    As a mechanically inclined guy, this review was a real gem. We REALLY appreciate a review that tells you up front how to improve the weak points on any machine. For those of us who love to tinker, that info is pure gold, because of the fun of having some wrench input on our machines. Gives us a real connection to the bikes we love. Thanks, Lemmy, for a GREAT review!

    I have a 2018 Indian Scout and I love it, the issues in this video are not any concern of mine. The bike gets a lot of attention and people usually ask "When did Indian started making motorcycles again?" I changed the headlight to the Indian LED and added the tan leather bags.

    This review was spot on. If I were to buy a Scout, I would also change out the seat; to me, after a quick 30 minute test ride, it felt like it was either too firm (or the leather was too firm) or it didn't have enough foam. Other than that, this bike is what the Sportster should have evolved into.

    Lemy and Revzilla give the best reviews of motorcycles on UA-cam. Look at the cinematography that they put together, they also play decent music in the background, and of course Lemy is a freaking home run because he knows how to review a motorcycle. He's down to earth and he is a pleasure to listen to and provides exactly the information that a motorcyclist needs.

      You are an attorney , so you work for money and you are money oriented, why should the Harley dealer sell to you at cost ? You don’t think they need the money to keep doors open ?

    • @jon4415
      @jon4415 5 років тому +3

      @@dmitriydean3946 there is a huge difference between your statement compared with theirs. It's completely one thing to make your customer feel as if they're getting a quality product vs just taking your money outright. When you spend that kind of money on a non-essential purchase (such as a motorcycle) it helps to feel validated when a dealer makes you feel good about choosing their brand over another. It has nothing to do with cost, but rather a lessened feeling of buyer's remorse.

    Have a 2015 Harley Street 750 now and I just took a Scout for a test ride. Apples and Oranges. The Scout has far more power and the bike dives into the turns so naturally, whereas the Harley tends to want to stand up and fight a little more on the turns. I am 5,8 and 220lbs and it felt comfortable. I don't know if a 400 lb person 6,2 would be so comfy on it. Might be a little small for someone that big. As for the Scout 60, it may be a bit cheaper, but the difference in power might be noticeable if you ride often. The bikes literally weigh the same and the power is only noticeable when you get down on the throttle. If you are not in the throttle much, a 60 may be fine. Also, a lot less Chrome on the 60.
    Thanks Lemmy. Your videos have been helpful. I was tossed between a 48 and the Scout and the Scout is definitely the better ride, especially on my torn up back, plus Indian gives Vets, Active Military and Cops $500 in free accessories. With the 27% markup Harley has, you would think they could be a little generous.

    I am a new 2018 Scout owner. I came to the Scout from a huge bike of another brand with a higher center of gravity, so I was not gonna settle for lack of power, but I wanted to ride something that fits my short inseam, and lets me plant my feet firmly on the ground when I stop. I have not been disappointed by the Scout in any way. While I am still waiting to hit the end of my break-in period, I can tell the little guy will power me in the way I want. The suspension issues you mention have apparently been addressed, so that is a moot point. I must, however, take issue with you concerning the mirrors and turn signals. The mirrors stay exactly where I adjusted them, and never move. The turn signals, while at the end of flexible plastic arms, never move. I never have needed to adjust them, and they simply stay where they are intended to be. The flexibility of the plastic part was put there--what?--maybe to keep that particular part from breaking if it is hit, or if you put the bike down. If you do have to replace it, I am assuming the plastic part is cheaper than a corresponding chrome part. I don't think you were fair in your "well, that's just not the way to do it....." critique. The Scout got me back into two-wheel riding with a vengeance, and is doing probably what one of its many purposes are: to tempt me aboard--once more--a larger bike, but this time, it will be Indian when I move up. They have scoped out their market very, very well.

    We own a 2015 Scout (same model and even color as in the review) and we've never had issues with the signal lights or mirrors getting knocked out position. Even when she tipped it over and hit the right mirror, we just adjusted it back into place and the ball socket held for another 260 highway miles all the way back home. Something was *really* odd about your test Scout if your mirrors and signal lights were that loose. Otherwise, I agree with everything else in your great review.

    I test-rode a Scout back in July. I love the engine, but it just seems weird in a feet-forward cruiser. You are correct in saying the power comes on at a higher RPM; it wants you swing a knee out, but the riding position prevents you from really getting your weight forward and realizing the full potential of the engine. I'd love to see a sport Scout or a flat-track inspired version in the future.

    Thanks Lemmy
    My wife traded in her Victory Cross Country for a Scout and is absolutely in love with the bike. So much so that she doesn't mind commuting from work in the triple digit Texas heat. Her only nitpick so far is that while the seat is awesome looking it isn't as comfy as she'd like. It isn't so bad that it is a priority fix (and it could just be that she's spent the last few years riding a bike that was built for spending longer periods of time in the saddle and is accustomed to that).

