This is all from the mind of someone who is still looking for a good bike to start with. I have no riding experience, just keep that in mind. My thought process is if you are new, the scout 60 makes a great starter for more relaxed cruising kind of driving while still having ample power and performance, with decent style. Start with a good condition used scout 60, then go from there. I think if you are just starting getting a new normal scout is stupid. For myself, I will never have 2 bikes of my own, atleast not street legal. So getting a beefier higher quality scout eventually seems ideal.
Thank god, someone taller than a 5th grader. I was worried I would be too tall for this bike at 6 feet tall and being all legs as a dude. So many guys doing reviews on the scout are like 5'7 or 5'6... You don't look too long for the bike at all. Fantastic.
I was checking out the Scout Bobber for months and then I fell in love with the Victory OCTANE. Ground work from Project 156 went into designing the Octane and the first time I rode it I was sold. Super fast and loud. Great bike!
I test road the scout sixty abs 2019 last week it’s a really fun bike with great handling in 6 feet tall and my only complaint was my legs kept bowing out from the stock foot pegs making it annoying but that’s fixable over all I totally agree with Shawn
The Scout Sixty can have a black or tan seat. I have a 2017 Scout Sixty with the OEM Tan seat and bags. The only for sure way to tell them apart is the Heads. The Sixty will ALWAYS have stock black heads. Oh, and all you need is a Power commander. $300 and you put down just as much, if not more power than a typical scout.
The 2016-2017 Scout 60s are strangled artificially by the tune Polaris installed. You can throw a PCVX fuelmoto tune on and make up a lot of the power difference from the "bigger" bike. Even more if you throw on an intake and slip ons.
Honestly I have the regular scout. You barely need gears 4-5. 1,2,3,6 are the gears I use. I almost never use 4/5 as its blast around gears in 1-3, then pop up to 6 for highway cruising.
@@WW-to4ni Correct. The Scout has longer legs. That was important to me because of where I live. My daughter loves it, but I'm steering her toward a 60 because she's not a long-haul rider. The 60 isn't a "girl's bike." Just less expensive and lacking 1 extra gear. It's a fine choice for suburban riders, and it'll still do highway just fine for weekends. And they're all vastly customizable so what it looks like is probably irrelevant.
Just an fyi to everyone out there, the scout 60s 5 speed has all the exact same gear ratios as the 6, they just drop 5th gear. You loose no performance on the highway:)
That was a pretty impressive review . I haven’t owned a bike for 18 years . I’ve been thinking about getting into again . This looks like it may be my way back on the road .
I rode the Sixty, but recently bought the Scout. Both are light, quick and very easy to handle. The Sixty is quite sufficient; but I had the money, so I went for a little extra power. And, they’re great looking! I traded in a 2014 HD. One thing I wanted was ground clearance. My HD would scrape against the speed bumps in my neighborhood; the Indian doesn’t. The Indians all have about an inch-plus more clearance than Harleys.
The Scout 69 has the extra gear between 4th and 5th of the Scout 60. So, the gear ratio of the highest gear on each bike is the same. From everything I've read and heard, it's tough to tell the difference in performance between the two bikes. I have a Scout 69 but haven't ridden a 60. My wife and I rode our Scout 2-up for 15,000 miles. I know it sounds crazy but we did and we kept up with the big boys. Now we have a Springfield and she gets the ride the Scout by herself. Thanks for the video!
I bought the 2019 Scout 60 and put Reinhardt pipes on it with the Indian hp intake. I'm 6'2" 225lbs. No problem with speed or torque. Mines thunder black but all the colors offered are noticeable. You get a bang for your buck with an Indian. The warranty was a big plus aswell. Do yourself a favor and test ride one before you buy your next bike. The 6th gear on the scout is the same ratio as 5th gear on the Scout 60. Cruising at 80mph isn't a problem all day long unless the wind is high. This bike works for both highway and around town cruises.
From what I understand, Indian had to seriously detune the Scout 60 to make a noticeable difference from the regular Scout. Apparently both motors make roughly the same horsepower and torque. Add a fuel tuner and you gain back the HP/Torque and then some. Every time the demo truck comes to town I ride the Scout. They are just plain fun!!!
