at Chester Zoo to devoted mother Sarikei and Father Willie and is the newest addition to the Bornean Orangutan family at the famous zoo and a wonderful legacy for Grand Old Lady Martha who sadly passed away at the remarkable age of 59 on 16th January 2024
In this video we get adorable close up animal footage of the new 4 day old baby orangutan as of January 2024, the gender of the baby has been officially announced by the zoo as a girl but a name for the precious baby is yet to be announced

Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Critically Endangered Orangutans
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed

Exactly!! That's how Jarang should be! This little one is 4 days old and has a good strong grip! Jarang is like 8 months old and Jinga drags him around like a rag doll and you never see him against her chest I r belly😢

I can't even begin to describe the love i feel for Orang-utans, they are beyond beautiful, amazing gorgeous animals, i wish there was so much more being done to save them for what humans have done. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I think this proves that Jingga only behaves differently because this didn’t occur naturally, Sarikei seems to know already that the baby won’t fall

I agree with you 100%. They are beautiful, amazing creatures and I could watch them for hours. The bond between a mother and her baby is wonderful.
However, as usual humans are trying their hardest to decimate the species by poaching or claiming their habitat as their own.
The world without these engaging animals would be a poorer place.

Sarikei is an impressive, devoted and 💟loving💜 Momma! She has such a unique way of ensuring her baby doesn't fall when she is climbing🌴!!! She inserts baby's entire hand🖐️, up to and including the wrist into her mouth👄 whilst folding her lips💋 inward to ensure she doesn't injure her baby in any way. This is a "skill" (for the lack of a better word) I've not🚫 seen👀 any Primate utilize.
Sarikei has no problem allowing her baby🍼🦧 to use her as her own personal Jungle 🌴 gym🏋️!
I recently discovered this wonderful channel and wish I had more time to binge watch⌚ all these amazing primates! I'm looking👀 forward to seeing 🙈 more.

Does she know how to nurse the baby?
She does nurse the baby, but she normally goes behind a privacy screen that the zoo has set up so I rarely get to film it. I do have an early video of her feeding baby though. 👍
@@ApeTracker1pure nonsense answer,since when animals have knowledge of privacy😂,they do what they have/want to do at anywhere or any time ,this mother is a bit slow,the baby has to act fast on finding the milk,😂❤
How old is the baby and what is it named is this an old video or a new one
This is an older video recorded in early September 2023 from unseen footage when the baby was 4 days old
She is now about 6 months old and still unnamed !
Not sure why the zoo still hasn't named her, maybe they can't decide or just haven't announced it
When a name is confirmed I will put a post on the community page
