A new baby Orangutan at Chester Zoo for mum Sarikei and dad Willie
In this video we get adorable close up animal footage of the new 14 day old baby orangutan - a critically endangered Bornean Orangutan
Sarikei and her 14 day old baby are very tired and are sleeping, Tombol stays close by his mother and new baby sibling
The baby awakes and we get a wonderful view, the baby routes for mothers nipple and is struggling to find it, so Sarikei kindly adjusts baby, who is then seen feeding from her contentedly
The newborn Bornean baby orangutan featured in this video is only 14 days old and was born early on 31st August 2023 to Mother Sarikei and Father Willie
Sarikei is an experienced mother orangutan who has had previous offspring including her son Tombol who lives with her and the rest of the Bornean Orangutans at Chester Zoo
At the time of recording this video Chester Zoo had announced the birth only days earlier and had yet to reveal the name and gender of the critically endangered newborn baby orangutan
Chester Zoo Baby Orangutan
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed
Congratulations to Chester Zoo on the birth of the new baby orangutan from @apetracker

We feel It's worth noting, that although The Realm Of The Red Ape Habitat, were this group of Bornean Orangutans live, is not cosmetically very nice for us humans to look at, it fits the Orangutans needs perfectly. The habitat was carefully designed and built for these animals and was as an extension to the existing Orangutan habitat. It took 2 years to build and opened in 2007 and is still one of the best facilities in modern zoos to date. This group of Orangutans are freely able to access the large outdoor areas all day, which are well planted and have many trees, ropes and climbing equipment, however we have observed that they seem to prefer being indoors - their own choice and only go outside occasionally. Look out for our videos of this group when we managed to record them exploring their outdoor habitat 🦧🥰
Sweet family
Thank you 😊
Momma is doing a fabulous job with her baby!!! Congratulations 🎉👏 mommaand Chester Zoo!!!
Thank you!!
Ooohhhh she holds his hand that sweet
Feel sorry for older baby he still wants love
We have seen that he still gets a little bonus attention from mum. Thanks so much for watching Gwen. 🥰
So typical of babies, as soon as mama goes to sleep, baby wakes up! 😂❤❤
They have a sixth sense lol 🥰
It makes me so sad to watch them laying on the ground like this. They are normally in the trees almost constantly, coming down only for short periods. Seeing them laying on wood chips looking bored and miserable and not being able to make their own decisions about where to go and what to do and what to eat, as they would in nature, is really disheartening.
They have the ability to go outside to a large and well made forested area with trees at any time - they have tunnel access in and out. But they prefer staying inside. Try not to think of it in human terms - these aren't 'miserable' or 'bored', they simply don't express their emotions the way we do. Actually bored great apes tend to injure themselves
CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 🎊🎊🎊 MOM, WILLE AND TOMBOL 🎊🎊🎊🎊BEAUTIFUL FAMILY.
ALSO CONGRATULATIONS ZOO, YOUR LUCKY TO HAVE THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES!!!🦧🦧🦧🦧
Thank you so much!!
Great footage! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, really glad you enjoyed the video, enjoy the rest of your week and keep well.
These beautiful, intelligent, sweet creatures should be living a life in the wild. I appreciate the work that the some of the zoos do. We humans have really made a mess of things.
Hopefully one day they will be safe in the wild and will flourish once again. Thanks so much for watching. 🥰
Thank you for nit trashing all zoos. The legit ones are vital to conservation. 🦧🐒🦍🐅🐆🦓🐘🦒🦏🦛🦥🐨🦦🦘🐧🐊🦚🐢🦜🦭
What sweet footage of this lovely family. This was one of my favorite videos!! 😍😍😍😍😍
I don't know if you go to more than 1 zoo but the orangutans seem to be having a lot of babies.which is good they sure love the little one's.
Yes, we visit many zoos and mainly feature the following UK Zoos: Chester Zoo, which have both Sumatran and Bornean Orangutan Groups,
Blackpool Zoo, Dudley Zoo, Twycross Zoo which has all 4 great apes, Bonobos, Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Bornean Orangutans
These zoos are all part of the European and International breeding programme, which carefully select suitable individuals for breeding in the member zoos, this is essential to ensure a strong and diverse gene pool in the captive groups for the survival of these endangered animals
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, have a great day! 🦧😊
@@ApeTracker1 wow you have a lot of zoo's across the pond.I didn't think the UK was very big but you do get lots of tourists.
Tooooo sweet, mum is doing a great job with both her babies 😅❤❤❤❤❤
You are so kind, thanks so much for watching. 🥰
Adorable 🥰 do we know if baby is a boy or girl?
We visited the zoo recently and asked if they knew if it was a boy or girl and they said it hadn't yet. We have reviewed all our footage close up and we think it's a girl. Thanks so much for watching, as soon as we find out we will announce it on our community page. 🥰
Старшенькому сколько лет ?❤😊
baby looks just like tombol did when we was little
Very much so, they have a strong family resemblance Thanks for watching. 🥰
Please let us find a way to let our endangered species lives as close to their natural habitat as possible
Yes, hopefully one day they will be safe in the wild. Thanks so much for watching. 🥰
It’s all about finance.
This is one proof of God's Existence.
This is sad. Momma obviously suffering from incarceration. It makes these innocent animals go crazy. Just like a human. I know this is a feel good channel, but just sayin'
If you believe these things, why are you here? Seems to me that you like spouting negativity. Just sayin’. Oh, what are you doing to conserve the habitats of this species who are now endangered? Have you looked on the ingredients list on your products. Do they contain sustainable palm oil? If we, as humans, didn’t destroy their habitats, then they would be in nature.
I was thinking the exact same thing - its like being in jail. Well, we are both here because we love watching these creatures in their natural habitat or in conditions close to it.
Thanks as always for watching Jonas, Martha the grandmother was offered to Chester zoo in the 1960's as she was deemed to be a vulnerable Orangutan due to some of her digits being stunted growth. This family has really contributed to the European breeding program. Like you say it's not ideal but is a good safeguard for the survival of the species. Hope you are having a great week. 🥰
Thanks for watching and commenting Imogen, I agree, I think the zoos are making the best of a poor situation. Keep well and enjoy the weekend ahead. 🥰
While it isn’t perfect, these beautiful creatures are close to extinction because of poachers and their habitats being destroyed. Thankfully, there are breeding programs and other various programs all over the world to try to save them.