It’s a beautiful bike. I love Indian motorcycles and HD Sportsters, you definitely have the freedom to like both, it doesn’t have to be either or. Peace out and keep riding✌🏼
Hey, they use all the same gear ratios. 1-2-3-4. Then 5th on the 60 is the same as 6 on the scout. Scout 60 is great. Some aesthetic differences, and the power is noticeable. I would buy the regular scout all day over the 60 though….buying used the gap isn’t as big.
most obvious difference visually between the scout and the 60 is the 60 doesn't have a scout badge whereas the regular scout does....you're absolutely right...it's not what you ride it's where you're riding..
The bore makes little difference in power in this engine. The 60 has a different map that closes the throttle valves at around 5500 rpms if I remember correctly. Otherwise, the 60 is the same bike with minor cosmetic differences and one less gear. If the 20 hp really matters that much then flash the 60 with a pvcx and you basically have the same power. ...so no. You don't need a stage 2 kit to get the same power...just a $300 investment. This was proven like 3 years ago....not sure why people are still confused by this.
Buy a used bike after doing some research. No reason to learn on a 10,000$ bike. The Yamaha 535 or V-Star 650 or the Honda Shadows can be had for cheap, then you can make all your mistakes on that bikes before you get somthing like this. Its not a must, but its alot easier to get a 2,000$ Shadow and get riding, than dream of a Scout for years.
@@pauld.b7129 This is sound advice, & advice newbies should heed. The learning process can be cruel, dropping a $2000 bike isn't a biggie, dropping a new one is just adding to the payment.
Indian's "beginner bike" will leave a Sportster 1200 in the dust, actually it will leave pretty much every stock Harley in the dust now that the V-Rod was put out to pasture.
Thanks for this - I'm looking at the Scout, Scout 60, Chief, and Rebel 1100. The Chief is really more than I want to spend (even the base Chief). So I started looking at the Scout, then the Rebel - then I realized what the Scout 60 was - and I think it's what I'm going to go for. (about 70% sure at the moment - more research to do)
Man its crazy.. I havent lived in Pa for a while but I still know these roads ❤. I was watching and thinking “why does this drive seem so familiar?” Great commentary. I own a 69cc rogue but I agree.. for the size and suspension, the 60cc is the right engine. Im always pushing beyond the chassis ability
I'm 6'4" and the bike was comfortable to sit on, but it looked small for me in a picture I had someone take. Sad, because I love this motorcycle a lot.
I've been trying to decide between a scout and a scout sixty and trying to justify the extra cash for the scout which I don't really have. You answered the question for me and I thank you. A Scout sixty it is.
I've got a 1982 Honda goldwing gl1100 that's a cafe racer, I love it because compared to my old Kawasaki Vulcan 800, it rides so much better and struggles alot less on the highway and I love it because it just has so much power no matter where you accelerate at

Loving my scout sixty, upgrades now were a passenger pillion, Aeormach engine protector, denali soundbomb mini, Kuryakin bar end mirrors and grips, lickscycle tapered slip on exhaust and added a Perf air intake telling me it will add up to 81hp, but anyways it's a good filter with a plus.
I got my 2016 Scout 69 cu. in. last year (2 years old) for only $7500 from a private party. (The guy wasn't asking four times book price for his used bike.)
Beautiful 60-degree v twin, liquid cooled, good power, beautiful, well-made bike. Nice job, Indian! Wish you made them with standard controls, though (30+ inch seat height with the footpegs under you). Good review, Sean.
I just did 1500 miles on my scout 60 traveling through the Appalachians. I stayed off the highways, so I was on it about 6-7 hours a day. 5 hours was fine, but my ass started hurting slowly after that. Bike kicked ass in the turns though!

Sean, I like when you start to get "On it" at the 6 minute mark and that SUV comes at you so you "get off it." Yep, POLICE right on the side.... Almost got caught, didn't you Batman.... ha, ha..