    This is one of the best made motorcycle review videos I've ever seen, and I've watched hundreds. Everything from the photography to the excellent knowledge and likability of the host, to the great format of the information presented, was really top notch. Subscribed! Boom.
    As for content, it was interesting to see the upsides to this bike -- which I was familiar with from having ridden one -- but the down-sides were fascinating as well. The modifications suggested seem like they would get someone where they want to be, performance wise.
    I ride a 1700 Roadstar, so this bike is not really in my immediate future, as I want my additional bike to be something a bit more for the twisties, but my test ride of this bike was amazing. It was a joy to ride.

    I have no interest on Indian motorcycles but I still enjoy and watch your reviews because of the detail, the video quality and just overall how well they're put together. I would put your reviews right up there with those of Top Gear. Keep up the excellent work.

    Revzilla nailed it again! Great review. Indian does not have to go cheap on this bike. They need to put top quality parts on all their bikes and let the chips fall where they may. That way, every Indian rider will know they can depend on the bike for years to come. Now, Revzilla b-a-a-a-b-y, it's time to throw a leg over a Moto Guzzi Eldarado. I'm looking forward to your top review on this Italian spare rib!

    Man, I have watched this video three or four times now and I must say I am leaning towards getting this bike even more. My top picks are the Indian Chief vintage (will put Saddleback Leather bags on it though - real deal), the Scout, the KTM 1290 adventure, and the Moto Gutzzi Eldorado. Two of these bikes will go into my garage and all the gear will come from Revzilla.

    Wow, really amazing production!! The first in-helmet audio was a little hot but that's a nasty recording environment so it can be excused. Would have liked to hear some more audio of those aftermarket mufflers at the end too. Other than that, absolutely flawless. Nice work Lenny and the crew.

    Indian is not the oldest American motorcycle manufacturer. There have been several Indian Motorcycle companies and periods when there were none. You may say Indian is the oldest American motorcycle *brand* still producing motorcycles.

    I'm becoming a huge fan of your bike reviews. I love the content, editing, production, and Lemmy. lol. I'm not a huge American twin fan by any means. The only bikes that have ever caught my attention are the scout and 750 street, and maybe the octane. I really like how you're not afraid to point out the negatives, even tho sometimes you're too nice...😀 Great vid btw and keep up the good work. Liked and subscribed.

    Agree that the mirrors are junk. I mean they're really really bad. Disagree that the motor lacks luggable low end vs similarly priced competitors. Front suspension is fine. Rear suspension often hits the stops. This bike will out-handle anything comparably sized HD offers, for less money. You didn't mention the throttle and fueling. It's sublime. It's good enough to be any riders primary bike. I ride Ducatis and this Scout is a gem.

    I’ve been watching your channel for while and like your videos, they are informative and entertaining BUT that also comes with responsibility of fact checking. Indian is NOT the oldest manufacturer, they are a reincarnation by a corporate decision of Polaris. And no matter how tough things got financially for Halley Davidson they never gave up , claimed bankruptcy and closed doors for over 60 years, they kept innovating and pushing forward.

    • @khaccanhle1930
      @khaccanhle1930 5 років тому +1

      Yes and no. Harley WOULD have declared bankruptcy if not for bailouts and protective tariffs that slanted an interfered market to save their bacon. Every time HD got a bailout or tariff, it was EXACTLY the same as declaring bankruptcy. At least Indian had the grace to die on the field, rather than running to the government and asking them to change the rules like little cheat.
      The only reason Harley "survived" is because they took money essentially stolen from the taxpayers against their will. That is not something I would brag about. And let's not even mention AMF.
      Indian is really Polaris? OK, Harley is really a bowling ball.

    Having test ridden a scout as well I have to say that I agree with all the points you brought up Lemmy and even have one that irked me to no end and most likely will rule me out from buying a scout unless it gets changed, the small fuel tank!
    For me the amount of fuel it holds is just not good enough IMO.
    A measly 12.5 ltr/ 3 gallon tank for a 1133cc bike to me just does not cut it.
    Now if it had at least a 15.5 ltr/ 4 gallon tank I could live with that.
    I can only hope some bigger tanks become available for the scout, figgers crossed!
    Oh, and great vid mate. Keep up the great work!

    • @SpudsMcHaggis
      @SpudsMcHaggis 9 років тому

      Fair enough.
      I guess for me since I can easly do a ride of approx 300 mi/480 km's in a day for days on end (yes I am a sucker for a sore arse) I would like just a little bit more range out of the tank.
      So that is the main reason the scout just is not for me although, as an around town/short tripper I can see it's merits.

    How were you able record audio as you ride? Are you sending the audio to an external recorder, or is it going directly to the gopro? I know this has nothing to do with the Indian, but I was hoping you could help out. Thanks!
