This video shows amazing footage of doting mum Sarikei holding baby close while it suckles and even rolls over with baby giving us a wonderful closer look as the baby lies on top of her tummy - just a joyful moment!
Look out for the clip when Sarikei climbs down with baby - see how the baby holds on tight to mum grasping her fur instinctively - Amazing how orangutan babies have this ability from birth to grasp hold of their mothers while they walk and swing around! - Amazing to watch!

what you find particularly cute or fascinating about Orangutans with or without babies!
The newborn Bornean baby orangutan featured in this video is only 4 few days old and was born early on 31st August 2023 to Mother Sarikei and Father Willie
Sarikei is an experienced mother orangutan who has had previous offspring including her son Tombol who lives with her and the rest of the Bornean Orangutans at Chester Zoo
At the time of recording this video Chester Zoo had announced the birth only days earlier and had yet to reveal the name and gender of the critically endangered newborn baby orangutan
Chester Zoo Baby Orangutan
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed
Congratulations to Chester Zoo on the birth of the new baby orangutan from @apetracker

I'm blown away watching the amazing mums with their little ones.
Momma is so beautiful.
Amazing that something just days old can cling on to mom like that and it appears to actually be feeding while she is climbing around
Human newborns have a grasp reflex when they are born. Unfortunately we no longer have long furry hair for them to grasp onto! ❤
I’m just amazed at their mothering skills, at how attentive how they kiss them an pat them. Now I know there are some that birth them an reject. That’s a mystery to me but I know there’s a mom an daughter an both were pregnant an had babies an the daughter rejected baby an mom took on grandson an her own. I know the daughter was very young not quite ready but she now plays with her son an brother but her mom is amazing taking on both. Orangutan moms are my favorite they are so serene an calm
They are truly amazing, they really do have great parenting skills. Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it. 🥰
The strength of a 4 day old
It is amazing how well they can hold onto their mothers from birth.

It sure is absolutely amazing!
Mum is so loving. How long does the baby hold onto its mum like that before letting go and walking by himself/herself?
Когда у мамы ноовый ребёнок, старшего она отправляет в свободное плавание .
Большое спасибо за просмотр, мы очень ценим это. Хорошо держаться
Where are the trees, plants…?
They have outdoor enclosures with many trees, plants, shrubs, climbing poles, ropes and hammocks, which they are free to roam in throughout the day
This group of Bornean Orangutans do prefer to spend most of their time indoors - their own preference
Thanks for watching
I saw a video a while back, like over a year ago where a mom gorilla and her little baby, and an older toddler baby(also hers) escaped the enclosure and got on top of the enclosure. They just walked around went through a bunch of stuff, the mama tried on covid masks😂😂😂that were up there, the employees were trying to lure them back down with treats, and in the end they all came back through the gap in the fence they escaped from. Do you know what orangutan mom that was and who were the 2 babies.? When I saw the video last year I have no idea how old it was at that time. But the video was a hilarious one. It was in the U.K or Australia or someplace like that. I might have it saved in my favorite animal video folder on youtube. I am thinking it was Sarikei but not sure. Just went and checked my video folder it was Subis and her two tots. I hope it's okay to put the link here, it's hysterical and people will enjoy it. It's not mine. ua-cam.com/video/qnICbXweB3E/v-deo.html