In the 30’s -60’s white Harley’s were almost always police bikes ,70’s 80’s and 90’s Black Harley’s were almost custom order (except for my fxb sturgis of course ),being most were metallic , the “new” thing. Within the last 6-8 years it’s been like the black and dark age as far as factory paint , they’ve GOT to be saving money somewhere.
Always wanted an Indian Scout, never owned a bike other than a dirt bike, at 35 it's time. Great video BTW, if it fits you well at 6"2, I will be fine a 6 foot even.
Best choice in a clean looking bike! I got the 2018 bronze colored one..... I upgraded the pipes to slip ons (Van's and Hines) it's been mistaking for a Harley many times! Definitely a head Turner! 😉
Could not agree More Sean I see a reoccurring theme here... Multiple bikes for various hikes.. That nice streetglide I came down on would pair nicely with something smaller and lighter to bang around town on... Ehh but maybe I'll pay it off first! Lol. You can never go wrong if you buy something from each style that you have interest in.. One day Ducati, next day Scout, and a GOLDWING for the weekends! Just get out there and CRUSH those miles! 😎👍👍
I'm 6'4", I really want a scout but standing next to one it seemed tiny, the seat SUPER low. It's looks like it's made for a 5'6" guy. I wish they would make a classic style standard with a higher seat.

I’ve had my scout sixty for a few years now. It’s great around town and rides up to an hour. The only issue I have is I don’t like how hard it has to run on the highway when riding to work. Speed limit is 80, semis go about 75ish. But cars passing are closer to 90 or more. It has to work hard at those high speeds. Other than that I love the bike.

3:26 AMEN! 🔥 Triumph Bobber Black vs. Scout Bobber Vid. Next! 👊
"keep it down... I know someone is doing it... we don't want to hear about it.."
lol
Haha I was going to comment and say I do 😆
It’s a beautiful bike. I love Indian motorcycles and HD Sportsters, you definitely have the freedom to like both, it doesn’t have to be either or. Peace out and keep riding✌🏼
I want to say God bless you with the motorcycles be safe God bless you guys really☺☺
The regular Scout has more chrome and fancier paint and seat and stuff also but I like the plain look of the sixty better myself
Lol I just posted this. Unfortunately the 2018+ ones they got wise to this and changed the throttle body to a 54mm instead of the 60mm.
I'm new into the bike scene. I'm digging it. I'm looking for entry level bikes similar like this style. I want a bike so bad. Gonna save up for one.
Ezra Zavala so what bike are you leaning towards?
I looked at the Indian scout bobber and It was a great looking bike. But I'm loving my Yamaha XSR
I am 6’ 275 but also a new rider so I don’t want too much power. I love that he prays before a ride.
I have a scout 60 it’s been my most reliable bike I love it.
My first bike. Only complaint is I don't get out to ride enough. I look forward to putting on the miles for years to come.
Indian's "beginner bike" will leave a Sportster 1200 in the dust, actually it will leave pretty much every stock Harley in the dust now that the V-Rod was put out to pasture.
HahahHa Hahahaha!!!!
(about 70% sure at the moment - more research to do)
I love the scripture reading dude.keep it up and I'll keep watching.
Which bike did you get?
One week ago I picked up a 2016 Scout flat black the price was 8750 after taxes it had 2400 miles on it it was a great deal enjoying every second.
I bought a 17 scout sixty with 200 miles on it for 8500 4 months ago.
I've been trying to decide between a scout and a scout sixty and trying to justify the extra cash for the scout which I don't really have. You answered the question for me and I thank you. A Scout sixty it is.
Great channel from what I see...God Bless, love the scripture before each ride.
love your channel. Keep up the good work. God Bless
Bought my scout sixty bobber after watching this. Zero Regrets, amazing bike.
I've got a 1982 Honda goldwing gl1100 that's a cafe racer, I love it because compared to my old Kawasaki Vulcan 800, it rides so much better and struggles alot less on the highway and I love it because it just has so much power no matter where you accelerate at
Is the Indian scout sixty big enough for a man. I guess it would depend on the man Sean. For this man hell yes it would that's a beautiful little bike. Actually it's not really little either is it. LOL. Thank you for the video Sean and take care keep the shiny side up.
Had a Scout sixty and loved it. Plenty big enough for anyone.
Then why did you get rid of it? they have not been out that long
6'4/ 194cm
Still big enough?
Beautiful 60-degree v twin, liquid cooled, good power, beautiful, well-made bike. Nice job, Indian! Wish you made them with standard controls, though (30+ inch seat height with the footpegs under you). Good review, Sean.
This was a great video! Very informative... it's the one I want! Thanks!
Sean. To your question of "Why would you buy a Scout when a 60 will do?"
Three letters, ABS. Indian has a good one.
They have the Indian Scout Mustang ABS for less than 11k!
glad I saw this video because I just bought a 2022 scout sixty.. thanks and Happy Holidays!
I just did 1500 miles on my scout 60 traveling through the Appalachians. I stayed off the highways, so I was on it about 6-7 hours a day. 5 hours was fine, but my ass started hurting slowly after that. Bike kicked ass in the turns though!
You answered the question I was gonna ask; how is it on long runs? Thank you.
That way of thinking is just so antiquated.
I watched this video went and checked out so.e harleys then went to our local Polaris dealer and got the indian scout sixty my first bike. the video gave me all the info I was looking for Thanks love the videos guys
I'm getting the 2020 scout just waiting on winter to blow over I haven't even got a chance to ride my 2019 kx100 much due to the season but it is gona be a fun transition from my 2012 z1000
Sean, I like when you start to get "On it" at the 6 minute mark and that SUV comes at you so you "get off it." Yep, POLICE right on the side.... Almost got caught, didn't you Batman.... ha, ha..
Cycles and THE WORD!? I'M SUB'D!
Indian did such a good job designing the scout, better than anything HD has come up with as far as the sportsters go.
5:59 = Bad boys Bad boys, watcha gonna do watcha gonna do when they come for you
I'm going to ride it!!!! like I stole it That's what I'm going to do
Good looking bike. Looks even better in slate gray and/or black
I wrote a 2016 scout around for a few months it was a great little bike I had no complaints about it either
I love the looks of the motor they really thought about that design
Love the Bible verse!! Looking at getting a Sixty. Haven’t ridden a bike in 30 years. Want something easy to ride yet beautiful. I think this fits. Checking one out tomorrow. Thanks!
I almost bought a victory octane three years ago . But waited to long and now i ride a iron 883. But i love the the look of the Indian scout very clean looking.
I own a 2015 Kawi Vulcans in white. I stand out everywhere I ride.
I was in an Indian dealership a week ago...….a lot of great choices =)
I didn't know you where PA based til I felt oddly nostalgic watching this vid, then there it was a highway sign to Harrisburg!
Great vid thanks for the info!
Sean,, Grrrreat job I have the same bike which I get so many compliments about the bike and Indian does not promote the bike like they should. thanks for shining a light on a great bike
Great review! Love your channel , keep on ridin'! I wish I could afford another bike but am to old , decrepit and broke now to be on "2 wheels" ! Enjoy the Scout Shawn!
Indian is better than harley
polaris*
Gatorade is better
I’ve had my scout sixty for a few years now. It’s great around town and rides up to an hour. The only issue I have is I don’t like how hard it has to run on the highway when riding to work. Speed limit is 80, semis go about 75ish. But cars passing are closer to 90 or more. It has to work hard at those high speeds. Other than that I love the bike.
I should add that at 65-70 it runs good with plenty of power bad left to get out of sticky situations.
Fantastic review. Glad you mentioned your size & fit of bike.
This video and Man is what influenced me to buy my first bike at 51...Indian Scout 60. It definitely sounds out in a sea of HDs at my local watering hole. And no one has EVER said, " man that's an ugly bike"
Failed XL? Me and the XL have been going on for 62 years. However, I know where you are coming from. However, HD is a survivor, and Indian is just a name plate by comparison. I like the bikes though... Thanks much for all you do for motorcycling.
INDIAN IS 101 YEARS OLD... Its older than HD
